Herodotus, Aeschylus, and other classical historians |

describing the Persian and Greek fleets at Doriscus, |
|
Artemisium, Salamis, Mycale, and subsequent battles (480- |
|
478 B.C.) during the reign of the Iranian shah Xerxes I |
|
(486-465 B.C.). Among topics examined: the size and |
|
composition of the fleets, crew sizes, type of ship in |
|
use, and war casualty figures. Extensive scholarly notes. |
