[01] INTRODUCTION
O============================================================================O
GötzenDiener is an Action RPG released on November 25th, 1994 for the cost of
7,800 Yen ($84.00 USD) for the PC Engine SUPER CD-ROM². It was made by NEC
Home Electronics who made Emerald Dragon; produced by GAINAX who made the
Princess Maker series; and developed by Studio Alex who made the Lunar series.
GötzenDiener plays similar to Brandish, Legend of Zelda, and Prince of Persia.
The labyrinths are isometric, viewed from third person, with puzzles scattered
across each dungeon. In addition, you can also fight with your sword, cast
magic spells, and utilize items. GötzenDiener is one of the few games to
break the stereotype that instead of rescuing the Princess, you are playing
the role of the Princess rescuing herself! Takami Akai of Princess Maker fame
is the Character Designer; and Kazunari Tomi is in charge of Scenario who is
known for his works in Mugen no Shinzô, Sorcerian, and DINOSAUR.
GötzenDiener tells a story of an abducted Princess, Kish Rim Misa, who was
taken to the Demon God's Castle on a distant, solitary island rising above the
ocean. She is to be offered as a sacrifice for the demon's revival and many
soldiers were sent to rescue her. The Royal Family possesses a weapon called
the Sword of the Valiant, adorned by a precious gem called the Kish Termapix.
Rightfully, they bestow this sword to one brave man. In the end, he was the
only one to face the Demon God. They both simultaneously strike each other
down and when the Princess came to, their dead bodies lay below her. She's
now determined to escape from the castle all on her own. GötzenDiener is
derived from a German term meaning "Idolater".
GötzenDiener was never released outside of Japan. And as of February 2009, no
known English patch was released for this game. Therefore everything written
in this guide are from my own translations. I am not fluent in Japanese and
what's provided are translated to the best of my knowledge, any corrections on
my translations are most welcomed!
There are unmarked spoilers in this document. I written this in a way to
allow the player to experience the most fulfillment out of this game without
skipping any cutscenes or events. My walkthrough will not tell you when to
save your progress, therefore I recommend to save whenever you enter a new
room. I hope you enjoy playing this game as much as I did!

[03] GAME MECHANICS
O============================================================================O
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
LIFE GAUGE
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Princess Misa's health is shown on the bottom right of the screen. Her life
gauge is symbolized by a golden brooch ornamented with four shiny gems. Quite
possibly a sapphire, emerald, chrysoberyl, and ruby. Each gem is worth 2
points of health, thus Misa have a total of 8 HP. The four gems will lose
their luster one by one whenever she suffers damage, and the game is over once
all of the gems have lost their sparkle. Misa can always replenish her health
at the Precious Gem Statue located randomly at certain dungeons.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
MAGIC SPELLS
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Princess Misa only have two magic spells that she can cast, Flame and Revive.
The Flame spell is mostly used as a catalyst to solve certain puzzles, while
Revive can be used as a decoy who attacks in Misa's place.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
OBJECTS & ITEMS
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Princess Misa does not have an inventory menu, so you would have to utilize
objects and items from where you are standing. Some objects you would have to
drag around just to use them at another area, while some items can be used as
weapons or to activate warp zones.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
THE SWORD OF THE VALIANT
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Princess Misa's trusty sword is called the Sword of the Valiant. It is
adorned with a precious gem called the Kish Termapix hailing from the Royal
Family. Misa mostly will use this weapon during her journey.

[04] PROLOGUE
O============================================================================O
Once before, there was a Demon
who was blinded by a magical spell,
he possesses an idol with the power to control minds.
Therefore,
the appearance of a King amongst the strong men
was thus sealed away
to whomever was fortunate. Very fortunate...
An image of the Princess Shrine Maiden, Kish Rim Misa, comes into focus and it
shatters like a mirror into million of pieces. The skies grew dim and
griffins fill the dark sky, then we see the frightened blonde-haired princess
in her bedroom. There she was kidnapped by a cloaked monster and later
shackled at the Demon God's Castle located on an isolated island called the
"Sealed Demon Island". She is to be sacrificed in order to resurrect a Demon.
As lightning gathers round, soldiers from the princess' land surrounded the
Demon God's Castle, ready to reclaim her back. They were led by a valiant
young man adorned with a tri-plumed helmet, golden shield, and the fated sword
given to him by the Royal Family. As they made their way up the Mage's Tower,
all of the soldiers have perished in battle, save for the valiant man, who was
able to finally reach the top where the Demon God and Princess Misa awaits.
