BASIC FISHING INFO
------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Some of this info applies only to Tournament events and won’t apply if
you’re Free Fishing.  The Fish-o-pedia says Piton the Northern Snakehead
sighted this autumn in the evening and it should be autumn in the morning.
I have corrected it throughout the guide. The Fish-o-pedia does not list
Walleye at Lake Mead, but they can be found there in the morning.

Upon starting a new game you will select a character and customize it.
You will not be able to change your name or gender, but you can change
your clothing later.  Use the A button to select.  Use the thumbstick, D-pad
or Wii cursor to change the  options.  When finished, you will be
prompted to save the profile.

The next screen you come to is the main menu.

When you select a Tournament event there are four subheadings:
Start Event - begin the tournament
     Event Table - competitor standings
Livewell - what fish you’ve caught
     Tier Table - leader board.

There are four tiers to each skill level. You must complete lower tiers
before  unlocking the next tier.Choose a tournament event, free fishing
or two player and press A to begin.  The Z button changes the view while
you’re driving the boat. Press A in the boat to accelerate, B to reverse
and brake.  Thumbstick on nunchuck, or tilting the controller, will steer
the boat.  If you’re using the thumbstick, be sure to not tilt the
controller. You can’t enter fishing mode if the boat is going too fast.
Press the 1 button to enter fishing mode. Press the 1 button to get back
in the boat.

Target fish means the fish you are trying to catch. There are several
indicators to show you where fish are.  In Tournament events, always drive
around until you find the large green circles on the GPS.  If the Fishfinder
is on, your target fish are blue and the others are red.

During Free Fishing, the red circles on the GPS are the best fishing spots.
Your casting ring will turn from yellow to green when you are in the
boundaries of the fishing spot.In the lower left corner, while in
boat-driving mode, is the FishFinder/GPS. The C button will toggle between
FishFinder and GPS.  Pressing the plus (+) button during game play will
bring up the menu and pause the game.  Depending on what mode of fishing
you do, some of the options won’t be in the menu.

Tournament Menu:
     Resume
Event Objectives – what fish you’re going for, primary and
secondary objectives
     Livewell – fish you’ve caught
Event Table – competitors and rankings
Fish-o-pedia – everything you need to know about lure techniques,
equipment, fish, etc…
Controls – allows you to switch control sets
Options – gameplay, video and sound (use the thumbstick or d-pad to
change options)
     Restart
     Quit to Main Menu

Free Fishing Menu:
     Resume
Objectives – this show up once you’ve accepted a challenge
     Fish-o-pedia
     Controls
Challenges – a list of challenges for that lake and completion status
Options – gameplay, video and sound (use the thumbstick or d-pad to
change options)
     Restart
     Quit to main menu

Pressing the – button will bring up your tackle box while your in the boat
or while fishing. Pressing the one button with your tackle box open will
toggle through the fish in that lake for your season and time of day.
There will be a max of four fish species in the lake at any season and time,
or five if you met the Monster fish requirements during Free Fishing.
Tournament events may have more than four fish species.  You must change
season or time of day to change the fish species in the lake during Free
Fishing.  Largemouth Bass are present constantly.

When you get out of the boat to fish, there will be a colored circle,
either yellow or green.  This is the casting ring.  Better rods and reels
improve casting precision and distance.  Use the thumbstick to move the
casting ring around.  Also use the thumbstick to troll.  Push the casting
ring out to max distance and keep pushing to troll out further.  Pull the
casting ring all the way toward you and keep pulling to troll in reverse.
If the casting ring hits a barrier, like the bank or a wall, it won’t troll
you any closer.  In timed events – Tournament and Free Fishing – setting
your casting ring around 47-60 feet greatly improves your success. Try to
stop the boat more close to the bank if you need the casting ring closer
to you.

Pull up your tackle using the minus (–) button. Toggle through the fish in
the lake  using the 1 button. Fish will have five stars underneath them.
Depending on how well the fish likes the tackle you’re using, the stars
will change from all black (doesn’t like it at all) to red, yellow or green.
One red star means the fish will bite on your selected tackle. Five green
stars is perfect tackle. Using the tackle that your target fish really
likes, and the least amount of other fish in that lake that like it,
improves your chances of catching the target fish.  Use the thumbstick or
D-pad to change lures, reels and rods.  If a fish has one red star when
the lure is small and  the line is 6 pounds, larger fish of that species
will still bite.

To cast press and hold B, raise the controller and fling it forward quickly
in an arc.  You will get a casting bonus for hitting the ring.  If you press
and hold the B  button for too long it will shrink, decreasing your chance
for the bonus.

After casting, press the Z button to change lure techniques.  Lures have 2
techniques.  Change techniques if your fish aren’t responding to the first
technique. Mimic the movement of the controller on the lower right to attract
fish from farther away.  Always use the lure technique. Press 2 while reeling
in to turn the lure technique icon off and on.

If you mimic the lure technique correctly, some background music will start
and your lure will give off sparkling gold stars.  Press and hold the B
button to reel in.  You can also reel in using the nunchuck (wiggle it
back and forth, or in a circle.  You’ll be able to hear it reeling in
when done properly).

If you want to turn the music off, press the plus (+) button, choose Options,
then audio, turn down the Retrieve music. When a fish bites, hook the
fish by jerking the Wii-mote in the direction of the onscreen indicator.
Keep reeling in as you hook the fish. See below for perfect hooking
instructions. When you hook a fish, the bottom left will say the type of
fish and how much it weighs.

There will be a treble hook icon on the lower right corner after you hook a
fish. This is your hook stability. Depending on how well you hooked the fish,
you’ll receive one of three colors on the treble hook icon: three silver
hooks for perfect, one yellow or red with two silver hooks for good, or two
silver hooks for poor.  Reel in constantly or the line will slack and the
fish will escape.  Stop reeling when the fish swims to far to the sides of
the screen, a circle of red will appear around the fish’s mouth and the
game gives warning beeps. The treble hooks will turn color from silver to
yellow to red and break off if your fish is on the side of the screen too
long.

Keep the fish in the center of the screen by moving your controller in the
opposite  direction the fish is pulling and the same direction the onscreen
controller is  showing.  As the fish moves toward the center of the screen,
move the Wii-mote also.  You want to move the Wii-mote in the mirror opposite
of the fish. If you pull the fish to the side, without moving the Wii-mote to
the center as the fish does, you’ll just keep pulling him all the way to the
side of the screen. The Wii-mote will vibrate when the fish is going to
switch sides. Using the right fishing line helps or hinders how far and how
long a fish can be to the sides of the screen.  If you have a 40 pound fish
on a 10 pound line, you’re going to get lots of red.

If you caught a fish you don’t want, press the C button to cut the line.
Cutting the  line on a fish makes it leave your fishing spot too and can
be a benefit if your lure  attracts multiple types of fish. In Rookie
tournament mode the fish tire out easily  and will always stay in the
center of the screen.

When fish get within 22 feet of the boat the viewing angle will change.
The onscreen controller indicator, showing you what direction to keep it
in the center, disappears. Watch the fish and pull in the opposite
direction it’s facing to keep it in the center.

As the game progresses there will be a red bar across the top of the
screen with blue  in the middle.  This means the fish is going to jump
and you have to press the A  button while a circle is within the blue
section to prevent its escape.  The bigger  the fish, the smaller the
blue section and the appropriate line plays a factor also.

