                     Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

  1      c             Sugar
  1      c             Pumpkin
    1/2  c             Shortening
  1      tb            Orange peel -- grated
  2      c             Flour
  1      ts            Baking powder
  1      ts            Baking soda
  1      ts            Cinnamon
    1/4  ts            Salt
  1      c             Chocolate chips

Mix together sugar, pumpkin, shortening, and orange peel with mixer
until well blended. Sift dry ingredients, except chocolate chips, and
stir into blended mixture. Add chocolate chips. Drop onto ungreased
cookie sheet. Bake at 375°F until light brown, about 8 to 10 minutes.
