A quick word:

Hi, this is my first FAQ/walkthrough so please if you have any suggestions
feel free to email me. Also, I was wondering if anyone knew the name of the
Boss who fires guns, if so could you email me and tell me, I have forgotten,
and on a very quick search of the net I couldn't find it.

1.1 - Story:

The game is set in about the year 1630, in a province of Japan named Ohkami.
With the death of the feudal lord, an evil man called Gyokuro took power. He
had an oppressive rule, which brought much hardship to the region. A princess
opposed him, but she was imprisoned in Ohkami castle.

Kazamaru (the player) didn't like what was happening and so decided to fight
the Gyokuro regime single handedly, in order to save the princess and restore
peace to Ohkami. This means going through all the castle grounds, defeating
all the ninja under Gyokuro's command, finding secret scrolls and managing
not to get killed.




1.2 - Basic controls:

Directional shot: Button 1
Upward shot: Button 2
Disappear: Button 1 + Button 2




1.3 - Enemies

NINJA: For convenience, NINJA are defined as enemies that throw projectiles
at you.

Grey Ninja: The basic ninja in the game. There are a couple of variations as
the game progresses. In later levels they can rapidly spin around you
throwing shurikens at you, or they can quickly jump backwards.

Blue Ninja: A variation of the grey ninja

Rock Ninja: These are ninja hiding themselves as rocks. Once you've seen one,
they all look the same. They cant be killed until they reveal themselves.

Pop up Ninja: This ninja pops up out of the ground. Can be tricky unless you
are expecting them.

Scythe Ninja: Just like grey ninja except they throw scythes instead of
shuriken.

Wolf Ninja: These are ninja transformed into wolves. Notice when you kill
them they still have the man outline.

Lady Ninja: Red coloured ninja (I think are female anyway), they run back and
forth over a set path throwing shuriken at you and will not chase after you
unless you go further up the screen than them.

Kunoichi: These are a variation of the red ninja (kunoichi means female ninja,
I've just called them the two different names to differentiate between them).
They hide behind a building and jump out at you as you walk past there
position. After that they chase you and throw shuriken at you.



SAMURAI: SAMURAI are the enemies that run at you with a sword.

Blue Samurai: Slowest samurai

Green Samurai: Medium pace samurai

Aqua Samurai: Fastest samurai

Fireman: Not really a samurai, this enemy runs pretty fast and breathes fire
to kill you.



SPECIAL: These are not enemies per se, but they can kill you.

Horses: These run across the screen in level 7. There are three in each wave
and I have found it easiest to just vanish through them.

Ball shooter: From level 9, there are 3 of these which fire balls down the
wall. They are pretty easy to dodge as they only go straight down.



BOSSES:

Garlic with boomerang:

This is the boss you will be fighting the most. He throws small shuriken at
you, while tossing a boomerang (it's what I call it) in circles around in the
air. It takes approximately 8 hits to kill him. When he is almost dead (after
6 shots), he will change colour and consequently move faster. Best way to
kill him in most cases is to try and get right in front of him and fire
shurikens upwards as fast as you can. It's also handy to run away at the same
time so you can keep your distance. The boomerang thing can also be
troublesome as it doesn't come straight at you, so keep an eye out for it.
One trick is to get him stuck somewhere, like on a rock or the edge of a
building, and then keep firing shurikens from range to kill him.


Garlic with big shuriken:

This version of garlic has some big shuriken which he fires in your direction.
This big shuriken will block any of your shurikens and keep going. This boss
can be annoying because you can't just fire straight up at him as his big
shuriken will block your attacks. However, if you move slightly off centre,
you can just miss his shuriken but still manage to hit him, firing shurikens
upward. A good trick for this one is to get him stuck on a rock, then move
down so he is right at the top of your screen. He shouldn't throw his big
shuriken then, yet you will still be able to hit him.


Gunman:

I think this guy is easier than any other boss. He fires his guns at you,
with bullets travelling at about 5kmph. He also turns red when he is near
dead and increases speed. Simply rapidly fire upward shurikens at him,
running away if you feel the need. The part which can make this boss hard is
if there are other enemies around (especially in level 13), in that case try
and finish him off as quickly as possible.



1.4 - Scrolls and locations:


Green Scrolls: these are the scrolls that you need to look for throughout the
levels which ultimately reveal how to use a secret passage.

Green Scroll locations:
Level 1 - Half way through the level, one of the ninjas that is hiding as a
rock has it.

Level 4 - After the first kunoichi, go up the path, defeat the guys there and
shoot upwards at the left dog statue 5 times.

Level 6 - In the first island part of the stage (on the left hand side),
stand in front of the tree in the top corner and the scroll should appear.

