3. Frequently Asked Questions
: What are all the different types of stars?
A: Power Star, Grand Star, Green Power Star, Red Power Star.
: I got all stars in one galaxy and it doesn't mark as complete!
A: Most big galaxies have one secret star, the comet star, the Luigi star, and
the Purple Coins star. It won't be complete until you get all of that, and most
of that can only be gotten later in the game.
: I seem to be missing some stars!
A: There are a lot of secret stars in Mario Galaxy. Don't forget to re-visit
past galaxies for secret stars (marked as ? next to a previous star you got),
and stars earned from beating a level when a comet enters in orbit. Luigi (once
you free him) will also help you find stars. Don't forget to pick up your mail
so you receive his letters. Also make sure you didn't miss to feed any hungry
Luma around the observatories.
: What do you get for beating the game? For getting all 120 stars?
A: The purple coins challenge will be available after you beat the game, and
getting all stars unlock Luigi as a playable character.

Introduction
Castle Gardens
Get a hold on the controls and follow the path to the town square, where a
nifty festival is being held. After the little cinematic, head over to the
castle, leaving the destroyed village behind, for another cinematic.
Gateway Galaxy
Grand Star Rescue
Mario will then find himself on another planet, awaken by a cute funny-looking
bunny (aww I want one!). Follow it around and press A to jump, as instructed.
More bunnies will show up and propose to play hide-and-seek
(hide-and-squeeeze). Familiarize yourself with your new surroundings to start.
You can walk around the planet in any directions without falling thanks to the
gravity. To jump higher, press Z + A, or you can also jump farther if you do
this while running. Point at the Star Bits on the little houses with the
Wiimote to collect them. Now to find the three bunnies, there's one inside a
crater, one hidden in tall grass, and the last one is just hopping around. Run
after them in circles to catch them, they seem to slow down after a while.
You'll then be ready to meet with Rosalina, waiting for you atop the stone
structure.
A new power, the spin, will be available to you. Use it (shake the Wiimote) to
smash the crystals and reveal a Launch Star. Spinning into one launches you to
a different planet. Do this to reach the next planet, where you'll need to find
five Star Chips to restore the Launch Star. Walk around the planet, watch out
for the holes, and collect the Star Chips, laying around or stuck inside
breakable crystals. You can also collect an Extra Life atop a stone that
requires the Z + A jump. When you're done, take the Launch Star to the next
planet. Talk to the star held prisoner first, then defeat all the enemies by
spinning and then running into them or jumping on top of their head. The last
one will release a key to free the luma. Now use the Sling Star to reach a new
planet.
Here, find the giant Goomba and spin next to the red crystal thing while the
Goomba is close by to knock him off. Spin attack him while he's lying flat on
his head to release the key to free the second luma. Pick up coins to restore
health if you need. Now head over to it and drop down in the pipe to find
yourself inside the planet. Your newset task is to rescue the Grand Star by
stopping the machine holding it. To do so, walk on all flipswitches across the
room to turn them blue. In addition to the middle ones surrounding the Grand
Star, there are four more around the room. Walk around in all directions to
find them. Once you've freed the Grand Star, go pick it up to be brought to the
Observatory Grounds. From this place, which acts as a hub, you can access all
other worlds. Rosalina will explain the quest, and off you go.
Enter the Terrace and point the Wiimote at the Pull Star. Select the Good Egg
Galaxy.
Terrace
Good Egg Galaxy
Dino Piranha
Start by heading down the orange bridge on the left, following it to the very
top. Talk to the luma to get a Launch Star that will send you to a weird egg
shaped planet. Collect the five Star Chips scattered around it to make a new
Launch Star appear. Watch out for the rocks rolling around, and also, the grey
parts will make you walk slower. Press C to move the camera and get a better
view of where the Star Chips are. The Launch Star will send you to a bean
shaped piece of planet. Collect the ? Coin to get an Extra Life and spin attack
the piranha plant to make a vine appear. Spin while on it to reach a new part.
Avoid the boulders and make your way to the top, where a purple piranha plant
awaits. Spin attack one of the small green plants nearby, towards the piranha
plant, to hit it in the face. Use the new vine to reach yet another bean shaped
area. Climb to the top of the structure and spin to smash the crystal. Use the
Launch Star to get to the first boss. This one is quite simple fortunately,
simply spin attack the tip of its tail to free it of its egg shell, then repeat
the process two more times to defeat it. Running in circles around it to reach
its tail will allow you to escape its attacks (don't run straight or you'll
never get it; make short cuts). Really not very difficult. Pick up the Power
Star after the fight.
Now follow the instructions back at the Observatory and shoot Star Bits at the
Luma with B. Re-select the galaxy and choose the second level.
A Snack of Cosmic Proportions
You'll need 100 Star Bits to complete this level, so might as well start now.
Walk in the flower patches to get some, and spin around the grass for more. You
can collect tons of them if you head down to the other side of the planet
piece. Aim at the trees with the Wiimote to collect them and look in the grass
here too. When you're done pick up a fair number, return to the top part and
head down the bridge at the right. Follow it to the end and talk to the luma.
Point at the blue stars to grab them and reach the Launch Star. In the next
area, you can get more Star Bits by spinning next to the plants and destroying
the spikey flowers. Goombas also drop Star Bits when you defeat them. Smash the
crystal holding the Launch Star when you're done to reach a round planet. Smash
the crystals around it to get more Star Bits and free the Launch Star. Use it
to reach a familiar looking egg. Talk to the luma here and feed him the 100
Star Bits you've been picking up by shooting them at him (B Button). He'll then
transform into a Launch Star which you can use to reach a new planet. Go around
it and start climbing. Spin at the green plants to hit the spikey flowers and
clear the path. Jump between the two walls with the Extra Life to reach the top
where a Launch Star awaits. This one will launch you to a capsule. Look around
it for a crystal that hides a hole. Jump down the hole to find yourself inside.
All you need to know is that the red walls will lift you up and the blue ones
down. With that in mind, work your way to the top (watch out for the moving
blocks). The Launch Star will send you to the last area. Collect the five Star
Chips around the star structure (don't worry about falling, you can walk around
it), then use the Pull Stars by pointing the Wiimote at them. What you need to
do to get the Power Star in the middle is to moving from a star to the other,
diagonally. Grab the star in the opposite direction that will get you towards
the Power Star, collecting it along the way.
You now have enough Power Stars to access a new galaxy, or go for the third
level of this one.
King Kaliente's Battle Fleet
To reach the Launch Star atop the house (your destination), head down to the
bottom part of the planet and down the orange pipe. Walk on the walls and
collect the ? Coin. Picking up all the musical notes will fetch you an Extra
Life. The pipe on the ceiling will land you on the rooftop where you can use
the Launch Star to reach an oasis planet. Free the purple Toad from the crystal
first, to get a hint on what to do next. Spinning next to the coconut (towards
the spiky plants) will destroy them. The biggest one will reveal a Sling Star
to get to another part of the oasis. This time, repeat the same process, but
shooting the coconut into the spikey cactus enemy. Jump on its head to finish
it off and use the Launch Star to land on a small meteor. Go down the pipe on
the other side to get inside and collect the ? Coin. Pick up the rainbow star
to turn into Rainbow Mario and crush all these enemies! Back on the meteor, use
the Launch Star to reach a bigger one. Walk around a bit to collect coins, then
head to the opposite side (the top), jumping over the electric field. Climb to
the top of the structure in the center, avoiding the bullets and many enemies,
and smash the crystal to use the Launch Star. Once on the ship, free the green
Toad to get a hint if you need. To defeat the enemies shooting at you from the
other side, wait for them to shoot a green ball and spin right before it hits
you to send it back to them (avoid the fire balls though). The bridge will drop
once you destroy both. Cross it and smash the wooden crate on the edge of the
ship to find a Life Mushroom. Climb up to the right and use the Launch Star to
reach the last area, where King Kaliente is awaiting. Walk to the top and
prepare for the boss battle. This is another easy one. When Kaliente shoots
fire balls, avoid them. When he shoots the green one, spin to send it back at
him, then he will send it back. Send it back once more to hit him. Repeat two
more times, sending the green ball back at him every time. He'll shoot faster,
and you'll need to watch out for the ice enemies, but otherwise it's a piece of
cake. Collect the Power Star after the fight.
You can now select the Honeyhive Galaxy.
Luigi on the Roof
(Note: Don't worry about this until later in the game).
After getting Luigi's letter, re-enter the first level and head down the orange
pipe on the other side of the planetoid you start on. Walk across the walls to
reach the pipe on the ceiling and go through it. You'll find yourself on the
house's rooftop, where Luigi is. Talk to him to receive the Power Star.
Honeyhive Galaxy
Bee Mario Takes Flight
Start by heading up the hill on the right and collect the ? Coin in the
fountain. Go pick up the Bee Mushroom that just appeared below to transform
into Bee Mario. Hold A to fly up the cliffs, but make sure not to touch water.
Jump down the tree stump at the end to slide down a slope leading to a higher
wall. Jump, then hold A to fly above it. Use the Launch Star at the end of the
path to reach a pond. Get to one of the giant flower's stem and spin to get
atop the flower. Climb up to the tallest flower and use the Launch Star by
flying up to it first, then spinning as usual. You'll now reach up to the hive.
Work you way to the very top by climbing on the walls covered in honey and
defeat the piranha plant to make a vine appear. Now see the bee queen? Well,
fly to her using the flowers and climb onto her! You can walk around her soft
gentle body (I just had to say that) to collect the five Star Chips. Once
that's done, fly to the Launch Star behind her to launch yourself atop the
tallest tree of the planet. Talk to the Toad here to receive the Power Star.
Trouble on the Tower
Head over to the right and do a ground pound (A+Z) on the stone next to the bee
to reveal a vine. Doing so on other stones will get you Star Bits. Use the vine
to reach a higher part of the level. Ground pound the stone to the right to
reveal a spring, leading to a Launch Star. Perform a ground pound on the spring
to be launched into the Star and land on another part. Climb up to the red
switch and ground pound it to make a bridge appear. Cross and ground pound the
wooden switch to make part of the wall fall down. Now climb up and use wall
jumping to get to the top. Start by jumping against the left wall, then press A
as you touch the wall to bounce back on the opposite wall, and thus reach the
top. Repeat the same with the wooden walls at the end of the stream to reach
another Launch Star. You'll be sent to a hat shaped area with Piranha Plants.
Walk to the bottom part of the area and jump down to land back on the platform
right beneath it. Walk down to the bottom here too and get into the Launch
Star. Pick up the ? Coin on the next planet piece to collect a rainbow star and
get invisibility. Strike down all the Piranha Plants around, then drop down in
the tree strump in the middle to fall down to a lower part of the level. Work
your way to the left and get the Life Mushroom below. Climb back up using the
spring on the right and jump between the two walls to go up. Go left then to
ground pound the red switch and activate the mill. Get atop the tower using the
platforms to meet up with the infamous Mandibug. To defeat it (or them), jump
on top of it and ground pound the small beetle on the big one's back. It will
then become red and start moving faster. Ground pound this one as well to
dispose of it. Collect your well-earned Power Star.
