Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

2 1/2 c Split peas (16 oz)
2 1/2 c Lentils (16 oz)
2 1/2 c Pearl barley (16 oz)
2 c Brown rice -OR-
2 c Macaroni (8 oz)
1/2 c Celery flakes
1/2 c Parsley flakes
1/2 ts Thyme
1/2 ts White pepper
Mix all ingredients together. Store in a jar with a tight fitting
lid. Stir before using.
To give as a gift:
Put 1 cup of soup mix in plastic bag with these instructions:
Combine soup mix with 4 cups of water or seasoned stock in a large
pan. Add 1 cup cooked chopped meat, if desired. Bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to low and cover pan. Simmer gently for 45-50 minutes, or
until peas are tender. Add 1/2 ts salt, if desired.