Thus starts the tale of GötzenDiener...

[05] MAIN MENU
O============================================================================O
At the title screen, it tells you to "PUSH RUN BUTTON!" Go ahead and push the
RUN button and you are taken to the main menu. At the main menu, you are
given these options to choose from:
¤ FROM MIDWAY
FROM THE BEGINNING
MAGE'S TOWER
DEMON GOD'S FANE
CATACOMBS
UNDERGROUND TEMPLE
ABANDONED MINE
"FROM MIDWAY" means it will continue from the last point where you've died.
The only options available to you are the first two, "FROM MIDWAY" and "FROM
THE BEGINNING". The other options will open once you have access to that area
in the game. For now, it doesn't matter which option you select because both
will take you to the introduction. Go ahead and select "FROM THE BEGINNING".
O============================================================================O
[06] CHAPTER I: MAGE'S TOWER
O============================================================================O
The game starts off with the final struggle between God and Man...
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
MAGE'S TOWER 7F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Princess Kish Rim Misa is currently unconscious. She is shackled by her hands
on top of a spire, located on a terrace on the 7F of the Mage's Tower. There
is an epic battle going on between a valiant man trying to save her and the
Demon God about to sacrifice her. The valiant man used his sword in hand and
brought down one strong slash against his foe. With his wound exposed and
blood trickling down his chest, the Demon God fell. He's finally dead and the
valiant man hast saved the princess!! But before he could savor this sweet
victory, the valiant man too keels over and drops his sword.
Princess Misa came to when she heard the loud clanging of the sword against
the floor. She look below her feet and saw the outcome before her, there was
the monster who kidnapped her and the man who was her savior... both now dead.
The death of the Demon God releases his control over the shackles and the
princess falls to the floor. She gets up and now you're in control.
The only things Misa can do while dressed in her Princess attire is to open
the first door, but she cannot fight nor climb down the ladder. Let's not
forget she only has 2 HP, so she's as good as dead. If you died while
fighting the monster in the Princess attire, you will be sent back to the main
menu where you can continue your journey by selecting "FROM MIDWAY" or "MAGE'S
TOWER", and Misa will begin in her Valiant attire.
So it would be best to pick up the sword dropped by the valiant man. Then a
cutscene is shown of Misa picking up the Sword of the Valiant, she takes off
the bottom portion of her dress and wears her blue bloomers as pants, she also
ties up her long hair, and lifts the sword high up into the air. If no one
can save her, then she will have to get out of this island on her own and that
is exactly what she plans on doing! Now Misa is in her Valiant attire and her
health is restored back to 8 HP. Any time she dies in this attire will send
you back to the main menu where you can continue your journey by selecting
"FROM MIDWAY" or "MAGE'S TOWER". Whenever Misa wields the sword and is in a
battle stance, she will walk more slowly. Press the II button to sheath her
sword to make her walk normally.
When you leave the terrace, you will see a fork in your path. Go right
because the left path is blocked by debris. Open the door on the right path
to face your first monster, the Speer. It attack using their drill-like arms.
Just slash it once with your sword and the creature will keel over. If you
have lost some health from the battle, don't worry because we'll replenish
them soon. Once it's dead, the path to the left has a door blocked by the
corpse of a Speer. Because the two chains here does nothing, you will have
no choice, but to climb down the ladder in the upper central of this floor.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
MAGE'S TOWER 6F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Except for noticing another corpse of a Speer, there is nowhere for you to go
on this floor except down the second ladder.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
MAGE'S TOWER 5F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
The ladder breaks underneath Misa's weight and she lands on the floor. Since
the broken ladder is no good against the wall we've just fell from, pick it up
and we'll use it at another location. To the south is a jade statue
resembling a bird, this is the Precious Gem Statue. Drop the ladder and touch
the statue to replenish your health back to 8 HP. North of the statue are two
chains that are connected to a stairway, but it's drawn up. Since there are
dead ends at every point, the only way to go is up the stairs to the 6F. Pick
back up the ladder and go up the stairs.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
MAGE'S TOWER 6F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
There are gaps here leading from one side of the floor to another. There are
two types of gaps: Narrow gaps like the one in front and wide gaps which are
seen everywhere else. You can easily jump over the narrow gaps without harm.