Big Bad Bugaboom
Watch out as now there's Mandibugs everywhere. You can destroy them with a
ground pound. Head over to the right at the start of the level, where the
fountain is, and get caught into a bubble shot by the cannon to be launched to
a higher platform. Pick up the Life Mushroom on the left, then jump down and
grab the Bee Mushroom on the lillypad to transform. Climb up the pole, or use
the pipe, to go back to the lower area. Fly up to the pathway into the rockface
(where the little waterfall is, the same path from the first level) and talk
with the bee queen. Use the Launch Star to reach a small platform with a
flower. Use its stem to get a lift up, then hold A to fly over to the next
platform. Repeat the same and get to the tree where the biggest Mandibug yet
awaits, for another boss battle. For the first phase, he will be running around
the tree. You can avoid him by standing on the edge of the platform. Simply fly
up and land on his back. Ground pound it once. For the second phase, the
Mandibug will fly around. Use the flower stems to fly up to the tree and grip
the honey on its trunk. From there, try to land on the bug's back and ground
pound it once more. The last phase is the same, but the Mandibug will turn red
and will move faster, in addition to being harder to land on. Simply time your
landing right and ground pound it for once and for last. Collect the Power
Star.
Luigi in the Honeyhive Kingdom
To find Luigi in Honeyhive Galaxy, you'll need to climb up the cliff on the
left at the beginning. There are several ways to do it. Either choose the first
level, turn into Bee Mario, and fly up the waterfall up to the tunnel above.
From the edge of the tunnel, fly left to reach the area up the cliff. Or choose
the second level and ground pound the rock at the beginning to use the Sproutle
Vine. It'll get you to the upper area. Climb up to the ledge above. Luigi is up
the tree on the right. Fly up to him or shoot a Star Bit at him to make him
fall off. He'll give you the Power Star.
Loopdeeloop Galaxy
Surfing 101
This level is actually a very basic racing mini-game. Talk to the penguin to
start, who'll explain how it works. Hold down A to advance, tilt the Wiimote to
the left to go left, and tilt the Wiimote to the right to go... right (duh). To
win the Power Star, simply finish the race within 1:30, which is pretty easy to
do if you let go of A to slow down in turns. It can be quite hard to get a hang
on the controls but really nothing overly difficult.
Flipswitch Galaxy
Painting the Planet Yellow
Another fairly simple level but this one requires more thinking. The floor is
made entirely of blue tiles, which turn yellow upon stepping on them. The way
you just to go is important, and how you progress from the first tile to the
last, as they will turn back to blue if you step a second time on them. Start
by turning the starting flipswitch to yellow, then head down. Go around
following the path, then jump on the red moving platform to go over the gap.
Step on the tile as you get off the platform, then continue up and step on all
the flipswitches here while avoiding the obstacles. Go for the last side the
same way you did before, jump on the red platform to avoid being hit by it and
step on the last flipswitch. Once they're all yellow and turn green, go collect
your Power Star.
Bowser Jr.'s Robot Reactor
Megaleg's Moon
Before getting to the boss itself, run around the first planet and find a
cannon. Wait for it to launch a bullet and make sure it sees you and starts
following you around. Don't let it catch you though, run in direction of one
these domes and get behind it before the bullet crashes into the dome and
breaks it. One of them contains a Launch Star which will get you to Megaleg.
You'll see how easy this boss actually is. Run around a bit and wait for him to
drop his foot on the ground next to you. You'll see arrows on it, pointing up.
You know what this means, climb up on his leg, avoiding the bullets, and climb
up and over the obstacles until you reach the top of this giant. Make sure one
of the bullets is following you and jump in direction of the cage in the
middle. The bullet should crush it down upon collision. Once that's done, a new
fence will appear around the cage. Get another bullet to crash into it to break
a piece of it. Just run around the cannons to get bullets to follow you. Either
smash down all the pieces of the fence, or try to get the bullet to follow you
through the hole in the fence and jump above the cage to have the bullet break
it and free the Grand Star.
The Fountain is now available with more new galaxies.
Fountain
Space Junk Galaxy
Pull Star Path
Aim at the Pull Star to grab onto it, then give a push with the Wiimote in
direction of the cylinder to land on it. Use the Pull Stars on the other side
to cross and repeat the same process to land on the sphere. Jump from sphere to
sphere to collect the five Star Chips and repair the Launch Star. Use it to
reach a rocket. Go to the tip of it and the camera view will change, allowing
you to see more Pull Stars in spheres. Aim to them and then release to land on
the spheres. Use the following Pull Stars and navigate your way through the
meteors to reach a structure with many enemies. Climb around it to get to the
top and break all the crystals with the spin attack to free all the Toads. Then
jump on the Starshroom and head to the top to use the Sling Star. For the next
part, you'll need to collect all five pieces of the Power Star to put it back
together. Just walk forward and the path will appear as you advance. Try all
the different paths to pick up all the pieces and head back to the platform
once you've got 'em all to collect your Power Star.
Kamella's Airship Attack
Jump on the Starshrooms to reach the Launch Star and use it to fly over to the
first ship. Flip the switch by spinning into it and the bridge ahead will fall
down. Following the bunny's advice across the bridge, jump to the left and then
spin while in the air to land farther and collect the Extra Life. Go back right
and get on top of the higher stone with a wooden crate. Jump and spin to reach
the Launch Star and land on the second ship. If you're wondering how to reach
the ? block above, perform a Z+A high jump, then spin to hit it. To open the
treasure chests on the deck, pick up a turtle shell and spin next to the chests
to open them. Climb up the stairs with a shell, avoid Kamikoopa's attacks and
break open the chest behind her. Use the Launch Star inside to get to the third
ship. Jump down and free the two Toads from the crystals to get hints. Jump on
the Koopas in the middle to make them get inside their shell, then jump on the
shell a second time to pick it up. The right chest contains a Life Mushroom,
and the second one a red shell. The red shell will act as a missile when you
spin next to it and will hit the first Octopus. For the remaining Octopus, just
use a regular green shell from the Koopas and aim at it to get it. The bridge
will come down after you defeat both. Use the Launch Star inside the last ship
to get to the boss. Kamella will shoot fireballs at you, and shells that'll
spin around on the ground. Jump on the shells to pick them up while avoiding
the shots, then spin while facing Kamella to throw the shell at her. Do this a
second time and two Kamikoopas will join her. Things will become more chaotic
as you try to avoid the blows, but the process is the same. You can defeat the
two Kamikoopas first if you prefer, then Kamella, or just aim for Kamella right
away. The final blow will fetch you the Power Star.
Tarantox's Tangled Web
From the second Starshroom, use the Pull Star to get on the cylinder, then the
other Pull Stars on the other side to reach a planet made of glass, or ice.
Look around it to find a hole leading beneath (I know there's a Luma asking!for
Star Bits, but that's for another Star, ignore him for now). Once underneath,
look around to find a Launch Star. Use it to break through the glass/ice and
get launched to a path with a couple of spiders. At the end of the path, a Toad
stuck in a weird plant will ask will help. Grab the plant with the Wiimote and
pull... then release to let it go. Now jump yourself on the plant and pull in
the direction you want to go to get hurled there. Aim for the next plant, then
aim for the rocket. Smash down the crystal on the rocket to get a Life
Mushroom, then head for the tip of the rocket and use the sticky plant again to
get to a block with some spiders and another weird plant. Now aim for the big
planet ahead to break it open and reveal a giant spider web... and a giant
cocoon. Free the Toad on the right first, then grab the little ball of cobweb
and pull it towards the cocoon to break it open and reveal Tarantox. To defeat
this boss, all you need to do is to get behind it and pull the sticky ball
right in its back. You don't need to do that with the green dots on the sides
of its body, it only stops the poison Tarantox is spitting. You can also shoot
in its face when it's about to spit to stop its movement so you can get to its
back. Otherwise, just shoot it in the back (or butt, depending how you see it).
Once you do this, Tarantox will get on its back and reveal its stomach. Shoot
yourself into the three red dots. The boss will then get back on its feet and
the process will start over, but it'll be spitting more poison. Just repeat the
same thing over again (shoot the back, then the three red dots) to defeat this
boss. The Power Star will then appear in the center, shoot yourself right into
it using the web.
(secret star)
Yoshi's Unexpected Appearance
After you complete the third level, re-enter it to gain a second Star. Remember
the hungry Luma? Make your way over to the glass/ice planet and feed it 50 Star
Bits. If you need Star Bits, go inside the planet by the hole and look around
the grass, break some crystals and spin in the middle of stones to get enough
Star Bits. The luma will turn into a Launch Star after you feed it. Use that
Launch Star to reach a planet shaped like Yoshi's head. Defeat every single
Goomba on this planet to make the Power Star appear. It's easier here to jump
on their heads to defeat them than to use the Spin.
Battlerock Galaxy
Battlerock Barrage
Start by collecting all five Star Chips around the metal platforms to make Pull
Stars appear. You can walk all around the platforms, so also look under them to
find the Star Chips. Grab the second Pull Star to get into the Launch Star and
land on another metal platform. Jump on the little purple spring to bounce up
to another platform above. Get on top of the blue bolt and spin to activate the
platform. You'll now have to avoid many obstacles as the platform move over to
the right. Simply walk around the platform depending on the obstacles. If a
barrier blocks the top, head over to the underside of the platform to avoid it.
If barriers blocks the top and bottom, stand on the side of the platform to
avoid them. You'll then reach the Power Star held inside a cage. Jump on the
platform to the right to spot some bullets and more cages. Have the bullets
follow you around to break the cages and do the same with the cage holding the
Power Star.
Breaking into the Battlerock
Pick up a bomb at the start and spin to throw it at the cage holding the Launch
Star to blow it open. Use it to reach the next part. There's a hungry Luma
asking for Star Bits, here but keep that for later. Pick up a bomb from the tip
of the green sphere and throw it at the cage holding the Luma at the tip of the
red sphere. Talk to him after freeing him to make a Sling Star appear. Use it
to reach the Launch Star above and get to a metal platform. Break the wooden
crate underneath to nab an Extra Life, then use the Pull Stars and naviguate
your way through the mines. Try to grab the Life Mushroom in the middle, then
head for the Launch Star in the top-right corner. It will send you inside a
rocket. Head down the pipe on the side to end up in anothe room with a cage in
the center. Spin attack one of the walking bombs around the room to stop it and
pick it up. Throw it at the cage to blow it and use the cannon to smash the
crystal floating above. After two hits, a Launch Star will be revealed. Get
back inside the cannon to reach the Launch Star and use it to reach the next
area. Here, pick up a bomb and make your way to the tip to throw it at the
cage. Just watch out for the electric fields moving around. Jump into the hole
to get inside the cannon and aim for the Power Star in the middle of all the
moving platforms.
(secret star)
Battlerock's Garbage Dump
Re-enter the second level to gain a second Star. You'll need 30 Star Bits to
get the second Star in the level, so pick them up at the beginning before going
any further. There are some underneath the first metal platform and also the
third one, and the rest inside cages that you can blow up with bombs. Once you
have 30 or more Star Bits, blow open the cage with the Launch Star and use it
to reach the next area. If you didn't get enough Star Bits at the beginning,
you can always pick up a bomb on the tip of the green sphere and use it to blow
up the cage contianing the rainbow star. Once you turn invincible, destroy all
enemies to get more than enough Star Bits. Now feed the hungry Luma 30 Star
Bits and a new platnet will appear. Use the Launch Star to get to it and you'll
get the task of getting rid of all the garbage. You only have a few seconds to
do it, so just make sure to throw the boms in a way that you can blow up
several pieces of junk at the same time. If you can blow up three or more with
the same bomb by aiming for the yellow spots on the ground, you're sure to make
it. You'll be rewarded with a Power Star.
