GET LAMP: Mike Gentry Interview

Several people had suggested I meet up with Mike Gentry -
his work, Anchorhead, had itself turned a bunch of heads
with its style, emotion, and approach. While one can
never really tell what someone is "first" and "second",
he seemed a great writer first who happened to use
interactive fiction to tell one of his stories, not
unlike Adam Cadre with Photopia. So we made an
arrangement to meet in Virginia, at his home.
You never know how things will turn out for any
interview, and in Mike's case, his interview was cut
short for the silliest of reasons - it was Sunday, and
one of the neighbors was working on something that
required a very loud, very screeching tool, either a saw
or grinder, to assemble. Over time, the screeching got to
the point that we couldn't go on... but I definitely got
a good collection of quotes from him, which were used in
a few places in the main episode. This 18 minute
collection of quotes, however, shows the actual depth of
Mike's thinking along the lines of what Interactive
Fiction can do in the hands of someone thinking of it as
a writer first.
