Tens of thousands of anti-racist activists marched in
Boston, Massachusetts over the weekend, entirely
eclipsing the so-called "Free Speech" rally planned by
white supremacists. On the same weekend, more than a
hundred groups gathered in Washington DC to call
attention to the unjust and racist prison system in the
US. On today's show we'll turn to Laila Aziz of the group
I Am We Prisoner Advocacy Network to discuss both events
and how they were linked. Then, historian and academic
Yohuru Williams will explain just what confederate
statues represent to African Americans and people of
color and why they must come down no matter what. Finally
Nancy MacLean will join us to discuss her new book
Democracy in Chains: The Deep History of the Radical
Right's Stealth Plan for America. In her book MacLean
makes the connections between the backlash to the civil
rights movement and the GOP's billionaire-funded
privatization agenda.
