     Title: Stuffed Date Drops From the '50's

     Yield: 1 servings

     1 lb Pitted dates; (about 70)
    70    Pecan halves (about 3 oz.)
   1/4 c  Shortening
   3/4 c  Brown sugar
     1    Egg
 1 1/4 c  Flour
   1/2 ts Baking powder
   1/2 ts Soda
   1/4 ts Salt
   1/2 c  Dairy sour cream
          Frosting: see below

     Stuff dates with nut halves. Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar.
 Beat in egg. Sift dry ingredients together. Add alternately with sour cream
 to creamed mixture. Stir in dates, gently. Drop onto greased cookie sheets
 (1 date per cookie).  Bake at 400 deg. for 8-10 minutes. Top with Golden
 Frosting.
    GOLDEN FROSTING:
     1/2    cup margarine or butter
       3    cups sifted powdered sugar
     3/4    teaspoon vanilla
       3    tablespoons water (about)
     Lightly brown butter. Remove from heat and gradually beat in sugar and
 vanilla. Slowly add water until of spreading consistency. Makes about 70