With some fish you have two chances to hit the blue section, your first
chance is when the circle moves toward the left, prior to the fish’s jump,
and your second chance when the circle moves toward the right after the fish
has jumped. Successfully countering an escape brings the fish closer to you.
How many feet closer is determined by the weight of the fish and the line
you’re using.

There is a timer at the top of the screen after selecting events, and when
it runs out  the tournament or challenge is over.  If you have a fish on,
you can keep reeling it  in and it will still count toward the tournament.
During tournament, if you don’t have a fish on when the timer runs out, it
puts you automatically in the boat mode. This is a bit glitchy, sometimes
when I had a fish on at the end of the timer it counted toward the tournament
and sometimes not.

You have 10 minutes to get back to the dock during tournament play. Press
the 1  button to get into boat mode if you had a fish on when the timer ran
out. Press the C button to view the GPS. Follow the double arrows on the
GPS to the dock. When the dock is on the same screen as your boat, it will
be a blue square. Drive up close to the dock and press the A button to
weigh in.

You can press 1 to restart a tournament or A to accept.  Restarting will
remove your eligible unlockables and points from the event and you’ll have
to start over.  When  Free Fishing, you won’t see your unlockables until
you return to the main menu.

------------------------------------------------------------------
ATTACK BONUS
------------------------------------------------------------------

After you complete a tier 1 level in the Rookie Season, reeling in while
the fish is  in the center of the screen fills up an attack bar.  The bar
starts off as a small  bluish-white dot at the top center of the screen,
just under the clock, and expands to  the left and right as you keep the
fish in the center. When the attack bar turns all  blue, the A button will
appear on screen.  Before initiating attack, make sure the  buttons are
facing up when you jerk the line (buttons toward the ceiling, battery pack
facing the floor).  If you tipped it and the buttons are facing slightly
sideways, not up, you’ll probably get some red lines.  Follow the onscreen
prompts to determine  which direction to jerk. Keep your wrist as stiff as
possible and move your elbow  instead.

Red, blue or bluish-white lines will surround the fish. Blue lines
are perfect. Red lines mostly sink the hook deeper, but the fish will
swim out about farther and occasionally lose hook stability. Bluish-white
means you’re probably going to lose the fish.

As the game progresses you’ll be able to press the A button to flip small
and medium sized fish into the boat when they’re within 22 feet.
The Flip It game bar and the Attack game bar are one in the same.
Depending on how many feet out your fish is, you may want to save the
bonus for a Flip It instead of Attack.  If you’re far enough out, it is
possible to fill the game bar a second time before the fish gets within
22 feet. Max size to flip is somewhere between 6 pounds 5 ounces and
6 pounds 9 ounces. If your fish is the appropriate weight, the game bar
will continue to fill up for the Flip it bonus when the fish is within
22 feet of the boat. The Flip it bonus  disappears when the fish is within
5 feet of the boat. When the fish is 3 feet away,  your character will haul
the fish in the boat.  You can decide whether to keep or  release most fish,
monster fish you must release.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
OVERHEAD AND PITCH CASTING
--------------------------------------------------------------------

There are two types of casting, overhead (overhand) and pitch (underhand).

How to overhead cast:

Hold the Wii-mote like you’re the Statue of Liberty and the Wii-mote is the
torch. Now bend and point your elbow toward the TV (if the Wii-mote is in
your right hand, bend your elbow while putting the Wii-mote on your right
shoulder.  If the Wii-mote is in your left hand, bend your elbow while
putting the Wii-mote on your left shoulder).  The Wii-mote buttons should
be facing the floor.

Press and hold the B button.  Without letting go of the Wii-mote, fling the
Wii-mote forward toward the TV as fast as you can and let go of the B button
when you’re about halfway through the arc.  If you aren’t casting perfectly,
experiment when you let go of the B button and the speed that you fling the
controller.  Move the casting ring from max distance to half distance and
try to hit the casting ring.  If it goes too far, ease up on how fast you’re
casting.  How far you cast will be at the bottom center of the screen after
your lure hits the water.

How to pitch cast:

Method 1: Hold the Wii-mote with the buttons facing up,
battery pack facing down. This is the same action as initiating the
Attack function.  Swipe the rod horizontally, kind of like throwing a
Frisbee.  You can cast from right to left or left to right.
Keep your wrist stiff and move your elbow instead.

Method 2:  Point the tip of the Wii-mote toward the floor (buttons and
battery pack facing to the right and left of you may be easier than
buttons up, battery pack down) and flick the Wii-mote upwards.

A pitch cast won’t go as far as an overhead cast.  Move your casting ring
out as far as it will go, pitch cast a few times and make a mental note of
how many feet you’re throwing.  Move the casting ring to the number of feet
you’re consistently pitch casting.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
PERFECT HOOKS
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Wait for the fish to get close, ignore the lure technique
and have the controller held  horizontally (Wii-mote pointing
in front of you, nunchuck cable pointed toward you and buttons facing
the ceiling, battery pack facing the floor). When it bites, jerk the
controller in the direction of the onscreen indicator.  Keep your wrist
stiff and move your elbow instead.

The indicator will show you one of four directions: up, down, left, right.
For an up icon, jerk the Wii-mote tip from facing in front of you toward the
ceiling. For a down icon, jerk the Wii-mote tip from facing in front of you
toward the floor. If you’re using a topwater lure, most fish will give you a
down icon.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
MONSTER FISH TRICK
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Use this technique for Monster Hunt challenges and challenges
that have a pounds of fish requirement, restarting in between each
challenge. Make sure your autosave feature is turned on by pulling
up the menu, go to Options then Gameplay. Autosave is the third one down.
Make sure the autosave screen pops up after you completed the challenge.
There may be a brief pause before it pops up on some challenges.

Drive to and activate the appropriate challenge rings after you have
the Monster fish Location. Monster trick information will be listed
again at the beginning of each Free Fishing lake.  Monster fish are
indicated on the GPS by a blue circle and on the fish finder by a giant
blue fish.  Use GPS view when using this trick.  Occasionally the red
fishing spots and blue Monster fish spots overlap, switch to the fish
finder if you’re unsure. Some blue Monster fish spots may not be visible
until you drive near enough to them. Change the season and time of day to
your Monster fish requirements before entering the lake.  Drive to the
location for each lake listed below.

***If it’s not there, press the plus (+) button to access the menu and
restart***   Pull up the GPS again after restarting.  It may take several
tries, most of the time, but not always, less than 10.  This will work for
all Monster fish in the lake, not just a specific Monster fish.

-LAKE MINNETONKA-

The blue indicator is not visible immediately, you must drive near it.
From the  default boat position drive straight west under the bridge near
the Strength In  Numbers Challenge.  Look for the blue indicator on the
left side near the bank in  front of the large yellow house.

-LAKE LANIER-

The blue indicator is not visible immediately, you must drive near it.
Drive down the southeast branch that is directly underneath you. Red and
blue fishing spots may overlap.

-LAKE CASITAS-

The blue indicator will be visible immediately on your GPS to the north,
in between the two docks nearest to The Meaning of Fishing Challenge.

-LAKE CHAMPLAIN-

The blue indicator will be visible immediately on your GPS to the east.

