Preamble:
An operating system like Peach OSI is sorely needed in
all of our daily computing needs. Linux is difficult to
infiltrate in that the file system requires that a user
be logged in order to edit or alter the system files.
Peach OSI can be installed alongside any Windows system.
Peach OSI can be installed as a stand alone system. Peach
OSI can be ran in a virtual machine or you can run it
directly from a DVD or USB - making Peach OSI one of the
most versatile operating systems available. Peach OSI can
also run many Windows programs by utilizing the pre-
installed "Wine" system. Best of all, Peach OSI can be
ran on just about any appliance. Everything from
Netbooks, Notebooks, Laptops, Desktops and Server Units.
The 64 Bit version can handle up to 126gb of ram while
the 32 Bit version can run on as little as 512mb of ram -
sometimes even less. As a person that has been working
with computers of every imaginable type for over 40 years
- I've found that most of the Linux based systems are
confusing to most of today's computer users. Most simply
do not want to spend the time and effort to learn to use
a Linux system. Sadly, they are hooked into a never
ending process of using a computer that declines in speed
and functionality as well as being on a constant software
treadmill that requires them to always be upgrading and
updating both their software and their computers. The
goal of Peach OSI is to get those users off that
treadmill and best of all, in a manner that brings the
fun and reliability of the Linux operating system. Peach
OSI is a derivative of Ubuntu which is a derivative of
Debian. The difference with Peach OSI will be evident the
moment you begin to use it. There are 3 different ways to
access your applications. They all get you to the same
applications but with 3 choices you can choose the way
that you are already more accustomed to. Peach OSI comes
pre-loaded with a bevy of tried and tested open source
software and applications. Get off that treadmill that is
designed to do nothing but rid you of your hard earned
dollars and get aboard the other alternative - a handy,
safe and virtually free Linux system. Of course and as
always. Open source does not necessarily mean "free".
Donations are always welcome to keep the projects going.
You can donate to the Peach OSI project @

Basic Help
If you ever see the "Software Updater" notification in
the Top Panel (Panel 0) above (just to the right of
"Applications - Files") it means that you have updates
available for your computer.
Menus
First and foremost when you need to edit a system setting
- Click on the system settings icon on the dock on the
bottom or from the Applications pull down menu. We could
have left links in the Applications menu for all the
available system setting but that would have left the
menu overcrowded. Therefore most all of the menu settings
are available in the settings manager...
For displaying on a single monitor or a single TV:
Inside the dock at the bottom of your Peach OSI desktop -
on the right side - you see 8 tiny icons. Included in
those icons is an icon that will open the XFCE Single
Monitor Settings. It is the second icon from the left on
the bottom of the group of 10 icons. You can mouse over
each icon and a brief description of each application for
each icon will pop up. Clicking on that icon will bring
up a Display window that will allow you to easily adjust
the type of monitor or TV connected along with
resolution, refresh rate, rotation and reflection
options. As you can see - Peach OSI has been setup to
auto configure any displays when connected. You will need
to know the best available resolution and refresh rate
for your particular display. Please refer to your
displays documentation for those correct settings.
Placing incorrect settings in these boxes can damage your
display so please do educate yourself on your particular
display before continuing to make any changes. With that
information in hand you can make changes here to improve
your overall visual experience.
For displaying on multiple monitors or a monitor a single
TV:
For multiple monitors you can make changes to the setting
with XFCE Single Monitor Settings as stated above too.
But sometimes you need to further setup multiple monitor
settings. For this weve included an application named
ARandR. It too is available from the bottom dock on your
desktop and is also in the grouping of 8 tiny icons on
the left side of the bottom dock. It is next to the XFCE
Single Monitor Settings icon and when you mouse over it -
it displays Settings For Multiple Monitors. Clicking on
that icon brings up the Screen Layout Editor. Inside the
Screen Layout Editor you can drag and drop the particular
arrangement of your multiple monitor setup. You can set
many options such as resolution and refresh rate with
ARandR. What is important to remember with ARandR is that
you must click on the check mark to apply your changes
and then save your changes to disk after making any
changes. Its generally best to reboot after making any
changes to make sure that your settings were saved and
reproduce upon startup.
Special support for NVidia graphics cards.
If you have an Nvidia graphics card you can install
support for your NVidia graphics card in the Software
Center available at the icon below like this . Once the
Software Center opens fill in the search block with
NVidia. Choose the latest version available in the
Software Center.
