Phantasy Star II: Text Adventures [ファンタシースターII テキストアドベンチャー]
was a compilation of eight games based around the main characters before the
events of Phantasy Star II, they were released on 1991 for the SEGA MegaNet.
Later SHILKA'S, AMIA'S, HUEY'S, and EUSIS'S ADVENTURES were included in "Game
no Kandzume" VOL. 1 [ゲームのかんづめ VOL. 1] and NEI'S, RUDGER'S, KINDS'S, and
ANNE'S ADVENTURES were included in "Game no Kandzume" VOL. 2 [ゲームのかんづめ
VOL. 2] both released on March 18th, 1994 for the Mega CD. All eight games
were included in SEGA AGES 2500 Series Vol. 32: Phantasy Star Complete
Collection [SEGA AGES 2500 シリーズ Vol.32 ファンタシースターコンプリート
コレクション] for the PlayStation 2. The text adventure concept is also used
in Phantasy Star Adventure [ファンタシースターアドベンチャー], released on
March 13th, 1992 for the Game Gear.
This specific walkthrough covers KINDS'S ADVENTURE [カインズの冒険]. Kinds Ji
An [カインズ・ジ・アン] is known as Josh Kain in the English version of
Phantasy Star II. The story takes place three years before II. Kinds has run
away to escape the monotony of his hometown and is living a tough life in a
run-down city apartment. The developments in this story, the most sci-fi-ish
of the eight, suit mecha-lover Kinds.
The eight compilations that made up the Phantasy Star II: Text Adventures was
never released outside of Japan. And as of January 2010, four out of the eight
Adventures have been unofficially translated by M.I.J.E.T. and this walkthrough
will follow their translation. I have also included the Japanese, so please
encode this document in "Japanese (Shift-JIS)" to be able to view the Japanese.
There are spoilers abound in this walkthrough, I have written it to tell the
player how to beat this game. Due to that, there may be some areas I will skip
as they serve no purpose toward getting to the end. Therefore to experience
the most fulfillment out this game is to explore areas on your own and use this
as a guide to help keep you on the right track. I hope you enjoy playing this
game as much as I did!

There are times where Kinds will encounter humans, robots, and biomonsters and
they must be defeated in order to progress.
They will be shown to the upper-left corner of the screen. To attack an enemy,
you will have to select "Use" [使う], then choose a weapon currently in your
inventory, and finally select the enemy to use it on. Unfortunately, Kinds
cannot use his bare fists in battle, he must find weapons in order to battle.
Each weapon have their own unique Attack Power [AP] value, the weakest will
have an AP of 1, while the strongest will have an AP of 5.
Whenever Kinds or the enemy attack, a six-sided dice will roll onto the screen.
Kinds's damage is displayed as the blue dice rolled from the right side, and
the enemy's damage is displayed as the red dice rolled from the left side. The
amount of dice will increase depending on how strong the weapon or enemy is.
The amount of damage dealt is calculated by multiplying the AP by the amount
rolled. However if the dice amount rolled is 5 or less, the attack will miss
and no damage will be dealt.
For example: If Kinds attacks with the Knife with 1 AP and the dice roll is
10, he will deal 1X10=10 points of damage to the enemy.
Once Kinds's HP reaches 0, you will get a Game Over. Kinds cannot restore his
HP during battle. However if he needs healing, Kinds will have to visit the
diner and talk to the old man. He'll restore his HP for 10 Meseta. Or you can
use the capsule at the capsule interior in the warehouse for healing.

The title screen starts up with a green background and an image of a city in
the center, the text around it reads "PHANTASY STAR II: KINDS'S ADVENTURE".
Press the START button to begin the game.
It shows you a green screen which tells you how to play this game.

There are two kinds of objects: those that can be taken, and those that
can't. You can only use items that are in your possession.
4. Combat
When engaged in battle, "use" your weapon on your opponent. There may also
be situations where you can win without using weapons.
When you press the START button again, you will be shown the prologue.

The prologue narrates the time and location of KINDS'S ADVENTURE:
Time : 1281 A.W., Autumn
Place : Lume, on the planet Motavia
Character: Kinds
At fourteen years of age he rushed out of Romtat, the town of his birth, like
he was running away from home. He had been living alone for the past four
years in a seedy town called Lume.
I was jarred awake at 2 A.M. by the sound of an AirPat flying past my
apartment. The city was freezing, but my cold, hard, laser bed was
surprisingly comfortable.
Thus starts KINDS'S ADVENTURE.

Kinds starts off in his room at an apartment in Lume. A knife and a core can
be seen here. You can look at his favorite PC model, select "Look" [見る] and
"MG-68" [MG-68] to learn he can use it to connect to outside communications
lines, thus honing his skills at computer hacking. Select "Take" [取る] and
"Knife" [ナイフ], and then select "Take" [取る] and "Core" [基板]. We learn
that Kinds is trying to make a psy-gun, but he still needs a few more parts.
And today is the time to complete this project he's been building for years.
Select "Move" [いどうする], press the up directional key to "North", and press
the A button to move north.

Yuuki's, Kinds's friend, apartment is to the east. He hasn't returned yet, he
works for a computer company as a programmer. He often won't return for days
at a time. Kinds think he might be back tonight with the data he requested.
But he might stop at the bar on his way home. Select "Move" [いどうする] and
go "North" toward the elevator.

You are currently on the fifth floor, select "Move" [いどうする] and "Down".
Select "Move" [いどうする] and "South" to leave the apartment complex.