-LAKE FORK-

The blue indicator will be visible immediately on your GPS to the northeast.

-LAKE ERIE-

Blue indicator will be visible immediately to the right.  Drive forward
and turn right, in between the first two docks.

-LAKE MEAD-

The blue indicator is not visible immediately, you must drive near it.
Drive southeast from the default boat position to the easternmost corner
of this branch.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
TOURNAMENT
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

*This was written before any Free Fishing challenge lures were unlocked
and you may have better options.

Seasons:  Rookie, Pro, Legendary
You must complete Rookie season to unlock Pro and complete Pro to unlock
Legendary.

Secondary objective helps you gain tournament points but won’t get you
unlockables.

When you’re in a tournament with a length requirement, sometimes the fish
that weigh less are longer than a heavier fish.

If you feel like you’ve won or want to stop, drive to the dock and you can
weigh in  early and it will tally the scores immediately.

The unlockables are by tier only. You won’t get additional unlockables for
completing the other tournament events in those tiers.

The tier structures for Rookie, Pro and Legendary are identical: Three
events for tier 4, two events for tier 3, one event for tiers 2 and Final.

Cut the line on anything hooked outside of your target fish with the C button.

You must keep the fish for it to count toward your total.

In Tournament fishing there are large green circles when you’re using the GPS.
These fishing spots are loaded with your target fish.  Always drive around
until you find one. If you switch to the FishFinder your target fish will be
blue, other fish will be red. When you get out to cast, hover your casting
ring over the surface of the water until it turns green. A yellow casting ring
means you’re outside of the fishing spot.

Keeping your casting ring around 47-60 feet, and still green, is the
single most  important element, outside of location, that will help you
place first.  You will have  a lot more time at your disposal if you didn’t
waste two minutes or more reeling in if your casting ring was at max distance.

To troll the boat if you are too far away, set the casting ring to max
distance and keep pushing it out further. If you are too close, bring the
casting ring as close to  you as you can and keep pulling the casting ring
toward you. If the Interim standings get in the way of your FishFinder/GPS,
turn them off by pressing the plus (+) button, go to Options then Gameplay.
Turn Interim Standings off at the bottom.

FREE FISHING
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
*If you’ve met the requirements to unlock the monster fish,
the GPS will show a blue circle at a random location upon entering
the lake and the fish finder will have a giant blue fish.
You don’t have to activate the Monster Hunt Challenge for the blue
indicator to be there and can catch them right away.  You have to activate
the Monster Hunt Challenge for it to qualify toward the challenge. If you’re
in a lake with a challenge where a requirement is pounds of fish, you can
use the monster fish toward the weight qualification.  Once you catch a
monster fish, it will move to a new location. You don’t have to restart.
If you’re at a lake where the monster fish is near the default boat
position, you may have to restart several times for it to reappear.

If you’re having difficulty trying to find it, get the fastest boat
by unlocking the  final tier of the Pro Season. Drive around every inch
of the lake since some of the  GPS indicators don’t show up until you’re
near them.

You can select all of the lakes, weather type, reel type, season and
time of day and  play with no time limit to free fish.In each lake are
red rings on the water surface with a red and white circle floating
above them.  Drive into the red circle and press A to activate a challenge.
There are time limits to most challenges. If you complete the challenge
successfully, the red circle on the water surface disappears.

The red and white circle floating above the water remains if you ever
want to repeat the challenge.  It will auto save when you complete the
challenge if you have that option turned on. The red circle on the water
surface will not reappear even if you leave the lake.  When you quit to
main menu, you can see the unlockables you collected.  There’s no easy
way to tell you how to locate the rings, just drive around until you
spot one.  Use the GPS and drive around the border of land clockwise
if you’re having a problem.

I completed all of the Tournament challenges before this, so some of my
equipment may be different than yours.

After selecting a lake, press the plus (+) button to access the challenges
information.

----------------------------LAKE MINNETONKA CHALLENGES-----------------------

*MONSTER FISH TRICK: You need to drive near it. From the default
boat position drive straight west under the bridge near the
Strength In Numbers Challenge.  Look for the blue indicator on the

and time of day to autumn in the morning and use Lou the Lake Sturgeon
for Monster Hunt and The Real Deal challenges.

Rapala Original Floater medium to catch a Walleye, Muskellunge and a
Silver Carp in the same fishing spot.  Cut the line if you hook the
same type of fish that you’ve already caught. Drive to a new location
and use a Topwater Rapala Skitter Walk to snag a Largemouth Bass.
It doesn’t have to be a fishing spot, just somewhere random. If you
don’t want to go back and change time of day, toggle through the fish
and see what lure they like.

Title: THE REAL DEAL
Objective: Catch more than 100 pounds of fish without losing any fish
Time Limit: 30 minutes
Unlockable: Rapala Skitter Pop
Recommendation:  Cutting the line counts as losing a fish.

Method 1: Catch Lou the Lake Sturgeon, 200-plus pounds.

Method 2: Shallow running Rapala Original Floater, large, 30 pound line
(unlock tier 3 of Rookie tournament) or 80 if you have it (placed first
in the final round of the Legendary Tournament), any rod and reel.
Drive to a nearby fishing spot.  If you only have 14 pound line (unlocked
by winning 3rd place or better in Rookie Season tier 1), use a medium
instead of large.

Title: TARGET PRACTICE, LAKE MINNETONKA
Objective: Cast into more than 10 rings in the time limit
Time Limit: 9 minutes
Unlockable: Rapala Glass Shad Rap
Recommendation: Only one ring appears at a time.  You can miss and it’s
not a penalty. Equip rod and reel with best casting precision.  Line your
pole up with the right edge of the casting ring and use overhead casting.

Title: STRENGTH IN NUMBERS
Objective: Catch 5 fish of the same species consecutively in any of the
locations
specified on the map
Time Limit: 15 minutes
Unlockable: Sunglasses 2
Recommendation:  When you accept the challenge the spots on the map, using
your GPS, are represented by blue dots and on the water surface is a lime
green ring.  Use the Shift Casting Rod, a Rapala Original Floater medium
and 30 pound line.  Line your casting ring up so that max distance lands
in the middle or the edge opposite of you, troll the boat if you need to.
Catch your first fish and make that your target fish. Cut the line to any
that aren’t your target fish.  Use the Attack and Flip it function
at every opportunity.  When you cut the line, recast as fast as possible.

To find the location of the Strength in Numbers challenge ring, go to the
main menu and start Free Fishing, Lake Minnetonka from the beginning.
When you enter the lake the default boat position is facing the Northwest
corner on your GPS.  Drive straight forward toward that Northwest corner
inlet and there are some banners on a bridge that say Sufix and VMC.  This
looks like a barrier, but it’s not.  Drive under them.

Title: JUST PERFECT
Objective: Perform 5 perfect hooks.
Time Limit: 10 minutes
Unlockable: Men’s character Rapala Tournament Shirt 4, woman’s character
Rapala
Tournament Shirt 19
Recommendations:  Drive to a nearby fishing spot.  Use the Shallow running
Rapala Original Floater, medium and 6 pound line.  Hover the casting ring
over the surface of the water until it turns green. You don’t have to reel
them in, just hook them.

