Jack Mowrey started on the waterfront in 1916. Originally | |
from Japan, he had spent most of his life on ships until | |
he landed in St. Helens, Oregon. He participated in World | |
War I and went back to St. Helens in 1919 after his | |
release. He later went to Portland and joined Local 8 of | |
the ILWU. | |