Topmaniac and the Topman Tribe
Ignore the moles and use the Pull Stars on the last platform to reach another
one. Get in the Sling Star above the robot enemy to get to yet another platform
that will bring you to a Launch Star. In th next area, jump on the moving
pillar to find a Life Mushroom. Then to free the Luma held prisoner in the
center, spin next to the spinning top to send it spinning into the cage. Once
the Luma is free, use the Launch Star to get to the next part. Break the wooden
crates here to reveal a pipe. Go down that pipe to end up in a room with a big
arrow. Stand next to it and spin to reverse it. The gravity will also reverse.
Make your way to the right to find another arrow at the end of the path. Spin
it to reverse gravity and find yourself on the ceiling. Make your way to the
left, then go up and right. Go down the pipe to end up in a new room. Simply
jump on the purple enemy in the center to bounce up to a Sling Star and use it
to reach the next room. Spin next to the spinning tops here towards the
electric field to deactivate it. Do it twice to clear the way, then use the
Launch Star to reach yet another area. Get to the top of the area and climb up
the structure (If you need an 1 Up or Life Mushroom, talk to the blue Luma
behind who will sell you one for 30 Star Bits). To defeat the boss here, which
is yet another spinning top, simply jump on it once to have it retract the
spikes, then spin next to it to send it towards the electric field surrounding
the area. Spin as many times as needed to throw it off. It'll get electrocuted
if done right. Do this three times to earn the Power Star.
Luigi Under the Saucer
To find Luigi, re-enter the first level of Battlerock Galaxy and head over all
the way to the Power Star like you would do in a normal run. According to the
picture, Luigi should be there, but he's nowhere to be found. Have you tried
looking under the platform? He's right there. Get under the second platform on
the right and stand on the edge so a missile spots you. Have it follow you to
Luigi and break the cage. Luigi will hand over the Green Power Star.
Rolling Green Galaxy
Rolling in the Clouds
For this level, which will probably remind you of Monkey Ball, hold the Wiimote
upwards and tilt it up, left or right to move around. You can also jump with A.
Not much I can do to help here either, just go slowly around the paths and make
it to the end without falling. The only trick is to be careful when you take a
narrow path. When you reach the end, go into the hole to make the Power Star
appear and climb up the flag to collect it!
Hurry-Scurry Galaxy
Shrinking Satellite
This is more easy than it seems. Walk over to the platform with the Toad,
stepping on the green tiles on the way. They'll shrink and disappear, so be
quick. Stand on the tile on the left where the ? Block is and wait until the
tile disappears. You'll fall down into a Launch Star right below and be brought
to a large round block made entirely of tiles. Follow the path of colored
musical notes and collect them all to make the Power Star appear. Just make
sure you follow the path in a consistent order in a way that you can still get
all the remaining musical notes. When that's done, find a clear path of tiles
to head back to the top and jump down to grab the Power Star as you fall.
Bowser's Star Reactor
The Fiery Stronghold
Before getting to the actual boss, follow the path, going through simplistic
obstacles, until Bowser shows up. Now hurry as the floor will fall down. Make
sure to pick up the Life Mushroom on the way and head up to the top of the
tower. The fight with Bowser can be hard to figure out, but isn't very
difficult. Bowser will leap across the area and create shockwaves upon landing.
Avoir these with a simple jump, and go stand on a blue pad after Bowser jumps
up. When he's about to land, get out of the way and Bowser should land onto the
blue pad and burn his tail. He'll then start running around the area. Catch him
by waiting for him in the opposite direction or wait for him to stop. Spin
attack his burning tail and he'll fall on his back and start spinning around.
Catch him the same way you did again and spin attack him a second time. Repeat
this process two more times to defeat him and earn the Grand Star.
The Kitchen is now available.
Kitchen
Beach Bowl Galaxy
Sunken Treasure
To start off this level, jump down in the water and press Z to go underwater.
Press A to swim and use the stick to move. Picking up air bubbles will
replenish your oxygen supply. Your first task is to collect the five Star Chips
lying around the bottom of the water. The first two are fairly easy to find,
just look around the bottom near where the penguins are to find them in plain
view. The third one is hidden inside a wooden crate in the same spot. Just spin
to break the crates open. The fourth one is inside the clam on the right, just
wait for it to open and grab it. The last one is on the left at the back, in
front of a scary fish's den. Once you've got them all, use the Launch Star that
just appeared to be back on the ground. Jump and spin to nab the ? Coin above
and follow the musical notes to make an Extra Life appear. Ground pound the
blue switch ahead, then hurry to the pathway that just appeared and quickly
climb it before it disappears. Ground pound the next switch and quickly jump
between the two walls. Once at the top of the island, spin a couple of times to
break the crystal holding the Power Star.
Passing the Swim Test
This level (or mini-game) is ridiculously easy. Start by talking to the big
penguin to learn about the swim test. Now head underwater and find the penguins
racing around. The first one is holding the Gold Shell. To take it from him,
simply swim towards him from the opposite direction he's coming from and simply
grab it. That's all. Bring back the shell to the big penguin to receive the
Power Star.
The Secret Undersea Cavern
Head down in the water and pick up the green shell at the bottom. Crash into
the treasure chest nearby to get an Extra Life, then grab another shell and
crash into the cracked wall to open up the entrance to the secret cave. Nab
some coins around to refill your health and head inside the tunnel. Smash down
all the wooden crates inside to reveal an opening in the barrier. Use the
Launch Star behind to reach a stone structure in the sky. Get past the first
block when it's up in the air, then at the second one, watch it move around
before attempting anything. You'll notice there is an opening in one of its
sides. Make note of where this side always ends up on the ground and go place
yourself at this emplacement. Wait for the block to pass over you (you'll be
safe inside the hole), then continue your way to the next part. Get to the
other side using the moving platforms, then head down and stand on the second
tile. Wait for the block to pass over you and run over to the next. Repeat this
same process following the path until you get to the star. Spin to break the
crystal and collect the Power Star.
(secret star)
Wall Jumping up Waterfalls
Re-enter the third level to gain a second Star. Head down to the bottom of the
sea and pick up a shell. Bring it back to the surface and carry it to the
island. Climb up behind the waterfall and once on the other side, head down the
cliff to find a treasure chest. Spin while holding the shell to break it open.
Use the Launch Star inside to get to a new area. Here, spot the ? Coin in the
air and make note of it. Go near one of the duck enemies and have it follow you
back to where the Coin is. Stand on its shadow and let the duck lift you up to
the Coin. Pick up the ice flower that just appeared nearby to turn into Ice
Mario. You can now walk on water. Head over to the two parallel waterfalls and
wall jump between them to reach the platform above. Do the same with the other
waterfalls until you reach the very top (use a high jump and a spin to reach
the Sling Star). Be quick as your power will wear off after a while. Now for
the next part, get the ice flower to transform back, and get to the duck enemy
on the platform nearby. Have it follow you as you walk over the water and turn
it into ice, creating a path for the duck to follow you. Head over to the small
platform and let the duck launch you up to the Power Star above.
Ghostly Galaxy
Luigi and the Haunted Mansion
Use the Launch Star at the beginning of the level, then head onwards to the
haunted mansion. Flip the switch next to the door inside by spinning; this will
light up the room. Get the two Boos inside the room to follow you to the light,
and while facing from the back, have them step into the light to dispose of
them. This will fetch you a key that opens the door upstairs. In the next room,
walk on the walls and ceiling to collect all five Star Chips. Use the Launch
Star that will appear once you collect them all to reach a new area around the
mansion. Go right and grab the middle Pull Star. Release and wait until you
fall down and nab the key. As soon as you get the key, quickly grab back the
Pull Star to pull yourself back up so you don't fall into the spikes below.
Grab the right Pull Star and go through the newly opened door. Inside, go to
the end of the hallway and get the ? Coin to transform into a Boo. Press A
repetitively to fly up to the ceiling and grab the other ? Coin to make an
Extra Life come out of the painting below. Shake the Wiimote to turn
transparent and go through the bars on the left. In the next room, fly up with
A, then turn transparent and go through the bars where the light is. Get caught
in the light on the other side to transform back, then use the spring to jump
over the wall and speak with Luigi to receive the Power Star.
A Very Spooky Sprint
Head over to the mansion using the Launch Star and Pull Stars, then use the
other Launch Star at the end to reach a planet with a Boo waiting for you. Talk
to him to start the race. This race is a tad unusual, as you'll be using Pull
Stars to move forward. As soon as the Pull Stars light up, aim for the farthest
one. Do it a few times over so you can choose the best paths that save you
time. Try not to get caught in the obstacles, you can do this by letting go of
the A button after you pull towards a star, wait a bit before pulling towards
the next star, that way you can choose a better direction and maybe even pull a
star that is further ahead. There's also a neat shortcut halfway through the
race, look on the right to spot a Sling Star and pull yourself to it. Use it to
save a chunk of the course. At the end, don't forget to shake the Wiimote to
break out of the Pull Star and fall back down on the platnet. Race to the top
to cross the finish line. The Boo will award you a Power Star for your
performance.
(secret star)
Matter Splatter Mansion
Re-enter the second level to find a hidden star. Take the Launch Star at the
very beginning to get to the area right before the mansion. The Pull Stars take
you to the race, but don't use them. Stay on the platform with all the bats and
pumpkin Goombas. Head over to the right side to spot a shining rock. Spin to
smash it and reveal a Launch Star. Use it to reach a new area. Here, the floor
will move as soon as you step on it. Make you to move at the same time so you
can keep up with it. Once you get to the locked door, stay on the floor a bit
longer as it will move up, then down so you can pick up the key. Go through the
door, then follow the floor just like previously. The path will be a bit more
complicated, and you ought to keep an eye out for Boos, but otherwise it's
nothing hard. Once you reach the room with two locked doors, pick up the key,
then the ? Coin inside the door. Follow the Star Bits path to the left as the
wall will move. Follow it up and open the doors when you can. Head over to the
right for some wall jumping, then once at the top, open the door to find the
Power Star in one of them.
Beware of Bouldergeist
Head over to the haunted mansion as always, then once inside, get close to the
portrait with a black Boo on the back wall to get the Bomb Boo to follow you.
Have it follow you to the chimney on the left and spin to make it blow up the
statue blocking the entrance. Use the Launch Star behind to reach a new area.
Get to the first sticky plant above the moving platform. To reach it, do a jump
followed by a spin. Aim to land on the platform on the right, then use the
other sticky plants to reach the Sling Star in the middle, which'll send you
right into a Launch Star. In the next area, use the sticky plants once again to
move in-between each and collect all five Star Chips. Pull Stars will then
appear on the left. Use the sticky plants to get close to them and pull
yourself to the Launch Star. You'll reach a balloon with an Extra Life. Bounce
towards the Launch Star, then spin to reach it. It'll send you to the last
area, where you'll face Bouldergeist. Buy whatever you need from the Luma, then
head over to the arena. This boss has two phases. In the first, he'll stand in
the middle and perform some easy to avoid atacks. Every once in a while, Bomb
Boos will appear around the area. Spin to grab them (two at a time is
possible), then get close to Bouldergeist with the Bomb Boos spinning around
you and get close enough so the Bomb Boos crash into the boss as they spin
around. After three hits, Bouldergeist's rockface will be gone and his uvula
will be revealed. Grab another Bomb Boo and get a hit to send him flying. It's
not over yet though. Bouldergeist will reappear with now a pair of hands. The
process is the same, get three hits on the boss, then one final hit on his
uvula. Learn his pattern of attacks, and always get the two Bomb Bombs together
before spinning. That way if you hit a hand by accident, you'll have one Boo
remaining to hit the boss. Also, if you get lucky, Bouldergeist will sometimes
drop a coin from the boulders. You'll be awarded the Power Star for defeating
him.
