King Fire Update - Hundreds more people have been
evacuated due to a rapidly expanding wildfire near the El
Dorado County community of Pollock Pines. The U.S Forest

Elk Grove Bid for MLS/ Ryan Lillis on Sac's MLS Bid -
Major League Soccer officials will be in town this week
evaluating Sacramento's bid for an expansion team. But
that won't be the only city they'll be visiting. They're
heading to Elk Grove to hear that city's pitch for an MLS
team.
Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis has said he's willing to
combine bids with Sacramento, but at this point the city
is working on a separate plan to land a professional
soccer team. Joining us to explain what the city has in
the works is Vice Mayor of Elk Grove Jim Cooper.
Support for soccer in Sacramento was made undeniably
clear when fans shattered attendance records during the
first season of the city's lower-division USL Pro soccer
club, The Republic FC. Now, Major League Soccer is paying
attention. MLS executives will be in Sacramento Thursday
and Friday to evaluate the city's bid for a professional
soccer team. There are currently three other cities vying
for a professional franchise - Minneapolis, Las Vegas and
San Antonio- but the group developing the bid, which
includes Sacramento Republic President Warren Smith and
owner Kevin Nagle, are hoping the city's football fan
frenzy and plans to build a soccer stadium will beat the
competition. The Sacramento Bee's Metropolitan Reporter
Ryan Lillis has been following the story closely and
joins us to outline what MLS is looking for in Sacramento
this week.
Italian Film Fest - 32nd annual Italian Film Festival
begins its 2014-2015 season this Friday with the highly
acclaimed international movie, "Certified Copy." The 2010
film by Iranian writer-director Abbas Kiarostami is set
in Tuscany and stars French actress Juliette Binoche and
English opera singer William Shimell. The Italian
Cultural Society of Sacramento is sponsoring the
festival, which features one film a month at the Italian
Cultural Center in Fair Oaks through Winter 2015. This
Friday's film begins at 8:00 p.m. and festival organizer
Bob Masullo joins us to talk more about the six movies
he'll be screening.
Exquisite Corps - Local musical trio Exquisite Corps was
born out of a downtown alley garage in the spring of 2011
and released their first album the following year's
summer. The band's members, Bryan Valenzuela, Robby Dean,
and Nathan Webb, describe their sound as a marriage of
classic and modern, merging indie rock with classical
string sounds. The band's second album Vignettes will
release at the Witch Room in Sacramento on the evening of
September 20th. The show will feature the band's core
trio alongside special guests on horns.
