Nodame Cantabile Dream Orchestra FAQ

All the text and translations are my own. This took me a lot of
time to put together, especially with the title translations, so
please credit me if you’re going to copy any of this information.
Greetings fellow Wii fans, this is a basic FAQ that will hopefully
help you through this game if you can’t read Japanese very well.
It’s not intended as a walkthrough by any means, just a general
explanation of what to do along with translations of certain music
terms the game uses as well as translations of the titles in the
solo play and orchestra play listings. This is the first FAQ I’ve
ever written, so please forgive my newbie-ness. Since no one else
has written one yet and people on the forum were asking about
the game, I decided I’d try to help out in my own nerdy way.
Hopefully it’ll be of some help.

Orchestra is a revolutionary form of classical music
entertainment that puts your whole body into the fun. Chiaki is
the conductor, and Mongoose is on piano? No, naturally it’s
Nodame on piano. With Nodame Cantabile you can enjoy
performing beautiful classical music on your Wii. This game is
packed with over 50 songs! In orchestra mode you can play with
up to 4 people! There are also mini games and an epic original
story! You can perform music on 8 different musical instruments
in all.

ストーリー Story Mode (Blue Icon):
The story mode is where you need to start in order to unlock all
the songs and other modes. In the story you become the manager
of the Rising Star Orchestra and control all of the characters
when they play their beautiful (or not so beautiful if you mess up)
music. If you press ‘A’ at any point during the story mode, it’ll
start asking you to press ‘A’ again to continue after each section of
text. This is a good idea if you can’t read Japanese at the speed at
which the story normally appears. If you press ‘B’ at any point
during the story, it will bring you to a menu screen. If you click
the left button on the screen, it will take you directly to the
performance without making you sit through the story. If you
click the right button, it will quit story mode. If you wish to return
to the story, press ‘B’ again.
When you get to the actual game, a white window with text may
pop up. This means you either need to attach or remove the
nunchaku. When you’ve done that, you’ll go to the red curtains
where you can press ‘1’ to read the instructions or press ‘A’ to go
directly to the game. For more details on using the various
instruments, check out the instruments section.
When the game is finished, the story will continue with variations
depending on how good or bad you did. At the end of a positive
story outcome, a white window with text will pop up telling you
what you just unlocked. From there you can click the left button
to continue to the next story, or press the right one to quit story
mode. If you failed, then the left button will let you retry that
song and the right one will once again let you quit story mode.
There are 40 lessons in story mode. When you complete the first
run, you’ll then be able to do a 2nd run to unlock even more parts
of the game.
ストーリーアルバム Story Album (Purple Icon):
This allows you to review whichever lesson you want to once
you’ve completed it.
ソロプレイ Solo Play (Green Icon):
You can play various songs on specific instruments in this mode.
These can be unlocked in story mode as well as by playing other
solo songs from this mode. Always play the songs that are labled
‘NEW’ because these will unlock other songs as well as items in
the gallery. You don’t need to pass the song in order to unlock
other items; you simply need to play through it once.
In the menu select you can press ‘1’ and ‘2’ to cycle through the
various instruments you can play on. Press ‘A’ to select a song or
‘B’ to exit.
When a song is selected, you will be given a screen with two
options. The left is ‘normal’ and the right is ‘difficult.’
Check the solo play track listing for translations of the tracks.
オーケストラ Orchestra (Orange Icon):
In this mode you can play the songs with up to 4 people. You can
also play these alone and there are certain song and instrument
combinations that you can only play in this mode.
The first menu you will come to is to set the number of players.
The top 4 buttons let you play with the corresponding number of
players. The bottom button lets you add Wii remotes. If you have
a remote that isn’t synced up, you will need to use this option.
Press the button and then simultaneously press the ‘1’ and ‘2’
buttons on the remote you want to play on and then press the
button to add them.
Once you’ve selected the number of players you can select which
song you want to play. Once that is selected, you’ll be given a list
of playable instruments. When you select an instrument, it will
then prompt you as to whether or not you want to have an
explanation for that particular mode. When that’s done, press ‘A’
and it will ask you if you’re ready to play. Press the top one for
‘yes’ and the bottom one for ‘no.’

track listing.

