Version 2.0 (more bowgun armor sets to be added in next update)

===========================================================
As a goal of mine, a good set should accomodate a variety of Talismans.
However sometimes one or two very rare Talismans are needed to make
a very good set.
Also, keep in mind that there aren't really any Armor Skills that
benefit Longswords and Switch Axes more than another weapon. For those
weapons I suggest all-purpose skills such as Sharpness +1, High Grade
Earplugs, and Element Attack UP.
**Remember you can use Ctrl+F to find your desired armor skill(s). Also
try using Ctrl+f for the words "HIGHLY CUSTOMIZABLE"
All Armor Skills are classified as A, B, or C-skills. When it comes to
Talismans, A-skills can have a maximum of +4 points (or +3 with 1-slot).
B-skills can be up to +7 with 2-slots, and C-skills can be up
to +10 with 2-slots.
Here is a list showing which skills are considered what.

At times it will be necessary to use an armor piece that grants
Torso UP. One Torso UP will double the points in the Chest piece.
Two will triple it and three will quadruple it. For simplicity I will just
say "Torso UP" for the armor piece in the sets. Here is a list of
equipment pieces that have Torso UP:
General Purpose Sets [ SETS1 ]
Great Greatsword Sets [ SETS2 ]
Hammer Sets [ SETS3 ]
Lance and SnS Sets [ SETS4 ]
Specific Use Sets [ SETS5 ]
Bowgun Sets [ SETS6 ]
HR31-40 Sets [ SETS7 ]
Rare Sets [ RARE1 ]
**You may take notice that there are not headings for Switch Axe and
Longsword sets. This is because while they are not bad weapons, there
are no armor skills that benefit solely SA or LS. I suggest you use one
of the General Purpose sets for these weapons. Try using one of the many
sets labeled, HIGHLY CUSTOMIZABLE, and come up with something that
fits your playing style.
**Remember you can use Ctrl+F to find your desired armor skill(s). Also
try using Ctrl+f for the words "HIGHLY CUSTOMIZABLE"
Decorations: Variable. 1 Handicraft jewel must be placed in the
Weapon or Talisman. Other than that you have 8-slots to play
around with to get any B-skill you want. I would suggest Crit Draw for
Greatswords, Focus for Hammers, Guard +1/2 for Lance, and Element Atk UP
or Status Atk UP for Sword and Shield. Lots of choices here.
This is probably my favorite HR51+ set. Good C-skill charms to hunt for
are Speed Setup, Anti-Theft, and Perception. NOTE: If you choose
Punishing Draw as your custom skill you WILL have Blunt Edge this set.
That is because the Punish Draw decorations give negatives to
sharpness that the set can't afford. It's easy enough to get Evade +2
on this set too; all you need is at least +7 Evasion in the Talisman.
Lots of stuff you can do here. Grab a 3-slot Talisman, 1-slot Weapon
and a Jaggi Mask to gem in Great Luck. Or use your favorite earring.
NOTE: If the monster only requires Earplugs, switch the Legs out for
Vangis Greaves. This reduces HGE to Earplugs, but it nets you an
extra 3-slots to play with.
Decorations: 2 Razor Jewels (1 in Chest), 1 Stonewall Jewel
This set gets you Guard +2 and Razor Sharp (the only good skills from
Agnaktor+) without using a helmet or a talisman. It also has an unused
3-slot Arm Piece. Grab a good charm, your favorite Lance, a Helmet
(earrings are nice for this), and see what you can come up with!
One of my personal favorite things to do with this set is use
Sabertooth (G), a Grace Earring, and a Perception +10 Talisman. Next, gem
in a 5-slot skill like Divine Blessing. This gets you Guard +2, Razor Sharp,
Divine Blessing, Wide Range +2, and Capture Guru. Now go do the
Double Diablos Event quest.
Much like the set above, but geared towards those favoring Evasion.
Works great with just about any weapon.
____________________________________________________________
The Ultimate Capture Set
Capture Guru, Capture Expert, Great Luck, Focus, (Ice Res +10)
____________________________________________________________
At least +10 Perception is needed between Weapon slots and the Talisman.
If you find yourself with an extra slot, get Ice Res +10.
Capture the monster and reap the rewards. I would strongly suggest that
you never use this set against Gigginox, Agnaktor, and Deviljho because
those monsters are better off killed than captured. (e.g. you can only
carve Unnerving Talons from Gigginox; they can't be won in rewards)
____________________________________________________________
Fixed Ranger Armor
Wide Range +2, Speed Gatherer, Carving Master
____________________________________________________________
1 Weapon Slot. At lease +6 to Wide Range is needed on Talisman after slots
At least +10 Crit Draw between the Weapon and Talisman is needed.
