The abbreviations in the left column are search tools. If you want to jump to
a specific point in the guide, just search, with your browser's search
function (usually activated by pressing Ctrl+F), for the series of five
characters in the square brackets. For example, if you wanted to search for a
section with abbreviation "[ABBRV]", you would simply search for "[ABBRV]" with
your browser's search function. Alternatively, if you are looking for a
specific stage, you may use the search function to search for "[X-Y]",
replacing X with the level number, and Y with the stage number.

My email address is
[email protected]. I have very few requests for
emails sent to me, be reasonable and follow them for me. First off, please
email me. I like writing guides, and I especially like writing good, helpful
guides. Feedback lets me know exactly how helpful I have been, and for what
reasons I have or haven't been helpful. Emails that tell me that I have done
poorly are not appreciated. Emails that tell me WHY I have done poorly are
much more helpful, and I widely accept these. In other words, criticism must
be constructive. Emails that tell me that I have done well are acceptable.
Those kinds of emails keep this FAQ growing longer; they fuel my desire to help
you. However, emails that tell me WHY I have done well are more useful to me,
and I ask, again, that if you are going to criticize, even positively, please
do so in a constructive manner. Also, I am writing this guide as I play
through the game. If I don't specifically ask for a piece of information, it's
probably not a good idea to tell me about it. I don't want my inbox to be
flooded with information I was about to obtain by myself. As a general rule,
if it seems like I missed something important in my guide, send me something
about it. If it seems like I haven't gotten to it yet, hold off. Other than
that, comments, questions, constructive criticism.
Also, if an unauthorized site links to this guide, or you feel like this
work has been plagarized, please please PLEASE let me know. At the bottom of
the guide is the "Copyright Information" section, if you would like to know
more.
The new email address I have automatically filters GameFAQs emails from my
personal email. Therefore, it is NOT necessary to put anything specific in the
subject of your email. However, I'll probably be more able to help you if you
specify something about the email in the subject.
Here is the list of things I will currently be accepting in emails:
- Anything important in the "Walkthrough" section it seems I have missed
- Mistakes of any kind

| | About the Author [AUTHR]
|__-__|-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi! My name is Tom Farello, and I will be your guide through Kirby's Return
to Dream Land! I am a software developer, located in San Antonio, TX, at the
time of writing this guide. I currently work as a developer at H-E-B, a
grocery retailing company located here in San Antonio. As weird as it sounds
to be doing software development for a grocery company, we actually have a
great IT department, and I am definitely growing as a developer in my position.
As far as other guides I have written, I am probably most notable for my guides
for Super Mario Galaxy in 2007 and Donkey Kong Country Returns in 2010, both of
which earned FAQ of the Month on GameFAQs. I haven't written a full
walkthrough for a Kirby game since Kirby and the Amazing Mirror in 2004, so I
thought I might take another stab at it.
Being a professional limits the amount I have to do personal stuff, so I do not
timestamp future versions of my guides, but I try to update as often as I can.
Nothing motivates me more than emails from my readers, so keep sending them!
Other than that, I hope this guide is very helpful to you in conquering Kirby's
Return to Dream Land!

| | Version History [HSTRY]
|__-__|-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Version 0.30: 10/29/2011
Walkthrough is complete through Onion Ocean.
Version 0.20: 10/27/2011
Walkthrough is complete through Raisin Ruins, and I have documented all of
the platinum scores for the main mode challege stages, as well as Sword
Challenge EX.
Version 0.10: 10/26/2011
Well, things hardly turn out as you expect, and this was no exception. I
didn't actually manage to get my hands on a copy of the game until the
evening of the 25th, rendering my day off from work fruitless. I played the
game all the way straight through on the 25th, and recorded it using my
Dazzle, so now it's just a question of documenting my progress in text
format. I only spent a little bit of time writing today, so I only got
through the first level, but I think it will start going faster now that I'm
in the groove.
Version 0.02: 10/23/2011
Did some formatting in the Lor Starcutter section and some ASCII work for the
walkthrough. I'm ready to go for when the game comes out tomorrow. I'm
taking the day off from work, so I'm hoping to make some serious progress.
Version 0.01: 10/6/2011
My work has me on 9:00 PM conference calls on Skype, giving me the perfect
opportunity to put Skype on mute and start working on this. I've got
chapters 0 through 2 pretty much nailed down. I converted the Kirby logo to
ASCII on www.text-image.com and it turned out pretty well, so I added that to
the top of the guide. Yay! The section header ASCII is supposed to be the
star sprite from Kirby's Dream Land 2.

STAGE |_ | __ |_ |
_| |_ |__| _| |_
|_____| |_____| Energy Spheres: 3 [1-1]
Welcome to the main game walkthrough! The first stage in this game will help
you get used to the controls and mechanics in the game, so go ahead and start
off by heading to the right. After defeating two Waddle Dees, you will come
across a green Blade Knight. If you swallow this enemy, you will be able to
copy thw Sword ability. If you wish, you will also be able to copy Cutter from
the Sir Kibble just ahead. Whichever ability you chose, continue to the right,
picking up the stars if you wish. You can dash over the small gaps up ahead,
grabbing the stars as you go. Fly over the cliff up ahead, grabbing the
cherry if you've been hurt, and fly near the top of the screen in order to pick
up the red star, worth 10 star points. When you're done here, head into the
door at the bottom-right.
You will find yourself in a cave. The first enemy here is a Hothead, which
can be copied for the Fire ability if you wish. Head downward through the
two-way platforms, and you will find a key, the first carried item in the game.
