Throughout the Ace Attorney game series, you are given the opportunity to
present evidence to people during the "Investigation" sections of the game.
Presenting items to people generally makes them respond in one of four ways:
1. The item is removed from your inventory
2. The plot advances in such a way that you will be unable to present more
items to that person at that point in time.
3. A reaction specifically tailored for that person being presented with that
item.
4. A generic response specifically reserved for that person for items
considered irrelevent to this character at this time (or, in the case
of floor plans, all characters at all times).
When I personally play these games, I generally want to see all of the
responses of the third variety, while avoiding responses 1 and 2 until I'm
ready, and only seeing response 4 a single time.
Thus, I kept track of each characters response to help in future playthroughs
of the game.
Special Items refers to items that will either
A. Be removed from your inventory upon presentation
B. Advance the plot in such a way that you will be unable to present more items
to the person at that point in time.
C. Causes any other evidence to become unavailable for presenting to any person
for any other reason.

* SPECIAL NOTES *
*****************
1. Not a single person in the game has a custom reaction to floor plans or maps
of any kind. Thus, they are not listed.
2. Furthermore, no one has a custom reaction to the Magatama, with two
exceptions:
A. Investigation Part One of Case Two ("Reunion, and Turnabout").
B. When a person has Psyche-Locks.
Therefore, aside from Investigation Part One of Case Two, the Magatama is not
listed in either of the reaction lists.
3. There are several occasions where two or more different items provoke the
same custom reaction. In these situations, the two items that provoke the same
text IN THAT CONVERSATION ONLY will be marked with an asterisk (*). In the
event that there is more than one set of items that have matching reactions,
more asterisks will be used, with * used for the first set, ** used for the
second set, etc.
4. In general, I tend to present evidence prior to using the "Talk" option, as
some characters will leave as soon as you discuss all the available topics.
This FAQ operates under the assumption that you will do the same.
5. Occasionally, the assumption in the above point makes for some odd
dialogue. For instance, in Case 2, selecting the talk option "The Victim"
after presenting "Newspaper Clipping 1" will cause Gumshoe to ask if you have a
copy of an article that you just showed him. In these cases, I will make a note
on the item suggesting when to show it for better dialogue flow. However, it is
just a suggestion, and is not required for getting the custom dialogue.

Please check all the questions before sending me an e-mail.
Q. Why does this FAQ exist? The Game Script by Xcarvenger not only lists the
items and profiles, but the reactions as well! This FAQ seems to be not only
redundant, but less useful.
A. I personally prefer to see the reactions in-game. While the text in
Xcarvenger's FAQ is the same as the text in the game, the Game Script has
the unfortunate limitation of not being able to show us the sprite
animations, or let us listen to any sound effect that occur. I thought maybe
others might feel the same.
Q. Every time I present [Item/Profile] to [Character], they react the same way,
all through the case. It's a custom reaction, but it's the *same* custom
reaction as last time, and the repetition is annoying. Could you mark the
items that do this?
A. I agree, it is annoying. Unfortunately, it didn't occur to me to do anything
about it until I was nearly finished with the final case. The next time I
play the game (which will likely be when the 3DS re-release comes out), I'll
go through and mark these items/profiles.
Q. What kind of reaction you get from the Map/Floor Plan for [Character]?
A. As I said in the beginning of the FAQ, they all get default reactions, from
every character. I saw no point in listing something if it was ALWAYS going
provide a Default Reaction. If you can come up with a single instance where
someone has a custom reaction to it, I will list it in the appropriate place
throughout the FAQ.
Q. What kind of reaction you get from the Magatama for [Character]?
A. Well, that depends on where you are in the game.
1. If they have Psyche-Locks, Phoenix will try to break them.
2. If you're in Investigation Part One of Case Two, it should be listed
in the appropriate section.
3. If neither of the above apply, they have the default reaction.
As I mentioned in the beginning of the FAQ, it seems redundant to list the
magatama under "Default Item Reaction" for every section of the game aside
from that one section. While it could be argued that I should list it under
"Custom Item Reactions" for people with Psyche-Locks, I feel that this is
something that falls under "Walkthrough" territory. Aside from that, the
game makes it *rather obvious* when you need to present it to someone.
Q. Why do you bother listing the items that get a default reaction?
A. So that I can be sure that I've checked ALL the items. If there's an item
that isn't listed under "Custom Reactions" or "Default Reactions," then
there's a chance that I forgot to present that item to that person at that
time. Occasionally, there is the possibility that the character is, for
whatever reason, no longer available to talk to after receiving that item.
Either way, this gives you the opportunity to double-check my work, if you
wish to do so.
Q. I talked to Character A, but Character B did not show up, even though you
list talking to Character A as the triggering event. Why is that?
A. Well, we have two possibilities:
1. You need to present specific evidence before certain topics in the
"Talk" menu appear, and then select all of those options.
2. I made a mistake.
Please double-check that Possibility 1 is not the case. If all else fails,
use an actual walkthrough. If it is Possibility 2, please let me know.
Q. [Character] isn't appearing, despite doing the triggering event. Why?
A. Well, first of all, if the triggering event is listed as having talked to
a different character, please check the previous question. Otherwise, please
double-check that you have actually done the triggering event. If you still
have problems, double-check a walkthrough. Please let me know if you find a
mistake.
Q. Did you know that [Item/Profile] isn't listed/is in the wrong category?
A. If this involves floor plans, maps, or the Magatama, then yes, I do know.
Please see the first question. Otherwise, please let me know!
Q. Why is [Character] listed under this name instead of their real name?
A. I listed each character by the name they are listed under in the Court
Record. Thus, for example, even though we know Wendy Oldbag's name, and even
though "Oldbag" appears in her little name-box when she speaks, I still list
her as "Security Lady" because that's what the Court Record has her listed
as.
Q. May I host this on my web site?
A. Yes, under the following conditions:
1. This FAQ is reproduced in full with no omissions or edits.
2. You claim responsibility for keeping this FAQ up to date on your web
site.
Q. Is this the most recent version of this FAQ?
A. If you are reading this on gamefaqs.com, then yes! Otherwise, I have no way
of knowing if it's up to date, and I am likely unable to update it myself.
If it's out of date, you will have to take it up with the owner of the web