Bubble Breeze Galaxy
Through the Poison Swamp
Head over to the right to find a bubble. That's what you're going to use to
travel through the poison swamp. Get inside the bubble press A to go in the
direction you point with the Wiimote. The trick to avoid obtscales is to just
press A go forward bit by bit, changing the direction along the way. Don't just
hold down A or you'll run into all the obstacles. In the first part of the
level, go around and collect all five Star Chips. Once that's done, head back
to the center and use the Launch Star to get to the second area. Make your way
through the obstacles just as previously until you reach a patch of land with a
blue switch. Press Z to get off the bubble and press the switch. Get back
inside a bubble and go through the gate before it closes. Now simply follow the
path leading to the Power Star.
Buoy Base Galaxy
The Floating Fortress
Swim down underneath the tower and look for a glass ball hanging from it. Have
one of the missiles nearby follow you to it and have it ram into the ball to
break it. The tower will surface. Head back up and start climbing the tower.
Wall jump between the walls on the left, then do the same with the next walls,
watching out for the block sticking out. Head past the blocks and other
obstacles, then talk to the robot. Go left and spin the green valve to turn off
the water shooters. Then do a high jump next to the robot to reach the ledge
above (or use the spring enemy) and spin the blue bolt. Jump on the ledge above
and start collecting the blue Star Chips around the top of the tower. There is
one right there on the moving platforms, one on a platform a bit further up if
you climb, one on top of the grey enemy blocks, one on the platform with a
Goomba around the top, and the final one is at the very top of the tower, if
you jump on the spring enemy. Then use the Pull Stars above it to reach the big
ball above. Climb to the top and spin the yellow bolt shooting the red rays to
open it. Swim down and collect the Power Star.
(secret star)
The Secret of Buoy Base
To get this secret star, swim down to the bottom of the dome and find the green
pipe held inside a cage. Get a missile from nearby follow you to it and have it
ram into the cage and blow it open. Go down the pipe to find yourself at the
top of the tower. Run over to the left to escape the bullets. Make sure one
follows you as you get close to the center of the tower's top. Get it to the
middle and make it ram into the cage to free the Green Power Star.
Bowser Jr.'s Airship Armada
Sinking the Airships
The first part of the level consists in getting to Bowser Jr's airship, which
shouldn't prove too difficult. Head to the tip of teh ships, get in the cannon,
aim for the next ship, rinse, repeat. On one of the ships you'll need to flip a
switch to activate a moving platform that will take you to the last ship. Get
in the Sling Star to get aboard. Bowser Jr. will then show up. This boss isn't
very hard because you have a lot of health at your disposal. There are two
coins on the platform behind you, and on the deck at the right, a cage with an
Extra Life and two more coins (that you can break with the bullets). There's
also a coin on the mate if you shoot a Star Bit on the yellow dot. The fight
will remind you of a previous fight, so you know the drill. Jump on a Koopa,
pick up the shell, throw it at Bowser Jr.'s ship. Shoot it three times to enter
phase two. This time you'll have more bullets after you, as well as
cannonballs. And a Kamikoopa. Start by taking down the Kamikoopa with a shell,
then avoid the bullets and shoot a shell at the ship. Repeat two more times to
win and receive the Grand Star.
Bedroom
Gusty Garden Galaxy
Bunnies in the Wind
To move between the islands on this planet, you'll need to use the Floaty
Fluffs. Stand in the middle of a flower patch and spin to make the flowers
float up. Jump to grab into one of them and spin when into a wind gust to get a
little boost. When you reach the next island, press A to get off the flower.
You can only spin three times when holding on to a Floaty Fluff so be careful
to use the spins wisely, though it's not a problem in this first level. Move to
the second island, then either use the next Floaty Fluffs or the Sproutle Vine
underneath the planet. Either path will lead to the same destination. Move from
planetoid to planetoid (defeat Piranha Plants to get Sproutle Vines) until you
reach one with a purple Piranha Plant. Run around it and wait until it crushes
its head into the ground. Avoid it, then spin into it. When you see it's dizzy,

jump on the head to defeat it. Use the Launch Star to reach the last area. Talk
to the bunny here and get ready to run after it. Don't loose sight of him or it
might be hard to find him afterwards (he will wait for you at the fountain if
you loose him). Use Long Jumps (Z+A while running) to have a better chance of
catching him. You'll get the Power Star after catching the bunny.
The Dirty Tricks of Major Burrows
Just as in the first level, start by using the Floaty Fluffs to reach the
second island. From there, reaching the next will be a bit harder. Just make
sure you spin at right intervals and that the Floaty Fluff is caught in the
wind gust above. Once on the round planet, defeat the mole by doing a ground
pound (A+Z) next to it, or on the trail behind it, then spinning into it once
it's out of the ground. Take the Launch Star that appears right after to reach
the ?-shaped planet. Here, defeat the three moles around the planet just like
you did. Once that's done, use the new Launch Star be launched into a giant
apple. Stomp the stump on the apple with a ground pound to make a worm come
out. Follow it to the next apple and stomp the stump here too. Repeat the
process on the apple. One of the stumps will make the worm come out again. Get
to the tip of it and use the Launch Star. Stomp the first stump on the next
planetoid to make a Life Mushroom appear. Grab it, then get into the last
Launch Star. Time for another boss battle. To defeat Major Burrows, run around
and wait for him to jump out of the ground. Now do a ground pound to get him
completely out and then spin attack him. He will get mad and start chasing you
around. Do the same thing, avoid him until he gets out of the ground, then do a
ground pound and he'll walk around. Catch him up and spin. He'll get even more
mad. This time, you'll need to ground pound the ground two times before Major
Burrows gets dizzy and start walking out of the ground. It's easy to do if you
stay at a good distance when ground pouding. Spin attack him a last time to get
rid of him and collect your Power Star.
Gusty Garden's Gravity Scramble
Start as usual using the Floaty Fluff to fly over to the next isle. This time
you'll need to stay in the win gust a bit longer but as long as you only spin
when you get close enough to a ? Coin, you should be fine. Even if you feel as
if you won't reach the isle, the gravity might bring you to it if you're not
too far. Defeat the Piranha Plant here to make a Sproutle Vine appear, then do
the same with the next and spin on it to reach the top and jump into the Launch
Star. Spin to get to the next planet. Walk between the spiky plants and avoid
the boulders until you reach the other side. Use the Launch Star to get to the
next area. Here you'll need to find five Star Chips. The first one is right
underneath the first platform you start on. Then climb up the pole and jump +
spin to reach the next platform on the right. Get the second Star Chip here,
then climb down the pole under it and jump to the left to grab the third Star
Chip. Don't worry about gravity here, you'll fall back on the platform after
grabbing it. Get to the third platform and climb down the pole. Jump left to
collect the fourth Star Chip. Head back to the last platform (green one) and
walk on the side of it to find the last Star Chip spinning around. Use the
newly appeared Launch Star to get to the next part. Make sure you stay on the
yellow side of the blocks here, and hit the arrows to change the gravity. Move
through the obstacles and head down when you get to the dead-end. Use the
backwards somersault (Z+A) to jump on the higher blocks and avoid the bullets.
You'll get to the Power Star at the end of this path. Spin to break the crystal
and collect the star.
(secret star)
The Golden Chomp
To get the secret star, re-select the third level. At the very beginning, use
the Floaty Fluff and grab the first ? Coin. If you want the star, you
absolutely have to get all ? Coins. Grab the two others, using the spin to
reach them (you don't need to touch the coins to collect them, as long as the
Floaty Fluff touches it you'll get it). Once you reach the ground, get the
remaning ? Coins and a Rainbow Star will appear. Head up the Sproutle Vine and
grab it to turn invincible. Use the Launch Star to get to the planet with the
spiky plants and moving boulders. Ram into all these obstacles. On the other
side, you'll find a golden chomp. Crush it down with your invincibility to earn
the Power Star.
Freezeflame Galaxy
The Frozen Peak of Baron Brrr
Start by talking to the penguin on the ice platform at the beginning. He'll
dare you to catch up to him. The only way to do so is by skating. How? Simply
spin on ice to start skating. Chase the penguin and catch him. Now get into the
Launch Star to get to the next part. The water is freezing, so don't stay too
long in it. Follow the platforms on the right and avoid the enemies (if you get
frozen, shake the wiimote to break out) to find a ? Coin. Grab it and an Ice
Flower will appear. Go get it to transform into Ice Mario. You can now walk
over the water, so that's going to be useful here. There are two paths you can
take, but the easiest and shortest is reached by wall jumping between the two
walls where the Star Bits are on the left. Get into the Sling Star to reach the
upper part already. Follow the platforms on the left and get another Ice
Flower. Climb up and jump on the blocks. When you reach the water sprouts above
the Sling Star, simply jump on them to freeze them and create platforms.
They'll get you to the boss, Baron Brrr. To defeat him, jump on the platforms
on the left to get into an alcove with an Ice Flower right below the boss. Now
that you're Ice Mario, walk on the water to the front. Wall jump up to the
Baron and wait for him to raise himself and fall back down. Jump as soon as he
lands to avoid the shockwave. Now spin attack him once to get him smaller, and
spin attack him a second time when he's small. Repeat this very same process
two more times to defeat him and receive the Power Star.
(secret star)
Conquering the Summit
To get the secret star, re-enter the first level and get to the snow mountain.
Take the Ice Flower to walk on the water and climb up the path ahead, using the
two first water sprouts to climb higher. You'll see two more water sprouts on
the right with an Extra Life floating above. What you must do here is reach the
cliff to the right. To do so, you'll need to use the Triple Jump (jump three
times while running and you'll see the third jump is way higher). It's kind of
hard to perform here, because you have to time your jumps perfectly so the
first jump lands you on the first sprout, the second jump on the second sprout,
and so the third jump will send you to the ledge above. Practice a couple of
times until you get it right. Don't forget you need to run right before the
first jump, and keep holding the control stick right while you perform the
three jumps. Once you succeed, use the Sling Star to get higher on the
mountain. Grab the Fire Flower on the left and shoot fireballs on the snowmen
to clear the way. Follow the path up and do the same with the other snowman.
Use the Launch Star to reach the next part. Grab another Fire Flower and head
down. Shoot the snowman across the gap, but watch out for the boulders behind.
Get to the top of the cliff using the block and take the Fire Flower on the
left, where the ice bats are. Keep climbing up and smash down the snowman at
the top to reveal a Launch Star. Walk along the ledge until you reach three
blocks one atop the other. Wait for them to retract into the mountainside and
wall jump between the two walls where the blocks are to reach the summit and
collect the Power Star, finally.
