An enhancement preliminary assessment was conducted at
Hamilton Army Airfield (HAA), which is planned for
inclusion in the Base Closure Program. Based on
information obtained during and subsequent to a site
visit from 26 September through 29 September 1989, 12
Environmentally Significant Operations (ESOs) were
identified: asbestos on and within buildings, underground
storage tanks (USTs), aboveground storage tanks (ASTs),
transformers, aircraft maintenance/storage areas, Burn
Pit, former radiological disposal site, former sewage
treatment facility, JP-4 line, Revetment Area, landfill,
and bombing range. Recommended actions for the site
investigation of the 12 ESOs include: proceeding with
asbestos survey recommendations; inventory and test all
transformers; collect soil and ground water (GW) samples
from the POL Area; locate and leak testing remaining
USTs; collect soil samples from beneath remaining asts;
collect soil, sediment, and GW samples from
maintenance/storage areas/storm sewer; field
investigation and leak test of JP-4 line; soil and GW
samples in Revetment Areas; GW samples from landfill;
ordnance sweep of bombing range areas; and soil samples
from sewage treatment sludge drying beds. No additional
action is needed for the former radiological disposal
site, as the cylinders were removed and reports indicate
no contamination exists.
