Hi. This will be my first FAQ for DBZ:BT2, so I decided the best character to
start with would be Goku. Spoilers for DB, DBZ, DBZ Movies, and DBGT are in
this FAQ. If you do not want to know about events in those areas, stop reading
now. You have been warned.

4. Why a Goku FAQ?[WAGF]
-----------------------------------------
I decided to write a Goku FAQ because he is one of the most popular characters
in DBZ. I was shocked when I saw that no one wrote a Goku FAQ, so I took the
opportunity to write one. I hope you like it!
We first see this form of Goku before the World Tournament where he fights
Piccolo (Majunior). He is in this form from that point on to GT, where he
becomes a kid again. He is the strongest character in DBZ and the only one to
achieve all 3(4 if you count GT) Super Saiyan levels. He rarely fights in his
base form when he learns how to transform into a SSJ at will. This form of
Goku is unlocked at the start.
Goku has six outfits in the game:
1. Orange Gi with Blue undershirt, boots, and wrist bands. No Kanji
2. Same as 1, except for the Kanji for "Kame" on his back.
3. Same as 1, except for the Kanji for "Kaio" on his back.
4. Same as 1, except for the Kanji for "Go" on his back.
5. Battle Damaged Goku. His Gi is torn, but his undershirt is there. His
outfit is dirtied, with some holes in his pants legs and scratches across his
body
6. Severely Damaged Goku. Now, his blue shirt is torn in half, leaving a part
of his upper body exposed. Even more cuts are on his pant legs, and even more
dirt and scratches on his body.
5.1 Character Illustration
Here is Goku's Character Illustration:
Voice: Sean Schemmel
This is the strong young man named Goku.
As a Saiyan baby, he was sent from the planet Vegeta to destroy the planet
Earth. However, an unexpected head injury caused his Saiyan characteristics to
disappear. Instead of an evil beast, he grew up as a kind-hearted Earthling
under the care of his loving foster father, Grandpa Gohan.
When his older brother Raditz arrives on Earth and reminds Goku of his
original mission, Goku refuses to carry out the task, instead choosing to
fight for the good of Earth.
From then on, Goku's job as the world's greatest defender becomes increasingly
difficult as he is faced with many dark and formidable enemies, one after
another.
No matter how large the crisis, he never gives up, and his loyalty to the good
to the good of all people and to his friends makes him the ultimate hero.
However, since Goku spends his days fighting evil, this makes life tricky for
his wife, Chi-Chi, forcing her to be the family breadwinner in an effort to
make ends meet.
In Dragonball GT, Goku once again travels deep into space with Trunks and Pan
to defend the world on an adventure that puts the entire universe in his hands.
5.2 Move Set
Here is where I will list the Blast 1, Blast 2, and Ultimate Blast attacks.
For any of the combos that are in the Skill List, consult the Skill List
Blast 1:
L2 + Circle: Give Me Energy (Costs 2 Blast Stocks)
Rating: 2/5 Damage: 0
I never liked this move. It is used to set-up for the Spirit Bomb. However,
once you unlock the higher forms of Goku, there is no point in using this form
of Goku. For as long as you have this form of Goku, only use this move and the
Spirit Bomb when you can afford it or when it fits into your strategy.
This is in another category of moves I do not like. It gives Goku a red aura
and boosts his Ki attacks, physical attack, and defense. However, it
constantly drain your Ki until you have none left. The one good thing that
this move can do is that when used in conjunction with the Kaio-Ken Attack, the
damage is doubled. This is the only thing that saves the move and is a pretty
good effect at that.
Blast 2:
L2 + Triangle: Kamehameha (Costs 3 Ki Bars; Chargeable Ki Wave)
Rating: 4/5 Damage: 4,800-8,640 (Non-Charged to Fully Charged)
This is my favorite move. He can charge for up to 2 seconds, then he
automatically launches it. The longer it is charged, the more damage it does.
Also, if the opponent launches a wave at you, you can counter them with this
move. The one flaw would be that you have to charge it for a bit to do some
good damage.
L2 + Up + Triangle: Kaio-Ken Attack (Costs 3 Ki Bars; Rush Type)
Rating: 5/5 Damage: 6,010
This is his best move. In this game, you do not need to be in the Kaio-Ken
form to use, making this move much more accessible and easy to use at any time.
And with the new improvements made to the Rush attacks(ability to steer while
rushing), this move is perfect to use when in a tight spot.
Ultimate Blast:
L2 + Down + Triangle: Spirit Bomb (Costs entire Ki Gauge; Special Energy Ball)
Rating: 3/5 Damage: 16,950-33,750 (1 Give Me Energy to 3 Give Me Energy's)
This move is in a special category. When you initiate it(after using Give Me
Energy), Goku teleports up toward the sky. Then, he launches the Spirit Bomb.