But it is very dangerous to jump over any wide gaps because you will fall and
land hard on the 5F and lose 4 HP. And jumping over a wide gap once more
afterward makes you lose 2 more HP, and jumping over once more after that is a
game over. You can always use the Precious Gem Statue on the 5F to replenish
your health back.
You can either jump the narrow gap or utilize the ladder to cross over. When
you do, there is a Speer's corpse ahead. Go near it and you can drag this
body around. Keep moving forward, while dragging the Speer's corpse, and
allow it to drop into the wide gap at the end of the hall. It will land at
the 5F and is of no use from here thereafter. Go up the ladder to the 7F.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
MAGE'S TOWER 7F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
This is the floor where we first start from, get off the ladder by pressing
any directional pad key. There is a ladder along with the debris that blocked
our way before and the Speer's corpse blocking the door. While we can't move
the debris, you can drag the Speer's corpse behind you so that you can unblock
the door and use it as a shortcut. Now that is done, go up the ladder.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
MAGE'S TOWER 8F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
If you proceed forward, you can see the spire where you were hung from as well
as the corpses of the Demon God and the valiant man below. Go northeast
toward the crank and use it. This crank releases the two drawn chains on the
stairs on the 5F and now you go downstairs to the 4F! After you have used the
crank, go down the ladder.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
MAGE'S TOWER 7F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Go down the ladder once more.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
MAGE'S TOWER 6F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Go right and fall down the wide gap to the 5F to save yourself some time.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
MAGE'S TOWER 5F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
You will land on top of the Speer's corpse that we've dropped before. Gross!
Replenish at the Precious Gem Statue and you can see that the stairs leading
down are now accessible. Now go downstairs.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
MAGE'S TOWER 4F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Walk around the tower to the left and down the stairs.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
MAGE'S TOWER 3F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Now walk around the tower to the right and go down the ladder.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
MAGE'S TOWER 2F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Walk around the tower to the left and down the stairs.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
MAGE'S TOWER 1F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Now we're on the bottom floor! Proceed and enter the next area.
O============================================================================O
[07] CHAPTER II: DEMON GOD'S FANE
O============================================================================O
We have arrived at a new location below the Mage's Tower...
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
DEMON GOD'S FANE 1F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
We are at the Demon God's Fane, a temple used for worshiping the Demon God.
If you do decide to go back to the Mage's Tower, everything will reset back to
where they were. But it isn't necessary for us to backtrack.
Go through the first long corridor to an open space. Then go down the second
corridor and there should be a fork in the path leading north or east. While
we're walking, you will hear the ringing of bells in the background. Let's do
something about the bells because its annoying to hear that ringing throughout
this place. At the fork, go south and go up the first flight of stairs.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
DEMON GOD'S FANE 2F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
At the 2F, keep go south until you see a small room where a large, red armored
creature grasping onto a bell-rope. This being is known as a Faust and it's
driving us nuts with these bells! Draw your sword because when you enter this
room, the Faust will let go of the bell-rope and start attacking you with
their fists. Three slashes from your sword, or with the hammer we'll acquire
later, will kill this Faust.
Now that it is dead, we can still hear the ringing of the bells. There must
be another Faust on this same floor! Now go right from the corridors to the
end where there is another room with a Faust pulling on a bell-rope. Go ahead
and kill it too with three slashes. Finally, some peace and quiet!!
If you have lost health while fighting these two Fausts, there is a Precious
Gem Statue located on this floor. Go back around northwest toward the stairs
where we came from and go north from there. There should be a golden statue
of a dragon, touch it and it will replenish your health. If you do not need
healing, back at the area where we've killed the second Faust, go northwest
toward the first flight of stairs and go upstairs.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
DEMON GOD'S FANE 3F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
You are at an area where there is a barred door and a corridor to your left.