Title: MONSTER HUNT, LAKE MINNETONKA
Objective: Catch a monster fish in this lake
Time Limit: 1 hour
Unlockable: RSC Spinning Rod.
Recommendation:  Pull up your tackle and toggle through your fish to make
sure the Monster fish is there.  It will be listed by its name. If not,
change the season and  time of day.  The Monster fish will be indicated by
a blue circle using your GPS or a giant blue fish using the fish finder.

If your Monster fish is not in a fishing spot, your casting ring will turn
lime green  when it’s above it (it will be lime green if it’s over a fishing
spot regardless).   When you catch the Monster fish, the lower left fish
information will say its name  instead of species, i.e. Dottie the Largemouth
Bass will say Dottie.Troll your boat until your casting ring is around 45
feet and still green for an easy catch.

Equip for all: Shallow running Rapala Original Floater medium, 80 pound line.

---------------------------LAKE LANIER CHALLENGES------------------------

*MONSTER FISH TRICK: You need to drive near it. Drive down the southeast

overlap. Set season and time of day to spring in the morning and use
Eyesup the Flathead Catfish for Monster Hunt and Heavy Lifting challenges,

Rapala Tournament Shirt 26
Recommendation: Bring your casting ring near your boat, press and hold B to
shrink it.  When it turns red it is 30 inches or less. Equip rod and reel
with best casting precision and move your casting ring out to max distance
or where you can cast consistently. Missing is not a penalty.

Title: DECISIONS, DECISIONS
Objective: Cut the line when fighting a fish that is 20 lbs or bigger
Time Limit: none
Unlockable: Rapala Jointed Shad Rap
Recommendation: Use a Shallow running Rapala Original Floater medium, 30
pound line, any rod and reel.  Cast from your immediate position.  Find a
fishing spot only if you don’t hook one from the challenge ring location.

Title: BASS FIGHT
Objective: Catch a world record Largemouth Bass over 22 pounds 4 ounces
Time Limit: 10 minutes
Unlockable: Blue Fox Rattlin’ Pixee Spoons
Recommendation: Equip a Shallow running Rapala Original Floater medium,
80 pound line, and farthest casting rod and reel.

North of the Bass Fight challenge ring is a Bridge.  Before the bridge is an
inlet on the west side.  It may have indicators on your GPS that show a
fishing spot.  Along the inlet is some tall grass and a couple of dead
branches that prevent you from driving your boat into the inlet. You have
to pitch cast into it.  Be sure to set your casting ring twice as far as
you want to land, because pitch casting will be about half the distance.
You can catch a 22 pound 4 ounce Largemouth Bass and qualify.

Title: HEAVY LIFTING
Objective: Catch more than 150 pounds of fish
Time Limit: 30 minutes
Unlockable: Rapala X-Rap 14
Recommendation:

Method 1: Catch Eyesup the Flathead Catfish for 200-plus pounds.

Method 2: Change season and time to autumn at evening and go for Channel
Catfish.
Equip a Shallow running Rapala Original Floater, medium and 30 pound line.
Find a fishing spot using the fish finder, hover the casting ring over the
surface of the water until it turns green.  Cut the line on anything much
less than 20 pounds, and recast as fast as you can.  Initiate Attack as much
as possible.

Title: 10 TIMES PERFECT
Objective: Perform 10 perfect hooks
Time Limit: none
Unlockable: Men’s character Rapala Tournament Shirt 10, woman’s character
Rapala Tournament Shirt 25
Recommendation: Drive to a nearby fishing spot.  Use the Shallow running
Rapala
Original Floater, medium and 6 pound line.  Hover your casting ring over
the surface of the water until it turns green. You don’t have to reel them
in, just hook them.

Title: USE THE WORM
Objective: Use the Trigger X Swimming Worm to catch a fish
Time Limit: 10 minutes
Unlockable: Trigger X Swimming Grub
Recommendation: Equip the Variable running depth Trigger X Swimming Worm,
medium, 14 pound line, any rod and reel.  Cast from your immediate location.

Title: UNDER PRESSURE
Objective: Go to each zone in order and catch 2 fish per zone
Time Limit: 15 minutes
Unlockable: Men’s character Rapala Tournament Shirt 7, woman’s character
Rapala Tournament Shirt 26
Recommendation: The zones are lime green rings, easily found on your GPS.
There will be three total.  Once you’ve caught the two required fish, the
green ring will disappear and you drive to the new location.  Equip a Shallow
running Rapala Original Floater small, 14 pound line and your shortest
casting rod.  Line up the casting ring so you hit the edge furthest away
from you at max distance.  Initiate Attack and Flip it as much as possible.
Cut the line on anything that bites that will give your 14 pound line a
problem.  If you are a confident marksman, line up your casting ring at
50-ish feet to the center of the green ring.   If you have problems, switch
to a faster boat and shorten your casting distance, and change the season to
autumn at noon.

To switch boats, go to the main menu and select Outfit Angler.  The higher
the  horsepower (HP), the faster the boat.
1. 175 HP, Ranger 1860 Angler – default boat
2. 250 HP, Ranger Z521 Comanche - Unlock the final event of the Rookie Season
3. 300 HP, Ranger 621V5 Fisherman – Unlock the final event of the Pro Season

If the challenge ring and green ring locations don’t vary by game, use this
as a guide to finding the green rings:  First ring, immediately east of this
challenge ring.  I used the GPS to drive to the next location. Point the boat
facing west and exit this  branch.  The GPS shows a branch going north and
south.  Take the second south branch, catch two fish in this ring until it
disappears. Leave this branch and go north.  Head slightly west and take the
first north branch.

Title: 5 PERFECT PITCH CASTS
Objective: Perform 5 consecutive perfect casts by using pitch cast
Time Limit: 4 minutes
Unlockable: SXSi Spinning Reel
Recommendation: Equip rod and reel with highest casting precision. A pitch
cast won’t go as far as an overhead cast.  Move your casting ring out as far
as it will go, pitch cast a few times and make a mental note of how many feet
you’re throwing.  Move the casting ring to the number of feet you’re
consistently pitch casting.

How to pitch cast:

Method 1: Hold the Wii-mote with the buttons facing up, battery pack facing
down. This is the same action as initiating the Attack function.  Swipe the
rod horizontally, kind of like throwing a Frisbee.  You can cast from right
to left or left to right.

Method 2:  Point the tip of the Wii-mote toward the floor (buttons and
battery pack  facing to the right and left of you may be easier than buttons
up, battery pack down) and flick the Wii-mote upwards.

Title: THE X-CATCH
Objective: Use the Rapala X-Rap to catch a fish smaller than 5 pounds
Time Limit: 10 minutes
Unlockable: Rapala X-Rap Subwalk

Unlockable: Men’s character Khaki Shorts, woman’s character Black Jeans

Recommendation: Drive to the nearest fishing spot. Equip a Shallow running
Rapala Original Floater medium, 30 pound line, any rod and reel. Cut the line
on fish that don’t meet the requirements.

Title: MONSTER HUNT, LAKE LANIER
Objective: Catch a monster fish in this lake
Time Limit: 1 hour
Unlockable: RSC Series Casting Rod
Recommendation:  Pull up your tackle and toggle through your fish to make
sure the Monster fish is there.  It will be listed by its name. If not,
change the season and  time of day.  The Monster fish will be indicated by a
blue circle using your GPS or a giant blue fish using the fish finder.