Unlike the last game, the Spirit Bomb homes in on the opponent. However, for
a move that costs your whole Ki Gauge, it has very short range, evaporating
after awhile of chasing the opponent. It should only be used when you are sure
it will connect.
--------------------------------------
6. Super Saiyan Goku[SSJG]
--------------------------------------
We first see this form of Goku when Frieza kills Krillin and wounds Piccolo.
This is the most commonly used form of Goku, with him using it in almost every
fight afterwards. To unlock this form of Goku, play through the Namek Saga in
Dragon Adventure Mode until you reach a cutscene which shows Frieza killing
Krillin.
Note: If you use Outfit 6 with Super Saiyan Goku, his hair will be a golden
color, instead of the normal yellow hair color.
6.1 Character Illustration
Here is Super Saiyan Goku's Character Illustration:
Voice: Sean Schemmel
The first time Dad ever became a Super Saiyan, it was when Frieza killed
Krillin.
As a Super Saiyan he looked different and his power level raised to almost 50
times normal.
That first time was scary, since no one knew what was happening to him. It was
like he had some sort of strange sickness that came from his Saiyan blood. The
more emotional and angry Dad got, the more his odd Saiyan powers would take
over his body.
Oh, and Mom doesn't seem to like Super Saiyans very much.
A Unique version of Afterimage, he attacks after dodging the attack. Very
useful when in a tight spot and very cool when you start to get the hang of
using the move. However, it takes up too many Blast stocks to be too useful in
a fight.
Same as the Kaio-Ken, except it doesn't increase defense. It also
gives you a "brickwall" defense, where characters of your power cannot
make you flinch with ordinary attacks. I never used this move.
Blast 2:
L2 + Triangle: Angry Kamehameha (Costs 3 Ki Bars; Chargeable Ki Wave)
Rating: 4/5 Damage: 5,040-10,010
Same as Goku's Kamehameha, but stronger.
L2 + Up + Triangle: Meteor Smash (Costs 3 Ki Bars; Rush Type)
Rating: 5/5 Damage: 10,030
Same as Goku's Kaio-Ken, only slower. The dash lasts longer than
that of the Kaio-Ken's as well.
Ultimate Blast:
L2 + Down + Triangle: Instant Kamehameha (Costs 4 Ki Bars; Rush Type)
Rating: 5/5 Damage: 14,020
This is his best move. Does huge damage and looks very cool in this game. It
is sure to connect since he has a long enough range and moves faster when
in the Rush state for this move.
-----------------------------------------
7. Super Saiyan 2 Goku[SSJ2G]
-----------------------------------------
We first see this form of Goku when he fights Majin Vegeta in the Buu Saga. We
only see this form again when Goku is demonstrating the Super Saiyan forms to
Buu. To unlock this form of Goku, play through the Buu Saga in Dragon Adventure
Mode, until you fight Majin Vegeta as this form.
7.1 Character Illustration
Here is Super Saiyan 2 Goku's Character Illustration:
Voice: Sean Schemmel
Goku transforms from Super Saiyan into this form. After training in Other
World, he achieved the ability to transform into Super Saiyan 2.
A Super Saiyan's distinctive change is more pronounced, and his power rises
further.
In the duel with Majin Vegeta, who had powered up thanks to Babidi's magic,
Goku changed into this form and showed an extraordinary power.
Whenever he uses this move, the opponent loses his lock-on, and you appear
behind them. From there, you could hit him with a Kamehameha. It does have
it's uses, but a bit of a waste unless you are in trouble.
L2 + Up + Circle: Full Power (Costs 3 Blast Stocks)
Rating: 3/5 Damage: 0
Same as Saiyan Soul and Kaio-Ken, except for the fact that you automatically
go into MAX Power state after using the move. Also, if the opponent is
near you, they will be stunned by the move.
Blast 2:
L2 + Triangle: Kamehameha (Costs 3 Ki Bars; Chargeable Ki Wave)
Rating: 4/5 Damage: 6,000-11,400
Same as Goku's Kamehameha, only stronger.
L2 + Up + Triangle: Meteor Smash (Costs 4 Ki Bars; Rush Type)
Rating: 5/5 Damage: 11,530
Same as SSJ Goku's Meteor Smash, only stronger.
Ultimate Blast:
L2 + Down + Triangle: Super Kamehameha (Costs entire Ki Gauge; normal Ki Wave)
Rating: 3/5 Damage: 14,800
I do not like to use this move. It costs your entire Ki gauge to do a powered
up version of the Kamehameha that is weaker than the Spirit Bomb. It is useful
for awhile, but soon you will realize the mistake you made by using it.