Freezeflame's Blistering Core
Start by collecting the five Star Chips around the ice platform, which are
frozen away in crystals. Don't forget to look underneath the platform for the
last two. A Launch Star will appear. Use it to get to a planet that you'll most
likely find a lot more hot. Head onward to a closed gate, taking the path to
the right instead. Here again you can't go on, so climb up the pole on the
left, after grabbing the Life Mushroom. Follow the path up to the closed gate
and grab the ? Coin to make a Fire Flower appear. Go get it to turn into Fire
Mario and head down to the gate. Shoot a ball of fire (spin to do so) on the
torch in front of it to light it up and open the gate. Hurry to the left and
light the two torches to make a stairway appear. Climb it and jump up to find
yourself upside down. Head forward and follow the path to find another Fire
Flower on the left. Turn into Fire Mario and shoot fireballs on the two torches
on each side of the path's end. The wall inbetween will raise. Wall jump to the
top and cross the platforms over the lava. Grab the Fire Flower on the right at
the end of the path and head over to the left. Jump on the platform and let it
carry you to the right. While on it, aim for the torches ahead and light them
up to open the door. Behind it lies the Power Star.
Hot and Cold Collide
Cross the ice platform at the beginning, avoiding the firey boulders. Break the
crystals at the end of the path with a spin and head over to the other side of
the platform. Get to the end of the platform and break the crystals to reveal a
Launch Star. Use it to reach a cave filled with water. Wait for the water to
lower and look ahead, on the left, for a green valve. Get on it while the water
is low and spin to activate it and open the door. Go through the new passage to
a lava-filled cave. Follow the path to the left and wait for the lava to lower
to spot another valve on the left. Spin on it to open the door and grab the
Fire Flower. Hurry back to the water room and light the two torches at the back
of the room to make a Launch Star appear. Use it to reach the last area. Get
the Ice Flower to turn into Ice Mario and run along the lava platforms. Your
steps will create ice so you can walk over it without hurting yourself. Follow
the path all the way to the end and nab the Power Star.
Dusty Dune Galaxy
Soaring on the Desert Winds
As the title implies, you'll need to use the desert winds. Get caught in one of
the mini tornadoes and spin to be sent flying away. Move over to the next
platform and repeat the process with the next tornado to reach the pipe on the
right. Whatever you do, don't fall in the sand surrounding the area or it's
instant death. In the tunnel ahead, break the brick blocks below you with a
Ground Pound, then head over to the right and watch out for the sand pits.
Continue to the right and grab the ? Coin to get a Fire Flower. As you move on
right, a large boulder will chase you down the pit. Hurry to the bottom and
jump in the Sling Star to reach the pipe above and get out of there. Use the
Launch Star to get to a new area. Start climbing up using the tornadoes and
keep climbing to the top of the sandfall. You can use the Jump + Spin to move
in quick sand and climb up the blocks. Use the next tornado to grab the ? Coin
and make two Sling Stars appear. Use one to reach the ledge above, on the left.
Wall jump to the top, then fall down between next walls, but keep an eye for a
platform on the right. As you fall down, hug the left wall so you slide down
against it. When you see the platform, jump to bounce back to it. If you miss
it, just wall jump back up to it. Now you'll need to time your wall jumps right
for the next part. Make sure you bounce against the moving block or just use it
to go up. When you reach the top, quickly cross the blocks on the left and go
up to the Power Star. Break the crystal holding it.
Blasting through the Sand
Head onwards to the small arena ahead, and grab the coin in the middle. You'll
get assaulted by a few spiky enemies. Spin or jump on them of them to get rid
of them all, making a bigger one come out of the sand. To get rid of this one,
stand still next to it and wait for it to start wobbling as if it was about to
fall. When you see him do that, do a backwards somersault and you should be in
the air while it falls down. Do a ground pound as soon as you see it down to
knock its head off. A Launch Star will appear. In the next area, avoid the
boulders moving around the platform and jump on to get into the Sling Star. Use
it to reach another Sling Star leading to some moving quick sand. Head upwards
and get into the Sling Star. Here, you'll need to collect five blue Star Chips.
The first one is around the platform you start on. Two are around the moving
sand stream, if you follow each of the two arrows. A fourth one is inside a
crystal on the way, and the last one is inside a chest. You can pick up the
green shell at the start to open it. You'll miss a few on your first try, so
just do it over until you get them all. The stream goes in loop. Once you're
done, use the newly appeared Pull Starts next to the chest to get to the next
area. Either follow the path with the green or orange arrow, both lead to the
same place and are similar (though the green one is slightly easier). Jump on
the blocks and get inside the pipe or Launch Star. Get into the opening in the
ground to go to the other side and follow the path. You'll see the star on your
way, but you can't get it yet. Get to the end of the path and ground pound the
big switch to start a clock. Hurry back to where the Power Star is and climb up
to grab it before the timer runs out.
(secret star)
Treasure of the Pyramid
To get this secret Power Star, re-enter the second level. Defeat the big Pokey
at the beginning, then get inside the Launch Star to reach the next area, which
has huge boulders turning around a Sling Star. On the platform you land on, you
can walk around to get underneath. You'll find a hungry Luma here, who needs 20
Star Bits. If you don't have them, look under the platform with the Sling Star
to find a Rainbow Star. While invincible, crush all the boulders to get as many
Star Bits as you need. Feed the hungry Luma and use the new Launch Star to
reach a pyramid. To get the Power Star, you'll need to free five silver stars
from around the pyramid. They can all be found in crystals on the walls. As you
climb up the walls, sand will start filling the pyramid so look around quickly.
If you get crushed, it's instant death. It's very difficult to explain where
the stars are, so just make sure you look everywhere, and try all possible
paths. Sometimes there are two split paths in the same path. One of the paths
also requires you to reach it with a backwards somersault from the ceiling.
Once you free all five stars, you will receive the Green Power Star.
Sunbaked Sand Castle
Press the switch at the beginning to start raising the platform. Watch out for
the shadows on the ground so you don't get crushed by the blocks above. Use the
Launch Star the top to get to the next part. Grab the first Star Chip in the
center, then press the blue switch. A tower will raise. The second Star Chip is
in an alcove at the base of the tower, the third one between the two walls
where you can wall jump to the top, and the fourth one on a small ledge around
the top of the tower. For the last one, grab the shell from the Koopa at the
top and jump down along the left side. Stay close to the wall to fall atop teh
chest on a ledge. Break it open with the shell to get the Star Chip. If you
miss it, simply press the red switch to lower the tower and do it until you get
it. Use the new Launch Star at the top of the tower to get to a small planetoid
with a huge spiky flower. Kick a coconut into the flower (by spinning next to
the coconut) to smash it. The sand around the planet goes up and down, so you
might have to wait for it to be down. After getting rid of the flower, do a
high jump to get into the Launch Star above. The next planet has a big Pokey
waiting for you. Don't try anything on it, instead head downwards to the bottom
of the planet and use the Sling Star to get on the planet below. Get a aim on
the planet with the Pokey and kick a few coconuts towards it. They will land on
it if you aim correctly. Go back to the planet above and kick a coconut into
the Pokey to defeat it. Jump on its head to finish it off and get into the
Launch Star. You'll reach the sand castle, finally. Jump to the bottom and
break the crate with a spin. The pipe will lead you inside. Now you'll need to
be quick. Break the crates on your way and hurry to the top as the sand starts
filling the tower. Grab the Power Star once you get to the top.
(secret star)
Bullet Bill on your Back
To get the second secret star, re-enter the third level. Go to the part after
the tower with the Star Chips. It's a small planet with that big spiky flower.
Look for a line of coins beneath the planet. Wait for the sand around it to
lower completely and you'll spot a stump. Grond pound it to make a line of
musical notes appear. Follow it and collect them all before the sand raises. A
new Launch Star will appear. Use it to reach the last area. Now this part is
kind of frustrating and a little hard. Have a bullet spot you to start off,
then quickly press the blu switch before the bullet gets to you. Start running
around the area as the part in the middle raises and make sure the bullet is
following you the whole time. There are four cages around the area that will
come out of the sand. Spot the one with the Power Star and have the bullet
smash it down to collect your Power Star. If you miss it, start back with the
other switch.
Honeyclimb Galaxy
Scaling the Sticky Wall
I don't think I need to tell you what to do here. Grab the Bee Mushroom, then
start climbing as Bee Mario. Hold down A to fly, release A to fall down on the
wall. Land on the honeycombs and follow them to find the way. Avoid all
obstacles and reach the Power Star at the very top of the last wall.
Bowser's Dark Matter Plant
Darkness on the Horizon
Before the battle, head on for some basic platforming. You'll get to a gravity
room. Jump on the platforms and get on the correct side of the blocks you can
reach other blocks and get to the end. Climb up the pole, then jump on the
platforms while avoiding the cosmic holes. Cross this part to get to another,
harder gravity room. All I can say is, make sure you are on the correct side of
the blocks depending on the gravity direction. You must be on the opposite side
of the arrows. Once you get past that part, use the moving platform to get to
some stairways. Free the Lumas inside the crystals and climb up until you reach
Bowser. It's the exact same battle, same strategy, as the last one with him,
but a bit harder. After stomping the ground a few times, Bowser will either
spin or shoot firablls (or all at the same time). Avoid the attacks and wait
for him to jump very high. Now is the time to go stand on a blue circle. Get
out of the way as he lands and hurts himself. Quickly run after him and spin
attack his tail. He'll fall on its back. Catch him and spin attack anotehr
time. Repeat the same process two more times to defeat him. On the last round,
you'll need to spin attack him twice while he's on his back. Collect the Grand
Star after the fight.
Engine Room
Gold Leaf Galaxy
Star Bunnies on the Hunt
This place feels familiar, huh? The Star Bunnies are looking for five Star
Chips scattered around the planet. Start by heading straight ahead where the
second bunny is and wall jump between the tree trunk and the cliff, or wall
jump between the two walls behind the cliff, to find yourself on top of it. In
the flower patch in the middle of the three piranha plants lies the first Star
Chip. Look at the right edge of the cliff to spot a Sling Star hovering above
the path below. Jump to it (or use the swing below) to reach another cliff.
Stand in the middle of the fountain to be lifted up and grab the second Star
Chip. Now jump down and ground pound the three stumps to make a Sling Star
appear. Use it to collect the third Star Chip above. Next, look at the right
edge of this area to spot a waterfall below. Long jump to it and break the
crate here to reveal the fourth Star Chip. Head back up to the beginning of the
level and swing around the flower to get up the slope above. Get the Bee
Mushroom and climb up using the flower ahead. Go to the edge of the ledge on
your left and jump on the spring to collect the last Star Chip. Pull Stars will
appear at the entrance. Use them to reach a Launch Star leading to another
planet. Press the red switch nearby to make catching the bunny easier. Run
after it and try to get him in a corner. Catch it to receive the Power Star.
Cataquack to the Skies
Follow the path leading to a clearing with a Cataquack. Have it launch you up
to the Sling Star above by standing still below it. Grab the Bee Mushroom in
the next area and walk up to the Cataquacks. Have one lift you up, then fly up
to the cliff on the left. Repeat the same thing with the next to reach an even
higher cliff and head down following the ledge on your left. Get in the Launch
Star here to reach new planets. Go to the top and have the Cataquack follow
you. Stand on the pad and let it launch you to the next planet. Find the
Cataquack here and break the crates to free it. Now walk through the maze and
find the correct path to lead the Cataquack to the launch pad. Once you get to
it with the Cataquack, have it send you to the next area. Avoid the three
Cataquacks here and walk to the tip of the structure. Have one Cataquack launch
you up and use the Launch Star to get to the last planet. Head up to the little
hill with a mole digging around and a Bee Mushroom way above. Defeat the mole
here and the mole on the left. Have the Cataquack there follow you to the
little hill and let it launch you up to grab the Bee Mushroom. Now head over to
that little tower on the left and have the Cataquack launch you up again. Fly
up to the tower's top, then jump from flower to flower until you reach the last
one, where the Power Star is.