This mode allows you to view information on songs, artists, and
Nodame characters. All of this needs to be unlocked via story
mode and solo play.
Menu items include the following.
楽曲紹介 Song Introduction ? Click on a song to listen to it and
get information on it (assuming you can read Japanese).
作曲家紹介 Artist Introduction
登場人物紹介 Appearing Characters Introduction
プリごろ太 Purigorota Mini Game
This is a mini game where you pilot a spaceship on the way back
to Earth. There’s only one level and you simply need to avoid
obstacles and collect the stars to regain your ship energy. Lift
the Wii remote up and down to move in that respective direction
and press ‘A’ to get a speed boost.
のだめと千秋の音楽レッスン Nodame & Chiaki’s Music Lesson
This is a mini-game where you need to answer music related
questions.
のだめと一緒におなら体操 Farting Exercises With Nodame
This is a humorously bizarre mini-game where you need to follow
the actions of the stick figure along with the music by using your
Wii remote and nunchaku. You either need to swing it to the side
or flick it up and down. When you beat the game twice, you can
then play this game with Chiaki singing it, and it will be more
difficult.

Performances: During the performance you will see notes
scrolling to the left and depending on the instrument you will
need to perform various actions when they reach the red bar. If
your timing and/or swipe strength is perfect, you’ll get a red ブラ
ボー (Bravo) If the timing or swipe strength isn’t quite right,
you’ll get a yellow グッド (Good). If your timing is completely off,
you’ll get a blue バッド (Bad). As you get goods and bravos the
keyboard meter on the left will fill up. You need to at least get it
to the blinking key to pass. When you’ve finished you’ll get your
score, number of bravos, goods, bads, and best combo along with
the final outcome on top.

Instruments:
指揮 Baton (Blue Icon)
Playable Characters: Chiaki Shin’ichi, Franz von Stresemann,
Ookouchi Mamoru, Matsuda Yukihisa
You simply need to swing the remote to the music. When things
are moving fast, you’ll need to make sure not to make any extra
movements or it will throw off your timing. For instance, if
you’re preparing for a hard swing the game may think the
preparation strike is the real thing and give you a ‘bad’ score on
that note. In order to counter this, try to swing the remote back
and forth like you’re really conducting instead of just shaking it
and you’ll get better scores on hard mode.
Controls: (Wii Remote)
Piano (p): Swing the Wii remote lightly.
Note: Swing the Wii remote with regular strength.
Forte (f): Swing the Wii remote hard.
ティンパニー Timpani (Green Icon)
Playable Character: Okuyama Masumi
Use the Wii remote and nunchaku like drumsticks in order to
play the timpani. Control is simple since you can use either the
Wii remote or the nunchaku for any given note, but you should get
used to using both so that you can hit all of the notes that are
close together in the difficult mode.
Controls: (Wii Remote & nunchaku)
Note: Swipe the Wii remote or nunchaku regularly.
Forte (f): Swipe the Wii remote or nunchaku hard.
Connected notes: Make small quick hits quickly with the Wii
remote or nunchaku.
Target: Continue hitting until the counter goes to 0.
ピアノ Piano (Purple Icon)
Playable Characters: Nodame Megumi, Chiaki Shin’ichi
The piano is the most complicated instrument in the game. You
need to shake as well as button press. Since it’s hard to switch, it’s
usually best to use one hand for button pressing and the other
hand to shake when you need to until you get to harder songs
where you need both controllers in order to hit close notes.
Controls: (Wii remote & nunchaku)
Note: Press B or Z
Connected Note: Continue hitting B or Z over and over
Piano (p): Lightly swing the Wii remote or nunchaku
Forte (f): Swing the Wii remote or nunchaku hard.
ヴァイオリン / チェロ Violin / Cello (Red Icon)
Playable Characters: (Violin) Mine Ryuutarou, Miki Kiyora,
Takahashi Noriyuki (Cello) Kikuchi Tooru
In this mode you need to swing the Wii remote while holding Z.
It’s best to just hold down Z for the most part and swing the Wii
remote when you need to. I’ve found it’s easier to swing up and
down instead of playing it like a real instrument. Once again, you
need to make sure not to make any unnecessary movements on
hard mode.
Controls: (Wii remote & nunchaku)
Note: Swing the Wii remote while pressing Z
Connected note: Lightly swing the Wii remote over and over while
pressing Z.
Note followed by box: Swing the Wii remote at the start and hold
down Z for the entire box.

The wind instruments are the easiest in the game. The game
doesn’t care which button you use, though in hard mode you may
occasionally see notes so close together than you’ll need to use
more than one button in order to hit the notes fast enough.
Make sure to keep the button pressed for the full length of the
boxes as well or you won’t get the ‘bravo.’
