Welcome Super Mario RPG fan to the equipment FAQ. I've made this FAQ
to show all the correct stats of weapons, armor, and mainly, the accessories.
This FAQ also shows the locations of equipment for purchasing and finding
for free. Detailed descriptions for obtaining tough-to-find equipment is
listed, as well as rankings to show the best equipment.
If you are looking for a specific text/equipment, press Ctrl+F to quickly

Find ( free ): Go to the 4th floor of Booster's Tower ( where all the Rob-
Omb's are ) and go into the entrance. You should be on a
small platform with a treasure box hanging over you. Stand
on the brown tile closest to the ledge and walk off the
ledge in the south-eastern direction from that brown tile.
Keep walking in mid-air until you land on the see-saw with
the bomb on it. Doing this will get you this weapon.

Save Block, there is a treasure box. Hit it for this weapon.

Find ( free ): First, you must talk to the mouse in Monstro Town if you
haven't done so already. This opens a new path in Rose Town.
The mouse in on the top floor of the west-most house. After
this, obtain the 'Seed' after you beat Megasmilax. Second,
defeat Valentina. Then, after you defeat Valentina, go to
the eastern edge of Nimbus Land ( where there is nothing but
sky ) and walk along the edge. You will find an invisible
path where Shy Away is hiding and he will give you the
'Fertilizer'. Once you have the 'Seed' and 'Fertilizer' go
to Rose Town and go to the back of Rose Town where the new
path has opened up. Go there into the house and talk to the
Toad and give him the 'Seed' and 'Fertilizer' to create a
beanstalk. Then climb the beanstalk and collect this weapon.

haven't done so already. This opens a new path in Rose Town.
The mouse is on the top floor of the west-most house. After
this, obtain the 'Seed' after you beat Megasmilax. Second,

the eastern edge of Nimbus Land ( where there is nothing but
sky ) and walk along the edge. You will find an invisible
path where Shy Away is hiding and he will give you the
'Fertilizer'. Once you have the 'Seed' and 'Fertilizer' go
to Rose Town and go to the back of Rose Town where a new
path has opened up. Go there into the house and talk to the
Toad and give him the 'Seed' and 'Fertilizer' to create a
beanstalk. Then climb the beanstalk and collect this armor.

All of the setups involve the Quartz Charm, Attack Scarf, and Troopa Pin.
Make sure you try the setups before e-mailing negative feedback. Also,
if you want to tell me your own brilliant setups, I'll post them in
this FAQ and give you credit.
I believe that certain characters are better than others, and therefore
certain setups should usually be tried with the better characters.
In my opinion, I think the order of characters from strongest to weakest
is as follows ( excluding Mario ):
1. Geno ( Fairly better than Toadstool )
2. Toadstool ( Fairly Better than Bowser )
3. Bowser ( Very Slightly better than Mallow )
4. Mallow
If I were to place Mario, I would place him between Toadstool and Bowser
( Toadstool being only very slightly better than Mario ).
Obviously, setups vary because of different types of battles ( regular,
bosses, etc. ). So, I've tried to make the best general setup that takes
as much as possible into account.
The general pattern for my setups is maximizing the amount of damage with
an attack I do this by coupling the Super Suit with the Troopa Pin or
Quartz Charm. The attack increase from the Super Suit (+50) combined with the
attack multiplier of the Troopa Pin or Quartz Charm (1.5x) does greater
damage than giving an attack enhancing item without an attack multiplier.
For defense, I give the Quartz Charm to the person with the weakest defense.
Cutting 100 points of damage in half is more effective than cutting 50 points
of damage in half. Coupling Lazy Shell armor with defense multipliers is
unneccessary. There is very little damage to reduce because the Lazy Shell
armor already provides extremely high defense. In my opinion, the Lazy Shell
armor is better to be used without defense multipliers.

Remember these are just opinions, but they are pretty good.

This next setup is very useful if you use Geno's 'Geno Boost' special on
Toadstool at the very beginning of a battle. With this setup, everyone is
protected from bad status effects, instant death, and many magic attacks.
Geno Boost increases the damage you do by 50% and reduces the damage you
take by 50%.

"The reasoning behind this is to never have your healer die, and to make use
of her Troopa pin by using the Star Egg when she isn't healing. Mario's
speed is so amazingly high with this build, that if you initiate the Culex
battle with this setup, Mario will take his turn before Culex talks in
battle. All of his stats are incredibly high, that it makes the third
character unnecessary."
"Geno or Peach can be substituted depending on who you like to use. Unless
engaged in a boss battle, Peach should not be in the party. Mallow should
be used in her place with the troopa pin and his specific armor, and the
general strategy with him is to use strictly spells, unless there are less
than 3 monsters."
"If Bowser is substituted, use the Troopa Pin, and Heal shell. Use regular
attacks."

5.01: Frequently Asked Questions

1. Q: Why did you rank Geno as the best character?
A: -Geno is well-balanced in every stat
-Geno has excellent Special attacks (Geno Whirl, Geno Boost, Geno Flash)
-It is just my opinion, perhaps you should test the strengths and
weaknesses of each character and form your own opinion
2. Q: Why do you give Mario the Lazy Shell armor instead of Toadstool?
A: -I substituted Lazy Shell armor for Toadstool with the Quartz Charm,
which halves damage taken from enemy attacks. This allows Toadstool
to still survive very easily
-I want Mario to always live, because he can never replaced during
battle. Giving him strong defense is the way to survive.
-I like to keep Toadstool's speed high enough so that she can take her
turn quickly enough to heal the party before the enemies attack
-The Lazy Shell armor decreases the amount of HP that Toadstool can heal
3. Q: I do not like your setups/rankings, mine are better.
A: -Perhaps you should actually try my setups and rankings
-If yours are better, please send them to me and I will post them
-It is all just an opinion, neither of us is right or wrong
4. Q: What do you mean by some accessories (like the Quartz Charm) reducing
damage taken from enemies, and increasing damage done to enemies by 50%?
A: An increase of 50% is the same as 1.5x or 1.5 times the amount of
damage that would have occurred without the accessory being equipped.
For example: Mario does 100 points of damage to an enemy. After
equipping the Quartz Charm, he will do (1.5 x 100) points
of damage, which equals 150.
Mallow gets damaged 100 points from an enemy. After
equipping the Quartz Charm, he will receive half of
the damage (100 divided by 2), which equals 50.