-----------------------------------------
8. Super Saiyan 3 Goku[SSJ3G]
-----------------------------------------
We first see this form of Goku when he is stalling Buu for Trunks to get the
Dragon Radar. This form is Goku's strongest form in DBZ. However, it consumes
a large amount of energy in the anime. Because of this, it is hard to charge
energy in this game using this form. In the anime, Goku uses this form 4 times:
against Majin Buu, against Kid Buu, against Janemba, and against Hirudegarn.
To unlock this form of Goku, play through the Buu Saga in Dragon Adventure
Mode until you have to fight Majin Buu as Goku.
8.1 Character Illustration
Here is Super Saiyan 3 Goku's Character Illustration:
Voice: Sean Schemmel
This is the form that surpasses Super Saiyan 2. In this form, the hidden power
in a Saiyan's blood is taken to its limits.
At first glance, this is an extreme change when compared to a regular Super
Saiyan. The eyebrows disappear and the hair grows even longer. The power of a
Super Saiyan 3 is far greater than any Saiyan level before.
However, the transformation requires a lot of energy. Only in Other World can
a Saiyan keep his power for a long period of time. Anywhere else, the time a
Saiyan can stay at the Super Saiyan 3 level is very short.
L2 + Up + Circle: Power Up to the Very Limit (Costs 3 Blast Stocks)
Rating: 3/5 Damage: 0
Same as SSJ2 Goku's Full Power, except with no stunning effect.
Blast 2:
L2 + Triangle: Super Kamehameha (Costs 4 Ki Bars; Chargeable Ki Wave)
Rating: 4/5 Damage: 6,540-12,360
Same as the Kamehameha for the other forms of Goku, except takes a bit longer
to charge.
L2 + Up + Triangle: Super Explosive Wave (Costs 4 Ki Bars; Explosion Type)
Rating: 3/5 Damage: 10,020
Costs the same amount as the Super Kamehameha, but is a bit weaker than it.
Also, you need to be a bit close to your opponent for this move to work.
Ultimate Blast:
L2 + Down + Triangle: Dragon Fist (Costs entire Ki Gauge; Rush Type)
Rating: 5/5 Damage: 18,010
This is his best move. Very powerful and cool.
------------------------------------------
9. Super Saiyan 4 Goku[SSJ4G]
------------------------------------------
We first see this form of Goku during his fight with Super Baby-Vegeta 2. He
first transformed into a Golden Oozaru, but after seeing Pan's tears, he
regained his senses, causing him to turn into this form. This is the strongest
form of Goku in the game, but it carries over the same problem as Super Saiyan
3. It is a bit difficult to charge energy in this form, but his attacks are
very powerful. To unlock this form of Goku, play through the Baby, the Avenger
Saga in Dragon Adventure Mode until you have to fight Super Baby-Vegeta 2 in
this form.
Note: This form of Goku is a seperate character in the game. You will not be
able to transform into this form if you select normal Goku. You must begin in
this form to play as him.
9.1 Character Illustration
Here is Super Saiyan 4 Goku's Character Illustration:
Voice: Sean Schemmel
This is Goku's ultimate Super Saiyan form, Super Saiyan 4.
After transforming into a giant ape in the battle with Baby Vegeta, Goku lost
his reason and went on a blind rampage. However, after seeing Pan's tears, his
reason returned and he transformed into Super Saiyan 4.
This state has the most outward changes of the various Super Saiyan forms.
Goku's hair is black, his upper body is covered with red fur, and his nature
becomes wild.
In addition to the techniques of Dragon Fist and Instant Transmission, he can
now use a new finishing move, the "10x Kamehameha".
This is the form of Goku when we first see him. He is in this form from the
start of DB through the Piccolo Jr. Saga, where he becomes the Goku we know
from DBZ. To unlock this form of Goku, play through the Destined Rivals Saga in
Dragon Adventure Mode until you play as Goku. From here, go to Kami's Lookout.
Speak to King Kai, and he will have you fight Grandpa Gohan. Beat him to
unlock Kid Goku.
Note: This form of Goku does not have full Ki control yet. Because of this, he
cannot sustain flight for long. When you fly with him, he will descend slowly.
If you use Ki blasts in mid air with him, he will automatically drop to the
floor. Keep this in mind when you play as him, especially in the World
Tournament Arena.
He has two outfits:
1. The Gi he wore while training under Master Roshi.
2. The Gi we first see him wear in Dragonball.
10.1 Character Illustration
Here is Kid Goku's Character Illustration:
Voice: Stephanie Nadolny
This is Goku as a small boy.
