6 md Apples
2 c Flour -- sifted
1 1/2 ts Baking powder
1/2 ts Salt
1/2 c Shortening
1/3 c Milk
1 tb Butter
6 tb Honey
1 tb Lemon juice
1/4 ts Salt
Honeysauce:
3/4 c Honey
2 tb Butter
2 tb Shortening
1/4 ts Salt
1/4 ts Cinnamon
1/4 ts Nutmeg
Pare and core apples. Sift flour with baking powder and salt; cut in
shortening. Add milk, mixing until soft dough is formed. Roll dough
into 12x8" rectangle; cut into six squares. Place an apple in each
square. Combine butter, honey, lemon juice, and salt; blend well.
Fill apple centers with mixture. Moisten edges of dough with cold
water. Bring four corners of dough on top of apples; press edges
firmly together. Place in greased 10x10x2" pan.
Honeysauce:
Combine honey, butter, shortening, and salt with 1-1/2 cups water.
Bring to a boil; boil for 5 minutes. Pour over dumplings.
Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg. Bake at 400 F for 30 to
35 minutes.