You won't be able to fly or attack while carrying it, but you will need to
bring it to the gate on the right. Time your jumps over the Cappies here so
that you don't get hit by their caps, and open the gate. Just inside, you will
find the game's first **Energy Sphere**. Just 119 to go! To the right, use
your super inhale to get rid of the stone block (you will need to get rid of
your ability if you have one) and grab the 1-up inside. Once you have it, take
the top path to the right. The giant Waddle Dee up here is actually three
Waddle Dees wearing a suit. To defeat them all at once, use a super inhale on
the suit. Exhale the enemies at the star blocks to get some stars and a
cherry. The next Waddle Dee suit is standing behind a two-way platform. Drop
down there and perform a super inhale to get some star points and food. Once
you are satisfied here, climb up the ladder and go through the door at the
top-right.
You will find yourself back outside. You will be introduced to your first
super enemy, a Super Blade Knight. Defeat or inhale it to get the Ultra Sword
copy ability. The Ultra Sword can decimate enemies and everything with a
flashing star on it, including the loose pieces of ground up ahead. Continue
to the right, destroying everything in your path, until you get to a large
group of loose ground blocks with three Waddle Dees standing on it. Smash it
up to reveal a dimensional rift. Jump in to go to a secret area.
Every dimensional area in this game will find you running away from a purple
wall that is chasing you. For this one, you will need to run to the right.
This area is pretty straightforward, just make sure that you keep moving to
stay ahead of the purple wall. You will need to use a super inhale to inhale
the giant Waddle Dees and the stone blocks. After performing a super inhale,
exhale to the right in order to clear your path forward. You can dash over the
small gaps up ahead. Once you reach the door on the very right, head through.
Jump up and touch one of the copy essences here to choose either Fire or Sword,
then head to the right in order to fight a purple Sphere Doomer. If you need
additional help during this fight, check out the "Mid-Bosses" section above.
Once you have finished him off, grab this stage's last two **Energy Spheres**,
then head through the rift on the right.
Back in your own dimension, fly up to the right, past the Bronto Burts, and
head through the goal door at the very right.
___ _____
STAGE |_ | __ |___ \
_| |_ |__|/ ___/
|_____| |_____| Energy Spheres: 3 [1-2]
Right at the beginning of this stage, there is a pair of enemies that you can
copy for the all-new Leaf ability. Whether you want it or not, head up the
ladder here. Head right across the platform here, taking out the enemies as
you go. Stay along the bottom path if you want a hamburger. At the end of
this platform, there is a Warp Star; just jump up and grab it to move to the
next area.
After a completely unnecessary Warp Star cutscene, you will land on a rasied
wooden platform. You can grab 12 star points to the left if you want;
otherwise, continue to the right. There is a Cutter copy essence up ahead;
grab it if you want (you will have another opportunity up ahead). Head to the
right, taking out the Comos and Bouncies along the way. Copy the Sir Kibble up
ahead if you didn't grab the Cutter ability before (or lost it), since you will
be able to cut the ropes holding up the hanging platforms here with the cutter
boomerangs. Cut down the second platform here in order to grab the blue star,
then grab the meat at the very right if you need it, and go through the door.
At the beginning of the next area, there is a cannon item. Grab it and head to
right. The cannon will auto-fire while you're carrying it, so use it to take
out all of the enemies here; it can even break the gray blocks in this area.
Keep moving to the right, and you will find a switch surrounded gray blocks.
Use the cannons projectiles to break the blocks and hit the switch, and a
platform will appear to allow you to continue to the right. Just on the other
side, there is a group of three gray blocks in the ceiling. Use the cannon to
break them, the drop the cannon and fly up into the gap to get the first
**Energy Sphere**. Then, head through the door on the right.
The next room is a verical area inside the trunk of a tree. Grab the Needle
copy essence here if you want, then begin making your way upward. You can
break the star blocks laong the walls if you need some extra food as you
continue up this room. Once you pass the Maxim Tomato on the left, climb up
the ladder. At the top, there is a Waddle Doo, from which you can get the Beam
ability. Climb the ladder on the left to get to the top of the area. If you
head to the right at the top here, you will find a couple of stars underneath
some star blocks, and, if you fly up from there, an **Energy Sphere** hidden in
the foliage at the top-right of the screen. Once you have it, head through the
door.
In this next room, you will be fighting the mid-boss, Gigant Edge. Pick either
the Fire or Beam ability (or keep the one you have), then head to the right to
start the fight. If you need additional help fighting the Gigant Edge, check
out the "Mid-Bosses" section. Once you have defeated the Gigant Edge, make
sure you copy the Sword ability from it. Use the sword to cut the rope through
the wall up ahead to open up your way to the last **Energy Sphere** in this
stage. Grab it, then get the food on the right if you need it, and go through
the goal door up above.
___ _____
STAGE |_ | __ |___ \
_| |_ |__| |__ (
|_____| |_____/ Energy Spheres: 3 [1-3]
You will get the opportunity to grab the Spark ability right at the beginning
here. Use any attack on the bomb block to the right to reveal a door, then
head through.
You will find yourself in a cave. Climb down the ladder, and you will see a
Shotzo. It is invulnerable, so don't bother trying to defeat it. Continue
downward, avoiding the Shotzos and their cannonballs. There is a Spark copy
essence along the way if you want it. Just underneath, there is a branching
path; the right path is easier, but the left path will net you more star
points. Climb down the ladder at the bottom, but do not go through the door
quite yet. Drop down through the two-way platform here in order to find a
hidden **Energy Sphere**. Once you have it, continue through the door.
