Version History: V0001
--------------------------------------------------------------
Current Version = 2.04
(In order from 1st version to current)
V 0.1----04/20/09----I have started a new guide. I can't believe myself. I have
a basic layout idea for this guide and a list of most of the sections I would
like to include. Sections finished:
-Version History
-Introduction
-Vocabulary
-Why Make This Guide
-What you can contribute
-Possible Future Updates
-E-mail Information
-What's New to Harvest Moon?
-FAQ Section
-Harvest Moon Art Gallery
-My Other Guides
-Credits
-Legal Information
-The End
(Also finished some art for the top of the guide)
V 0.5----08/06/09----I added in a lot of new sections today. Some are still
missing a few parts (in the case of "Herbs" and "Plant Growth Times", a giant
chunk is still missing). I tweaked some of the sections that were already
written as well. I think it's time to try and upload this! Sections added:
What are they useful for?
The Most Useful Wild Plants (IMO)
Wild Plants as Gifts
Wild Plant Prices
Plant Growth Times
Wild Plant Locations
Herbs (And Growing Them)
Mushrooms
Other Wild Forage
In-Game Plant Descriptions
What do they look like? (Version REJECTED!)
V 1.0----08/08/09----Lots of minor and major things updated. I fixed a bunch of
words, added 5 missing pieces of information, added the name of the forest
behind the Carpenter's (Praline Forest), and added 2 more herb growth locations.
Also, I've spellchecked the whole guide. Sections added:
Cooking with Wild Plants
Dyeing with Wild Plants
-Herb Growth Speed Subsection
-How to Grow Herbs Subsection
I have basically added everything that I originally intended to. The only things
I'm missing from my original idea of the guide are the in-game and personal
coconut descriptions, which I hope someone can help me with. So, the guide has
reached what I had hoped for. From this point on, we move to an even better and
unimagined guide, version 2.0, if that's even possible. (Version ACCEPTED!)
V 1.1----08/10/09----My guide was accepted! This update is largely fixing up old
bits of the guide, but there are some new things as well. First of all, I've
gone through and confirmed a bunch of bits of the guide, and I've fixed up a few
spellings and such. The new things include a whole new bunch of notes in the
Cooking section about the quality of your dish, as well as notes about 3 new
"Wild Plants." There are some notes about weeds, and I've added Algae and Bamboo
Shoot to the wild plant list.
V 1.2----08/13/09----A couple days later and I've got a new update! I've finally
got all the coconut information! I've added 2 new recipes and fixed info on 2
other ones. Also, I wrote a new section: "Wild Plants in Rainbow Recipes". The
cooking section is now organized alphabetically and by price for those
looking for the most profitable wild plant recipes.
V 1.3----09/09/09----I've decided to add seashells, clams, and pearls to the
guide for convenience. This meant an update to the recipes section (6 new
recipes), an update to the gifts section, and updates to the price and
descriptions sections. Thanks to Rin for the idea to add these to my guide.
V 1.4----01/14/10----This is a big update (and it's 2010!). I received an
e-mail from Honorelle with some information for my guide, and I ended up adding
all of her helpful information as well as adding sections that I've been
planning on adding for some time now. My coconut information is almost complete,
stamina recovery values for wild forage was added to the guide, the new "Growing
Fruit Trees" section is up, the cooking section now has the recipes ordered by
Stamina Recovery, and lots of minor changes to the layout and legal information
section.
V 1.5----04/06/10----About a month and half ago, I decided to start working on
the next version of this guide. I started to type out the "Wild Plant Recipes as
Gifts" section, and then I realized what a huge project it was. At that point, I
gave up and left it alone. Now I came back and decided to brute force through
the work. Now you have a brand new section to peruse. I made a few other minor
changes, and the layout of the "Wild Plants as Gifts" section was changed
slightly to accommodate the new section.
V 1.6----08/02/10----I've added the recipes in order by their respective
utensils now. I made a few other tiny changes to the layout and wording of the
cooking section, mostly to accommodate for this new sub-section. By the way, all
my guides together have now garnered over 100,000 views!
V 1.61----08/23/10----www.Gamershell.com is now allowed to host my guide!
V 1.7----03/16/11----The cooking section can now be browsed by ingredient! This
is the final way I wanted to reorganize the cooking section. Also, I fixed a
glaring typo! One final note: this guide just hit 10,000 views! Whoo!
V 1.8----04/16/11----I got an e-mail from mister_jmp about a mistake and a
misleading statement in the guide, as well as a confirmation of the coconut
description. I fixed and added things accordingly. I also went through the guide
and tried to remove some extra spaces to make the whole guide a little shorter,
and I even started some preliminary re-writing of some sections. I added on some
notes about getting items from moles, and I also removed an old FAQ question
because it was redundant and useless.
V 1.9----07/12/12----This update was focused on rewriting the guide and making
it more concise. Most sections have been partially rewritten for clarity and
brevity, and I also decided to toss out the Art Gallery section. It was a
complete was of space that showcased nothing worthwhile. Consider this a beta
release of version 2.0. I'm going to let the guide sit for a little while and
see if any new stuff comes to light, and then I want to make the few last
adjustments and release V2.0.
V 2.0----07/30/12----I've cleaned up the last few things, and even shortened the
version history a little bit. The guide has reached a point that I never
expected it to. This will likely be one of the last major updates ever, but who
knows. I've said that before and been proven very wrong! Thanks to all of you
that read and use this guide!
V 2.01----09/08/12----I changed a bit of outdated info, fixed two typos, and
changed some wording and spacing to make everything more consistent.
V 2.02----01/15/13----Updated the guide for a 2013 copyright.
V 2.03----06/22/14----Minor formatting changes and an update of the copyright.
(Current)
V 2.04----01/07/15----Update of the copyright.
Wow, I'm writing another guide. After the first four guides, I told
myself that I wasn't going to write anymore guides. BUT, I got into playing
Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility, and I saw that DetroitDJ had written guides
about just about everything except Wild Plants. That convinced me that it was
time to write another guide, and here it is :). Enjoy!
My guide uses a few abbreviations and some slang, so I've included this
short section to help clear up what those things mean.

