                               Beef Stew

  2      lb            Beef stew meat
    1/2  c             All-purpose flour
  3      tb            Shortening
  1      md            Onion -- chopped
  4                    Carrots -- sliced
  1      cl            Garlic -- minced
  2                    Bay leaves
  1      ts            Salt
  1      ts            Sugar
    1/2  ts            Black pepper
    1/2  ts            Paprika
    1/8  ts            Ground cloves
  1      ts            Lemon juice
  1      ts            Worcestershire sauce
  4      c             Water

Dredge meat in flour, melt shortening in skillet. Add beef cubes to
skillet and saute until evenly browned. Transfer to Crock-Pot. Add
onion, carrots, celery, garlic, and other seasonings. Pour in water
and stir. Cover and cook on Low 10 to 12 hours or on High 5 to 6
hours. Serve.
