Introduction [INTRO]

Hello and welcome to this FAQ for Great Golf.  This FAQ is for the SMS
Completion Project on GameFAQs.  Our goal is to write a guide for every SMS
game that doesn't already have one.  If you're having trouble with this game, I
hope this FAQ will help you out.

Game Basics [GAMEB]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This section will tell you the controls of this game, how to play each game
mode, and how to swing the club properly.

================
Controls [CONTR]
================

D-Pad...........................Moves cursor
Button 1........................Confirm menu selection; test wind
Button 2........................Confirm shot type

==================
Game Modes [GAMEM]
==================

Stroke Play
-----------

Stroke Play is the basic game in golf.  You play each hole and add up your
scores at the end.  The one with the lowest total score wins.  Easy huh?

Match Play
----------

Match Play is a little different the Stroke Play.  When one person scores
better on a hole than the other person, the person wins the hole.  The only way
to win is to win individual holes.  If you tie on a hole, the score is
unchanged and you move on to the next hole.  The person who won more holes
wins.  If you have a tie, you go to extra holes.  The first to win a hole wins
the whole match.

=================
The Swing [SWING]
=================

Once on the tee, press Button 2 to choose your club.  More than likely you'll
be hitting a 1W off the tee.  Press Button 2 again to choose your stance.  This
doesn't really affect the shot in this game, so just move on.  Now, you need to
aim your shot.  Remember to look at the wind in the upper left-hand corner of
the screen.  Now, a red meter will appear on the left side of the screen.  Wait
until it's the power that you want to hit the ball.  That's all there is to it!

===============
Putting [PUTTG]
===============

Putting is probably the hardest thing in this game.  When on the green, press
Button 1 to look at the slope of the putt.  Adjust your aiming, set the right
power, and knock it in.  There's really nothing else to explain here.

Hole-by-hole Strategies [HOLES]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

======
Hole 1
======

Par 4
468 yards

This is a fairly long hole to start out your round.  The drive is fairly
simple.  Just make sure you keep away from the bunkers down the left side of
the fairway.  The second shot is a lot tougher with three bunkers guarding the
green.

======
Hole 2
======

Par 3
177 yards

This is a really easy hole to par.  I recommend a 3-iron from the tee.  Once on
the green, you should have a chance at birdie.

======
Hole 3
======

Par 4
330 yards

You may be thinking, "OMG, my ball is gonna go in the creek!!"  Don't worry,
unless you really screw up in the power meter, you'll clear the creek and land
on the fairway near the green.  The second shot shouldn't be a problem unless
you hit it in the creek.

======
Hole 4
======

Par 4
399 yards

With water down the entire left side, your best bet is to hit it in the right-
hand portion of the fairway.  Yes, there are bunkers, but you don't want to end
up in the water, right?  From here, the hole is fairly simple...just don't hit
it in the water.

======
Hole 5
======

Par 4
351 yards

The large pond in the middle of the fairway forces you to use a shorter club.
I would chose a 5W for this hole.  With your approach shot, you're going to
have to carry the ball to the green, since it's surrounded by bunkers.

======
Hole 6
======

Par 5
495 yards

When you first see this hole, all you can do is look stunned.  This hole is
made up of five islands.  The teebox, three fairway islands, and the green.  If
you have the wind going with you, you can drive it to the second island.  If
not, you're going to have to hit to the first.  If you made it to the second,
you have a chance for the green.  Again, if you didn't, you're going to have to
hit to the third island, then to the green.

======
Hole 7
======

Par 3
141 yards

For this short Par 3, I recommend an 8-iron off the tee.  This will put you on
the green or just off the green.  From there, it's a fairly easy chip/putt.

======
Hole 8
======

Par 5
546 yards

When you aim your tee shot, aim more to the left, since the default aim will
get you an "OB".  With your second shot, lay-up in front of the water and hit
your third shot on to have a putt at birdie.

======
Hole 9
======

Par 4
267 yards

This short Par 4 is probably the easiest hole on the course.  With the wind
blowing with you, you can almost reach the green with your drive.  If you don't
walk away with a birdie, you've missed the easiest chance on the course.

=======
Hole 10
=======

Par 5
534 yards

This is probably the easiest Par 5 in the game.  The tee shot is simple because
you're already lined up to the middle of the fairway.  Hitting a 1W without
wind gets you to the end of the first straight patch.  From here, you can hit a
3W to get you near the green in two strokes.  You should at least manage a par
on this hole.

=======
Hole 11
=======

Par 3
210 yards

A 3W is the ideal club on this Par 3.  Depending on the wind, you may or may
not avoid the bunker in the front of the green, but it's an easy chip out.  Par
is the ideal score on this hole.

=======
Hole 12
=======

Par 4
309 yards

This is yet another snake-like hole.  Aim your tee shot well to the right to
have the best chance to hit the fairway.  From there, the only thing you have
to worry about is the two bunkers guarding the front of the green.

=======
Hole 13
=======

Par 4
270 yards

Although it's a short hole, it can pose for a challenge when played wrong.  On
the tee, hit a 3-iron to hit if farthest you can without going into the pond.
Once you're safely in the fairway, the shot to the green is simple.

=======
Hole 14
=======

Par 3
192 yards

For the last Par 3 on the course, I recommend a 3W off the tee.  You may have
to take a little off it, but the 5W doesn't quite get there.

=======
Hole 15
=======

Par 4
414 yards

You have two choices off the tee on this dogleg right.  You can either hit a 1W
and aim well right and flirt with the bunker, or you can club down and hit to
the edge of the fairway.  If you hit a good drive, the hole is a piece of cake.

=======
Hole 16
=======

Par 4
375 yards

This is a pretty tough tee shot.  I would recommend a 3W and hit it in between
the two fairway bunkers.  With the green guarded by three bunkers, I advise
that you should carry the ball to the front of the green to keep safe.

=======
Hole 17
=======

Par 4
384 yards

This hole may look very thin, but it's fairly simple.  Hit your drive in
between the fairway bunker and the tree in the fairway.  From here, it should
be about an 8-iron to the green.

=======
Hole 18
=======

Par 5
471 yards

Your first instinct is to avoid the long beach down the right-hand of the hole.
The best spot for the drive is in between the water hazard and the beach.  If
you want to play really safe, hit a 3W or a 5W off the tee.  From here, lay up
to the edge of the fairway and play from there.
