                               Date Loaf

  3      c             Sugar
  1 1/2  c             Whole milk
    1/4  c             Margarine
  4      c             Pecans -- chopped
  1      lb            Dates -- chopped
  1 1/2  ts            Vanilla

Heat sugar, milk, and margarine to a slow boil to soft-ball stage,
then remove from heat. Add pecans, dates, and vanilla; to make a
stiff dough. Form into 2 logs, about 2" in diameter, each. Wrap in a
cotton or linen towel and refrigerate until chilled.