---------------------------------
Why Make This Guide W0004
---------------------------------
I made this guide for the following reasons:
1) I love foraging in Harvest Moon Games
2) Wild Plants can be very useful
3) All HM:ToT guides were written by DetroitDJ, so I wanted to mix things up
4) The Wild Plant topic was not covered by any other HM:ToT guide
5) To practice my writing skills
6) Some sick, twisted form of fun
----------------------------------
What You Can Contribute W0005
----------------------------------
You guys can help make this guide better! Missing or misleading
information, questions, typos, and even comments are all good reasons to send me
an e-mail! (I will credit you!)
Here are some things you can help me out with:
-I need someone with a coconut in their inventory to check the in-game
description and send that to me, because I have 2 different ones. Thanks!
-I need someone to check the entire Wild Plants as Gifts section.
-*IMPORTANT* I need someone to check the entire Wild Plant Recipes as Gifts
section and make sure that all of the information is correct. All the recipes
that I include in there come from my Cooking with Wild Plants section, and you
can use DetroitDJ's guide and compare it with mine to see if you find any
inconsistencies.
-Does a wild plant (such as an herb) grown on your farm have a different selling
value than one harvested from the wild?
----------------------------------
Possible Future Updates F0006
----------------------------------
This is where I list out all of my ideas for future updates to this
guide. It has grown quite small over the years, but that might be a good thing
:). If you have any other suggestions, feel free to e-mail them to me!