The next room takes place in a crystal cavern. The platforms here will move up
and down. Make your way to the right, defeating the enemies as you go. If you
need some extra health, there is a cherry hidden in the ceiling above a star
block after the giant Bouncy; immediately after that, there is a 1-up hidden
above a bomb block. If you want, inhale the stone block just ahead and exhale
it at the breakable blocks on the right for some star points and food. Hit the
switch along the top path to open up the gate to the door. Head on through.
Grab the Beam copy essence here if you want it; you can use it to break the
star blocks underneath the Shotzos, causing them to plummet into oblivion. The
Beam ability can go through walls and blocks, so you can use it to break the
bomb block just ahead for a couple of star points. Continue ahead, and you
will pass a locked gate. The key is just ahead, past the moving platforms.
Grab the key, and bring it back, keeping in mind that you can't fly while
carrying the key; time your jumps accordingly. Once you get the key back to
the gate, you will earn another **Energy Sphere**. Continue back to the right.
When you see a group of Shotzos with a bomb block, you can break block to make
the Shotzos fall off the screen; there are no repercussions for doing so. Grab
the stars at the bottom-right if you want, then head through the door up above.
In the next room, fly over the spikes, then hit the switch to open up the path
to the right. Below, you will see a monkey enemy carrying a key; when you get
close enough, it will start running to the right. In order to get the key, you
will need to stay ahead of it in order to get the key he is holding. So, head
to the right as fast as you can; you will be able to make it faster if you use
the sliding attack on the star blocks, and ignore the enemies. Once the two
paths meet, defeat the monkey if you beat it there, and take the key to over to
the right, and open the gate to get the third and final **Energy Sphere**, then
go through the goal door on the right.

STAGE |_ | __ | |_| |
_| |_ |__||___ |
|_____| |_| Energy Spheres: 4 [1-4]
Start the stage off to the right. Watch the background for stone pillars that
are a bit shaky; once you get near one of them, it will topple over, and if
you're underneath it, you will take damage. However, if you are dashing, you
will pass underneath unharmed. As you continue forward, watch for a pineapple
underneath a two-way platform. The wall just ahead is a trick wall; walk
through it to reach a hidden cavern with an **Energy Sphere** and some star
points inside. Once you have it, loop back around, up the ladder, and head to
the right. Run over the small gaps, past the falling pillars, and through the
door at the end.
In the next room, watch out for the bow and arrow enemies; they will
occasionally shoot an arrow in the direction they are facing. Head across the
first moving platform, watching out for the Como, and hit the switch. This
will cause a piece of invincible candy to drop down. Grab it to become
invincible and run faster temporarily. Head to the right, smashin through the
enemies in your way. When you see a group of two bow and arrow enemies and a
Como, you can fly up above them for a Maxim Tomato and 20 star points. Go
into the door on the right when you are done here.
The next room takes place in a cave. Watch out for the spikes that fall down
from the ceiling here. Continue along the path until you find a rainbow
shield. It will protect you from above as you continue forward. Use it to
block the falling spikes and defeat enemies and star blocks above you. There
is another shield about halfway through the room; grab it to stay protected
from the Shotzos up ahead. Hit the switch at the end to open up the area at
the top-right of the screen; use your rainbow shield to defeat the Waddle Dee
suits up above. Once you've taken care of the enemies, jump up there to get
another **Energy Sphere**. Once you have it, climb up the ladder, and go
through the door at the top.
You'll be back outside now. The star blocks to the left contain food and star
points; grab them if you want. Break the bomb block to continue to the right,
and you will encounter a new super enemy, a Super Hothead, which will give you
the Monster Flame super ability. Just like Ultra Sword, it is really good at
breaking stuff with flashing stars on it. Continue through this area, burning
trees and defeating enemies with Monster Flame, until you reach a thick tree
trunk with three Comos. Burn the tree to reveal another dimensional rift.
In this dimensional area, Comos will drop down from the ceiling while you jump
over gaps. You can avoid the Comos by jumping over them, or by exhaling stone
blocks at them. The giant Comos can only be defeated by using a super inhale,
so keep that in mind as you move forward. When you reach the door at the end,
go through to fight another purple Sphere Doomer. Your ability choices this
time are Leaf and Spark. As you'll soon find out, each Sphere Doomer arena is
slightly different. This one isn't too harsh; the center of the room is
sloped downward. Once you defeat the Sphere Doomer, you will be awarded Cookie
Country's final two **Energy Spheres**. Jump through the rift on the right to
return to the main stage. The goal door is just to your right.

Unfortunately, I used Spark to completely decimate this boss, so that's really
the only real strategy I have here until I go back to redo it. I will have a
more robust strategy for you soon. For the record, Spark is amazing against
bosses.

STAGE |___ \ __ |_ |
/ ___/|__| _| |_
|_____| |_____| Energy Spheres: 3 [2-1]
Right off the bat in this stage, you will be able to copy the Whip ability from
the enemy at the top of the hill. I highly suggest you do so, becuase you will
only be able to access many of the items in this area with Whip. Once you are
used to controlling your new ability, head to the right. Watch out for Pactos
hanging around at the bottom of the screen; if you cross their line of sight,
they will try to bite you. You can take care of them by sticking to the low
path, and hitting them with your whip. Also, the floating orange enemies in
this room are called Scarfies; if you try to inhale them, they will start to
chase you around, so take them out with either an exhaled star or a copy
ability. Eventually, you will come to a two-way platform near an arrow sign;
drop down below the two-way platform to find a hidden door. Inside, grab the
Whip copy essence if you don't already have it, and use it to whip the 1-up on
the right side. You will not be able to defeat the Gordos here at all, so
don't waste your energy. Leave once you're done here. Once you're back
outside, head back up and to the right. The Pactos will now also be above the
path; you can either choose to defeat them or dash under them. If you're
dashing, they will be too slow to hit you. You can grab the underground hot
dog and star by dropping below the two-way platform and using the whip to reach
the items. At the very right side of this room, you will find a door; head
through it.