Go down the corridor, there is a room where a hammer just waiting for you to
grab! Pick up the hammer and now go back toward the stairs we've just came
from. Your hammer won't do you any good against the barred doors. So from
here, go south through a corridor and you should see a gigantic statue in the
shape of the Demon God at the central part of this area. In front of the
Demon God statue's hand is a lift with a bell next to it. Ring the lift bell
with your hammer and the lift will take you down.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
DEMON GOD'S FANE 1F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
The lift takes you past the 2F and stops on the 1F. You see a group of Fausts
to the south praying to the Demon God statue. And to your right is a Faust
controlling a lever which controls the lift. We won't need to use the lift
anymore, so go west and north toward a ladder blocked by some debris. Use
your hammer twice and Misa will break through the debris. Once the way is
cleared, Misa cannot climb up the ladder while wielding the hammer, so we have
to ditch it. Press the Select button away from the ladder and Misa will throw
the hammer away. Now climb up the ladder.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
DEMON GOD'S FANE 4F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
This ladder leads all the way up to the 4F where there is a giant bird called
the Waldvogel. Unless you have a death wish, and want to jump off the ledge
and down four stories to your death, ride on the winged creature. It will
take you to the other side of the 4F near a ladder. Now go down the ladder.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
DEMON GOD'S FANE 3F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Go north and you should see a room with a rope connecting the 4F to the 2F,
use your sword to slice through the rope. Then go south and do the same with
the other rope in the next room. If you haven't killed those two Fausts on
the 2F before to stop ringing the bells, cutting these ropes will definitely
stop that annoying ringing!
Now go north to where there is a flight of stairs, a barred door, and a room
with a floor standing candelabra. It's time for Misa to start dabbling in
magical spells. Misa can learn Flame from using this candelabra as a
catalyst. To do this, press the Select button. You will see the candelabra
is selected, now press the I button. Misa will do a dance to evoke a chain of
fireballs from the candelabra. These flames can travel very far away as long
as you're facing in the right direction.
Now we have to put this magic to some use, so walk over to the candelabra and
drag it north. Now place the candelabra directly across the barred door, then
while facing the barred door, cast Flame, and it will burn down the barred
door. There are two ways to exit out of here.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
DEMON GOD'S FANE EXIT 1 (FANE 3F TO 4F)
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
The first method is easy, just continue to push the candelabra forward and
pull it toward the corridor to the right of the stairs. You will then pass
through the lift from before, and toward the room with the stairs and a barred
door. Place the candelabra in front of the barred door and cast Flame again
to burn it. Now you can proceed toward the stairs leading up. Follow the
corridors to the northwest and onto the next area.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
DEMON GOD'S FANE EXIT 2 (FANE 3F TO 2F TO 1F TO 2F TO 3F)
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
The second method requires some backtracking, ignore the candelabra and walk
toward the corridor to the right of the stairs. You will then pass through
the lift from before and go downstairs to the 2F. Then go southwest all the
way around the corridors and north toward the stairs leading down. On the 1F,
go northeast back to the area where we've dropped our hammer. Pick up the
hammer and we're going to backtrack to the 3F. So go up the stairs we've just
came from, then go southeast and up the stairs there. Now we're at the 3F
next to a room with a barred door, go west and back to where we left our
candelabra. Go up the stairs next to the candelabra and go around the
corridor to the east pass two silent bells. Then to the north of the second
bell is a wall with a crack in it. Use the hammer against the cracked wall
and the wall will collapse after two whacks. Drop the hammer, we don't need
it anymore, then follow the corridors to the northwest and onto the next area.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
DEMON GOD'S FANE 4F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Keep going straight and climb down the ladder.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
DEMON GOD'S FANE 3F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
There is a Faust just as you get off this ladder, go strike it three times to
kill it. This Faust keeps respawning whenever you go into a new area, so it's
best to kill him and continue on. There are three ladders. The ladder to the
far left leads to a dead end, so climb down either the middle or right ladder.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
DEMON GOD'S FANE 2F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
If you have climb down the middle or right ladder, you should see a ghost in
the room to the left. This ghost is called a Gespenst who likes to headbutt.
They have 6 HP, more than the other enemies you have faced so far. Just
ignore it and climb down the ladder.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
DEMON GOD'S FANE 1F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
To the north is a Gespenst, fight it if you need some practice! Once you kill
it, go down the ladder in the central part.
O============================================================================O
[08] CHAPTER III: CATACOMBS, PART 1
O============================================================================O
Now it's time for Misa to travel underground...
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B1F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Be very careful when traveling through the Catacombs because it is very easy
to get lost here in this maze. To the center of this area is a large pit,
don't fall in. If you continue more south, you'll encounter another new enemy
called the Pilz. It attacks by breathing fire and has 3 HP. Kill it and you
will notice it doesn't die like the others because you will learn a new spell,
Revive. Press the Select button and the Pilz will be selected, cast Revive
and it will now be a bluish color. That means that you have revived the Pilz
from the dead and it will fight alongside you. You can control its movement
with the II button and it will attack whenever you press the I button.
