Listener Q&A:
Religious/3 books of the Bible dietary restrictions
explained. Halal and Kosher are akin to each other:
humane/single stroke slaughter, type of animal, choice of
meat cuts, etc are covered. Types of fish, ruminants
mammals, no insects, no blood, salting to remove
remaining blood all are due to religious doctrine.
sustainable and local movements are more important then
ever: they are not bogus buzzwords of the moment. Eating
foods that are seasonal and/or grown within 100 miles of
your home is good for you, the planet and the economy.
The New York Times article: the false hood of fast foods
being cheaper for a family to eat is EXCELLENT and True.
Fast food is expensive, poor nutrition and toxic. Get off
your ass, shop and cook your own family's food. Eating
out is a once in a while thing...not a weekly thing.
A new couple saves $$$ by cooking @ home: they've got to
pay their own way now and by cooking for themselves, they
save big $$$, establish a new facet to their
relationship, enjoy dining together after they create
their own meals and loose weight together by dining on
their own creations.
Squashes and pumpkins are being harvested: roasted,
grilled, baked and purees are power/vitamin/antioxidant
filled powerhouses. Basic squash puree soup is covered.
Apple, pear and squash butters with basic canning
techniques are revisited.
Home Ec was a total, sexist waste of time in Jr.High and
High School: great culinary know how is best started and
nurtured @ home. Parents, it is your responsibility to
empower and teach your kids to shop, select, cook and
server their own foods...not to forget to clean up after.
It increases communication between family members,
fosters independence and cooperation, real time
utilization of math, science and reading, excellent for
learning or motor skills. Interaction in the kitchen is
the glue that truly can hold a family together and teach
you and your kids that we are all responsible for each
other and ourselves.