Grab the Fire ability from one of the Flamers at the beginning of this stage,
then head to the right until you find a fuse sticking out of the ground. Light
the fuse with any fire attack, then jump into the cannon on the right. When
the fuse burns out, the cannon will fire you to a hidden room with a large pit
and an **Energy Sphere**. Head through the door at the top once you grab the
sphere, making sure not to fall into the pit. You will come back out near the
cannon. Keep heading to the right. You can use a super inhale the stone block
here to gain access to some star points, a hot dog, and a Needle copy essence.
Grab what you want, then head up to the door on the right.
In the next room, you will need to avoid boulders as they roll to the right.
Break the bomb block here to get the first one rolling. Quickly run to the
right to stay in front of the boulder. Jump onto the two-way platform up
above, and you can watch the boulder break when it hits the wall up ahead.
Hitting the next switch will cause the next boulder to fall in front of you;
follow it forward, letting it take out everything along the path. It will
eventually roll into a ditch, uncovering an alcove with a hot dog in it. The
next switch will also cause a boulder to fall in front of you. This one will
hit another switch, causing another boulder to fall behind you. Stay between
the two boulders as you move forward. The first boulder will roll through a
set of breakable blocks near the end; follow it through to reach another
**Energy Sphere**. Head through the door above you once you have it.
This next room is similar to the last, except the boulder will roll in from the
left; foring you to dodge them. Climb up the first ladder you see to dodge the
first boulder, and the second ladder for the next set of three boulders. The
two-way platform up ahead will give you aegis from the last boulder. Head
through the door once it passes over you.
You should spot an invinicble candy in front of you here; grab it and take off
to the right, running through everything in your path. Make sure you don't
fall into the pits, because those will still kill you, even while invincible.
Drop down past the two-way platforms and into the door at the end of this room.
Here, you can grab the Parasol copy essence (or copy one of the Parasol Waddle
Dees) as you make your way up to the right. Follow the path of stars downward,
and into the hallway ahead. Through the set of breakable blocks is a fight
with the mid-boss, Bonkers. Once you defeat Bonkers, grab the Hammer ability
from him, then continue to the right. The shiny gray blocks up ahead can be
destroyed using the hammer; break them to get this stage's third and final
**Energy Sphere**. Head to the very right side of this room to reach the goal
door.
_____ _____
STAGE |___ \ __ |___ \
/ ___/|__|/ ___/
|_____| |_____| Energy Spheres: 4 [2-2]
The first enemy here is a Noddy; you can copy Sleep from it, but I highly
recommend that you don't; it's a worthless ability. In any case, head to the
right to find a puddle of water. You can practice the swimming controls here
if you wish. Once you're done, continue to the right. You can copy the Water
ability from the Water Galbo up ahead, which will allow you to surf over the
puddles, speeding up the trip to the right. At the end of this room, there is
a trick wall at the ground level; head through it to grab a red star and a
couple of grapes. Once you are satisfied here, loop back around to the door at
the top.
Another new ability will be available for you at the beginning of this room:
Stone. Grab it from either the Rockies here or the copy essence, then head to
the right. You can use the Stone ability to automatically slide down the hills
here; use this to your advantage, but keep in mind that you will need to exit
rock form in order to traverse the flat parts. Continue down the slopes, until
you pass another Rocky enemy. You should see a peg to the right. Use the
Stone ability on it to pound it in, and reveal a hidden door. Step inside to
find another peg. When you hit it, the blocks will break, causing the path to
the right to open. Stay near the top of the area, though, because another set
of blocks will appear to try to prevent you from progressing. If you manage to
get to the right side, you will be rewarded with an **Energy Sphere**. Head
back through the door once you have it, or to reset the room if you messed up.
Once back in the main room, keep going downward to reach the door to the next
room.
Swim to the right at the beginning here, to reach dry land, then head through
the door underneath the Water Galbo. In order to grab the 1-up here, you will
need to break the bomb block, preferably with the Water ability, then run to
the right before the 1-up falls into the pit. Once you're done here, head back
through the door. Continue to the right here, staying near the bottom of the
screen. You will come across a door hidden under a set of breakable blocks.
Use the water gun to break the blocks, then enter the door. In here, break the
left-most bomb block to reveal the **Energy Sphere** here; if you hit the right
bomb block, you will release the captive enemies. Once you have the sphere, go
back through the door. Keep going to the right here, until you reach a Warp
Star. Grab on to go to the next area.
Jump up to the ceiling here to grab the lever at the top; this will open the
gate leading to the next door.
In here, there are stacks of stone idols with flashing stars on them (that
doesn't scream super ability, does it?) Watch out for the red ones, because
they will occassionally breathe fire. Head upward in this room, avoiding the
fire, until you see a Super Waddle Doo appear. Defeat it to get the Flare Beam
ability. Of course, you will be able to use this to break the stone idols in
this room. If you wish you can head back down to the bottom of this room to
break the idols down there; one of them has a blue star. Otherwise, continue
upward, breaking the idols along the way, if you desire. Above the first
ladder, there is a stone idol surrounded by three bomb blocks. Break the idol
and all of the blocks to get a Maxim Tomato. Further up, there is a chamber
completely lined with stone idols. The left-most ones hide a dimensional rift,
so be sure to take them out. Jump through once you find it.