After his foster parent Grandpa Gohan's death, Goku lived alone in the
mountain wilderness. When he meets Bulma, he sets off on a great adventure in
search of the Dragon Balls.
Over the course of his adventures, Goku makes many new friends and enemies,
and puts his skills to the test in the World Martial Arts Tournament. Little
by little, he grows stronger with each passing day.
Presently, Goku excels at many of the Turtle School techniques, but his
signature moves are his Grandpa's rock-paper-scissors punch and various power
pole attacks.
Goku's weak point is his tail: if it's grabbed, he is rendered powerless. Goku
also consumes vase quantities of food, and if he gets hungry, he can't move.
When he was a kid, he promised Chichi that he would marry her, but it's just
like Goku to promise without knowing what marriage is...
So, what do you think of this FAQ? This is my first one for BT2, so it may
not have been as good as expected, but I am pleased with how it came
out.
I will include recommended potara setups here:
The best setup you can have is:
Equipment Slots +4(or less depending on how many your character needs)
Kiss of #18
Kiss of #18
Kiss of #18
Kiss of #18
Kiss of #18
Either MAX Power Plus or Halo/Majin Seal. It really is your choice here. I
would recommend Halo, because of its effect of costing half as much Ki to use a
Blast 2 and Ultimate Blast. With that effect, you won't need to charge as much
Ki before launching another attack.
If you have any other good potara setups(such as "themed"setups), see the
Contact Info section to learn where to contribute. I will post your setups in
this section. Until next time!
---------------------------
12. Q and A[QNA]
---------------------------
The first seven questions are questions I made up, but I will update this
section with real question when the FAQ is posted, and the questions start
coming in.
Q1: Why do you have a bio for the character if you copied the in-game
Character Illustration?
A1: The reason for that was to introduce the character a bit. The Character
Illustration has much more info than I could give. I give my POV, while the
Character Illustration gives what actually happened. Also, some of the
bios I typed may include info that the Character Illustration does not have.
Q2: Can I put your FAQ on my website?
A2: No. I will only put this FAQ on GameFAQs and no where else. I prefer it
this way, because that means there is only one site to keep track of that has
this FAQ posted.
Q3: Will you do other FAQ's for this game?
A3:Well, due to the little problem that caused me to be late with my updates,
alot of the ones I was going to do(Cell, Frieza, Vegeta, etc.) were already
done. The only one that I might do is Bardock. I will try to get his done.
Q4: Why aren't Vegito/Gogeta/Great Ape. in the FAQ?
A4: They aren't forms of Goku. For Vegito and Gogeta, you need both Goku and
Vegeta in a Tag Battle to use them. Because of this, I consider them separate
character. As for Great Ape, it is just a generic Great Ape that we see from
Kid Goku and Gohan, so I consider it a separate character.
Q5: Why did you not include the controls of the game in the FAQ?
A5: There are two reasons for this. The first one is that the controls or in
the game manual. I understand it if someone lost the manual, but that leads me
to reason two: the game has a tutorial mode, so you can relearn the controls
there.
Q6: Is this the best Budokai game?
A6: In a technical sense, it is not a Budokai game. In Japan, it is called
Dragon Ball Z: Sparking. In the states, the name was changed to try to connect
it to the Budokai series. That aside, I would say that it is the best DBZ
fighting game of all.
Q7: How do you unlock the Destined Rivals Saga?
A7: To unlock Destined Rivals, defeat Gohan as Goten in Scenario 01 in the
Majin Buu Saga.
Q8: Why did it take so long for you to update?
A8: Well, it's a long story. I was using a laptop to update and write my FAQs.
However, the laptop kept freezing on GameFAQs for some reason. Since all I
had to do was remove the battery and it would work, I continued going on
GameFAQs. However, one time, the screen stood black instead of going to the
home screen. After a call, we found out that the laptop had a problem with it
to begin with. This all happened back in December. When we found this out,
I used the desktop we had. However, unlike the laptop, it didn't have a
line/column count to it, making FAQ writing almost impossible. Therefore, I
waited until we got the one I had before fixed. Now that it is fixed, I am
able to update actively again.
If you want to contact me about something in the FAQ, send me a PM at
Gamespot.com. On Gamespot.com, I use the same name there that I use here:
WingedRegent. You may contact me also on the message boards on GameFAQs.
I am a frequent visitor of the message boards and will help if you ask a
question pertaining to this FAQ. I will accept messages about corrections,
mistakes, contributions,or inaccuracies in the FAQ. I will also accept feedback
about the FAQ. Again, I may only accept contributions on those two sources.
