Categories: Breads
     Yield: 3 Loaves

     8 c  Flour; sifted
   1/2 c  Vegetable oil
     1 pk Yeast
     2 c  Water; lukewarm
   1/2 c  Water; lukewarm
 1 1/2 ts Salt
     1 tb Sugar
   1/2 c  Sugar
     1    Egg; beaten

Sift 8 cups flour into a bowl and set aside. Dissolve package of
yeast in 1/2 cup lukewarm water. To this add 1 tb sugar. Let stand in
 warm place for 45 minutes.

Beat in egg, oil, remaining water, salt, and sugar. Stir in some of
the flour gradually into the other ingredients until the batter is
fairly thick. Then pour on a floured board and knead for 10 minutes.
Place in well-greased bowl and let rise until double in size. Cover
while rising. Punch down and knead edges in, then turn dough and let
rise again. Cut dough into 3 portions. Shape into loaves--place each
loaf in well-greased pan. Let rise until double in size. Place in
cold oven, turn heat to 400 degrees F. After 15 minutes reduce heat
to 375 degrees F and bake bread 25 minutes longer. Remove from oven.
Brush with butter. Turn out on wire rack to cool.