(secret star)
The Bell on the Big Tree
To get the hidden star, re-enter the second level. Use the first Cataquack to
get up to the upper right area of the beginning planet. Look behind the huge
tree on your right to find a bubble shooter. Get inside a bubble and hold A in
the direction you want to go to move the bubble. Hit the bell above by spinning
next to it with the bubble. Musical notes will appear around the tree. Follow
the trail and collect them all to earn the Power Star.
When It Rains, It Pours
Head over to the cliff straight ahead and climb it to the top using wall jumps
behind. Grab the Bee Mushroom above the cloud, then head down to the flower and
swing on it to get on top of the cloud ahead. Fly up to the other side and use
the swing to reach the next clouds and climb up to the wooden structure. Cross
while avoiding the beetles and also watch out for rain. You can walk on clouds,
but you'll loose your bee powers if you walk under them. Use the spring at the
end and fly up to the observatory. Start climbing around, avoiding the clouds
by hiding in alcoves. Higher up, jump on the clouds to cross the gaps. Use the
srping to get to the highest ledge and ground pound the rock to make a sproutle
vine appear. Use it to reach the top of the observatory and an easy boss. Start
by pounding the red switch behind you to raise platforms at the back. Hurry to
these platforms and use them to reach the boss. Jump on top of its head and do
a ground pound. You even have enough time for a second one right after. Go back
to the switch and pound it again to raise the platforms. Hurry to the boss and
ground pound him a last time to defeat him. You can do this fight either as Bee
Mario or normal Mario, so don't worry about loosing the Bee power. The fight is
easier as Bee Mario, but as normal Mario, you can use Long Jumps to cross the
spikes, and a Jump + Spin to reach the boss from the platforms. Collect the
Power Star at the end of the battle.
Sea Slide Galaxy
Going after Guppy
Talk to Guppy the hooligan at the beginning of the level to start the
challenge. What you'll need to do is swim through eight rings set around the
track. Simply follow Guppy and grab a shell after the first ring. Keep
following him and go through all the rings he leaves behind. Be quick or
they'll disappear after a while. This challenge is extremely easy and I don't
see how someone could have trouble with it. Collect the Power Star after
clearing Guppy's challenge.
Faster Than a Speeding Penguin
Another easy race. Talk to the penguin elder (the pink one) and accept to
participate in the race. Don't worry if the penguins outpass you at first,
you'll be able to catch up to them. Swim over to the red shell ahead and race
to the exit. Not much to say, except take the quickest paths and use the rings
at the end to get a good boost. There is no reason to loose this race. You'll
receive the Power Star for first position.
The Silver Stars of Sea Slide
You'll need to find five Silver Stars scattered through the level to get this
Power Star. The first one is above the arc over the water at the beginning.
Star by grabbing the Bee Mushroom on the isle nearby, then fly up and land on
the cloud floating above. It might take a couple of tries. From the cloud, fly
over to the arc and grab the first silver star. Now head to the island ahead
(where the race took place) and jump in the cannon on the left. Aim for the
mushroom starship and then make use of the Pull Stars to grab the second silver
star. Use the Sling Star to return to the ground. Now onwards to the
lighthouse. Get the Bee Mushroom, then cross the little bridge on the right and
stop at the palm tree on the left. Jump on the highest block and fly up to the
top of the palm tree. The third silver star is hovering above. Fly up to it to
collect it. Now use the Sling Star to return to the start of the level. Fly
over to the small stone pillar in the water, then fly over to the large tree
branch. Fly from branch to branch until you get to the one with the coins. Fly
up to the top of the tree and collect the fourth silver star at the summit. Now
drop down to the stone platform below, next to the tree. Spin on the green
valve to make a water stream come out. Get in the stream to reach the island in
the middle. Walk to the top and collect the last silver star. Now return to the
entrance using the Sling Stars and collect your Power Star.
(secret star)
Hurry, He's Hungry
To get the hidden star, re-enter the third level. Go to the cannon and talk to
the hungry Luma next to it. He needs 40 Star Bits. Go around the area and
collect as much as you can. Return to the Luma and feed it. Grab the Bee
Mushroom nearby first, then use the cannon to reach the new planet. This is the
same thing you did in a previous galaxy. Just go around the planet and step on
the tiles to collect all musical notes. You can only step on them once so step
on them in a order that lets you reach all tiles. The trick is to clear one
area in a circular motion before moving on too far. Also, the bee mushroom is
very useful here. If you mess up, you can fly over a good distance if there's a
big gap between tiles. Once you're done, fly or drop down to the middle to
collect the Power Star.
Toy Time Galaxy
Heavy Metal Mecha-Bowser
Get on the train at the beginning and let it carry you to the other side. Use
the Launch Star to reach the next area. Head down the pink wall and go right.
Follow the pink path on the wall here too to reach a yellow bolt. Spin while
standing on it to open up the path ahead. Now be careful. Don't jump into the
Launch on the left. You need to backtrack into the path and go back to the
beginning of the pink path. Go left and then north to the yellow robot on the
edge of the platform. Spin the yellow bolt next to him to reveal a hole. Jump
down and spin the blue bolt below to raise a bridge. Cross and go up the wall,
into the Launch Star. Move out and grab the ? Coin to get a Spring Mushroom and
transform into Spring Mario. You can now bounce higher by pressing A as you
land. Bounce up to the area above and cross the north walking way. The right
one leads to some Star Bits. Watch out for the enemy shooting light rays, you
can't get rid of him so you'll just avoid to avoid it. Climb up all the
platforms on the right to reach the Launch Star at the top. In the next area,
bounce up to the bottle in the middle and ground pound it to get inside. Use
the Launch Star to reach Mecha Bowser. Wall jump to get on the left leg and
spin the blue bolt. Go through the pipe and spin the bolt on the right leg. Get
inside the Sling Star. Here, spin the four yellow bolts, then head down the
green pipe. Get on the arm and climb up. Spin the bolt and use the Launch Star.
Grab the Spring Mushroom on the left, then head up to the head and jump up to
the very top. Ground pound the stone column to finish off. You can now collect
the Power Star.
Mario Meets Mario
Get on the train at the beginning, then use the Launch Star on the left. In the
following area, you'll need to collect all five Star Chips. The first one is on
the robot enemy in the middle (where you start). Avoid the rays and get the
Star Chip. The second one is above a spring at the top. Perform a Ground Pound
on the spring to jump even higher and grab the Star Chip. The third one is
inside a crystal not far from there. The fourth one is atop the large screw.
After getting this one, spin the blue bolt here to bring the screw down. You
can now collect the last Star Chip on the other side. Now use the new Launch
Star to get to the last area. You must collect the five Silver Stars around.
Simply remember that you can only step on the tiles once so watch your steps.
Keep some tiles in case you need to backtrack, especially near the beginning.
You can jump over tiles to keep some safe. After you gather all five silver
stars, return to the starting point to collect the Power Star.
(secret star)
The Flipswitch Chain
To get this hidden star, re-enter the second level. At the part where you
collect the five Star Chips at the beginning, you've probably noticed a hungry
Luma on top of a pillar. Collect 50 Star Bits around the area and feed him. Use
the new Launch Star to get to a hidden area. Here you'll need to go around the
structure and flip all the blue switches. You can walk all around the
platforms, so don't worry about falling. Look everywhere around the first
structure, then jump down where the robot is to get to the blue structure. Go
down and flip all the switches, then head back up and go to the other side.
Flip the last switches, then go collect your Power Star.
Bouncing Down Cake Lane
Get on the train at the beginning as usual and use the Launch Star on the
right. Pick up the Spring Mushroom, then high jump to the walls above and wall
jump up to the top (you don't need to do anything, Spring Mario will
automatically wall jump). Cross the moving walkway on the right, jumping over
the chocolate bars. When you get to the end, jump down to the plate below.
Climb on the cake above and go around it to the other side. High jump to the
Launch Star above to reach a giant ice cream cone. Head over to the top and
jump from pole to pole. Watch your shadow on the lolipops so you jump at the
right time and land on one. Leap to avoid the shockwaves and get on the ice
platform on the right. I wouldn't recommand spinning here. If Mario starts
skating, jump to stop it. Cross the ice platforms, watching out for the
enemies, until you reach another ice platform. Use the lolipops to cross over
to the next large ice platform. Climb up the orange pole, or go to the back of
the ice structure and wall jump to get a Life Mushroom. Hop in the cannon and
aim for the Launch Star. Climb up to the cake using the spoons, then spin next
to all the candles on the cake to put off the fires. Once all candles are out,
use the new Launch Star to reach a familiar boss. First, go get the Spring
Mushroom on the other side of the platform. High jump to the mole's cockpit and
ground pound it. It may take a few tries, the jumping doesn't feel accurate.
Avoid any attacks and repeat the same thing. Also watch out not to be anywhere
close to the boss while the cockpit is spinning. Three hits will bring him
down. Pick up your Power Star after the fight.
Bonefin Galaxy
Kingfin's Fearsome Waters
This level is actually an underwater boss that I'm sure you'll love (take it as
you will). To defeat Bonefin, you'll need to shoot five shells at him. Not an
easy task however. Start by finding a shell and swim towards Bonefin. When you
get a good aim at his head, spin to throw the shell. After the first hit,
missiles will start chasing you around. You can avoid them most of the time by
changing directions quickly as they come by. There's a Life Mushroom somewhere
around the area that you should get your hand on. Also don't forget to keep an
eye on your air meter and grab bubbles along the way. After three hits, Bonefin
will get angry and more missiles will assault you. Two more hits after this and
he's a goner. It's a difficult fight, but satisfying. Don't forget to collect
your Power Star after the battle.
Bowser Jr.'s Lava Reactor
King Kaliente's Spicy Return
I bet you were starting to miss him. Well he's back. Before getting to him
however, some search missile fun. Head along the path (or what you find of it),
stomping the Goombas along the way. Eventually you'll come to a cannon. Have
one bullet follow you and backtrack all the way to the starting point. Let the
bullet crash into the cage holding the Launch Star and use it to get to some
hot lava. Grab the Life Mushroom on the left, then wait for the enemies to
throw out green coconuts and spin to shoot them back at them. A Launch Star
will then appear, use it to reach King Kaliente. The strategy has stayed the
same, shoot back the green coconuts. This time however, you can't stand on the
platforms for very long. After you shoot a coconut, Kaliente will send it back,
so you must hit it twice in a row to really hurt the boss. After two hits, the
count will go up to three times in a row. Really not that difficult if you keep
that in mind. Collect the Grand Star once you defeat him.
You can now access the Gate and the Garden.
Garden
Deep Dark Galaxy
The Underground Ghost Ship
You'll start in a small creek with no way to go. Try jumping in the cannon in
the middle of the beach and aim for the planet on the left, nabbing the Rainbow
Star on the way (the right one has tons of coins, if you want, also). Dispatch
all the enemies, then grab the Fire Flower and use the Sling Star to land back
on the beach. Hurry to the closed gate and light up the two torches on each
side of the door to open it. Inside the cave, dive down into the water and swim
down until you spot an arrow made of Star Bits, pointing the way into a tunnel.