Level 8 - Just before the boss, go into the right side grassed area. Go to
the top left and stand in front of the tree. The scroll should appear.

Level 9 - The last scroll is right at the top of the wall. If you have
collected all of them, you will just need to pick this one up and the level
will be finished. When garlic comes out, move to the far top right and the
scroll should appear.



Red Scrolls: these have two purposes, firstly they change the music to pump
you up, and secondly they give you use of the shurikens, which are larger and
will go through multiple enemies.

Red Scroll locations: (these are assuming that you don't have a red scroll
already)
Locations refer to enemies as written in the level by level enemy
descriptions.

Level 1: (E) blue samurai from the left of screen.

Level 2: (H) rock ninja

Level 3: (D) wolf ninja from top

Level 5: (B) grey ninja from left

Level 6: (I) lady ninja on top right

Level 7: (F) the 6th fireman

Level 8: (D) rock ninja on left

Level 9: (C) grey ninja from left and right

Level 10: (E) grey ninja from right

Level 11: (A) aqua samurai from top and bottom

Level 12: (B) aqua samurai



Blue Scrolls: these increase your running speed, very useful especially for
enemies toward the end of the game who can run faster than you normally.

Blue Scroll locations: (these are assuming that you don't have a blue scroll
already)
Locations refer to enemies as written in the level by level enemy
descriptions.

Level 1: (G) blue samurai from top.

Level 3: (E) grey ninja from top

Level 11: (A) aqua samurai from top and bottom

Level 12: (B) aqua samurai




1.5 - Level by level enemy encounters:

The following describes the enemies as they appear when killing them, each
encounter at a time. It does not describe the enemies when you run through
the stage, then turning around and kill them. If you run through the stage
you will only get the first several enemies chasing you, after that no other
enemies load (I think this is due to limited memory on SMS).


Level 1.
(A) 1 grey ninja on left when you start the level.
(B) 3 grey ninjas coming at you.
(C) A rock ninja on the left side before the gate.
(D) Another rock ninja after the gate.
(E) A Blue samurai from the left of screen. (Red scroll here)
(F) A rock ninja + 4 grey ninjas.
(G) 3 blue samurai from top. (Blue scroll here)
(H) Grey ninja from top right and rock ninja in centre (Green scroll here).
(I) Two blue samurai from top right.
(J) 4 grey ninja from top (with boss)
BOSS: Garlic, with boomerang. Tactic: pretty easy to beat, just run away from
him firing shurikens as quickly as you can at him. Make sure he is still
visible on the screen otherwise he won't get hit.

Green scroll. Half way through the level, one of the ninjas that is hiding as
a rock has it.


Level 2.
(A) to (G) Pop up ninja.
(H) Rock ninja and grey ninja from left. (Rock ninja has Red scroll)
(I) to (K) grey ninja from top left.
BOSS: Garlic, with boomerang.


Level 3.
(A) Scythe ninja from top
(B) 5 wolf ninja from top
(C) 5 wolf ninja + 2 grey ninja from top
(D) 6 wolf ninja from top (One of these has a Red scroll)
(E) 1 scythe ninja + 1 grey ninja from top (Blue scroll here)
(F) 5 wolf ninja from top
(G) 2 scythe ninja from top
(H) 5 wolf ninja from top
(I) 3 grey ninja from top
(J) 3 scythe ninja from top and sides (with boss)
BOSS: Garlic, with large shuriken. Tactic: this guy is easy to beat by just
running away from him firing upward shurikens while moving away from his
attacks. Alternatively you can run away straight down the middle until he
gets stuck on a rock. Then he can't move or attack you, and if you line it up
right you can just fire shurikens at him to kill him.


Level 4.
(A) 3 blue samurai from top left
(B) 2 blue samurai from top and left
(C) 2 blue samurai, from left and right
(D) 1 blue samurai + 2 lady ninja + 1 kunoichi
(E) 4 blue samurai from top and left
(F) 5 blue samurai from top (this is where the Green scroll is)
(G) 1 lady ninja + 2 kunoichi (1 hidden)
(H) 4 blue samurai from all around
(I) 4 blue samurai from top
BOSS: Garlic, with boomerang

Green scroll. After the first kunoichi, go up the path, defeat the guys there
and shoot upwards at the left dog statue 5 times.


Level 5.
This level has the right and left screen connected. so if a ninja is about to
fade through the left side, they will appear on the right side. The following
is the experience I had, staying on the first log until switching to a fast
log later.
(A) 2 grey ninja on either side
(B) grey ninja from left. (Red scroll here)
(C) grey ninja from right
(D) 3 grey ninja from right
(E) 1 grey ninja from right
(F) 2 grey ninja from right
(G) 3 grey ninja from right
(H) 2 grey ninja from right
BOSS: Garlic, with boomerang. Tactic: This can be difficult. Try to be far
away from him (so on the bottom of the screen) and fire shurikens on angles
and straight upwards (as needed) to kill him. If you get a good angle this
can be done really quickly. Also remember that when he disappears from one
side he will appear on the other.