In this dimensional area, you will need to jump between pockets of floating
water in order to outrun the purple wall. Just keep swimming (swimming,
swimming) to the right, watching out for the enemies along the way. When you
reach the stone block ahead, super inhale it, then exhale it straight ahead to
clear out the path forward. Follow the path of stars in the next area, then
super inhale and exhale the next set of stone blocks as well. The door will be
in a pocket of water at the end of this area. As you may have expected, you
will be fighting a Sphere Doomer here, but this time, it's a red Sphere Doomer,
and there are puddles of water on either side of the area, which will reduce
the effective area you have to fight. Defeat this new type of Sphere Doomer to
receive (you guessed it) two more **Energy Spheres**. Jump into the rift on
the right when you are done. The goal door is just at the top of the nearby
ladder.

STAGE |___ \ __ |___ \
/ ___/|__| |__ (
|_____| |_____/ Energy Spheres: 4 [2-3]
Head up the staircase at the beginning of this stage, grabbing an ability if
you so desire. When you reach the ladder on the right, keep an eye out for a
bomb block embedded in the right wall. Break it to open up an area with a
cherry and some stars at the bottom of the ladder. Continue to climb up the
second ladder here until you reach a slightly cut-in area in the right wall.
You will be able to pass through a trick wall here for 30 star points. Head
through the door at the very top when you're done here.
In the next room, you will travel upward through a pair of branching paths. At
the first branch, take the right path for some stars and a cherry. Next, the
left-most path will net you a 1-up. Enter the door at the top of this room.
Next, you will have to travel up a series of moving platforms. Watch out for
the Mumbies here; you will not be able to inhale them. After you pass a red
star, you will come across a Twister enemy. Copy it to get the Tornado
ability, then continue right, past the Shotzo. Wait for the platform here to
move to its lowest point, then super inhale the stone block under the flame
cannon to reveal a hidden path with a Tornado copy essence, and, past a set of
breakable blocks an **Energy Sphere**. Head back out to the main area, and
continue to climb upward. The door is just past a set of star blocks up ahead.
Copy the Starman at the beginning of this room to get the Hi-Jump ability, and
use it to begin your ascent of this tower. When you reach a branching path,
Hi-Jump up the middle path to get another **Energy Sphere**. Up a bit further,
you can use the Hi-Jump ability to pass through the Gordos unharmed. Use this
technique to get to the door. If you are low on health, you can use Hi-Jump
one more time after reachin the door to find a secret area with some stars and
juice.
At the beginning of the next room, you will find a new item, a Maxim Tomato
block. You can carry this around with you, and throw it to reveal a Maxim
Tomato whenever you need it. At the top of the stairway, you will fight a King
Doo. Grab the beam ability from it after the fight, and head up into the
auto-fire cannons on the right. From there, continue up to the left, until you
find a bomb block embedded in the left wall. Hit it with a beam attack to find
a 1-up and an **Energy Sphere**. Head through the door just above.
In this area, you will need to head upward using manual-fire cannons. Most of
them will spin around before you fire, so try to time your shots so that you
get the best items as you continue upward. At the top, there is a set of
branching paths that you can take. The left-most one houses a star, and the
right-most one has this stage's last **Energy Sphere**. Once you are done
here, take the center path all the way up, dodging the flame cannons'
projectiles, to the goal door.

STAGE |___ \ __ | |_| |
/ ___/|__||___ |
|_____| |_| Energy Spheres: 5 [2-4]
Grab the key right at the beginning of this stage, and the Scarfy up above will
start to chase you. You can choose to either defeat it or try to outrun it,
but either way, take the key up the staircase to the right to open the gate at
the top. The first enemy inside here will give you the Bomb ability; grab it
if you want, then head through the door.
Climb down the ladder here, then make your way across the conveyor belts to the
right. You can use the bomb roll to easily take out enemies on the ground as
you make your way forward. Near the middle of the room, there is another Poppy
Bros. Sr.; if you don't have the Bomb ability, make sure you grab it now.
Immediately after that, there is a door underneath some breakable blocks.
Inside, you see a switch that activates the gate at the bottom of the screen.
However, the gate doesn't stay open for very long, so use a bomb drop move to
place a timed bomb right next to the switch, then head down to the gate before
the bomb explodes. If you're quick enough, you will be able to retrieve the
**Energy Sphere** behind the gate. Once you have it, go back through the door.
Continue to the right, either dodging or defeating the Scarfies, then head
through the door at the end.
The next room will be very dark. To start off, make your way down the nearby
ladder, and walk to the right, jumping over the raised section of the platform.
Grab the candle here to greatly increase your range of vision. Continue
carefully to the right, dodging the enemies as you go. When you reach a
branching path, you will want to take the top path. You will notice an energy
sphere above you as you continue; ignore it for now, and pass underneath. Jump
above the two-way platform here, then look to the left. Just past the
breakable blocks here, you will find a path to the **Energy Sphere**. Loop
back to the right to find a Waddle Dee suit and the door to the next area.
If you brought the candle with you, it will be burned out, and, frankly,
worthless in this well-lit room, so just get rid of it. Head down the ladder
and to the right, avoiding the fire blocks as you go. Just ahead, you will
fight a Water Galboros. Copy it for the Water ability once you defeat it, then
head to the right. You will now be able to cool down the fire blocks, making
them traversable and breakable, so feel free to grab the food here if you want
it. When you reach the branching path ahead, the bottom path contains a 1-up;
if you hit the bomb block from a distance with the water drop attack, the Ticks
will fall into the pit below, clearing your path to the 1-up. Loop back around
to the top path the reach the door.