Now proceed to the right and follow the tunnels through to where there is an
open space with another Pilz. Kill it and cast Revive on it if you want, it
will only kill the first Pilz you've revived. Then there is a fork in the
path, go to the left and climb down the stairs. To the right is a cliff you
can fall off from, but we need to conserve as much health as possible. So be
cautious when fighting monsters or let the Pilz fight in your place.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B2F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Keep going northeast and there is a pot lying on the ground. Go pick it up
and carry it over northeast, past four unlit torches, toward a bonfire. Then
throw the pot into the bonfire and the four torches will light up. This is
necessary in order for us to get through a barred door at B4F. Now go to the
west and climb down the stairs.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B3F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Travel the corridors until you reach a red valved device. Then go north from
there and east, while making sure to not fall from these ledges. Here you'll
be introduced to two new monsters. The Tänzer, a multi-armed necromancer who
can summon up to three undead monsters at a time, it will not attack Misa and
has 2 HP. And the undead creatures summoned by the Tänzer called Schleppen,
they do the attacking for the Tänzer and also has 2 HP. Kill the Tänzer first
and then kill the Schleppens afterward. Once you're finished, climb down the
stairs to the east.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B4F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
If you have lost quite a bit of health, you can finally replenish your health
at the diamond-shaped Precious Gem Statue here to the west. Then go south
where there is a lone Schleppen and a barred door between two torches. If you
haven't lit up the four torches at B2F, the door here won't open and you will
have to do some backtracking.
With the Schleppen, there are two ways of killing it, with your sword or cast
Flame at it. Casting Flame on the Schleppen deals the same amount of damage
as you would with your sword, but it's harder to execute the spell because you
have to face the right direction and not to mention the Schleppen likes to
move around. Also it can interrupt your casting time if you are too close to
it. So it's just easier to kill it with your sword. When you're done,
recover at the Precious Gem Statue if needed.
After the Schleppen is dead, face the barred doors and cast Flame. It will
select the torches and it will burn down the door allowing you passage. Then
follow the corridor and down the stairs.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B5F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Go south while ignoring the staircase to the north, then follow the corridor
toward a hall with two barred doors in-between two torches. We will need to
burn down the south barred door and in order to do this, stand in the middle
of the hall while facing down. Then press the Select button and keep pressing
Select until the top right torch is selected. Then cast Flame and it'll burn
down the bottom barred door. Go south and climb down the ladder.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B6F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
You will see what appears to be four broken Precious Gem Statues. Proceed
east where you are in a room with six red panels on the ground, two busts of a
statue depicting the Demon God, and a blocked door. Walk over to the two
busts and pick up the one with a single horn. Then walk over to the upper
left panel, you will hear a chime sound if you are on the right one, and place
the statue down on top of this panel. This will open the blocked doors if you
placed it down over the right panel because everything else will give you a
dull tone. Now pick up the bust with two horns and four arms, then climb down
the stairs to the north past the unblocked door.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B7F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
With the statue in hand, travel northeast toward where there is a room with a
reflector, a locked door with a symbol of the statue you're carrying, and two
torches with the left one lit up. The reflector also works as a Precious Gem
Statue if you need recovery. Place the statue down in front of the door, then
face right and cast Flame to make it burn across. If done correctly, the fire
from the left torch will lit the right torch, and a line of light will connect
a path from the reflector to the door. When you pick up the statue, the light
from the reflector will connect with the statue and unlock the door. Now you
can drop the statue behind you, and follow the path of light to the north and
climb the ladder up.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B6F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Climb up the ladder here.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B5F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Climb up the ladder once more.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B4F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Follow the corridors to where you will see a flight of stairs, and a statue
resembling the horned four-armed bust from before. This is another Precious
Gem Statue you can recover at, it is very important to recover at this statue
because we won't be seeing another Precious Gem Statue for a long while. When
you are done, climb down the stairs next to the statue.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B5F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Keep going west and climb down the stairs at the very end.

Now keep going east until you have reached a dead end. When you walk in, the
floor will give way and you fall deep into the second part of the Catacombs.

O============================================================================O
It's dark and damp, but you can do it Misa...
