2023-11-19 Sun 22:51 Procrastination via programming

Ops I did it again.  Almost whole weekend spent on programming new
program.  In last log entry I talked about idea for a multi protocol
CLI browser.  I also briefly mentioned problem with procrastination
via programming.  So instead of working on what I should I was coding
"yupa" the Gopher CLI client that will eventually support multiple
protocols.  It can already load and format Gopher Hole.  I feel proud
not guilty (^-^ )

Procrastination in general is viewed as bad thing but I don't see it
that way.  In this particular example with programming random stuff I
don't even fight it anymore.  I embrace it.  This is one of the best
fuel that can keep me working for many hours without break.  And it's
not like I neglected my duties.  So I allowed myself to procrastinate.

Procrastination is usually undesirable and used as synonym for wasting
time.  But if you look closely you will see that this is an neutral
force that can be turned into a weapon.  In it's core it is a desire
to do just one more small thing that is easy to do at given time.  And
with each new small easy task you are gaining momentum that is hard to
break.  With this definition you can observe that it has a potential
to be used in any activity.

For example if you just prepare yourself for wasching dishes and do
nothing more.  This one simple task that doesn't require any cleaning
just yet.  Then it will be very easy to JUST rearrange mess in kitchen
sink.  But no cleaning, NO NO NO, I'm not here to clean.  Only playing
around, I will only take this one cup and wash it.  Then small plate.
Wait, what is happening to me?  Am I even in control?  I guess there
is no turning back now.  I have to do it all.  If you only knew the
power of the procrastination!  Join me, together we can rule the
kitchen sink.

So why is it that stupid humans procrastinate most of the time doing
useless things?  Probably because we make first step much easier in
entertainment rather than work.  Next movie just click away.  The
strategy here would be to make first step easy in things you want or
have to do.  If entertainment is getting in the way then ensure the
first step to it is much harder.  Eventually there will be no need to
fight with our nature.  Quote by Lao Tzu comes to my mind:

> Watch your thoughts, they become words;
> watch your words, they become actions;
> watch your actions, they become habits;
> watch your habits, they become character;
> watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.

Watch your procrastination, use it for programming!

I will go wasch the dishes now...