Unlockable: RSC Casting Reel
Recommendation: Pull up your tackle and toggle through your fish to
make sure the Monster fish is there.  It will be listed by its name. If not,
change the season and time of day.  The Monster fish will be indicated by a
blue circle using your GPS or a giant blue fish using the fish finder. If your
Monster fish is not in a fishing spot, your casting ring will turn lime green
when it’s above it (it will be lime green if it’s over a fishing spot
regardless).  When you catch the Monster fish, the lower left fish
information will say its name instead of species, i.e. Dottie the Largemouth
Bass will say Dottie.

Troll your boat until your casting ring is around 45 feet and still green
for an easy catch.

Equip for all: Shallow running Rapala Original Floater medium, 80 pound line.

Title: PERFECT FORM
Objective: Perform 7 consecutive perfect casts by using pitch cast
Time Limit: 8 minutes

Recommendation: How to pitch cast is listed under basic fishing information
at the  beginning of this guide.  Equip your rod and reel with the best
casting precision.

Title: IN BETWEEN
Objective: Catch between 45-47 pounds in total fish weight
Time Limit: 30 minutes
Unlockable: Men’s character Rapala Tournament Shirt 3, woman’s character
Rapala Tournament Shirt 18
Recommendation: Equip a Shallow running Rapala Original Floater, 30 pound
line and drive to the nearest fishing spot.  At the top, above the timer,
is your total fish  weight.  When you get to around 40-ish pounds, lower your
line weight to 6 or 10  pounds.

Tally 45 pounds minus your current fish weight. Tally 47 pounds minus your
current fish weight.

Example:
45 pounds minus 43.3 = 1.7
47 pounds minus 43.3 = 3.7

The figure after the decimal point is not the ounces. It is tenths of a
pound. One  tenth of a pound is 1.6 ounces.  Use the conversion chart below
to figure out how many ounces your target fish should be.

If your fish weight ends in the number on the left, the ounces should be the
number on the right.

0.1=1.6
0.2=3.2
0.3=4.8
0.4=6.4
0.5=8
0.6=9.6
0.7=11.2
0.8=12.8
0.9=14.4

The example fish (1.7 to 3.7) must weigh between 1 pound 11 ounces and 3
pounds 11 ounces. Cut the line on anything out of your target weight.

Title: EVEN CATCHES
Objective: Out of ten fish total, only catch even numbered fish while
cutting the line on odd numbered hooked fish.
Time Limit: none
Unlockable: Storm ThunderBeast
Recommendation:  Equip a Shallow running Rapala Original Floater medium.
Pull up your tackle box and toggle through the fish.  If Striped Bass are
present, use 80 pound line or change the time of day to noon.  Drive to the
nearest fishing spot.  Hook your first fish and release it (fish number 1).
Fully reel in the next one (fish number 2).  Continue this pattern, cutting
the line of fish 3,5,7,9 and catch fish 4,6,8,10.  You will only be reeling
in 5 fish.   Wait to cut the line on your odd numbered fish until you see the
controller icon indicating which way to pull.  If you cut the line too soon,
you’ll have to start over.

Title: 20 DEEP DIVING
Objective: Use any Rapala Deep Diving lures to catch at least 20 fish
Time Limit: 50 minutes
Unlockable: Rapala DT (Dives-to) Sure Set Series
Recommendation: Pull up your tackle and toggle through the fish looking for
Channel Catfish or Chain Pickerel.  If neither fish are there, change your
time of day, evening is best.  Equip a Deep diving Rapala Shad Rap, 30 pound
line and any rod or reel.  Drive to the nearest fishing spot.  Set your
casting ring to around 47 feet.  Utilize Attack and Flip it as much as

change your time of day to morning or noon.  If your time of day is noon,
move to a different fishing spot if the one you’re at is heavy with Bluegill
Sunfish or White Crappie.  6 pounds 1 ounce is too big to qualify, as well as
8 pounds 1 ounce.

Title: SEEING SITES
Objective: Find and cast into 5 different fishing spots
Time Limit: 15 minutes
Unlockable: Ranger 1860 Angler Prototype Wrap
Recommendation: Equip the fastest boat, any equipment.  The fishing spots
are the red circles using your GPS.  Some don’t show up until you are very
near them. Once visible, they will stay like that, preventing the need to
dive near them again, until you leave the lake. Having several visible before
starting is helpful. Stop the boat when you are directly over them. Make sure
your casting ring is green when casting into them.  If it doesn’t register
toward your score, try moving the casting ring a few feet.  Cut the line
immediately after the lure hits the water and you hear a chime.

Time Limit: none
Unlockable: Rapala X-Rap Shad
Recommendation:  Bring your casting ring near your boat, press and hold B

green ring.  Troll up to the circle so that your boat is touching one edge
and set your casting ring to the opposite edge.  It should be about 75 feet.
Shorten the casting ring about 2 feet.

Try to max cast to that 70-ish some odd feet each time.If you decide to keep
a different fish than your first catch, the score resets to zero.  Cutting
the line on your target fish is not a penalty.  Driving to a new green zone
is not a penalty.

Equip a Shallow running Rapala Original Floater, medium and 30 pound line for
your first fish.  After you catch one, equip that fish’s favorite tackle and
try to get at least 3 yellow stars. Utilize the lure technique, Attack and
Flip it bonus as much as possible.

the Monster fish is there.  It will be listed by its name. If not, change the
season and time of day.  The Monster fish will be indicated by a blue circle
using your GPS or a giant blue fish using the fish finder. If your Monster
fish is not in a fishing spot, your casting ring will turn lime green when
it’s above it (it will be lime green if it’s over a fishing spot regardless).
When you catch the Monster fish, the lower left fish information will say
its name instead of species, i.e. Dottie the Largemouth Bass will say Dottie.

Troll your boat until your casting ring is around 45 feet and still green
for an easy catch.

Equip for all: Shallow running Rapala Original Floater medium, 80 pound line.

casting ring set farther than 85 feet
Time Limit: 5 minutes

There are 5 zones total
Time Limit: 40 minutes
Unlockable: Luhr-Jensen Crippled Herring Smash Flash
Recommendation: Equip a Shallow running Rapala Original Floater medium,
30 pound line.
The zones are lime green rings on the surface of the water, found on your
GPS as large blue circles. You have to drive around to find them.  They
will appear right away, you don’t need to drive near them.  Once you catch
4 fish, the ring will disappear and you have to find the next location.
Try to aim your casting ring inside the green circle at 37-47 feet or so.
Don’t waste time trying to line up the boat perfectly.

1st location: drive south until you spot it.
2nd location: drive north, you’ll see it at the northernmost point to the
east.
3rd location: drive straight west until you spot it
4th location: drive to the northernmost point, you’ll spot it in front of
the bridge
5th location: you’ll spot it immediately to the east.

Title: MORE FISH VARIETY
Objective: Catch 4 different species of fish consecutively then catch another
2 fish of a single species consecutively
Time Limit: none
Unlockable: Rapala Crankin’ Rap
Recommendation: There are 4 different species of fish in the lake total, and
a monster fish if you met the requirements. Toggle through your fish and see
what is in the lake. Write them down and cross them off as your catch them,
make a mental note or catch them in the order they appear when you pull up
your tackle box.