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B8F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Health is very vital in this area because you will be dropping from floor to
floor until you reach the Underground Temple at B16F. I will be taking you to
the quickest route out of here to B16F. Hopefully Misa won't annoy you with
her constant screaming. First fall down on the area to the southwest.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B9F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Stop and wait till you're fully recovered, the bedrock here are crystal veins
and they respond to the precious gem on Misa's sword. Misa can only recover
up to 7 HP. When she's healed, go south and there is a monster called a
Kerbtier. They attack with their whip-like hands and has 5 HP, but it's just
best to ignore them. Go east of the Kerbtier and you should be in an open
space where there is a stream of water to the northeast. Fall down here.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B10F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Stop and heal yourself. Then hug the wall to the north and fall down at the
far eastern side.

CATACOMBS B11F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
You will fall down once more.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B12F

Stop and heal yourself! Hug the northeastern wall and fall down there, it's
near where you fell from.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B13F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Then walk to the northwest and fall down there. It's in the same open space
as where the Alcahest is at.

o------------------------------------------------------------------o
CATACOMBS B16F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
I understand that you and Misa must both get sick of falling by now, but we're
almost there! Just travel to the far northwest and fall down one last time!
O============================================================================O
[10] CHAPTER V: UNDERGROUND TEMPLE
O============================================================================O
Now it's time to go through some warp zones...
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
UNDERGROUND TEMPLE
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
This place is one huge area with tons of warp zones, but what's good is that
there are no monsters for you to worry about. However, it's very easy to get
lost in here, so follow my directions carefully.
Keep traveling south until you find a control rod on the ground and pick it
up. This control rod activates the warp zones, shown as red circles on the
floor. Now walk northeast toward a red circle and touch it with your Control
Rod to warp to another area.
You should be in a room with four warp zones and a hall to the east. Touch
the bottom right warp zone with your control rod to teleport to the next area.
You're now in a room with four warp zones, touch the top left warp zone with
your control rod to teleport.
Now you're in a room with just one warp zone to your right. Touch it with the
control rod to teleport to the final area.
You should be in a room with a statue resembling the horned four-armed bust we
just assembled earlier back, approach it and a cutscene will ensue.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
THE "TRUTH"
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
When you come into contact with the Demon God statue, it will communicate with
Princess Misa and tells her the "truth".
DEMON GOD STATUE: "We were your Gods."
PRINCESS MISA : "Yes, but you were also our ancestors. A desirable gem was
deprived from us, it was produced on this island."
DEMON GOD STATUE: "We became Gods and grant Man's wishes with that gem.
However We were branded as Demons and sealed away. Man
worshipped Us and put Us in a deep slumber. Now..."
PRINCESS MISA : "These men are frightened, they cower. The strength of the
Royal Family is powerful enough to seal away these Demons.
I am secretly requesting for your help."
DEMON GOD STATUE: "In order for Us to remove the silent majority who tried
reaching out to Us. Their goal was to revive Him."
PRINCESS MISA : "I give, I give up."
Then Princess Misa cuts off her own hair and prepares to face her God.
Originally this Demon God was an idol worshiped on this island. A legend was
handed down from generations stated, "The founding king sealed off the Demon
God at a deserted island in order to save the world." Thus the princess used
her lineage, being a direct descent of the Royal Family, to seal the demon.
Even though this historical event is a convenience for the policymakers,
actually this was a fabricated story created by the Royal Family.
This deserted island was called the Sealed Demon Island with idolaters who
revere the God in ancient times. It seems to have been defended by the God,
who was given the affections and blessings from the people. This God was
bestow with six arms in order to grant the prayers and wishes of his people to
further his powers. There were probably two or more Gods like him.
A revolt began against the Royal Family who monopolized on the precious gems
produced on that island. Their purpose displeased the God, now turned Demon
God, and he sealed off the island. After a distinct period where these
confined grounds were now forgotten, the idolaters were changed into grotesque
monsters, and they began to fear the sleeping Demon God who resides on that
island. Because he was a God who granted men's wishes, he had forgiven the
Royal Family for their tyranny. But he personally despises them for making
him go into a deep slumber. Thus anyone who was a member of their lineage
were burdened as traitors to the Gods for the crimes they've committed, thus
they used Princess Misa as a sacrifice in order to please him.

[11] CHAPTER VI: ABANDONED MINE
O============================================================================O
The final battle between the Indomitable Goddess and the Demon God...