In the next room, you will need to dodge flame cannonballs coming in from the
background. Deftly maneuver around the cannonballs as you make your way to the
right until you reach a new item, the invisibility crystal. Bring it along
with you to the right, until you reach a set of crystal blocks. While you are
carrying the invisibility crystal, you will be able to pass right through these
blocks, so head inside to grab the stars and bun. You will see another set of
crystal block to the right; enter the door behind them, making sure to bring
the invisibility crystal with you. Inside, there is an **Energy Sphere**
behind yet another set of crystal blocks. Just pass right through to grab it.
Head back through the door when you're done here. Continue to the right,
avoiding a few more flame cannonballs to reach the next door.
Grab the Sword copy essence in this area, then use it to cut down the hangning
platforms up ahead. Head down the ladder up ahead, and you will find a Super
Blade Knight. Grab Ultra Sword from it, and continue forward. Ultra Sword can
cut down the really thick ropes in this room, so use that to find hidden items
and clear a path forward. Continue to plow ahead, until you reach a chamber
with four Scarfies and two flame cannons. If you cut down the left-most rope,
a dimensional rift will be revealed. Hop through when you're ready.
As a change of pace, you will need to run to the left in this dimensional area,
so start off in that direction. Break the star blocks underneath the Shotzos
to make them inoperable as you make your way up and over the staircases here.
This area is fairly straightforward, so make your way all the way to the left
while removing the blocks from underneath the Shotzos. Drop down and head into
the door at the end quickly before the purple wall catches up with you. This
battle against an orange Sphere Doomer will be in an area with two sets of star
blocks in the ground. If the star blocks break, you will be in danger of
falling into the pits, so try to make sure that you keep the blocks intact
during the fight. Once you win, grab the two **Energy Spheres**, then jump
into the rift on the right. Drop down to the bottom of this area to reach the
goal door.

STAGE |___ \ __ |_ |
|__ (|__| _| |_
|_____/ |_____| Energy Spheres: 3 [3-1]
If you've played Kirby's Dream Land 2, you may recognize the BGM in this stage
as Kine's theme, so enjoy that. At the start of this stage, you will come
across some coconuts in trees; when you walk underneath them, they will fall
down and explode. To avoid them, either dash or fly over the treeline. When
you come to a horizontal rope, jump up to grab it, then you can move left or
right across it. Note that you will not be able to attack while on the rope,
so you will need to avoid obstacles and enemies. Once you jump down off the
rope at the end, you will see a Chilly, which you can copy for the Ice ability.
Grab it if you want, then continue to the right. Below the next rope, there is
a set of two fire blocks. Use the Ice ability to cool the second set, then
drop down below to grab a 1-up. Keep heading right to the right side of this
area to find a Warp Star.
In the next area, grab the Parasol ability, then float down the gap, keeping an
eye on the left wall. There are a couple of hidden chambers in the wall along
the way. The first one is fairly obvious, and contains a pineapple. The
second is pretty well-hidden; look for four sets of three stars, arranged
vertically. The cave is between the second and third sets, and there is a
stone block slightly poking out. Super inhale the stone block to get the 32
star points inside. At the bottom of this room is a door underwater.
Grab the Tornado ability here, and head to the right. Above the cave ahead,
there is a hock of meat behind a set of breakable blocks; grab it if you're
running low on health. Use the Tornado ability to make your way all the way to
the right, then up the shaft at the end of the room. Go through the door at
the top.
At the beginning of the next room, copy the Spear ability from the flying
enemy, the head right. Hit the switch on the platform, and it will begin to
move right; ride it to the other side. Do this for the next floating platform,
as well. You will see a new type of block up ahead: the X block. When you
step on these, they will begin to shake, and will shortly break, so cross them
quickly. On the next moving platform, use an upward Spear attack to break the
bomb block above the Gordo to open up a hidden room to the right. In this
room, grab the key then quickly run over both switches to cause platforms to
appear on the right side. These platforms are temporary, so quickly make your
way up to the gate at the top to grab an **Energy Sphere**. Head back out
through the door once you have it. Cross one more set of X blocks and a moving
platform to make it to the door at the end.
Start off to the right, avoiding the flaming tiki statues (which have flashing
stars on them, by the way), and you will see a new super enemy, a Super Chilly.
Grab the Snow Bowl super ability from it, and use it to raze everything to your
right. When you see a ramp, that's your cue to roll off and break a bunch of
stuff. Crash your way through a couple of sandcastles, and go through the door
at the end.
There is a giant sandcastle at the beginning of this room; Snow Bowl over it to
reveal a dimensional rift. Hop inside when you're ready.
In this dimensional area, the purple wall will be coming from the top of the
screen, so you will need to make your way downward here. The switches here
will cause the platforms to drop down to the next floor. Each floor will have
an obstacle to get through; most of them will require you to clear a path by
inhaling something, and some of them will see you avoiding Gordos or Blippers.
There are a couple of 1-ups and stars along the way, but trying to get them
will put you in a good position to be squashed by the purple wall, so try at
your own risk. The door is all the way at the bottom. Another orange Sphere
Doomer is waiting for you here. This time, the battle is set on an island,
so there is a reduced amount of solid ground for you to stand on. The reward
for winning is, of course, two **Energy Spheres**. Exit through the rift on
the right once you're done. The goal door is just outside, to the right.