Equip a Shallow running Rapala Original Floater medium, 30 pound line. Cast
from your immediate position about 55 feet or so.  If your first fish was not
a Largemouth Bass, equip a Topwater Rapala Skitter Walk medium and 14 pound
line, cast from your immediate position. Re-equip the Shallow running Rapala
Original Floater medium, 30 pound line. Drive to the nearest fishing spot,
stopping to fish at a random location and repeat until you’ve caught all 4
species.  If your last species of the four is a smaller fish, adjust your
lure size and line weight accordingly. For the next half of the challenge,
drive to the nearest fishing spot –unless you’re at one- and catch two of
the same species of fish.

Title: EXPERT ON PERFECTION
Objective: Perform 5 perfect hooks
Time Limit: none
Unlockable: Men’s character Rapala Tournament Shirt 5, woman’s character
Rapala Tournament Shirt 20

Rapala Original Floater, small, and 6 pound line.  Hover your casting ring
over the surface of the water until it turns green, cast 75-plus feet. You
don’t have to reel them in,  just hook them. Missing is not a penalty. Wait
for the onscreen indicator showing you which direction to pull comes on
before you cut the line, or it may not count toward your score.

Title: THE SMALLER CATCH

Time Limit: 10 minutes
Unlockable: Men’s character Rapala Camo Cap, woman’s character Rapala Trucker
Mesh Black Cap

Redear Sunfish.

Title: TRY A BUG
Objective: Use the Trigger X Flappin’ Bug to catch a fish
Time Limit: 10 minutes
Unlockable: Rapala Clackin’ Minnow
Recommendation: Equip the Variable running depth Trigger X Flappin’ Bug,
small, and 6 pound line.  Cast from your immediate position to max distance.
Let the lure sink all the way to the bottom before beginning reeling in.
If the Bug hits a deeper while reeling in, allow it to sink to the bottom
again.  Perform the lure technique to attract fish farther away.

Title: THREE ASSESSMENTS
Objective: Catch a fish between 4-8 pounds, one fish between 9-13 pounds and
one fish between 14-18 pounds in any order.
Time Limit: none
Unlockable: Men’s character Rapala Tournament Shirt 6, woman’s character
Rapala Tournament Shirt 21
Recommendation:

Method 1: Equip a Shallow running Rapala Original Floater medium, 30 pound
line. Cast from your immediate location to max distance off the left, front
and right sides of your boat.  Drive to nearby fishing spots in shallow and
deep water until you catch them all.  Catching a fish outside of the weight
limit or one in a weight category you have already caught one is not a
penalty, your score will not reset to zero.

Method 2: Change season and time to spring in the evening and use Annure the
Redear Sunfish as the 9-13 pound fish. Use method one to catch the other two.

Title: MORE DECISIONS, DECISIONS

this spring in the morning.

---------------------------LAKE ERIE CHALLENGES-----------------------

*MONSTER FISH TRICK: Blue indicator will be visible immediately to the
right.  Drive forward and turn right, in between the first two docks. Use
Jewel the Silver Carp sighted this summer at noon for the Monster Hunt and
Bodybuilding challenges.  Use Piton the Northern Snakehead sighted this
autumn in the morning for the Correct Assessment II challenge.

Fish Species: Largemouth Bass, Rainbow Trout-Steelhead, Lake Trout,
Muskellunge, White Perch, American Eel, Arctic Grayling, King (Chinook)
Salmon, Silver Carp, Walleye

SUMMER AND AUTUMN
Morning: Walleye, Largemouth Bass, Muskellunge, Silver Carp
Noon: Largemouth Bass, Rainbow Trout-Steelhead, American Eel, Lake Trout
Evening: Arctic Grayling, Largemouth Bass, King (Chinook) Salmon, White
Perch

Title: BODYBUILDING
Objective: Catch more than 300 pounds of fish
Time Limit: 1 hour
Unlockable: Rapala Super Shad Rap
Recommendation:  Equip a Shallow running Rapala Original Floater medium,
80 pound line for all methods.  Set the casting ring to about 47 feet and
make sure it’s green when over Monster fish or fishing spots.

Method 1:  Catch Jewel the Silver Carp sighted this summer at noon for all
300 pounds. Use the Monster fish trick until she appears at the first
location, to the immediate right of the default boat position.  For the
second location, drive out of the marina to the west, past the strips of
land. Go north, near the northern most ship and The Smallest Catch challenge
ring. She is between the first and second northernmost ship.  Third,
go south.  There are 5 ships along this barrier. She is next to the fifth
ship, the one furthest south.

Method 2: Attract Muskellunge in the morning, Lake Trout at noon or King
(Chinook) Salmon in the evening.

Title: DOUBLE MARKSMAN
Objective: Hit the casting ring after it has shrunk below 30 inches 2 times
Time Limit: None
Unlockable: Terminator T-1 Series Titanium Spinnerbait
Recommendation: Bring your casting ring near your boat, press and hold B to
shrink it. When it turns red it is 30 inches or less. Equip rod and reel
with best casting precision and move your casting ring out to max distance
or where you can cast consistently. Missing is not a penalty.

Title: KROC HUNT
Objective: Use the Luhr-Jensen Krococile SureSet to catch a fish
Time Limit: 10 minutes
Unlockable: Rapala Shad Rap RS
Recommendation: Equip the Variable running depth Luhr-Jensen Krococile
SureSet medium and 30 pound line, 80 for King (Chinook) Salmon.
Cast 70 feet from your immediate location. Attract these fish: morning
Muskellunge, noon Lake Trout, evening Chinook.

Title: CORRECT ASSESSMENT II
Objective: Hook and catch a fish between 30-40 pounds
Time Limit: 15 minutes
Unlockable:  Men’s character Rapala Tournament Shirt 8, women’s character
Rapala Tournament Shirt 23
Recommendation: Equip a Shallow running Rapala Original Floater medium, 80
pound line, any rod and reel for both methods.

Method 1: Use the Monster fish trick to catch Piton the Northern Snakehead
sighted this autumn in the morning.

Method 2: Cast from your immediate location to max distance.  Move to the
nearest  fishing spot if you reel in without a bite from the target fish.

Title: 20 TOPWATER
Objective: Use any topwater lure to catch 20 fish
Time Limit: 30 minutes
Unlockable: Rapala Twitchin’ Rap
Recommendation: Equip the Topwater lure you have unlocked that gives
Largemouth Bass the most stars, small, and 14 pound line.

Location 1: From the challenge ring, drive south until you see a south
entrance into a marina. There is a fishing spot to the east of the
marina entrance along the wall.  There is a tree, a tower and some tall
grass under the tree. Try to get your casting ring to around 60 feet from
you to the wall and still green. You’ll have to drive the boat closer
because you can’t troll when your casting ring is shorter than max distance.
Fish until you no longer get a bite and nothing follows your lure.

Location 2: Get back in your boat, use the GPS, and drive north. There is a
land barrier with street lamps on it.  Do not pass under the bridges and
continue north.  The land barrier will angle and you’ll see a line of trees.
In the corner where the  land barrier meets the line of trees are two trees
in the water with tall grass  underneath them and a red fishing spot.
Get out to fish and troll the boat as close  to the grass as you can, and
pull back your casting ring to about 80 feet. You may
need to occasionally pitch cast. Fish until you no longer get a bite and
nothing  follows your lure, and then go to next step if you haven’t caught
20.

