This report reviews and discusses the results of an
extensive year-long study of school discipline in Western
Australian secondary schools. Through its investigation,
the committee attempted to determine the nature and
extent of disciplinary problems, to ascertain the factors
contributing to these disciplinary problems, and to
recommend measures for their resolution. Data for the
study was compiled from case study reports on 73
"extremely deviant" students and from four separate
questionnaires that were distributed to all secondary
school teachers in Western Australia, administrators at
all secondary schools in Western Australia, a randomly
selected sample of secondary students, and a random
sample of secondary students' parents. Detailed data from
the case study reports and questionnaire responses are
presented in numerous tables and graphs throughout the
report, and a sample of each of the survey forms is
included in the Appendix. (JG)
