Colonial Country Club-16th Hole Dam has a 4.5 acre lake
and is located in Shelby County, Tennessee in the
Countrywood subdivision, and is an earth fill embankment
25 feet high and 344 feet long. The crest varies from 10
feet to 15 feet in width. Facilities for discharge from
the reservoir are located in the west abutment and
include a timber covered concrete structure with a 5.3
foot by 0.77 foot opening that is located in the
emergency spillway ten feet landward from the control
section of the emergency spillway. The emergency spillway
has a cross-tie weir nine feet long. Excess water not
intercepted by the service spillway is carried in a swale
located between the toe of the dam and the foundations of
two houses. The embankment slopes are one vertical on
three horizontal. The upstream slope is partially
protected by light riprap. Both the upstream and
downstream slopes have undesirable vegetation. The dam is
in the small size category and has a downstream hazard
potential classification of high by the Corps of
Engineers and I by the State of Tennessee. On the basis
of hydraulic analysis, the dam flood storage (15.7 acre-
feet) and spillways are adequate to safely pass the 1/2
Probable Maximum Flood (PMF), which Office of the Chief
of Engineers (OCE) Guidelines specify to be the design
flood for a dam in the small size and high hazard
categories. (Author)
