Endless Ocean: Blue World Private Reef Guide
V 1.0 November, 2010
Endless Ocean lets you to exercise your creativity by building and
populating your own private reef. Choose corals and decorative items that
will attract the most fish, or find out what items will bring your favorite
fish and animals to your reef.
You can build a reef that will attract over 500 fish for less than 10,000 P.
Since you get 10 P for each fish released from the private reef as well as
the payment for curing them, it can pay for itself in just a few releases.

-----> Buying items <-------
------------------------------
Call Nancy. Choose "buy items", then the Island and Reef tab. More items will
become available as you progress through the game. The staghorn coral, cat's
paw, barrel sponge, Venus' basket, moon coral, pillar, casks, and many of the
decorative items are given to you free.
See ac_helper's Item FAQ for details on how to get each item.
The price is not related to the item's value in attracting fish to your reef.
Some of the most expensive items only attract one fish, such as the 2500 P
breakwater. Some of the cheaper items will attract 10 or more fish, and
placing 7 or 10 of the same item on your reef will often get you an
additional school of fish.
A 920 P table coral attracts 55 fish when you place 7 of them. Giant clams
cost 1700 P but 8 of them will net you 90 fish. Other good buys are
elkhorn A or B, pillar coral, sea pen, red sea whip, red whip coral, soft
coral, kelp B or D, eelgrass C or D, and reef tires.
You only have to pay for each item once, and can then place as many copies
of it on your reef as you like.
--------------------
Here is a list of each item available, how much it costs, the approximate
amount of space needed (which varies depending on where you put it),
how many fish it attracts, and how many of the item you need to place to
get each additional school of fish.

-----> Placing items on reef <-----
---------------------------------------
There are 157 placement circles on the rock and 37 on the sand.
Move your diver to view the area where you want to place items.
Click button 1 on remote, then select an item to be placed. Items with a
green background can only be placed on rock, those with beige background
only on sand. If you cannot select the item you want (square is grayed out),
click the minus button, reposition your diver to get a better view of the
sand or rock, then try again.
You can place as many copies of an item as you have room for, but there is
generally no advantage to placing more than one copy of an item unless you
have room for enough of them to attract a second school of fish (usually 7
or 10 depending on the item).
Blue circles are available spaces for the currently selected item.
If there are no blue spaces, try picking an item that needs less space, or
move to a different area.
To selectively remove existing items to free up space, click on the "Remove"
button (last square on the right) then click on the item(s) you wish to
delete.
Click on "Remove All" (3rd square on right) to clear the entire reef and
start over.
You can place an item in a yellow circle, but it will delete something else.
The items that go dark when the cursor is over the yellow circle will
disappear when the new item is placed.
The number of spaces required will vary depending on where you place
the item (numbers on the chart are approximations). Try to put the biggest
items at the edge of the rock. Place large and medium size items first then
fill in with the smallest items.
Click on "Autoplace" (2nd square on the right) to have the computer randomly
furnish your reef. You can move and change individual items after autoplacing.
--------------------------------
-----> Attracting Fish <------
--------------------------------
To get the most fish in the shortest time (100 or more per visit) you need to
have a VARIETY of items including those that attract large numbers of fish.
Fish numbers are not directly proportional to the number of items. Generally,
placing additional copies of an item has no effect on fish numbers until you
have 7 or 10 of the same item, then you get another school.
The number in parentheses is the number of additional fish you get and the
total number of that item that you must have placed.
For instance, 5 oriental butterflyfish (+35 with 7) means that you get 5 fish
for placing one elkhorn coral and 35 additional fish when you place the
seventh elkhorn coral OF THE SAME LETTER. Elkhorns A, B, C,and D look very
similar and attract the same kind of fish, but each one is treated as a
separate variety in this game.
For sand items in the last column you must place 3 or 4 of the SAME decorative
item to attract one animal. You can't mix and match (the house and breakwaters
to get the sailfish, for instance) and you can't get any more animals by
placing more than 3 of the same item.
Some exceptions are:
Dolphins - up to 3 dolphins, 4 of each kind of hoop gets you a dolphin.
Cornetfish - 1 with 1 cask, 5 with 2 casks, and 10 with 3 casks.
Green sea turtle - 1 for each pillar, up to 3 turtles.
------
After placing desired items on reef, leave and come back (you can return to
the boat and rest until the next day, or go do other missions). When you
return to the reef you will have lots of new fish but some of them will be
sick. Use the pulsar on every fish with a reticule as well as any others you
can get a lock on. Swim around to make sure you got all of the sick fish.
Then feed the fish.
It usually takes 5 or 6 visits to get the maximum number of fish. Pulsing
really makes a big difference in how quickly the reef populates, feeding
helps but not as much.
The reef is mature if there are no fish with reticules when you enter and
activate the pulsar. It has now reached its maximum capacity and feeding or
pulsing the fish has no effect on numbers.
You can make changes to the reef, even remove everything and start over, and
as long as you don't release the existing fish, you will instantly have all
of the fish for the new mix of items the next time you enter the reef
(easiest way is to swim south out to the atoll then turn around and swim
east back into the reef). All of the fish associated with items you removed
will be gone.
------------------------------
-----> Releasing fish <-----
------------------------------
You must have at least 200 fish before you can release any. The number of
fish currently on your reef is shown on bar graph in lower right. You are
not limited to 500 as shown on the scale (I have 685 fish on my reef).
Click button 1 (as if placing items) then click on top right square to
release fish.
You get 10 P for each fish released, and the Fish Liberator title when you
have released 5000.
