Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
28 oz Bush's baked beans (2 cans)
1 lb Ground chuck
1/2 Green bell pepper -- seeded,
- chopped
1/2 Sweet red pepper -- seeded,
- chopped
2 c Onion -- diced
1 c Kraft hickory smoked BBQ sauce
4 Whole cloves
4 Whole allspice
8 Whole peppercorns
3 ts BBQ rub seasoning
1/2 ts Cayenne pepper (optional)
1/2 c Brown sugar
Drain beans in a colander and set aside. Place allspice, peppercorns,
and whole cloves in a spice mill or blender. Process until coarsely
ground.
Brown the ground chuck in a 6 to 8 qt sauce pan or large skillet.
Crumble the beef with a spoon or spatula as it is cooking. Drain and
return to the sauce pan.
Sauté the peppers and onion with the browned, crumbled ground chuck
until the onion is just starting to become translucent. Stir in the
drained beans and BBQ sauce. Heat until it begins to bubble, stirring
occasionally. Stir in spice mixture and brown sugar. Reduce heat and
simmer for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 375°F.
Transfer beans to a suitable, oven proof serving dish. Bake,
uncovered, in oven for 30 minutes. Serve hot from the oven or allow
to cool as desired.