_____ _____
STAGE |___ \ __ |___ \
|__ (|__|/ ___/
|_____/ |_____| Energy Spheres: 4 [3-2]
Drop down into the ocean here, and start swimming to the right. Stay near the
top, and you'll come across a set of breakable blocks in the ceiling. Head
through to find a sword enemy and a hot dog. Since the Sword ability works
underwater, you might want to consider grabbing it here. Continue to the
right. Once you reach the end, climb up the ladder, then go through the door
at the top.
Watch out for the Blippers jumping through the one-way platforms as you make
your way to the right. The enemy just after the Noddy here is your first
opportunity to get the Crash ability if you want; even though it is a
limited-use ability, you will be fighting a mid-boss up ahead, so it may be
worth it to switch abilities for it. As I mentioned, you will be fighting a
Kibble Blade on the second bridge up ahead. Once you beat it, grab the Cutter
ability, and continue forward. Up on the next bridge, cut down the hanging
platform, and swim to the left, through the breakable blocks to get an
**Energy Sphere**. Grab the food and stars down here if you want, then jump
back up onto the bridge, and through the door on the right.
Get the Spear ability in this room, then head to the right, sticking to the
bottom of the room. You will eventually come to a large gap underwater; look
to the right, and you will see a switch. Go around to the right side of the
switch, and hit it with your spear to reveal a secret room. Break all three
bomb blocks in here to gain access to another **Energy Sphere**. Head back
through the door when you're done. Head back up and to the right, to find the
door to the next room.
In this area, you will find a cool new item, the stomping boot. You can use it
to jump on any surface, but you will be unable to float while wearing it, so if</pre><pre id="faqspan-2">
you start falling, be sure to abandon it before it's too late. Grab the boot,
then make your way to the right, jumping on enemies as you go. Watch out for
pegs as you go; the stomping boot can pound them in. After grabbing the second
boot here, you will find a yellow block. Jump on it with the boot to get a
1-up, then continue on. After you pass a Water Galbo, you will come across a
set of three Bronto Burts. Jump off all three to make it to another yellow
block. Break it to find an alternate exit to this room. The normal exit is
around to the right.
If you managed to get to the alternate exit, swim up and grab the
**Energy Sphere** located here, then pull the level above to break the blocks
to the right. This will lead you to where the normal exit to the previous room
let out. Swim down through the breakable blocks to the bottom of this area,
then head to the right. Watch out for the eels in the upcoming area. They
move in a predictable pattern, so they are pretty easy to avoid. Continue
along the path until you see a large set of breakable blocks in the ceiling
protected from underneath by an eel. Break the blocks while the eel is
retracted to avoid damage, then make your way up into the chasm to claim the
final **Energy Sphere** in this stage. While you're up here, the top corners
have food in them in you need it. Once you're satisfied, continue along the
path. The goal door is at the top-right of this area.
_____ _____
STAGE |___ \ __ |___ \
|__ (|__| |__ (
|_____/ |_____/ Energy Spheres: 4 [3-3]
Start this stage off by destroying the bomb block underwater, and heading down
through the current. Head to the left to find another waterfall; hug the right
wall this time to grab a red star. Down the next waterfall, stick to the left
to find a chamber protected by a stone block. Inside there are 14 star points,
and, more importantly, a Hammer copy essence. Once you have what you need,
head down the waterfall, and through the door at the bottom.
Hit the switch at the beginning here to cause the platforms here to
periodically open and close. The current in this area will constantly push you
to the right; you will need to control yourself so that you don't get squashed
between the platforms as you swim to the right. After the second set of
spikes, which accompanied by a set of five stars, wait for the lower platform
to move down, then enter the door hidden behind it. In here, jump into the
current, swim under the Gordo, then attempt to break the bomb block just above.
If you manage to hit it, you can grab the 1-up here; if you miss, you can
always try again. Whether you succeed or give up, head back through the door
you entered through. Once back in the main area, continue to the right,
avoiding the Gordos as you ride the current. In the next area, you have a
branching path. The top path is safer, but the bottom path contains 15 star
points to collect. Go through the door at the end of the area.
In the next shaft, locate the path with the good items, then follow it up to
the top as the current pushes you up, switching paths whenever there's a
horizontal section connecting the paths. Just in case you don't want to follow
it yourself, the correct path is the right one. As you travel down, you will
collect all of the items along the way. Both paths end at the same door; head
through to go to the next area.
Swim up to the surface here to grab a Maxim Tomato box, then continue to the
right. Once you pass a set of three star blocks, you will fight a Moundo.
Copy it once you defeat it to get the Stone ability (the Hammer ability won't
work, so make sure you actually copy Stone). Jump on top of the next set of
star blocks and use Stone to drop down to the bottom of the pool below. Your
weight will carry you below the current, where you will find an
**Energy Sphere**. Swim back out to the top, and continue to the right. You
can use the Stone ability to slide down the slope here, then go through the
door at the bottom.
The next room is another one of the follow-the-route-to-the-top puzzles.
You can either figure it out for yourself, or just take the right path to get
another **Energy Sphere**. Head through the door at the bottom once you're
done here.
Start to the right here, and you will start being pushed to the right. Try to
follow the path of stars to collect stars and food, and to avoid enemies.
There isn't anything exceedingly important to collect in this room, so don't
get too frustrated if you can't keep up with the path. You will find a door in
the bottom-right corner.
In the next room, you will immediately get the Monster Flame super ability.