In the dock on the bottom you see 8 tiny icons. Select
the top left small icon :
This opens the Settings menu for Peach OSI. Inside the
Settings Menu there are 4 categories of available
settings. Scroll down to the System category and find
Click on that icon entitled Software Updates. This will
open the Software and Updates window. In the Software and
Updates window you have 5 tabs. Click the tab labeled
Additional Drivers. This will populate the open window
with any special drivers that were installed when you
initially loaded Peach OSI. It may take a couple of
minutes to populate the window. If you have an NVidia
graphics card then all of the available NVidia loaded
will show up in this window. You can try other NVidia
drivers by ticking on the small circle and then click on
the Apply Changes button. Once the changes complete you
will need to reboot. Once rebooted try Kodi to see if the
newly installed driver works with Kodi. As I stated
above, We recommend that you use the X-org X server
graphics display driver while using Peach OSI. Some
things of the NVidia drivers are not fully comapatible
with Peach OSI.
Special Support for I devices like Iphones, IPads, Ipods
and Nano. Files can now be edited in Peach OSI for the
above named I" devices. (View files, copy files, move
files, delete files) Great for moving photos and movies
to your PC. Be very careful not to change any files that
are on your Apple devices. This feature is mainly useful
in copying picture and movie files to your Peach OSI.
Basic support for Androids. It is more complicated to
give full file transfer capability to a Linux system .
The reason is due to the fact that there are so many
different Android devices made by a myriad of different
manufacturers. What weve done is to install the MTP-Tools
set of program files which is what is needed to initiate
Android support.
Changing Wallpaper
Changing your wallpaper is very easy in Peach OSI. Simply
load an image or images into your pictures folder, (Files
at the top of the page and then click on your username,
then on the pictures folder) Simply right click on that
image and in the pop-up menu that follows click on Set
Image as Wallpaper. If you want to add several images as
your wallpaper upload those images to your pictures
folder, (same procedure as above), then right click
anywhere on a blank area of your screen, then click on
Desktop Settings. Next to where you see Folder in the
open screen click on the block next to Folder, then
select Other, click on your username, then click once on
the Pictures folder highlighting it, (do not open it)
then click on Open to open all the images in the folder.
The desktop settings program will next populate Desktop
Settings with all of your images. You can then set your
images to change your background wallpaper however you
desire (By the minute, by the hour, or random). If you
ever want to return to Peach OSIs default background
wallpaper, it is located in the
/usr/share/xfce4/backdrops/ folder. Simply follow the
steps above and select the backdrops folder.
To add a application launcher to the dock (below), click
on "Files" in the menu above.
Then click on "Files System" from the pull down menu.
Then click through the
"/usr/share/applications/" folders until you can view the
applications' icons. Drag
any application to the dock holding onto the icon until
you see a red line as a
separator between the existing dock icons. A pop up will
appear, confirm to add the
icon/launcher to the dock. To move the icon on the dock,
right click on the icon
and select "Move" from the pull-down menu. Then grab the
icon and drag it to any
location of the dock. Follow the same procedure for
removing an icon from the dock.
(I.E. right click on the icon and select "Remove".
To add an application launcher to the desktop, click on
"Files" in the menu above.
Then click on "Files System" from the pull down menu.
Then click through the
"/usr/share/applications/" folders until you can view the
applications' icons. Drag
any application to the desktop holding onto the icon
until you place the icon where
you want it. To delete a desktop icon, right click on the
icon and select "delete."
Be wary of deleting Hard drive and/or USB drive icons.
Deleting those may render access
to either null and void without further reprogramming.
Peach OSI has been designed in a way that most users will
have no problem utilizing
their computers. If you should have any problems contact
me [email protected].
If you are installing Peach OSI on a small screen
appliance like a Netbook you may
want to set the dock (icon menu at the bottom of the
screen) to auto hide so as to preserve more screen space
for any open windows. To set the dock to auto hide
A.) Right click anywhere on the dock
B.) Select "Panel" from the pull down menu
C.) Select "Panel Preferences" from the next menu pull
down
D.) Tick the box beside that reads, "Automatically show
and hide the panel
The dock will then hide to give your smaller screen more
available space.
In order to show the dock simply move the cursor to the
bottom of the screen.
Credits: There is no way that I can give credit to all
the people that have a part in
Peach OSI. However, their individual Licenses and
Agreements can be found here:
Click on "Files" above - then "File System" - then open
the folder usr, then share, then doc. From there you can
get a copyright notice for each application installed on
the Peach OSI under each applications doc folder along
with any other pertinent information.

