MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

     Title: Sourdough Cherry Dumplings

     Yield: 8 Servings

     6 c  Pitted sour cherries; fresh
          -or frozen, unsweetened
     1 c  White sugar
   1/2 c  Water
     1 c  Flour
   1/4 c  White sugar
   1/2 ts Salt
     1 ts Baking soda
     1 ts Baking powder
   1/4 c  Crisco; room temperature
     1 c  Sourdough; up to 1 1/2 c

 Put cherries, sugar (1 cup) and water in a 2-quart saucepan with a
 tight lid over high heat.

 Sift dry ingredients together into a mixing bowl. Blend in Crisco with
 fingertips. Stir in enough sourdough to make a very soft dough. When
 cherry mixture begins to boil, drop dumpling dough on top of cherries
 by spoonfulls. Put on lid. Turn heat down to low. Let cook 15
 minutes. Put dumplings into individual serving dishes, pour cherries
 over them. Serve with cream or ice cream on top. (Other fruit may be
 used in place of cherries, if desired.)