The tower creatures here are only vulnerable when their mouths are open, and
the flashing stars are showing. Continue forward, timing your uses of Monster
Flame well in order to destroy the towers. Also note that the Monster Flame
ability can cut the thick rope holding up the hanging platform above the Waddle
Dee suits. When you reach the end, you will see a large octopus holding up a
beached ship. If you can hit the star-shaped scar on its forhead with Monster
Flame, it will reveal a dimensional rift.
Swim to the right here, picking up the stars along the way if you so desire.
When you reach the stone blocks, super inhale them, then exhale straight ahead
to clear the path forward. The exhaled star will move slowly through the
water, so don't get too far ahead of it. You should be able to follow it all
the way to the end of the area. The bomb block next to the door hides 14 star
points; grab them if you have time, then go through the door. This time you'll
be fighting an orange Sphere Doomer in an arena lined on both sides with water.
Grab the last two **Energy Spheres** once you defeat it, then jump into the
rift on the right. Drop through the two-way platform nearby to reach the goal
door.

STAGE |___ \ __ | |_| |
|__ (|__||___ |
|_____/ |_| Energy Spheres: 5 [3-4]
Start by diving downward, keeping in mind that if you want the stars, you will
have to release the enemies trapped by the bomb blocks. At the very bottom of
the room, hit the switch behind the breakable blocks on the left. This will
cause a path the rise out of the ground on the right. Follow it all the way to
the door.
Avoid the spinning saws in the next room as you head downward through the shaft
in this room. Grab the Parasol ability if you want, then continue down and to
the left. As the path turns back down, you will see a bomb block embedded in
the ceiling. Break it to reveal a path to a hidden door. Inside, hit the
switch on the floor to defeat the Waddle Dee suits, then wait for the platform
to reappear. Next, pull the switch on the ceiling to make the key drop down.
Grab it, making sure not to hit the switch on the way, or else the key will
drop into the water. Once you have the key, bring it to the gate on the left
to get an **Energy Sphere**. Once you have it, go back to the main area,
grabbing the Sword copy essence if you wish. Continue downward, dodging the
saws as you go.
In the next room, hit the switches to open the path to the right. When you see
some breakable blocks in the ceiling, you can break them to find a Water Galbo
and pancakes (yum) if you want them. After the third switch, there is an
obvious door to the right. You'll be able to see another sub-room to the right
here, but you won't be able to access it directly. Note where the door is on
the other side, as you will need to remember it. Grab the invincible candy,
then leave the way you came. If you look to the right, you will see another,
very well-hidden door on the other side of the wall. That's your target. Head
over there and enter to get to the other side of the room you were in before.
Hit the switch then swim up to the top to grab another **Energy Sphere**. Go
back into the main room, and continue right. After the next switch, you can go
up the chasm for a couple of pieces of meat and a sword enemy. One more
switch, and you'll be at the door to the next room.
This time, you'll be avoiding large, spiky shells. A bit forward, you can grab
a Spear copy essence under some breakable blocks. Continue upward, and hit the
red switch to open the gate ahead. The blue switch here will release the big
shell on the right, as well as open the path to the left. Quickly swim to the
left to outrun the shell, then continue onward. The chamber with the Gordo on
the right doesn't contain anything interesting besides a grape cluster. Outrun
the next shell until you see a gap in the floor; hide inside until the shell
passes over, then follow it to the right. The shell will break all of the gray
blocks in the right wall, revealing an **Energy Sphere**. Grab it, then
continue upward to the next door.
At the bottom of the first area in this room, you will find a new type of item,
the time bomb. Pick up the time bomb, then carry it all the way down the path
to the gray and yellow blocks. Once the bomb starts flashing, throw it, and it
will blow up the blocks, yielding a 1-up and a bunch of star points. Pick up
the next time bomb below. The switches here will cause platforms pop out;
hurry across before they disappear. You will come across a ladder going down;
don't yet climb down. Instead, continue left, and you come to a set of three
yellow blocks. Toss the bomb to get a Maxim Tomato and an **Energy Sphere**.
Now, feel free to head down the ladder that you passed to reach the door.
In the next area, you will be dealing with more eels. This time, however,
there are giant eels thrown into the mix. After the first giant eel, there is
a chamber hidden in the ceiling with food; there is also an enemy from which
you can, and should, grab Spear. Continue following the path to the right.
After the set of four bomb blocks is an open room. Head to the very top, and
hit the bomb block with your spear to open up a path to the fifth and final
**Energy Sphere**. Now, go to the bottom-right corner of this room, and break
the bomb block to continue forward. The bomb blocks in the next shaft will
reveal some star points, and the gaps they open in the wall are safe from the
eels. Break just one more bomb block at the top to make it to the goal door.

|__-__|-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The challenge stages, found in the right-most chamber on the Lor, are a series
of rooms that will really test your skills with the game's copy abilities. You
will be given a medal at the end of each of the challenges, based on your total
score. There are seven challenges:
[SWCHA] Sword Challenge: 7 Energy Spheres
[WPCHA] Whip Challenge: 25 Energy Spheres
[HJCHA] Hi-Jump Challenge: 35 Energy Spheres
[BMCHA] Bomb Challenge: 50 Energy Spheres
[WTCHA] Water Challenge: 70 Energy Spheres
[WGCHA] Wing Challenge: 90 Energy Spheres
[ITCHA] Item Challenge: 120 Energy Shperes
Of course, it will be important to know how many points you will earn for
stuff, so here are the point values of everything. All of the challenges are
scored identically. The first group is for things that will occur during the
challenge; bonuses after the break will be awarded on the results screen.