Head down there and flip the first switch to open the gate. Swim up into the
tunnel and flip the second switch to open another gate. Head up to the surface
and make your way to the ghost ship, where Kammy Koopa is waiting for a come
back. To defeat her this time, same strategy. She'll fire red and green magic.
Avoid the red one at all cost, but keep an eye on the green one. It will turn
into a shell when it reaches the ground. Jump on the shell to stop it and pick
it up. Spin to throw it at Kammy Koopa when you get a good aim at her. Repeat
this another time and she'll go up the mate. Climb up the pole to reach up to
her and repeat the same process two more times to defeat her. It'll be harder
because of the small area and two mini Kammy Koopas, but if you take down the
two minions first, Kammy Koopa won't be that difficult anymore. Simply jump on
top of their heads to dispose of them. After the fight, pick up your Power
Star.
Bubble Blastoff
To defeat the mole on the beach, either somersault to the cockpit and ground
pound it three times, or spin and shoot three coconuts (laying around the
beach) at the cockpit. Once it's gone, hop into the cannon and aim for the
planet with the Fire Flower. Grab it and return to the beach. Light up the
three torches at the cave's entrance and inside to make an Ice Flower appear.
Take it and head for the water sprouts on the other side of the water. Climb
them up to reach the cliff above and use the poles on the left to cross. Head
over to the right and get the ? Coin to make Sling Stars appear. Use them to
reach the cliff above. Get caught in a bubble to be launched to the moving
block to the left, then do the same with the next bubble shooter. Climb up the
poles to get to the top and have the shooter bubble-shoot you to a far away
planet. Ground pound the three stumps around the planet to make the water
shooter functional again and get inside a bubble to reach the last planet. What
you must do here is ground pound the three balls inside the planet so they hit
the watermelon in the center. You can only stomp them when they get close to
the sides around you and you also need to avoid the red shockwaves. The best
trick I can give you is to stand on top of the thing sending the shockwaves so
you avoid them without jumping around. While standing there, watch as the balls
get close. If one approaches, jump down and ground pound it. When all three
have hit the watermelon, it will grow bigger and the glass will explode. Watch
out for the shockwaves still and go pick the Power Star.
Guppy and the Underground Lake
This is an easy one. Head into the cave and swim down to the very bottom of the
underwater cavern. Talk to Guppy to undergo another ring challenge. You'll need
to go through eight rings set around the area, just as previously. I found it
to be even easier this time around. Don't forget to pick the green shell to
swim faster. You'll receive a Power Star for succeeding in the challenge.
(secret star)
Boo in a Box
To find this hidden star, re-enter the third level. Swim down to the underwater
cavern where Guppy is. Pick up the green shell and swim towards the sunken ship
wreck next to Guppy. You should see it's surrounded by mines. Spin to let go of
the shell to throw it in direction of the wreck. The mines will explode and
reveal a Launch Star. Get into it to reach a strange cube. Use the poles here
to reach out to the green arrow above them and spin to reverse the arrow. The
gravity will switch to the side. Jump on the spring to reach the arrow once
again and spin it again to get on the ceiling. Now jump on the srping in the
corner, get caught in a bubble and just when you get to the arrow, spin it to
change the gravity. Break the crystal in the middle to reveal a light ray. Have
the Boo step into it to transform it into the Power Star. To get to it, jump on
the spring and hit the arrow again with the bubble just like before. Collect
your Power Star.
Dreadnought Galaxy
Infiltrating the Dreadnought
Start by heading up the space structure, avoiding the light beams. Jump on top
of the spring enemy at the very top to reach the Launch Star above. It will
send you on the side of the Dreanought. Defeat the three enemies here by
spinning, then jumping on them, to open the barrier blocking the pipe. Head
down the pipe to get inside the Dreadnought, in an room that will put your
platforming skills to test. Proceed to the right and stand on the platform in
the middle. Wait for the two moving walls to be on each side of the platform
and use them to wall jump to the top. Grab the Life Mushroom on the left, then
go right. Wait for the platforms to lower and hurry to the right before they go
up. Hit the arrow to change the gravity and head up using the moving platforms.
You'll need to quick in order to climb up while avoiding to get crushed. Using
the backwards somersault makes things easier, however. Once at the top, head
right and hit the arrow. Ground pound the spring to jump high enough to reach
the platform on the right. Use the next few springs to go up and into the pipe
on the right. Now outside the Dreanought, you'll see green spinning top
enemies. You can jump on them to bounce up. Once at the top, wall jump between
the two moving walls to reach the very top. Get into the Launch Star to reach a
cube. Use the Sling Star here to get on yet another planet. Walk around it to
find the cannon and have a bullet follow you. Run back to the cage and let the
bullet blow it up to reveal a water sprout. Water will fill the whole planet.
Swim to the largest structure you can climb up and wait for green beam
platforms to move to the edge. Get on the right one and let it carry you to the
next structure. Use the platforms here and avoid the beams to reach the Power
Star on the tallest structure.
Dreadnought's Colossal Cannons
To cross over to the platform ahead, you'll need to run on the right side of
the giant bolt. You can either run diagonally or stay on the right side and
jump as the bolt spins. Doing so will spin the bolt and thus make it move over
to the other side. If yo ufall down, simply use the Sling Star to go back up.
For the next part, step on all the flipswitches to deactivate the electrical
barriers. Step on the next set of flipswitches to turn them all yellow, then
head up and repeat the same process from before to walk the spinning bolts over
to the other side. As you approach your goal, octopus enemies will shoot two
balls. Hit them back at the them with a spin, the ncontinue your way into the
Launch Star at the end to reach a new part of the Dreadnought. To get through
the following part, you'll need to use the moving platform to advance while
avoiding the many cannonballs. There will be several obstacles on your way,
most of which can be easily overcome with the useful backwards somersault.
You'll also need to sometimes switch from a platform to another, and put up
with different gravities, although the obstacles stay the same. When you get to
the end, jump on top of the purple enemy to bounce up and collect the Power
Star above.
Revenge of the Topman Tribe
Start by jumping on top of the green spinning top to bounce up to the Sling
Star above your head. On the following planet, spin into the red spinning tops
to push them into the barriers around the encaged Luma. Once it's free, it will
transform into a Launch Star now at your disposal. You'll land on a cube with a
red switch. Pound the switch to make five Star Chips appear. Easily collect
them (use the green spinning top to reach the one in the air), then use the
Pull Stars to reach the Launch Star. When you grab the last one, let go of the
A button so you float up to the Launch Star. In the next area, you'll need to
do the same thing. Grab the Pull Stars with the right timing to naviguate your
way through the mines and avoid the cannonballs. When you get to the end, don't
forget to release the A button after grabbing the last Pull Star so you float
up to the Launch Star. You'll get to a large blue platform. Make your way to
the top right corner, grabbing the Life Mushroom on the way and jumping over
the red beams. Use the Launch Star to get to the last area. Walk to the top of
the saucer and get ready to face a boss you fought previously. The strategy is
the exact same. Get rid of the small spinning tops first by pushing them into
the electrical fields, then ground pound (or just jump on top) of the boss to
take off the spikes and now spin to send it towards the electric fields. Repeat
the process two more times to defeat it. Collect your Power Star after the
fight.
(secret star)
Dreadnought's Garbage Dump
To get the hidden star, re-enter the third level. At the very beginning, walk
to the underneath part of the saucer you start on to find a pipe. It will lead
you to a garbage dump like the one in Battlerock Galaxy. In fact, it's the same
thing. Talk to the robot to start the mini-game. What you should make note of
is that the bomb's timer starts as soon as you touch it. So pick up one bomb,
then walk past the other bombs, touching them on the way, just to activate the
timer. Throw the bomb you're holding on one of the yellow dots either one of
the sides. You'll need to throw all bombs on these dots. After throwing this
bomb, pick up another one and throw it on the nearest yellow dot. Since the
timer was activated earlier, it should explode shortly. Throw the rest of the
activated bombs before they explode and touch the new bombs to activate them
too. This will speed up the explosions. Also, if you throw two bombs in a close
range distance, the first bomb will make the nearest one explode and you might
get a chain reaction that will also help a lot. Just make sure you start with
the sides and then the middle. You can blow up several junk piles at the same
time if the bombs land right on the yellow dots. It's hard to do but it's
possible with the right timing. You'll be rewarded with a Power Star.
Melty Molten Galaxy
The Sinking Lava Spire
Follow the path up to the colored platforms, crossing them quickly before they
get swallowed by the lava. Ground pound the grey switch into the rockface ahead
to lower the wall, then watch out for the vapor jets and wall jump up to the
top of the cliff. Use the Sling Star here to head up to the volcano and keep
going to reach three small transparent balls. Ignore the Luma here for now and
jump up to the top of the highest ball. Use the Pull Stars in the top right
corner and naviguate your way through the small firey planet. Avoid them at all
cost if you don't want to get burned. At the end, use the Launch Star and the
following Sling Stars to reach a piece of planet half sunken into the lava.
There are five Star Chips scattered around it. Look in all corners to find them
and make a Launch Star appear. Use this Launch Star to reach the tower in the
center of the planet. Head over to it quickly as the platforms fall down. As
soon as you get to it, the tower will start sinking into the lava. Hurry around
it until you get to a switch. Ground pound it, then wall jump between the two
walls and continue your ascension to the top of the tower, as quickly as you
can. Break the crystal holding the Power Star and make it yours.
(secret star)
Burning Tide
To get the hidden star, re-enter the first level. You'll need to gather 80 Star
Bits right at the start. You can find about 15 Star Bits in crystals around the
beginning area, then a few others over the lava pond ahead. Just move the
cursor over them to collect all. Then head up to the top of the cliff and use
the Sling Stars as usual. After launching from the volcano, make sure to
collect all Star Bits in the air with the cursor. You can get almost 80 at this
point. You'll then land on the three transparent balls where the hungry Luma
is. If you don't have exactly 80 and are missing a few, use the Pull Stars to
reach the fireball planets and move the cursor to collect some Star Bits
circling around the planetoids. Once you have 80, use the Pull Stars to
backtrack to the three transparent balls. Feed the hungry Luma, then launch
yourself to the new planet. Here, go around the planet and collect the five
Silver Stars. Wait for the lava to lower so you can cross. Once you have all
five, the Power Star will be yours.
Through the Meteor Storm
At the start, head over to the end of the path as you normally would. However,
it's a dead-end with two torches. Look around and you should spot a small flame
enemy. Lure it to a torch, close enough so it lights it up. Do the same with
the other torch. A Launch Star will appear. In the next area, walk around the
planet and avoid the holes and meteors until you get to the next Launch Star.
The following planet will have you go around and collect Star Chips. There's
one inside the crate on the left and the other four are scattered on the edges
of the planet. Once you have all five, use the new Launch Star to reach a U
shaped planet. Head over to the other side of the planet and have a bullet
follow you back to the tip you started on. You'll need to carefully walk it
through the short walls and enemies, then have it smash down the glass dome.
Use the Launch Star inside to get to the last part. Here you must ride the ball
to the goal, going through various obstacles. There isn't much to say to help
you, it's all about mastering the Wiimote. When you get the ball to the hole,
you'll receive the Power Star.
