    INTRODUCTION
o---------------------o

I just had to get one more SMS game in before the end of September and I decided
to knock out Great Basketball by SEGA. In all, I have done 18 FAQs total this
month and 16 of those including this one are for the Sega Master System for the
Completion Project. I pretty much broke the record for the most FAQs in a month
by myself technically even though 2 other authors wrote an FAQ themselves but
the record was 12 so you catch my drift.

       OVERVIEW
o---------------------o

This is basketball at the professional level. Full of international competition
from the first jump ball to the last jump shot. Whether it's four on three or
three on two - the action is fast and furious. And there are no favorites in
this demanding play. You'll be called for double dribbling, cheered for every
slam-dunk and carried off the court for making the winning free throw. But so
will your opponent. So go for it. Your tough offense can put a "fast break" in
the opposing team's stride while your defense remains solid as a rock. But think
fast - because two can play at this game - and only one can win!

        TEAMS
o---------------------o

This is more of an international style of basketball as you will play as one of
eight nations.

USA                  SHOOT:2 PASS:1 JUMP:8 SPEED:9
Canada (CAN)         SHOOT:4 PASS:2 JUMP:7 SPEED:7
Soviet Union (URS)   SHOOT:3 PASS:2 JUMP:7 SPEED:8
Japan (JPN)          SHOOT:4 PASS:4 JUMP:6 SPEED:6
Cuba (CBA)           SHOOT:1 PASS:1 JUMP:6 SPEED:12
Czechoslovakia (TCH) SHOOT:7 PASS:5 JUMP:5 SPEED:3
Italy (ITA)          SHOOT:4 PASS:5 JUMP:6 SPEED:5
Hungary (HUN)        SHOOT:6 PASS:5 JUMP:7 SPEED:2

After you choose a team, you will then choose the opponent that you want to face
off against. Player 1 is red and the CPU or Player 2 is blue. Each team has a
different area of expertise. Refer to the chart above to see how well they play
in terms of shooting, passing, jumping, and Speed respectively

      GAMEPLAY
o---------------------o

-Choose a 1 or 2 player game. Choose your team then choose your opponent if you
are playing a 1-player game. You get a treat of listening to the selected team's
national anthem.

-To shoot the ball, press 1 to leap onto the air and hold it to delay the shot,
release the 1 button to shoot the ball. Release it close to the rim to dunk the
ball.

-Each shot is worth 2 points within the 3-point line. Behind the arc is worth 3
points. You gain 1 point for making a free throw.

-Free throws are done when fouled in the act of shooting or if an 8th foul is
occured where by pushing or by charging. Pushing is more of defensive foul and
Charging is an offensive foul. Any type of foul after 8 is free throws otherwise
the ball will be inbounded.

-Unlike regulation basketball, this is played similar to college basketball as
you will play 2 halves instead of 4 quarters. After one half is over, you get
to view the halftime show with cheerleaders dancing. Then play the next half.

-If you manage to win the game, you will go to a new feature called Winning Shot
where each player will take a shot each from the 3-point line. Each shot you
make will earn you a vitality point to go towards your stats for future games
to take on tougher opponents. You use vitality to increase your speed, shot,
jump and pass abilities.

-If you manage to win 7 straight games, you win the gold medal. Good job.

-You may have noticed this but there is a bunch of voice acting in this game.
You will hear the announcer say Jump Ball, Dunk Shot, 3-point shot, etc.

Rules are as follows:

-Traveling is called when a player fails to release the ball in the air before
touching the ground. You must be facing the hoop in order to properly release
the ball.

-Failure to inbound the ball in 5 seconds results in a 5 sec violation.

-Nowadays, you have to cross center court within 8 seconds but during these days
you had 10 seconds to cross or it would be a 10 sec violation.

-After crossing half court, you cannot cross back or it will result in a back-
court violation.