Get back in the boat and turn on your GPS, accelerate for 2 seconds and
brake. Get out to fish, cast off the front of your boat and set your casting
ring to around 50 feet. If you didn’t get a bite and no fish were following
the lure by 35 feet, cut the line, get in the boat and accelerate for 2
seconds and brake. Get out, cast and repeat. Utilize Attack and Flip it bonus
as much as possible.  If you can’t fill the Attack  bar twice by the time you
catch the fish, choose Flip it over Attack.

Title: THE SMALLEST CATCH
Objective: Use any Rapala lure to catch a fish smaller than 3 pounds
Time Limit: 10 minutes
Unlockable: Rapala DT (Dives-to) Flat Series
Recommendation:  Equip a Shallow running Rapala Original Floater small, 6
pound line. Cast out about 47 feet from your immediate location. Cut the line
on anything larger than 3 pounds 1 ounces.

Title: SEEING LOTS OF SITES
Objective: Find and cast into 8 different fishing spots
Time Limit: 15 minutes
Unlockable: Luhr-Jensen Kwikfish Xtreme SureSet
Recommendation:  Equip the fastest boat, any equipment.  The fishing spots
are the red circles using your GPS.  Some don’t show up until you are very
near them. Once visible, they will stay like that, preventing the need to
dive near them again, until you leave the lake. Having several visible
before starting is helpful. Stop the boat when you are directly over them.
Make sure your casting ring is green when casting into them.  If it doesn’t
register toward your score, try moving the casting ring a few feet.  Cut the
line immediately after the lure hits the water and you hear a chime.

Title: MONSTER HUNT, LAKE ERIE
Objective: Catch a monster fish in this lake
Time Limit: 1 hour
Unlockable: Ranger 1860 Angler Color Option C
Recommendation: Pull up your tackle and toggle through your fish to make
sure the Monster fish is there.  It will be listed by its name. If not,
change the season and  time of day.  The Monster fish will be indicated by a
blue circle using your GPS or a giant blue fish using the fish finder. If your
Monster fish is not in a fishing spot, your casting ring will turn lime green
when it’s above it (it will be lime green if it’s over a fishing spot
regardless).

When you catch the Monster fish, the lower left fish information will say
its name  instead of species, i.e. Dottie the Largemouth Bass will say
Dottie.

Troll your boat until your casting ring is around 45 feet and still green for
an easy catch.

Equip for all: Shallow running Rapala Original Floater medium, 80 pound line.

Monster Sightings:

Icy the Arctic Grayling sighted this summer in the morning. Weight 6 pounds
13 ounces.

Golden the Chain Pickerel sighted last autumn in the evening. Weight 20
pounds 6  ounces.

Piton the Northern Snakehead sighted this autumn in the morning. Weight 39
pounds 6 ounces.

Jewel the Silver Carp sighted this summer at noon.  Weight 114 pounds 12
ounces.

Headless the Cutthroat Trout sighted this summer in the evening. Weight 66
pounds 1 ounce.

Title: STRENGTH IN HUGE NUMBERS
Objective: Catch 20 fish of the same species consecutively in any of the
locations  specified on the map
Time Limit: none
Unlockable: Sun Glasses 4
Recommendation: When you accept the challenge the spots on the map, using
your GPS, are represented by blue dots and on the water surface is a lime
green ring. Equip a Topwater Rapala Skitter Walk, small, 6 pound line,
attracting Largemouth Bass.  Set your boat at one edge of the green zone
and your casting ring at the opposite edge, about 75 feet.  Pull your
casting ring closer about 2 feet.  When reeling in using a Topwater lure,
you won’t see the lime green zone.  You may drive to different green zones
without penalty.

-------------------------LAKE MEAD CHALLENGES-----------------------

*MONSTER FISH TRICK:  The blue indicator is not visible immediately, you
must  drive near it. Drive southeast from the default boat position to the
easternmost corner of this branch. Set the date and time to summer in the
evening for Jack the Northern Pike.  Use him for the Final Catch, Monster
Hunt and Ultimate Decision, Decisions challenges.

Fish Species: Black Crappie, Brown Bullhead Catfish, Channel Catfish,
Flathead Catfish, Largemouth Bass, Rainbow Trout – Steelhead, smallmouth
Bass, Striped Bass, White Crappie

SPRING AND SUMMER
Morning: Walleye, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Brown Bullhead Catfish
Noon: Largemouth Bass, Rainbow Trout-Steelhead, Black Crappie, White Crappie
Evening: Flathead Catfish, Channel Catfish, Largemouth Bass, Striped Bass

Title: FISHING SPOT FRIEND
Objective:  Cast and catch 1 fish in each of the map’s populated fishing
spots
Time Limit: 50 minutes
Unlockable: Trigger X Minnow
Recommendation: Equip a Shallow running Rapala Original Floater, medium, 30
pound line and the fastest boat. Before activating this challenge, drive south
of the challenge ring and drive around the perimeter of the entire lake until
all of the fishing spots along the bank are visible.  When you get back to
the challenge ring, activate it.  The map’s populated fishing spots are the
normal red circles on the GPS. There are slightly more than 18 fishing spots,
adding a little room for error.  They don’t disappear after you’ve caught a
fish in them.  Stop your boat directly when it’s directly over the fishing
spots and make sure your casting ring is green.  Try to set the casting ring
to 47-60 feet.  Verify that your catch is recorded in the score above the
timer before moving to the next fishing spot.  If not, move the casting
ring a few feet.

You’re going to drive in a zigzag pattern starting from the southwest, moving
east, stopping at all the fishing spots on the way. Go to the fishing spot
furthest south and west.  Catch a fish in the first fishing spot, get in the
boat and make your way east, stopping at all the fishing spots on the way.
When you get to the east bank, drive north until the south-most fishing spot
is at the bottom of the GPS. Drive west, hitting all the fishing spots on the
way and repeat.

If you have a hard time, pull up the Fish-o-pedia, North American Lakes, and
then Lake Erie.  Draw a rough sketch of a map of the Lake, drive around the
lake making circles on your drawing of the fishing spots.  Number them 1-18.

Title: ULTIMATE DECISIONS, DECISIONS
Objective: Cut the line when fighting a fish that weighs more than 40 pounds
Time Limit: none
Unlockable: Rapala Clackin’ Crank
Recommendation: Equip a Shallow running Rapala Original Floater, medium,
and 80 pound line.

Method 1:  Best time of day is evening. Drive to the nearest fishing spot,
make sure  the casting ring is green. Move to a different fishing spot if
unsuccessful.

Method 2: Cut the line on any Monster fish.

Title: MONSTER HUNT, LAKE MEAD
Objective: Catch a Monster fish in this lake
Time Limit: 1 hour
Unlockable: Men’s character The Arrrr, women’s character Headband
Recommendation: Pull up your tackle and toggle through your fish to make
sure the Monster fish is there.  It will be listed by its name. If not,
change the season and time of day.  The Monster fish will be indicated by a
blue circle using your GPS or a giant blue fish using the fish finder.

Bass will say Dottie.

Troll your boat until your casting ring is around 45 feet and still green for
an easy catch.

Equip for all: Shallow running Rapala Original Floater medium, 80 pound line.

Monster Sightings:

Jack the Northern Pike sighted last summer in the evening. Weight 93 pounds
13 ounces.

