The legendary Z fighters & the most evil of villans in the galaxy return in
spike's latest creation in the Tenkaichi series, Dragon Ball Z Budokai
Tenkaichi 3 on the ps2. New moves, new stages, new characters, & a whole new
soundtrack to boot, what more could you want from the latest DBZ game? I've
decided to get some character FAQ's done due to my recent haitus period from
walkthroughs (many of which still need to be finished!) whilst i've also been
doing other projects & getting chance to enjoy some awesome & dare i say
classic retro gaming ^_^
This walkthrough is a character FAQ & due to the numerous new moves, & tweaks
to the tenkaichi combat system, the FAQ has been primarily composed for the
purpose of getting the most if not the best out of your chosen character/s.
The character FAQ is for newcomers, beginners, & experts alike & I do hope you
will find it a useful resource for this amazing game, so let's get started
Tien is a serious warrior hailing from the Crane School, Initially Tien was
a pretty bad guy, esentially working as Hired muscle.
In the World Tournament, he broke Yamcha's leg during thier match just for
the sake of being cruel.
By the end of his match with Goku, however, Tien had learned the error of
his ways, he had a falling out with his teacher, the Crane hermit, Master
Shen, and he and Chiaotzu left the Crane School forever.
After that Tien devoted himself to becoming stronger. To that end he and
Chiaotzu travel the world on various training missions, however when the
Earth is in danger, he will always rush back to join his friends on the
battlefield.
In the early days, the wild Launch developed a bit of an infatuation with
Tien, and she continues to chase him wherever he goes. This could be one
reason Tien chooses to move from place to place so frequantly...
In spite of what is said about Tien (usually stupid critisisms) he has the
potential to become the strongest, yes strongest character in DBZ:BT3. His
moves are highly useful & allow him to make the most if not the best of any
combat situation, especially his ultimate move Neo Ki blast cannon which at
the small cost of some of Tien's health can pretty much analiate any character
in this game (it's really that powerful!)
Tien has a good balance of attack power & speed & his dragon rush can be
very powerful when in max power mode, solar flare also suprises your opponents
giving you an opportunity to unleash a combo or make a hasty retreat to plan
your next phase of attack. Tien's counter allows him to take a crane like
stance poised to heavly counter the enemy should they hit you with a rush
attack. There is great potential in Tien & he is an invaluable asset in team
battles, Tien's moveset requires a fair amount of Ki but in exchange for this
they are unsurpassed by many lower tier & even some mid tier characters in
DBZ:BT3. The first time you use Tien can be a little tricky & his first major
battle takes place in the Sayian saga against Nappa, give Tien a chance & you
never know you may decide he becomes one of your main choices on the character
select screen or at least a firm favourite at the very least.

You are very welcome to choose your own potara's to equip, here i've simply
given a recomendation of how Tien should be equipped to make full use of
his moves & abilities.
Custom 1
A) Master Roshi's training
------------------------------------
B) Attack up 2
------------------------------------
C) Super up 1
------------------------------------
D) Active heart
------------------------------------
E) Rising fighting spirit
This custom setup allows Tien to increase his attack & also his health
thanks to the Master Roshi's training potara, his super capability is
also increased giving his special moves greater power, active heart will
give Tien a better rise in Ki when he performs his rush attack & lastly
the rising fighting spirit will allow Tien to start any battle in max power
mode although i wouldn't use his Neo-tri beam unless you are sure you can
nail the enemy right off the bat.
Custom 2
A) Dende's Healing Ability
-------------------------------------
B) Master Roshi's training
-------------------------------------
C) Attack up 1
-------------------------------------
D) Super up 2
This setup boosts Tien's attack, health, & super abilities once again but this
time you now have a way of counter-acting Neo-tri beams health draining due to
the Potara's slow increase in health recovery, now how cool is that! This
setup is a must for those utilizing Tien's special moves.
Custom 3
A) Master Roshi's Training
-------------------------------------
B) Defense up 1
-------------------------------------
C) Warriors Will
-------------------------------------
D) Super up 1
-------------------------------------
E) Attack up 2
-------------------------------------
Tien's health is boosted as per usual, his defense increased & his attack
power even more so, his super also increases enhancing his special moves while
Warriors will allows Tien to take on only half damage when guarding against Ki
blasts, energy blasts & other attacks except for example unblockable attacks.
Other Potara's you may find useful for Tien include:
> The best postion do perform Neo-Ki blast cannon is when you
have knocked your opponent to the ground & they lie motionless
but before they get back up hit them with this technique to cause
maximum damage potential!
> After landing a Tri-attack on your opponent you have the advantage,
go for your most powerful special move available to you at the time
to deal damage to your opponent without fear of a counter attack!
> Using wild sense will allow for an instant counter attack when you press the
circle button & your opponent hits you with a rush or counter attack, beware
that it is not the same as Afterimage & cannot avoid Ki/energy blasts via
teleport
> Tien's solar flare is very useful, if successful you will blind your
opponent temporarily which gives you those vital few seconds to quickly
recharge Ki or pull of a major attack with your opponent completely
helpless. Solar flare also deflects normal charged Ki blasts back at
the opponent who launched them, a very handy technique to have!
Red Potara are special from ordinary potara, they grant super enhanced
properties & cannot be obtained by normal means like your standard potara
used to customize your fighters through evolution Z. In order to obtain
the red potara you must "cheat" so to speak, go to the 'data centre' on
the main menu & then input the following password:
gTRYn hpJgn G)9%6 7H
&DyVf bbBYp 09hSf G7
Now on the character select screen under password character you will have
a Tien, but not just any Tien oh no! This is a super Tien with stats
pushed far beyond normal limits, have fun trashing any opponent with the
stoic crane warrior.
I should also mention that you will only be able to use red potara characters
in duel & ultimate battle modes, which does take a little of the fun out of it
but it's another extra feature you can use to see Tien at his most powerful!
A. Tien's fighting style is best suited to veteran players however in
order to fully master his style like other hard to use/control
characters i'd reccommend the use of 'ultimate training to better
get to grips with all selected characters including Tien.
Q. Neo Ki blast cannon rocks! but the health loss really sucks...
A. True but think of the power you are getting from this move, you can
to a degree at least make up for the health loss by equipping Dende's
Healing Ability potara. This slowly recovers Tien's health & will at
least counter-act the loss of health somewhat of this insanely powerful
technique.
