MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

     Title: Poached Pears
Categories: Fruits, Desserts
     Yield: 4 servings

     4    Pears
     1 l  Water
   250 g  Sugar
     1    Cinnamon stick
     1    Vanilla pod
     2    Star anise
     5    Whole cloves
          Lemon peel

 Peel the pears, leaving the stem on. Cut off the bottom
 so they can stand when plating

 Place all the ingredients except the pears in a saucepan
 and bring to a boil

 Add pears to the saucepan and reduce to a simmer. Poach
 for about 45 minutes or until the pears are soft

 Let the pears cool down. Meanwhile, boil the syrup until
 it reduces and thickens to a glaze

 Serve the pears warm or cold with syrup and some cream,
 or even better, with creme anglaise!
