NASA's space shuttle Atlantis and its 747 carrier taxied
on the Edwards Air Force Base flightline as the unusual
combination left for Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on
March 1, 2001. Atlantis and the shuttle Columbia were
both airborne on the same day as they migrated from
California to Florida. Columbia underwent refurbishing at
nearby Palmdale, California.