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
ABANDONED MINE 1F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
You now sport a new attire, the Indomitable Goddess! Don't ask me how her
bloomers got ripped off, I guess she really wanted to go all out with her new,
rocking short hairdo! Also you start off with 4 HP, so you will need to be
careful. In this area, tons of rocks are scattered about, Misa can pick them
up and toss them to move them out of her way.
Go to the west and pick up the pickax on the ground. Then further west is a
new monster called a Seeigel, and like the Tänzer, doesn't attack at all.
Instead it transforms into a doppelgänger of Princess Misa called Princess #2.
She attacks with whatever weapon Misa is currently carrying. Both the Seeigel
and Princess #2 have 5 HP. Once you have killed either one of them, it will
die like the Pilz and you can cast Revive on it. Now you have an evil
doppelgänger princess of your very own! Sweet!!
Go south and east, making sure your doppelgänger follows you. You will
encounter another new enemy, an evolved form of the Speer called a Reich, with
7 HP. Let your doppelgänger fight instead since you need to conserve your
health. Then go over to the southeast where there is a lever on the side that
controls the conveyor belt. Now that the conveyor works, you can use it to
travel to the 2F of these mines.
Now travel back to where you first fought the Seeigel to the northwest. Then
go north until you reach a conveyor belt, then go right from there. As you
continue north, you should see another conveyor belt with a lift where there
are planks going up. Go up the lift to the 2F.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
ABANDONED MINE 2F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Your doppelgänger is gone, but you should be able to manage on your own.
Follow the southern route of the conveyor belt, you will go pass a green
railing which appears to be a Precious Gem Statue, but isn't. Then at the end
of the conveyor belt are stairs you can climb off and there is another new
monster waiting for you.
This is an Erst, an evolved form of Faust, with 9 HP. Before facing it, heal
at the Precious Gem Statue to the right in the shape of a goblet. Continue to
hit the Erst with your sword or pickax until it's dead, and when it does, a
flash of white light will engulf the area. This opens a new southern passage
leading to a ladder to the 3F. When you are ready, heal at the Precious Gem
Statue because this will your last time to heal before the final boss battle.
Drop the pickax and climb up the ladder.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
ABANDONED MINE 3F
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
To your right is a stick of iron on the ground, pick it up. This is the last
item you can use, so you have a choice to either use this stick of iron or put
faith in your Sword of the Valiant. Then use the right conveyor belt, follow
it, and get off on the second left. Here is where you'll battle against the
sub-boss, Verhärtung, with 8 HP. Unlike the other monsters, this one attacks
with fireball projectiles. Just watch your health and keep hitting it. Once
it is dead, it will start to fuse itself with the Reich and Erst.
Now you'll fight against the sub-boss' second form, Erfolg! This monster has
10 HP and, like the Verhärtung, it attacks with sonic boom projectiles. Just
attack and watch your health. When it's dead, a lift will be accessible that
you take you above ground to where the final battle will be taken place.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
ABOVE GROUND
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
If you were carrying the stick of iron, Misa will ditch it for the Sword of
the Valiant in her epic face-off. Compared to what you have been through,
this is a huge joke! There are two final bosses here, the Super Tänzer who
has a measly 3 HP, and the Revived Demon King with a whopping 15 HP.
I would suggest killing the Revived Demon King first, the easiest way to do it
is to lure him toward the alcove you came from. Once he's inside, he'll be
stuck to the point where you can hack away at him until he's dead. How
pathetic! Then go north to face off against the Super Tänzer, and like the
regular Tänzer, it does not attack you at all thus you can easily defeat it.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
ENDING
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
Princess Misa will then fly away from the Sealed Demon Island on the back of
the Waldvogel. She looks back at the place that had once imprisoned her. How
will this woman, who was now known as the Indomitable Goddess Misa, lead the
world and not rely on the Gods? Only time will tell...
This child
If this was your choice
We will fall into a deep slumber
Take care, Princess Shrine Maiden
Your people's hearts will lose consciousness of this world
To move on, they desire to not be influenced
Even when the distant age is proposed for the better,
Even when evil's ways pushes through,
You will hang on, to engrave your futures
--- take care, child
Congratulations, you've beaten GötzenDiener!

O============================================================================O
[17] TRANSLATION NOTES
O============================================================================O
Since none of the merchandises for GötzenDiener gave any Latin letters for the
Japanese used in the game, therefore here are my translation notes.
