1 c Sugar
2 tb Butter -- softened
2 Egg yolks -- well beaten
4 tb Milk
Flavoring
2 Egg whites -- beaten
1 ts Cream of tartar
1/2 ts Baking soda
1 c Flour
Topping:
1 c Sweetened cream -- whipped
Flavoring
Stir together sugar and butter; add 2 well beaten egg yolks, then add
4 tb milk, some flavoring, then the beaten egg whites. Mix 1 ts of
cream of tartar and 1/2 ts baking soda in 1 cup of flour, sift it
into the cake batter and stir lightly. Bake in a small dripping-pan.
When the cake is cool, have ready half a pint of sweet cream
sweetened and whipped to a stiff froth, also flavored. Spread it over
the cake while fresh. To whip the cream easily, set it on ice before
whipping.
