in the South Pacific, a two-week stay in the Marquesas, |

and whaling in the Kodiak Grounds off Alaska. She records |
|
the daily work on the ship including discovering the |
|
mizzen top mast being rotten. She records precise |
|
locations of all events including a lunar eclipse and the |
|
fact that the chronometer is slow. Two crewmen attempt to |
|
desert the ship but are apprehended by native policemen |
|
who collect |