Fiery Dino Piranha
Walk over to the new colored platforms in the lava pond and cross to the alcove
in the rockface. Climb up to the top, watching out for the vapor jets. Head
down the pipe, then use the Sling Star to reach the sunken lava planet. There
seem to be no way to go here, so what to do in this case? Defeat all the
enemies around. You can dispose of those little flame enemies by spin attacking
them twice (once in flame form, once in magma form). Once you're done, use the
new Launch Star that just appeared to reach a moving lava planet. Walk over to
the other side and use the next Launch Star. In the following area, use the
moving platforms to collect the five Star Chips scattered around, but watch out
not to fall in the center. There are two near the top and three near the
bottom. Then use the new Launch Star to reach more colored platforms. Get into
the Sling Stars until you get to the very last planet, where Fiery Dino Piranha
is waiting. Remember him from the very first world? Well, it's the same thing,
instead this time his tail can burn you. You'll need to wait for the tail to
turn black before attacking. Run after Dino Piranha and spin at the tail at the

right moment to attack him. Do this three times to defeat him. Collect your
Power Star afterwards.
Matter Splatter Galaxy
Watch Your Step
In the first area, make sure to only step where the droplet falls. You can be
sure the path will always be solid there, but not around, so be careful. Head
down the pipe at the end. In the second area, follow the path as it moves
around. If it goes left, go left, and so on. You'll need to do some wall
jumping to get to the top. Don't go too fast and stay on the path. Head down
the pipe at the top. In the third area, grab the Spring Mushroom and start
jumping up, but slowly. You can jump through some of the platforms, so don't
worry about timing the jumps right. Use the Sling Star at the top to reach the
pipe. In the last area, you'll have to choose the correct paths, but you can't
see a thing. This part is harder and might require a few deaths until you get
it right. Once you know which way to take, simply follow the path up to the
Power Star.
Observatory
Sweet Sweet Galaxy
Rocky Road
If you have more than 400 Star Bits, feed the hungry Luma next to the Terrace
to gain access to the Sweet Sweet Galaxy. This level is very short and linear.
I personally think it's extremely easy, but some might find it hard. Follow the
moving path, jump over the holes and make sure not to fall. Put your skills and
reflexes to test here. Not much I can do to help you, but it's not that
difficult anyways, if you've completed Super Mario Sunshine ;] Collect the
Power Star on the cake at the end.
Sling Pod Galaxy
A Very Sticky Situation
After completing the third level of this galaxy, a hungry Luma should also have
appeared outside the Fountain. Feed it 400 Star Bits to access the Sling Pod
Galaxy. This level can be very frustrating as there is no way to tell where
you'aiming, and this level requires precision in the aiming. Aim from one Sling
Pod to the other, timing your aim so you don't get into the obstacles, until
you get to the Pull Stars. Going from one to the other, you'll come to another
Sling Pod. To get to it, pull the star behind it. Then get to the second Sling
Pod and make note of the coin at the bottom of the screen. Aim in that
direction to grab a hidden ? Coin (right after you get it, aim at the Pull Star
nearby so you don't fall) that will make Star Bits appear in shape of a aiming
line. That should help for the rest of the level. Keep going until you get the
Power Star at the end.
Drip Drop Galaxy
Giant Eel Outbreak
Feed the hungry Luma outside the Kitchen 600 Star Bits to access Drip Drop
Galaxy. The goal of this level is to pick a shell and head down underwater to
find the three eels. One by one, you must rush into them to destroy them. It's
easier said than done, but one thing that can really make things easier is to
use a red shell instead of the green one. The red ones are much faster. You can
find a red one at the very bottom. Also watch out for the missiles that will
follow you around, but with the red shell you'll be able to outpass them. Don't
forget also to keep an eye on your air and pick bubbles when you need oxygen.
Find and destroy the three eels and the Power Star will appear at the sunken
ship.
Bigmouth Galaxy
Bigmouth's Gold Bait
Feed the hungry Luma outside the Bedroom 800 Star Bits to access it. I bet you
were starting to miss underwater levels. In that one, you must retrieve the
golden shell in order to open the golden chest. Simple enough. Start by getting
the green shell from the Koopa nearby, then dive into the water. Break through
the brick wall ahead, then swim down to the center of the next room to grab the
first Star Chip. The four others are scattered around the bottom, hidden among
the seaweeds. Once you've got all five, use the Sling Star to get to the upper
part of the room. Get the gold shell in the center and dive back all the way to
the entrance with the shell. Spin to throw the shell at the chest and open it.
Talk to the Toad inside to receive the Power Star from him.
Sand Spiral Galaxy
Choosing a Favorite Snack
Feed the hungry Luma behind (above) the Engine Room 1000 Star Bits to access
Sand Spiral. Head over to the tunnel ahead, avoiding Kammy Koopa's shots.
You'll have the choice between a Boo Mushroom on the left, or a Bee Mushroom on
the right. I personally think making it with the Boo one is easier, but either
way, make it to the end of the tunnel. If you choose the Boo Mushroom, avoid
the lights. If you choose the Bee mushroom, first fly to the pole (hold A a
little bit, then release, and repeat, to fly longer), then fly from platform to
platform. In the next area, get the Rainbow Star to turn invincible. Run to the
left around the spiral platform, crushing into the boulders and jumping over
the holes. Grab other Rainbow Stars along the way and keep heading left until
you get to the middle. Jump on the sphere and collect the Power Star.
Snow Cap Galaxy
Star Bunnies in the Snow
Feed the hungry Luma behind the Garden 1600 Star Bits to access this galaxy. To
get to the actual planet, pick up the shell underneath the starting area (that
you can't see, but it's there), then throw it on the chest to reveal a Sling
Star leading to the planet. Three Star Bunnies there will challenge you to find
and catch them. You have limited time to find them, but they are nowhere to be
found. To get to them, you'll need to sweep off the snow on the ground to
reveal small flipswitches. To do so, use the Wiimote and move the cursor over
the snow to sweep it off and reveal the switches. Once you've found all the
switches, step on them all (one is near the tip of the planet) and something
will open up. Grab the Fire Flower that was hidden there and use it to blow off
all the snowmen. One bunny is hidden inside a snowman, and one snowman holds a
green shell. Throw that shell on the chest at the tip of the planet to reveal
the second bunny. The last bunny is hidden inside one of the holes under the
snow. Simply point the cursor at a hole and Star Bits will come out. One of
them holds the bunny however. Once the three bunnies are out, chase them into
the pit (where the Fire Flower was) at the tip of the planet. That way you can
catch them very easily without having to run around like crazy. Poor little
trapped rabbits will hand over the Power Star.
Boo's Boneyard Galaxy
Racing the Spooky Speedster
To access this galaxy, feed the hungry Luma outside the Gate 1200 Star Bits. At
the beginning, head inside the skull planet using the orange pipe. You'll back
up with that racing fanatic Boo. Grab the Boo Mushroom, then spin to turn
invisible and go through the wall. Fly up by tapping A and talk to the Boo to
start the race. It's a simplistic race where you must follow the arrows, but
you also need to avoid obstacles in the way by turning invisible when needed.
Choose the right paths and get in the air drafts to go faster. If you don't,
you won't move very quickly at all and might get bypassed. It's not an overall
very difficult race however, there aren't really any tricks or tips to win.
Make it to the end first to be awarded the Power Star.
To get the three last stars of the Observatory, you will need to gather all
three Green Power Stars. All three are secret stars hidden in the following
galaxies: Battlerock (Luigi), Buoy Base (secret star), Dusty Dune.
Rolling Gizmo Galaxy
Gizmos, Gears and Gadgets
Another level a la Monkey Ball. Not much too say here either, just roll to the
goal, very carefully making your way through narrow paths and other obstacles.
Don't go too fast and take your time. To get through these giant blocks
blocking your way, gather some speed, then run up to the blocks and jump with A
to crush them down. You'll get the Power Star at the very end of the level,
just hop into the hole.
Loopdeeswoop Galaxy
The Galaxy's Greatest Wave
Uh-huh not that again. The controls for this race are still as inaccurate as
last time, but it's basically the exact same thing, only longer and more curvy.
Just remember that you don't need to be holding A the whole time, just let it
go in curves, then press A for a sort while, let it go, press it again, and so
on. Just enough to go forward without straying too much. All you need to do is
cross the finish line within three minutes. You'll be rewarded with a Power
Star.
Bubble Blast Galaxy
The Electric Labyrinth
There are five pipes at the starting point. What you must do is go through each
one of these pipes, work your way through the obstacles in the bubble, and get
the Star Chip at the end of the course. Once you have obtained all five from
the five different tracks, a Launch Star will appear (no sorry it's not over
just yet). Still in another bubble, you'll now need to go through one last,
harder, obstacle course in order to reach the Power Star at the very end. Watch
out for the bullet and make sure not to hit the sides. The only way to make it
is to keep holding A most of the time. For that you'll need to have a good
understanding of the path, so you'll probably need to start over a few times,
but there are several 1-Up Mushrooms around so don't worry about that.
Talk to Roselina when you're ready to go and have enough Power Stars (60).
Bowser's Galaxy Reactor
The Fate of the Universe
At the start of the level, you can only walk on the walls if you're standing
within the gravity field. Follow the path and avoid the obstacles as you stay
within the circle. You'll then reach a lava planet. Jump on the platforms while
avoiding the fire until you get to the next planet, an ice one. Quickly cross
the platforms without sliding off, then you'll get to a sand planet. Cross on
the rotating platform, then make your way to the area. Here again you'll need
to be quick as the platforms disappear. Wall jump between the platforms up to
the top, then go right to the next part. Now you'll need to go around the
cylinder to follow the path. Jump on the moving platforms and avoid the
bullets. Stay on the last platform and wait for it to rotate to get on the next
path. Stand on the side to avoid the giant bullet, then go on until you get to
the Launch Star. Now climb up the stairway before it gets crushed and grab the
Life Mushroom on the left. You'll now have to defeat Bowser throughout several
planets.
On the first one, prepare a backwards somersault as Bowser jumps to send in
some shockwaves. Jump as they come by and spin to make the jump last longer. By
the time you land back on the ground, the waves will have past their way. Now
Bowser will roll into a boulder. Don't try to escape him by running away, just
run after him (as if you were running around him). Do a backwards somersault
when you have the chance to and spin next to the part of him that sticks out of
the boulder. You might get it only after a few tries, you have to really hit
him there or you'll end up hurt by the boulder. If you make it, Bowser will
fall on his back and start spinning around. Stand still and wait for him to
come spinning by. Hit him with a spin attack. Now repeat the exact same
process, but spin attack him twice at the second round.
On the second planet, run around to avoid the fireballs Bowser will throw at
you at first. He will then roll up and roll around. Wait for him to be close
enough and spin next to one of these little bouncing plants to send it right
back at him. Bowser will fall on his back and start spinning. Wait for him to
spin by and spin attack him. Repeat the process, then spin attack him twice.
The third and last planet is a smaller version of the previous battles with
Bowser. Jump to avoid the first wave of attacks, then Bowser will roll up and
roll around. Avoid him by running around too, then he will leap up. Stand on
one of the blue circles around the planet and wait for him to jump. Get away at
the last moment and he will land on the circle and start running around. Wait
for him to change direction and show his tail. Spin attack the tail and he'll
start spinning around on his shell. Spin attack him, as usual. Repeat the
process one last time and you're done! Sit back and enjoy the ending.
You can now undergo the Purple Coins challenge and aim for 120 Stars.