Baggi Helm+ OOO
Ceadeus Mail+ ---
Ceadeus Gloves+ ---
Ceadeus Waist+ OOO
Ceadeus Greaves (low rank) OR Torso UP ---
Decorations: 2 Dynamo Jewels, (Critical and Draw Jewels as needed).
If you happen to have the almighty Crit Draw +7 OO Talisman then grab this
set instead of the one above. You can use a no-slot Weapon with it.
____________________________________________________________
Between the Weapon and Talisman you're going to need +8 to Crit Draw
and +1 to Hearing. This can be accomplished with a 1-slot weapon and
a gem that has +8 Crit Draw after slots.
Or you can use a 2-slot weapon and get away with a Crit Draw +5 with 1-slot.
Decorations: 2 Checkmate jewels in the Helm and Gloves. 1 Earplug Jewel
Draw and/or Crit Jewels as needed.
This setup nets you Sharpness +1 and Punishing Draw WITHOUT the usual
downside of Blunt Edge. Crit Draw is a must have GS skill. Earplugs
will help get more Level 3 charges on weaker roaring monsters.
Not much to say. If you like the skill-set then use it.
One thing you could do is grab a 2-slot hammer and revert to your
skills of KO'ing from past monster hunter games.
While the talisman is pretty specific, one can't deny the usefulness of this
set against Uragaan. It's got some cool things going on, but overall
you can probably find a better set. This one is fun to use though and
looks great.
Attack UP (L), Adrenaline +2, Tremor Proof, Crit Draw
____________________________________________________________
No Weapon slots are needed (unless you need to compensate for a worse
Talisman). The Talisman is fairly specific. It must
be +7 Attack, +3 Tremor Res w/ 1-slot.
Diablos Helm+ ---
Barroth Mail+ ---
Diablos Gloves (low rank) ---
Torso UP ---
Black Leather Pants ---
Decorations: Attack Jewel
Again, the talisman is pretty specific, and the set isn't the absolute
best thing in the world, but it is a fun set to mess around with.
Since you won't have Sharpness +1 this is a viable set to use
the Crimsonwall GS with.
____________________________________________________________
Decorations: 1 Handicraft Jewel, 2 Dynamo Jewels, 2 Fast Charge Jewels.
You'll notice that this is just the End-Game Everything set, but customized
for hammer. Focus lets you get in more uppercuts and superpounds which will
lead to more KO's. Since Sharpness affects KO value I suggest using
Alatreon Metamorph for the extra purple sharpness it has over the Jho hammer.
Decorations: 3 Handicraft Jewels (or 1 Architect Jewel). If using a 3-slot
Talisman then: Peril (or 2 Crisis) Jewel and Protection (or Asylum) Jewel
Good for those that can evade easily on their own. This set actually works
with a lot of replacements. You could switch out the gloves for Barroth+,
or you could switch the Waist for the High Rank version or eve Torso UP.
Decorations: Razor Jewel, Iron Wall Jewel, 3-5 Bombadier Jewels
AS long as your Talisman takes care of that +4 to bomb boost in some fashion
this is weapon slot free making it perfect for the Great Azure Lance.
Notice that Bnahabra Faulds+ and Gigginox Greaves together give Status Atk UP
with just 2 pieces. Try and make your own sets :)
Feeling lazy and don't want to block the roars? Or maybe just get a
few extra hits in while the monster is roaring? Hey, maybe you'll
paralyze it and save a noob from death.
____________________________________________________________
Status Set 5
Status Attack UP, Razor Sharp, Guard +2 (HIGHLY CUSTOMIZABLE)
____________________________________________________________
0-2 Slot Weapon. The best Talisman would be +5 Evasion, +3 Guard w/ 1-slot.
However even with as little as +5 Evasion you could get the +3 Guard from
2 weapon slots. Notice you could upgrade to Evade +2 if you have a +7 Evasion,
+3 Guard Talisman w/ 1-slot AND a 2-slot Weapon (Sabertooth anyone?)
