We present second-year results from a two-year study on a
novel, inexpensive, passive, wireless solution for
performing nondestructive evaluation on the structural
integrity of aging aircraft. Electro-mechanical resonant
phenomena in barium strontium titanate thin films have
been thoroughly investigated using microwave reflectivity
spectroscopy. Additionally, piezoelectric lead zirconate
titanate thin films have been electrically characterized
in terms of capacitance and dielectric loss tangent.
Finally, we have explored the integration of such devices
into a detection system involving piezoelectric wafer
active transducers.