in the sense of freedom: to assure everyone the effective
freedom to copy and redistribute it, with or without
modifying it, either commercially or non-commercially.
Secondarily, this License preserves for the author and

being considered responsible for modifications made by
others. This License is a kind of "copy left", which
means that derivative works of the document must
themselves be free in the same sense. It complements the
GNU General Public License, which is a copy left license
designed for free software. License: This package is free

Free Software Foundation, Inc., 51 Franklin St, Fifth
Floor, Boston, MA 02110-1301 USA ? Licensing Peach OSI is
a collection of thousands of computer programs and
documents created by a range of individuals, teams and
companies. Each of these programs may come under a
different license. This license policy describes the
process that we follow in determining which software will
be included by default in the Peach OSI operating system.
Copyright licensing and trademarks are two different
areas of law, and we consider them separately in Peach
OSI. The following policy applies only to copyright
licenses. We evaluate trademarks on a case-by-case basis.
Categories of software in Peach OSI The thousands of
software packages available for Peach OSI are organized
into four key groups or components: main, restricted,
universe and multi-verse. Software is published in one of
these components based on whether or not it meets our
free software philosophy, and the level of support we can
provide for it. This policy only addresses the software
that you will find in main and restricted, which contain
software that is fully supported by the Peach OSI team
and must comply with this policy. Peach OSI 'main'
component license policy All application software
included in the Peach OSI main component: Must include
source code. The main component has a strict and non-
negotiable requirement that application software included
in it must come with full source code. Must allow
modification and distribution of modified copies under
the same license. Just having the source code does not
convey the same freedom as having the right to change it.
Without the ability to modify software, the Peach OSI
community cannot support software, fix bugs, translate
it, or improve it. Peach OSI 'main' and 'restricted'
component license policy All application software in both
main and restricted must meet the following requirements:
Must allow redistribution. Your right to sell or give
away the software alone, or as part of an aggregate
software distribution, is important because: You, the
user, must be able to pass on any software you have
received from Peach OSI in either source code or compiled
form. While Peach OSI will not charge license fees for
this distribution, you might want to charge to print
Peach OSI CDs, or create your own customized versions of
Peach OSI which you sell, and should have the freedom to
do so. Must not require royalty payments or any other fee
for redistribution or modification. It's important that
you can exercise your rights to this software without
having to pay for the privilege, and that you can pass
these rights on to other people on exactly the same
basis. Must allow these rights to be passed on along with
the software. You should be able to have exactly the same
rights to the software as we do. Must not discriminate
against persons, groups or against fields of endeavor.
The license of software included in Peach OSI can not
discriminate against anyone or any group of users and
cannot restrict users from using the software for a
particular field of endeavor - a business for example. So
we will not distribute software that is licensed "freely
for non-commercial use". Must not be distributed under a
license specific to Peach OSI. The rights attached to the
software must not depend on the program being part of
Peach OSI system. So we will not distribute software for
which Peach OSI has a "special" exemption or right, and
we will not put our own software into Peach OSI and then
refuse you the right to pass it on. Must not contaminate
other software licenses. The license must not place
restrictions on other software that is distributed along
with it. For example, the license must not insist that
all other programs distributed on the same medium be free
software. May require source modifications to be
distributed as patches. In some cases, software authors
are happy for us to distribute their software and
modifications to their software, as long as the two are
distributed separately, so that people always have a copy
of their pristine code. We are happy to respect this
preference. However, the license must explicitly permit
distribution of software built from modified source code.
Documentation, firmware and drivers Peach OSI contains
licensed and copyrighted works that are not application
software. For example, the default Peach OSI installation
includes documentation, images, sounds, video clips and
firmware. The Peach OSI community will make decisions on
the inclusion of these works on a case-by-case basis,
ensuring that these works do not restrict our ability to
make Peach OSI available free of charge, and that you can
continue to redistribute Peach OSI. Software installed by
default When you install Peach OSI, you will typically
install a complete desktop environment. It is also
possible to install a minimal set of software (just
enough to boot your machine) and then manually select the
precise software applications to install. Such a "custom"
install is usually favored by server administrators, who
prefer to keep only the software they absolutely need on
the server. All of the application software installed by
default is free software. In addition, we install some
hardware drivers that are available only in binary
format, but such packages are clearly marked in the
restricted component.