Murphy the Muskellunge sighted this summer in the morning. Weight 113 pounds.

4 ounces.

Title:  THE UPPER LIMIT
Objective: Catch 4 different fish with a total weight of less than 20 pounds
Time Limit: 15 minutes
Unlockable: Storm Kickin’ Stick
Recommendation: Best time of day is noon. Equip a Shallow running Rapala
Original Floater, small, and 6 pound line.  Cast from your immediate
position.  Set the casting ring out to 70 feet and fish from the left,
front and right sides of your boat.  You must catch four different fish
species, not four fish total.  Pull up your tackle box and toggle through
the fish, write them down or make a mental note.  If you catch the same
species twice, it will tally the weight toward your total. If one of your
first three fish was not a Largemouth Bass, equip any topwater lure to reduce
the amount of other fish species attracted to your lure.

Title: TARGET PRACTICE, LAKE MEAD
Objective: Cast into more than 20 rings in the time limit
Time Limit: 7 minutes
Unlockable: Ranger Z521 Comanche 2008 Wrap
Recommendation: Equip rod and reel with best casting precision.  Line your
pole up with the right edge of the casting ring and use overhead casting.

Title: GOOD VIBES
Objective: Catch a fish using the Blue Fox Classic Vibrax
Time Limit: 10 minutes
Unlockable: Ranger Z521 Comanche 2007 Wrap
Recommendation: Equip the Variable running depth Blue Fox Classic Vibrax
medium and 30 pound line, any rod and reel. Cast right from where you’re at.

Title: RAPALA RUN
Objective: Catch 5 fish using 5 different Rapala Lures
Time Limit: none
Unlockable: Rapala DT Thug
Recommendation:  Listed below are the 5 default Rapala lures you get at
the beginning of a new game. Use a small size and 10 pound line for each.
Fish from the closest fishing spots to the challenge ring, Largemouth Bass
will bite on them all.

Deep diving:
1.  Rapala Shad Rap

Shallow running:
2. Rapala Original Floater
3. Rapala Husky Jerk

Topwater:
4. Rapala Skitter Walk

Variable Running depth:
5. Rapala Clackin’ Rap

Title: THE IMPOSSIBLE DEAL
Objective: Catch 30 fish
Time Limit: 1 hour
Unlockable: Ranger 621V5 Fisherman 2009 Wrap
Recommendation: Equip the Shallow running Rapala Original Floater, small,
and a rod and reel with the shortest casting distance, 10 pound line. Drive
to the nearest fishing spot.  Initiate Attack and Flip it as much as
possible. Move to a new fishing spot if you reel in with no bite and nothing
following your lure.

You need to reel in a fish every 2 minutes.  Set the casting ring to around
45 feet.   Most fish won’t bit on your lure for 15 seconds after it’s in the
water. That equates  to 9 feet if you’re constantly reeling in.  If the fish
is hooked within 33 feet of  the boat, it’s going to drag the line out to 34
feet regardless of how close to the  boat it was hooked. At 47 feet out, I
should have a fish hooked by 38 feet, it won’t  drag the line out and it
gives a little leeway.  Make sure the casting ring is green  when casting
into a fishing spot.

Title: FINAL CATCH
Objective: Catch a fish heavier than 50 pounds
Time Limit: 1 hour
Unlockable: Men’s character The 10-Gallon, women’s character Rapala Black
Visor

and 80 pound line.

Method 1:  Best time of day is evening. Drive to the nearest fishing spot,
make sure  the casting ring is green. Move to a different fishing spot if
unsuccessful.

Method 2: Use Jack the Northern Pike sighted last summer in the evening,
Murphy the Muskellunge sighted this summer in the morning or Blaze the
Striped Bass sighted last spring in the morning.

Title: A VERY SPECIFIC TARGET
Objective: Catch 2 fish between 5-10 pounds and 2 fish between 11-15 pounds
in any order
Time Limit: none
Unlockable: Men’s character Gym Pants, woman’s character Camo Capris
Recommendation: Best time of day is evening. Equip a Shallow running Rapala
Original Floater, medium, and 30 pound line. Cast to max distance from your
immediate position then move to a nearby fishing spot.

Title: ULTIMATE MARKSMAN
Objective: Hit the casting ring after it has shrunk below 30 inches 5 times
Time Limit: none
Unlockable: Trigger X Lizard
Recommendation:  Bring your casting ring near your boat, press and hold B to
shrink it.  When it turns red it is 30 inches or less. Equip rod and reel
with best casting precision and move your casting ring out to max distance
or where you can cast consistently. Missing is not a penalty.

----------MONSTER FISH-----------------

If you are doing a free fishing challenge and get a message that says
you have to
unlock a monster fish for this lake, you haven’t met the requirements.
You must have 1. caught a fish of the species you’re going for (in any lake,
tournament or free fishing, i.e. you must have caught a Largemouth Bass to
unlock Dottie the Largemouth Bass) or 2. check your Fish-o-pedia under North
American Freshwater Lakes and scroll down the description information,
monster sightings are at the bottom. Write down or make a mental note of
the season and time of day (it varies by game).  Restart Free Fishing and
change the season and time of day to match the monster sighting information.
To see if you have unlocked a Monster fish, go to the main menu, select
Extras then Unlockables.  Scroll down to the Monster fish information if
there is a red padlock to the left of the fish name, you haven’t caught that
species yet.

While in the lake of your target Monster fish, pull up your tackle and
toggle through your fish to make sure the Monster fish is there.  Monster
fish will be represented by a blue circle using the GPS or a giant blue fish
using the fish finder.

It will be in a random location when you enter the lake.
You may have to drive around every inch of the lake since sometimes the
fish indicators don’t show up until you’re right on top of them.  Once
caught, it will move to a new location and another blue indicator will mark
it.

If your Monster fish is not in a fishing spot, your casting ring will turn
lime green when it’s above it (it will be lime green if it’s over a fishing
spot regardless).   When you hook the Monster fish, the lower left fish
information will say its name  instead of species, i.e. Dottie the Largemouth
Bass will say Dottie.  Troll your boat  until your casting ring is around 45
feet and still green for an easy catch.

If doing the Monster Hunt Challenge, you will only be rewarded for the first
Monster fish you catch.  Catching the rest rewards nothing.

There are 30 Monster fish, one for each type of fish in the game.  The fish
appear in  the monster sightings at the beginning of a new game, even if you
haven’t caught that fish type.

MINI GUIDE TO CATCHING ALL 30 FISH SPECIES AND MONSTER FISH
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are 30 fish species and 30 Monster fish, one for each species.
There will be no more than four fish species present at one time during
Free Fishing, and one Monster fish. Adjust the time of day to find new
fish species, or time of day and season for Monster fish.  There are seven
lakes. Each lake has a difficulty level.  Lake Minnetonka is the easiest and
gets progressively harder as you scroll toward Lake Mead.  Weather and reel
type are a matter of preference.  Season only matters to Monster fish.

During Free Fishing, equip a Shallow running Rapala Original Floater medium
and 30 pound line (unlock tier 3 of Rookie Season) unless otherwise
specified, any rod and reel.  Drive to the nearest fishing spot using the
GPS.

Some fishing spots are prevalent with a certain fish species than others,
you may have to move.  Try fishing spots in the middle of the lake as well
as along the bank and in high grass.