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
JAPANESE TO ENGLISH
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
[ABANDONED MINE:]
· "Haikô" meaning "abandoned mine; disused mine".
[CATACOMBS:]
· "Chika Bochi" meaning "catacomb; The Vault".
[CRYSTAL VEIN:]
· "Suishô Kômyaku". "Suishô" meaning "crystal" and "kômyaku" meaning "reef;
streak" or even "ledge of ore; lode; mineral vein; vein".
[DEMON GOD:]
· "Mashin" meaning "devil; evil spirit; genie" or even "Beelzebub". As much
as I wanted to use Beelzebub, I chose Demon God as shown below.
[DEMON GOD'S FANE:]
· "Mashin Shinden", this term was used to approximate Monte Cook's book titled
Demon God's Fane.
[INDOMITABLE GODDESS:]
· "Fukutsu no Megami". "Fukutsu" meaning "persistence; fortitude;
indomitability" and "Megami" meaning "Goddess".
[KISH RIM MISA:]
· "Kishu=Rimu=Mîsa", a name which doesn't resemble any Germanic origins. Thus
I spelled her name as Kish Rim Misa. According to dictionaries, Kish is
Hebrew for "lay bait; lure"; Rim is Arabic for "gazelle"; and Misa is Latin
for "feast". Other acceptable translations of her name would be Kis or
Kisch; Lim, Limu, or Rimu; or Mesa, Miesa, or Miisa.
[KISH TERMAPIX:]
· "Kishu=Terumapikusu", since "Kishu" was already used to name the heroine.
However "Terumapikusu" is a fantasy term and I went with the closest render,
"Teruma" can be rendered as "terma" and "pikusu" is "pix".
[LABYRINTH CEMETERY:]
· "Meikyû Bochi". "Meikyû" meaning "mystery; maze; labyrinth" and "Bochi"
meaning "cemetery; graveyard".
[MAGE'S TOWER:]
· "Madôshi No Tô". "Madôshi" meaning "sorcerer; wizard; mage" and "Tô"
meaning "pagoda; tower".
[PRECIOUS GEM:]
· "Kihôshu". "Ki" meaning "precious; value; prize; esteem; honor" and "hôshu"
meaning "gem; jewel".
[PRINCESS SHRINE MAIDEN:]
· "Hime Fujo". "Hime" meaning "princess; young lady of noble birth" and
"Fujo" meaning "shrine maiden; virgin consecrated to a deity".
[VALIANT MAN:]
· "Yûsha" meaning "hero; the brave; man of valor". Thus I went with the more
fluent "valiant man" as the translation. Many American websites state his
name to be Yusha, a mistranslation of the adjective used to describe him.
[UNDERGROUND TEMPLE:]
· "Chitei Shinden". "Chitei" meaning "depths of the earth" and "Shinden"
meaning "temple; sacred place".

O============================================================================O
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
GAMEPLAY QUESTIONS
o------------------------------------------------------------------o
[Q: IS IT ALWAYS THIS HARD TO WALK AROUND IN THIS GAME?]
· A: Unfortunately it's just something you would eventually have to get used
to. I believe the analog sticks makes walking much easier.
[Q: HOW DO YOU LEVEL UP IN THIS GAME?]
· A: No, you don't level up in this game. Therefore it'll be wise to avoid
as much monsters as possible.
[Q: WHY IS THIS GAME SILENT DURING CUTSCENES?]
· A: It's an issue with the emulator that causes the music/SFX to not play.
[Q: HOW LONG IS THIS GAME?]
· A: About 2 to 3 hours long.
[Q: HOW MANY ENDINGS DOES THIS GAME HAVE?]
· A: This game only has one ending.
[Q: CAN YOU FAST FORWARD THROUGH CUTSCENES?]
· A: You can fast forward through cutscenes anytime by pressing and holding
the Left + Down + I buttons during them. However, you are unable to
fast forward through the Ending.
[Q: IS THERE A STAGE SELECT CODE?]
· A: Yes, although they do not work on the MagicEngine emulator. This is my
translation of the Japanese which may be incorrect because I don't have
any way to confirm this: "Push the Run button on the starting screen
along with firing the I and II buttons. Then directly for 10 seconds,
press and hold Select + Up + Right. When done correctly, you should see
that the "JUST A MOMENT..." picture doesn't change. Then release the
Select + Up + Right buttons and continue to push the I and II buttons.
If successful, the Stage Selection screen will appear."