Level 6.
(A) 3 grey ninja from top
(B) Kunoichi from right
(C) grey ninja from left
(D) kunoichi from right + 2 grey ninja
(E) lady ninja on left + 2 grey ninja from top
(F) 3 grey ninja from left and top

Level 7.
Besides all the horses
(A) to (L) Fireman from opposite side of you (eg if you are on left side they
come from right, also they come from the top part of one side if you are on
the bottom, and vice versa. So if you stay on the bottom right hand corner,
they will come from the top part of the left side) (6th fireman has Red
scroll)
BOSS: Garlic, with boomerang


Level 8.
(A) 2 green samurai from top
(B) 1 popup ninja in front
(C) 3 grey ninja from top left
(D) 1 popup ninja in front + 1 grey ninja from top left + 1 rock ninja on
left (rock ninja has Red scroll)
(E) 3 grey ninja from top
(F) 3 green samurai from top and right + 1 popup ninja
(G) 1 popup ninja
(H) 4 green samurai from top and bottom
(I) 1 grey ninja from left
(J) 1 popup ninja + 1 rock ninja
(K) 3 grey ninja from top

Green scroll. Just before the boss, go into the right side grassed area. Go
to the top left and stand in front of the tree. The scroll should appear.


Level 9.
(A) 2 blue ninja from top

(D) 4 grey ninja from left and right
(E) 2 blue ninja from top

Green scroll. The last scroll is right at the top of the wall. If you have
collected all of them, you will just need to pick this one up and the level
will be finished. When garlic comes out, move to the far top right and the
scroll should appear.


Level 10.
(A) 4 scythe ninja from top and bottom

This level has a secret entrance to the last stage, see below.


Level 11.
(A) 7 aqua samurai from top and bottom (they have both a Red scroll and a
Blue scroll)
(B) 6 green samurai from top and bottom
(C) 7 aqua samurai from top and bottom
(D) 4 green samurai from top and bottom (with boss)
BOSS: Gunman


Level 12.
(A) 6 green samurai
(B) 7 aqua samurai (they have both a Red scroll and a Blue scroll)
(C) 7 aqua samurai
(D) 7 aqua samurai (with boss)

In level 10, When you get to the section with 3 lanterns (grey things) stand
to the right of the 3rd one and shoot it 3 times and then vanish 3 times.
This should open the secret entrance to the hidden level.

Level 13
This level is the only one to have respawns. There are different areas in the
level with different enemies. If you go over the same spot twice you
encounter the same enemies twice.

The path to take is firstly left. Next right. Then middle (where boss is).





1.6 - Quick level guide:

This is a guide for getting through the game quickly without losing lives
(i.e. keeping the blue and red scroll powerups). Some parts can get difficult,
but the main strategy is to run away and vanish to avoid shurikens/enemies.
Once at the boss kill all the people running after you then kill the boss
(unless you need to get a green scroll). This strategy will most likely not
work so well if you don't have the blue scroll for a speed increase, as you
can't run away as fast. Using this strategy I managed to finish the game
without dying, in a fairly short amount of time.

Level 1:
You can't really cut down much time on this level by running through it, as
you have to pick up 3 scrolls in this level, and if you run through you will
miss them. The Red scroll is from the blue samurai coming from the left after
the gate. The Blue scroll is from the 3 blue samurai that come from the top
soon after. The green scroll comes from the grey ninja coming next. These are
all the scrolls to get on this level so you can run up to Garlic and kill him
and the rest of the ninja that come out. To kill Garlic, simply run away from
him while firing upwards shurikens at him while vanishing/dodging to avoid
harm.

Level 2: Not much to do here as it is an auto scrolling level. You can kill
or vanish from the popup ninjas above you until you get to the rock ninja.
Then try and stay left, killing the few ninjas remaining while vanishing from
boulders and shurikens. When Garlic appears just fire shurikens repeatedly at
him vanishing to avoid harm if need be.

Level 3:
Easy level. Go to the right at the start and just run up the right hand side,
vanishing to avoid a wolf and any thrown weapons. Then just keep going
straight till you hear boss music. Then turn around and slay them all. Garlic
is a bit harder this time as you cant attack him too well head on. I attack
straight on anyway (while running away), and shoot straight up, but just to
the right of him so it misses his big shuriken most of the time.