What's New to HM:ToT? W0008
-------------------------------------
With every new Harvest Moon game, there are some changes. This is a list
of changes to the wild plants and foraging of ToT as compared to some of the
previous iterations of Harvest Moon.
-As flowers no longer grow in the wild, they are no longer Wild Plants
-Herbs can now be used for dying yarn and wool
-Mushrooms grow both outside and in caves
-Since weeds can't be picked up or sold, they are no longer considered Wild
Plants, but I've still included some notes about them in the guide
-Wild Plants "grow" randomly in specific areas
-Certain Wild Plants no longer grow during certain seasons. The same ones are
found every season (including winter)
-One can no longer use wild plants for hybridization (or do hybridization of any
kind for that matter)
What Are They Useful For? W0009
___________________________________________________________
The wild plants of Waffle Island are useful for many things. I discuss
their different uses in detail in the rest of the guide, but here is a general
overview of their uses.
The Most Useful Wild Plants (in my opinion) W0010
___________________________________________________________
The game is FULL of wild plants. Here is a list of what I believe to be
the three most useful wild plants in HM:ToT.
==============================
The Top 3 Most Useful Plants:
==============================
-Herbs
-Mushroom
-Shining Bamboo Root
Herbs are probably the most useful wild plants. They are used in recipes
(like Good Herb Fish, which is also needed for a rainbow recipe), they can be
sold, they can be eaten, they can be used as gifts (Renee likes yellow herbs),
and they can be used to dye your yarns (therefore increasing their value). Of
the herbs, this makes blue herbs the most useful.
Mushrooms are probably the next best. You can find truckloads of these
in either of the mines (Floor 19 of Ganache mine and floor 36 of Gelato mine
always have mushrooms and toadstools in huge quantities). A decent load of these
can get you around 2,000 G in a single day. They can also be eaten, and prove to
be very useful for stamina while mining.
The shining bamboo root comes in third in my humble opinion. It's worth
quite a few G, and it can be used in some recipes!
Wild Plants as Gifts G0011
___________________________________________________________
Wild Plants can be used as gifts for many villagers. Here is a list of
all the villagers that like wild forage as gifts. There are so many people and
wild plants that I'm not sure if I got them all, so if you know something I
don't, please send me an e-mail!
For the recipes that involve wild plants that can be used as gifts, check the
next section, "Wild Plant Recipes as Gifts".
*Note* Everyone will accept your gifts whether they like them or not. This list
specifically details only the villagers that will like or love these gifts.
Wild Plant Recipes as Gifts G0012
___________________________________________________________
This section lists out which recipes containing wild plants can be used
as gifts for certain villagers. Check out some of these notes below before
delving into this lengthy list.
-For dishes with different qualities, D = Decent
G = Good
P = Perfect
S = Shining
-When villagers like a dish of a certain quality, they will like all dishes of
that quality and higher qualities automatically. I only list the first quality
at which they begin to like a dish in order to conserve space.
Ex: Angie likes Herb Fish (D). This means that she likes decent herb fish, as
well as all the higher qualities (so in this case, Angie likes Herb Fish of all
qualities).
-Sardine/Saury Tomato Stew refers to two different dishes (Sardine Tomato Stew
and Saury Tomato Stew). If a villager likes one, then they automatically like
the other dish.
*Note* Everyone will accept your gifts whether they like them or not. This list
specifically details only the villagers that will like or love these gifts.

Plant Growth Times R0014
___________________________________________________________
All of the wild plants grow randomly, though I believe that the ones on
the Gull Islands and Toucan Island take even longer to grow back. The square
next to Hamilton's house and the spot in front of the hospital produce an
occasional herb, but they are few and far between.
+---------------------------------------------------------+
| Farmed Herb Growth Information |
+---------------------------------------------------------+
when you grow your own herbs, they take a little while to grow. Here is
a chart copied from the Herb Growing Section detailing those growth rates.
There are many locations where wild plants grow, but they only grow in
specific areas on the map. I have listed out the locations where wild plants and
forage grow below.
-Pontata Roots on your farmland are rare! You can supposedly dig them up with
your hoe, but I've never found one that way personally.
-Algae can only be obtained by fishing.
-Normal Bamboo Shoots can only be bought. They are sold for 315G from the Spring
and Summer Flea Markets.

The game has 5 different herbs. They are, in my opinion, the most useful
of all the wild plants. They can be found in places all over the island, they
can make you money, you can eat them, you can cook with them, you can give them
away as gifts, you can use them to dye your wool and yarn, and you even need
some for Rainbow recipes. You can even buy herb seeds and grow them yourself!

In Harvest Moon:ToT, you can purchase herb seeds and grow your own herbs
(instead of foraging for them). Seeds are planted in a 1x6 area, and can only be
harvested once. Different herbs grow in different seasons. Since you can walk on
crops now, there is no need to make rows, though it's still simpler to do so for
access reasons. I often grow the crops in rows, such as this:

lists related to buying, planting, growing, and selling herbs.
-All herb seeds can be bought at the Flower Festival
This game has a disappointingly low variety of mushrooms. There are two,
and one of them is poisonous. For reasons unknown, the poisonous one is worth
more.

mushrooms will reappear on the 19th floor for the Ganache mine and on the 36th
floor of Gelato mine.***
Other Wild Forage F0018
___________________________________________________________
This game has a LOT of wild forage that doesn't fall into the Mushroom
or Herb category. Not all of these can be eaten. I've also included shells and
pearls for convenience.
Some of the fruits can also be grown on your farm.

