     2 c  Sugar
     1 c  Half-and-half
     1 ds Salt
     1 tb Butter
 1 1/2 ts Vanilla
   1/2 c  Marshmallow creme
   1/2 c  Candied cherries; chopped

 Combine sugar, half-and-half, and salt in a large 5-qt microwave-safe bowl.
 Microwave for 4 1/2 to 5 minutes at HIGH until mixture boils, stirring
 once. Stir. Microwave again for 6 to 8 minutes at MED-HIGH (70%)-<see *
 below> or until 235 deg. on candy thermometer. Stir in butter and cool to
 110 deg. without stirring (about 15 mins. at room temp.) Add vanilla and
 beat vigorously until mixture begins to hold its shape. Add marshmallow
 creme and continue beating until mixture starts to lose its gloss. Quickly
 stir in cherries and pour into a buttered 8 inch square pan. Cool. Cut into
 squares. Yield 36 candies or 1 1/4 lbs.*Compact microwaves use HIGH (100%)
 for MED-High.