Level 4:
From start run to the right side of the screen and then straight up. You will
need to vanish once for kunoichi, and then at a safe distance turn around and
kill them all. Beware of kunoichi throwing shurikens at you at this part.
Then you need to go over to the left statue, stand below it and shoot it 5
times. This will get you the green scroll. Next part you simply run up the
right side again, till you hear boss music, then turn around, vanish through
the enemy and fire the auto up shurikens to kill them. In this part make sure
you go far enough up to get the second group of ninja, and the boss to come
out. Then for Garlic, just pummel him from in front.

Level 5:
This level can be difficult as you can't really run away. I stay on the first
block just killing the ninja as they come. When the ninja on the fast
travelling log from the left comes along, I kill him and get onto that log.
Eventually you'll get up to Garlic. He is easy in this one, just wait for him
to go through the left screen and reappear on the right. Then aim diagonal
shuriken at him and fire away, he should be dead in seconds.

Level 6:
This is a bit more difficult than the previous running attempts. From the
start go straight up and vanish through the ninja. He should throw a shuriken,
vanish to dodge it and you should be able to dodge the kunoichi too. Evade
the first kunoichi's shuriken to the right (hold straight up, and only after
the shuriken is thrown should you move right) then vanish through the second
kunoichi at the next building. Keep moving up to the end of the river/moat
thing, vanishing where needed, and then turn and kill. This part can be messy
but hopefully you get through fine. Now move over the bridge and stand in
front of the tree, the green scroll should appear, so take it. Next part you
need to start running straight up again. Run and vanish straight through the
centre of the back most ninja, hold straight up and vanish to escape both
their shuriken and kunoichi at the same time. Keep running up till the boss
music begins to play, then turn and kill. Some ninja may get stuck on the
bridge, so you might want to run around them and fire upwards at them. Garlic
is once again the simple fire upwards at him while keeping at distance.

Level 7:
I don't have much advice for this one. If you are on the left side, enemies
come from the right side and if you are on the right, they come from the left.
Just vanish through horses and kill the fire breathing guys without letting
them get to close. Garlic is similar to usual. Just line him up so you keep
shooting left, then vanish through horses and his weapons.

Level 8:
Another run away level. Just dodge the guys at the start and run straight up.
Be careful of the popup ninjas, vanish through them as you need. As you get
towards the end of the level (where there is the long grassed area on the
right) turn around and kill all the enemies. Once again be careful of popup
ninjas, as they don't follow the rest of the crowd. You need to go into the
right are and stand in front of the top right tree so that you can get the
green scroll. Once you have this go back out and walk towards the boss. There
should be a group of green samurai you have to kill, but after that just
attack Garlic in the usual fashion.

Level 9:
This level you don't have to kill anyone as long as you have collected all
the green scrolls. Just go up the right hand side vanishing and moving to
dodge shurikens and people. This can be difficult but as soon as you get away
from them, all you have to do is to get up to the top of the wall. Stay on
the right side and the scroll should appear. Pick it up and the level is
finished. Doing this without killing anyone gives you a massive pts bonus,
with lots of extra lives. However, it resets the amount of points (they get
to 999999, then restart) and it does take sometime to sit through.
Alternatively you could just turn around and kill all the people once you
have reached the top, then dispose of Garlic in the usual way.

Level 10 (secret path):
This is the easiest level by far if you can do it right and have all the
scrolls. You simply hold up, you don't need to dodge anything because nothing
should hit you. Once you get to the third lantern on the right go over to it
and from its right side, hit it 3 times, then vanish 3 times. If you do this
quickly enough you should not get hit and get to move on to the last level.
Once again this gives you the massive point bonus (see Level 9), so you might
want to kill people to avoid the waste of time.

Level 10 (miss secret path):
To miss the secret path simply hold straight up on the controller. Once you
run into a tree, move around it and up till you hear boss music. Then turn
back and dispose of the ninjas in pursuit. This time you have to kill a new
boss. He works much the same as Garlic, even easier. Just stand at a distance
and shoot straight up at him.

Level 11 (miss secret path):
Go straight up, vanishing through the enemies until you hit the boss music.
Then move around to the left, vanishing if you need, and fire an upward
shuriken at them. Then kill boss as per usual.

Level 12 (miss secret path):
Go straight up, vanishing through the enemies until you hit the boss music.
Then move around to the left, vanishing if you need, and fire an upward
shuriken at them. Then kill boss as per usual.

Level 13 (Secret path):
This level seems hard, but with the run away technique it can be a bit easier,
some luck comes in handy too. Simply run on the left side first, vanishing
through whatever enemies you have. Then take the right path with a similar
strategy. Be careful of the fire breathing guys that are probably chasing you,
they run pretty fast. Take the middle path last to the boss. Once you hear
the boss music, move around backwards on the left side and destroy all those
enemies that were chasing you, then give the boss some and that should be it.