Also, there are 6 dishes in the game which can be decent, good, perfect,
or shining quality. The quality of the dish depends on the sum of the value of
the ingredients used. This guide has 4 of those dishes, and luckily, they all
need the same value to reach the next level of quality. Also, Herb Fish allows
for more than one fish to be used in the recipe, so use that trick to help boost
the ingredient value. Here are more charts dealing with this:

Dyeing with Wild Plants D0020
___________________________________________________________
Herbs can be used to dye your yarns and raise their selling values.
Flowers can also be used, but because they aren't actually considered wild
plants in this game, I'm only going to talk about dyeing with herbs. The color
of the herb determines the color of the dye for your yarn. A dyeing pot comes
with your purchase of a yarn maker (sold at the General Store for 4500G).
-Each herb will only dye 1 yarn, and the herb will disappear afterward
-Dyeing yarn removes its quality, so it only sells according to the color

So basically, if you have any type of shining yarn, it is only worth it
to dye it blue, otherwise sell it un-dyed!

Growing Fruit Trees T0022
___________________________________________________________
Since many wild fruits can be found on West Gull Island, growing fruit
trees counts as growing wild fruit. There are five kinds of fruit trees that can
be grown, and trees can produce regular or shining fruit. Seedlings can be
bought in any season from Souffle Farm or Taylor's Seeds.
***If there are 2 values in a category, the first is for the regular quality and
the second is for the shining quality.***
***Trees can be planted in any season, but they only produce fruit in a certain
season (no trees bear fruit in Winter).***
***Trees will produce shining and regular fruit randomly. There is no way to
make the tree produce more shining fruit!***

*A regular Apple is also required for Daren's Rainbow Recipe (Red).
Most trees have their advantages and disadvantages. Cherry (Mora) trees
make the most money, but have no recipes that can be made from their fruit.
Chestnuts, on the other hand, sell for the least, but can be used in many
recipes.
Trees must be planted in the middle of 3x3 squares. Nothing can be in
any of these squares, or the tree will never mature, and it may not even be able
to drop its fruit, so just keep the square around the tree clean at all times.
To make sure you're planting the tree correctly, just till a 3x3 area of land
and plant the tree in the very center. Here is a diagram:
========================
My low quality diagram:
========================
Trees take about 2 seasons to mature completely. They have 4 stages of
growth, and each stage lasting about 2 weeks. They can begin to produce fruit as
early as stage 2, but they will produce much more fruit as they get bigger.
Trees are permanent, unlike crops, so they can make quite a profit. I
would suggest planting some trees if you have the money!

===========================================================
Q: Can you hybrid wild plants in this game?
A: Nope, you can't hybrid at all! Hybridizing is unique to Harvest Moon:
A Wonderful Life & Another Wonderful life.
===========================================================
Q: Aqlex239, write more guides!!!!!11!!11!11113
A: No.
===========================================================
Q: Will I be credited if you put my question into this guide?
A: Yes, if you give me the name you'd like to be credited by. I will
also remove it or not put it in if you don't want your name displayed publicly
or don't want to receive credit.
===========================================================
Q: Can you grow wild plants?
A: You can grow herbs. Check the "Herbs (and growing them)" section.
===========================================================
Q: Where do I find a normal Bamboo Shoot?! I can only find Shining ones!
A: For some reason, only Shining ones grow at the base of Mt. Gelato.
The only way to get your hands on a normal one is to buy one from Simon at the
Spring or Summer Flea Market for 315G.
===========================================================
Q: Is there a way to get seeds without buying them?
A: Nope, there is no seed maker in this game.
===========================================================
Q: How can I make my tree produce more shining fruit?
A: Once the tree is fully mature, there is nothing else you can do to
make the tree produce more shining fruit. It doesn't even matter what type of
soil you plant it in.
===========================================================
Q: Where do I get a dyeing pot from?
A: They come with the purchase of a yarn maker (which can be purchased
for 4500 G from the General Store).
