1.00 Introduction

This is walkthrough for Sonic's Edusoft for the Sega Master System which was
developed by Tiertex Design Studios and originally planned to be published by
U.S. Gold in Europe.
Edusoft is short for education software, so the full title of the game is
likely to be Sonic's Educational Software. No box shot has been found as of
writing this guide.
It is an educational game aimed at under 12 years olds, and includes games that
involve math and word creation. So older players are likely to only enjoy it
for its novelty value. For its time, it would've been a great game for
children.
The difficulty of the game can be adjusted so even older players are
challenged.
There are also three bonus games which are not educational.
This guide will tell you how to play all the games and complete the game.
This guide does NOT contain any of the following:

3.00 Minigames

3.05 Minigames Introduction

You must complete these minigames to progress through the game, you get stars
for winning the game which unlock new transportation methods on the world map.
You also need to play them all to unlock the gates on the map.
The difficulty of the minigames are heavily influenced by the options you
choose.

3.10 Maths Games
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Math Minigame
You have 30 seconds to solve each of the simple math questions Use the cursor
to select the answer and press A to accept.
You have 7 seconds to answer on the hardest setting.
The simple 3+3=? type questions and the group questions.
The group questions will ask 'press of groups of x'. You will need press A when
the numbers showing are multiples of that number.
You need to get 7 correct to pass the stage. If you get 7 wrong you must
restart.
If the timer runs out on any questions, you simply fail the question.
How many questions you have got wrong is indicated below by Sonic racing the
badnick.
There are four math games in total:
Chalk board with X - math multiplication game
Chalk board with + - math addition game
Chalk board with - - math subtraction game
Chalk board with division sign - math division game
You shouldn't need a calculator.

3.20 Word Games

Word minigame
You are given a set of letters and must create a word out of them before the
time runs out.
Select the letters in the correct order of the word you see.
Each game is themed towards a certain set of words:
Soccer/foot(ball) - sport words game
Lion face - animal words game
Boat - sea/water related word game
Turkey legs - food related word game
Depending on your difficulty, the length of the word will be from 3 letters up
to a total of 9.
To completely destroy this minigame, complete the first word then refer to the
word list section which provides a list of all the words for you! Hit CTRL+F
and type in the first word to jump to it.

4.00 Coffee Break Games

4.10 Coffee Break Games Introduction
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Coffee break games, bonus games or fun games are optional minigames shown as
balloons on the world map. You don't achieve or unlock anything by completing
them, they all end after 1 minute of play.
They are simply 'coffee breaks' that you get between the educational games.
The games are all about timing, instead of math/English puzzles. There are
three in total: Balloon Pop, Trampoline and Green Hill.

4.20 Balloon Pop Bonus
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You tell Sonic when to slide across to pop one of the balloons. You must time
it so he crosses the gap when the balloon is at the correct height so he pops
it.
You must only get the blue and red balloons, and avoid the grey ones as they
end the game. Popping balloons gives you a 100 points, and you have 1 minute
before the game ends.

4.30 Trampoline Bonus
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The aim of this game is to prevent Sonic from hitting the floor by controlling
the trampoline.
Every time he hits the trampoline you get 100pts. If he misses the trampoline
it's game over.
The end game ends after one minute.
The best way to do this is try and keep the trampoline near the middle, so if
he suddenly does a large jump you'll have enough time to reach him.

4.40 Green Hill Bonus

You have to dodge enemies and other obstacles and also jump for the red/blue
balloons that score you 100pts each. If hold forward your jumps are quicker. If
you hit any obstacles, it's game over, or when a minute is up.

5.10 World Map / Introduction Information

The game starts on an overworld that contains lots of landmarks which lead to
minigames, coffee break games, vehicles and so on. To progress through the game
you must successfully complete the minigames to gain x amount of stars.
Certain gates or transport vehicles will not work until you have gained enough
stars or played the correct amount available minigames.
Harder difficulties require more stars to progress and also have much harder
minigames.
Refer to the appropriate section for in-depth information on each minigame.

5.20 Walkthrough

The format of the guide is as follows, whenever you unlock a bunch of new games
on the world map, a splitter ---like this--- will be placed to separate the
milestone. So to start, you have 3 unlocked games, this progresses through 3,
5, 8, 12, 14, 16.
---3 Games---
This walkthrough will be completed on simple difficulty, though if you are
choosing another difficulty just make sure you refer to the correct answers
list. Also you will need a much larger amount of stars to complete the game.
(80+ on hardest difficulty)
To start with configure any options you want by entering the question mark on
the right.
Options Screen
Start - Starts the game (exits back to world map)
Level - Difficulty of game, simple/easy/medium/hard/complex
Guesses - one/three/five/seven/ten
Speed - snail/tortoise/hare/leopard/sonic
Control - Standard/4-way
Player 2 - three letter player 2 name
Player 1 - three letter player 1 name
Players - How many players 1/2

There are 5 barriers to get through, this is how the guide is divided up by,
here is the list:
West Helicopter - Get 4 stars and play all open games.
North Gate - Play all newly unlocked games on North West island.
South Gate - Play all newly unlocked games.
East Balloon - Play all newly unlocked games and have 14 stars.
South Helicopter - Play all newly unlocked games and have 17 stars.
Ending screen - Play all open games and have 27 stars.
Higher you set the difficulty level, the more stars you'll require.

For each minigame you decide to play, refer to the section for that minigame.
When you've done that you need to play and win one of the three open games,
two maths game or a boat word game enough times until you've got 4 stars.
Make sure you play all of them.
---5 Games---
Now you can enter the helicopter, play both the word and math game on this
island which will unlock the your first gate. Return on the helicopter and go
through the now unlocked gate.
---8 Games---
Repeat this again with the newly opened three minigames, you DON'T need to win
them, just play them. Also you don't need to play the bonus game.
---12 Games---
Now the lower gate will have opened. Pass the helicopter and play all the newly
unlocked minigames until you have 14 stars.
---14 Games---
Now that you have 14s stars, enter the hot air balloon, and play both new games
until you have 17 stars.
---16 Games---
Back track to the helicopter you passed before and ride it to the last two
games.
Play these two games until you get 27 stars, and you will get the following
message:

A1. The game is likely to be unfinished, as it saw no official release,
unfortunately.

A2. As above, it is unfinished & unreleased, it is also very old and should be
compared to other educational games of that time period. 1985-1992.

A3. Sonic was/is Sega's mascot, it would've served as good publicity having an
educational game with his face on for the Master System. It also would've
provided an ideal route of getting the system into schools.
Q4. Would the game have sold well if it was released?
Q5. In my opinion, if this was released on time with minor improvements, it
would've sold well. I believe it was on-par with other educational games
of that time. It also would've served as an ideal trolling tool for kids
of that day. Think about it.
"Hey Junior, want to play SONIC THE HEDGEHOG on the SEGA MASTER SYSTEM,
instead of school work?" - Evil teacher/tutor.
"Oh yes please teacher, Sonic is awesome!" - excited 90s kid.
