Description: In the wake of the October 17, 1989 Loma
Prieta Earthquake, Caltrans commissioned an oral history
project to document the personal and professional
experiences of Caltrans employees who worked to restore
the State's damaged transportation system. Cliff Shour
was an Associate Transportation Engineer for Caltrans
when the Loma Prieta earthquake occurred. Cliff primarily
describes the effects the earthquake had at his home in
Saratoga and the little damage that occurred at his
office at Technology Drive. The following week after the
earthquake, Cliff became involved with the work to repair
damaged roads and highways. It also is mentioned that the
ongoing work was related to the slides of dirt and rock
on Santa Clara County roads.