Barroth Helm+ OO-
Agnaktor Mail+ O--
Agnaktor Gloves+ OOO
Torso UP ---
Black Leather Pants ---
Decorations: Evade Jewel (in chest), Cutter Jewel, Lightfoot Jewel,
Razor Jewel, (possibly an Ironwall Jewel or Lightfoot Jewel in weapon)
If you want to sit there with 40% health and turtle the monster to death
then this set is for you. With Guard +2 and Evade +1 you're essentially
invincible, and Razor Sharp will make it so you don't need to sharpen often.
Good solo set, but kinda cheap!
____________________________________________________________
Sharper Lance Set
Sharpness +1, Guard +2, Attack UP (S)
____________________________________________________________
You'll need at least +5 Guard and 2-slots between the weapon
and the Talisman. Not too hard to obtain, although the 2-slots
MUST be together (not one and one).
There's lots of ways to get Sharpness +1 and Guard +2 together,
but most of the sets I see don't have any additional skills. This
ones easy to get and why not have the small attack boost?
Decorations: 2 Architect Jewels, 3 Handicraft Jewels, 1 Element Jewel,
1 Free Element Jewel, 1 Swimming Jewel (optional)
Brings out the potential of Tenebra D or Sinister Saints. If you choose
to use a 3-slot Talisman you can get Olympic Swimmer, or you can just stick
with the +10 C-Skill route.
About all the power you can get to solo Jhen+. You actually only need a
2-slot Talisman (or handicraft +2) but the extra +10 C-Skill can be nice.
Something like Item Use UP would be most beneficial. Not half bad looking
either, and that's always a plus.
Pretty good set to Solo Alatreon with a GS. If you're going to go hammer
then there are better choices (HGE is nice).
____________________________________________________________
You'll need 3 points of either Crit Draw or Tremor Res between the
weapon slots and Talisman, but the GS you should be using if you just made
it to high rank is High Seglinde, so there's 2 slots right there.
Even a 1-slot Talisman would be good enough.
High Seiglinde goes great with this set. Even though your main purpose
shouldnt be Poison with the GS, the Status Attack UP is basically there
for free. Once you make it to HR40+ grab a Diablos Helm+ (but keep the
low rank Gloves). It will remove the slot requirements off the weapon/charm.
This set also works well with the Alluring Lotus hammer, but you'll need
a better Talisman.
Razor Sharp, Status Atk UP, Attack UP (L)
____________________________________________________________
You'll need 6 points of Attack between the Talisman and your weapon slots.
Since this is an HR31-40 set, you do not have access to Onslaught jewels
(+5 Attack).
Shadowbinder or Alluring Lotus go well with this set. I'd recommend
Shadowbinder (P) over Shadowbinder (G).
____________________________________________________________
Not much to say, pretty good lance set to start off High rank with. You can
always sacrifice Guard +2 for Guard +1 and gain 4 slots towards another skill
too if you want, but I'd go with Guard +2.
____________________________________________________________
Alternative Lance User who JUST made High Rank.
Guard +2, Speed Sharpening w/ Razor Sharp OR Element Atk UP (Choose one)
____________________________________________________________
This set requires 3 slots between your weapon slots and/or Talisman.
Or if you have a good Guard Talisman use that.
Decorations: 4 Stone Wall jewels and either 6 Element Jewels or
6 Razor Sharp Jewels.
Note: If you choose to have Element Atk UP you will also have
Status Atk Down. No big deal really. This set is very absolete once you make
it to HR40 because then you can make Ironwall Jewels or Agnaktor+ Armor.
____________________________________________________________
Status Lance or SnS User who JUST made High Rank.
Guard +1, Razor Sharp, Speed Sharpening, Status Atk UP
____________________________________________________________
A very nice set to kick off High Rank in. Works well with any status lance
but the Gobul lance would be my personal choice. This set doesn't need a
Talisman either, so with a good one you can add another skill. Or use
a Guard +5 Talisman and upgrade to Guard +2.
============================================================
============================================================
These Armor Sets require fairly hard to acquire or Rare Talismans.
Many of these sets are amazing, but don't be discouraged if you cannot
make them. Most of us can't, and few probably ever will.
____________________________________________________________
The hands-down BEST GS Set
High Grade Earplugs, Sharpness +1, Adrenaline +2, Critical Draw
____________________________________________________________
A 1-Slot Weapon is needed. Anguish (P) is strongly suggested.
The Talisman MUST be Critical +7; Potential +3 w/ one slot.
Very specific use set. Although it doesn't have to be used with a
Hammer. Any 3-slot weapon with awaken potential will work.
e.g. Tenebra D, Sinister Saints