To the south is the shopping district, for now we need to get to the bar to
look for Yuuki. Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "South".

There's lots to do here, but for now we're going straight to the bar. Select
"Move" [いどうする] and "South", "South", and "East".

Obviously there's tons of drunk patrons around. Yuuki isn't here, let's check
upstairs. Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "Up".

A drunk man is screaming here. Select "Look" [見る] and "Man" [男], this
rat-faced punk is named Nezumi. [And Nezumi is Japanese for "rat".] He starts
dissing Kinds and draws his knife. Time to show him whose boss! Nezumi uses a
knife in battle and he only has 20 HP, 1 AP, and deals damage with 2 dice.
Start your first battle by selecting "Use" [使う], then "Knife" [ナイフ] and
Nezumi [ネズミ]. Afterward, Nezumi will run away threatening that as long as
Melville is here, they can do whatever they like. Of course this city would be
overrun by hoodlums. Select "Move" [いどうする] and "Down".

Well, Yuuki isn't here. But talk to the bartender here by selecting "Look"
[見る] and "Bartender" [マスター]. He asks Kinds if he doesn't mind to take a
look at the air conditioner on the second floor. Back up we go, select "Move"
[いどうする] and "Up".

Damn, we forgot to take our tools with us! So, let's go back down and get
our tools. As obvious as it would be to find it in his bedroom, we'll have to
go rummage through some trash. Select "Move" [いどうする] and "Down", "West",
"North", and "West" for a quick pit stop.

I guess the 70's are not dead. Anyways, a girl named Sue is dancing here.
Select "Look" [見る] and "Sue" [スー], Kinds would note that Sue might have a
crush on him. She tells him that McCoy wanted to tell him that he got the
"stuff". She doesn't know what that means, but we'll get to McCoy later. Now
select "Move" [いどうする] and "West".

There is a tool kit sitting amongst the garbage, select "Take" [取る] and "Tool
Kit" [工具]. Now back to the bar, select "Move" [いどうする] and "East",
"East", "South", "East", and "Up".

The air conditioner is making a lot of rattling noises. Kinds eventually
repaired it and the bartender happily gave him 200 Meseta for payment. Now you
have 250 Meseta on you. Now we can go see McCoy, before you go, make sure that
you do NOT drop anything in the Bar or it'll be gone forever. Select "Move"
[いどうする] and go "Down" and "West".

Just as you left the bar, the rear part of the building exploded. WHOOPS!
Seems that Kinds screwed up on the connections in the wiring. It'll be best
if he leaves. Now the bar is obliterated and you cannot enter there again.
Oh well, select "Move" [いどうする] and go "South" and "East".

The McCoy Company is run by an old man named McCoy. Select "Look" [見る] and
"McCoy" [マッコイ], he tells Kinds that his stuff came in and took 200 Meseta
as payment. Now we're back to 50 Meseta. The item Kinds ordered was a gun
frame, another part needed to make the psy-gun. Now let's go to the Chinese
restaurant, select "Move" [いどうする] and go "West", "North", and "West".

As Kinds enters, the host of the restaurant starts yelling at him. He tells
him that he knew he was the person responsible for destroying the bar and the
bartender called the police on him. Now he's upset and wants Kinds to leave.
Uh oh... Before we go, select "Move" [いどうする] and go "Up".

There is a couple here, Kinds recalled seeing that man before. Select "Look"
[見る] and "Couple" [カップル], he mentions that the man name's is Chang and
he has a lot of influence in this area. Select "Look" [見る] and "Chang"
[チャン] to strike a conversation with him. He give Kinds a coin for visiting
his establishment [And not burn it down to the ground maybe?]. We can use this
coin at the slot machines, let's head toward the casino. Select "Move"
[いどうする] and go "Down", "East", "North", "North", and "West".

Quite noisy here. Select "Look" [見る] and "Randolph" [ランドルフ] to note
that this tall, lanky punk with a flair for heavy metal is Kinds's friend. But
he is too absorbed in the slots to pay him any mind. Maybe we can get him to
notice us if we give him this coin. Select "Use" [使う], then "Coin" [コイン]
and "Randolph" [ランドルフ]. He thanks Kinds for his thoughtfulness and warns
him about Melville. He also tosses Kinds a glowstick, now we can go out and
rave to our hearts delight. Thanks, dude! Let's put this glowstick to some
use, but not at the disco as you might imagine, we're going to do some sewer
digging. Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "West", "South", "South", and
"South" to a dead end.

There is a manhole here, select "Look" [見る] and "Manhole" [マンホール] to
notice that the cover has been taken off. Now you can go inside. Select
"Move" [いどうする] and go "Down".

If you did not have a glowstick on you, you will not be able to see inside of
here. But if you do, you would notice that there is a passage to the east.
Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "East".
Deeper in the underground tunnels, there appears to be a way out above you.
Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "Up".

| GARBAGE DUMP [ゴミすて場] |

We now ended up in a garbage dump, there is a junked computer system visible
amongst the trash. Select "Take" [取る] and "Parts" [部品]. Now let's see if
Yuuki ever came back, select "Move" [いどうする] and go "West", "West", "West",
"North", "North", "Up", and "South".

There is a light on in Yuuki's room. Select "Look" [見る] and "Yuuki's Room"
[ユウキの部屋]. Yuuki confirms that he's home and now you can enter his
place. Select "Move" [いどうする] and "East".

Yuuki is working on his computer, select "Look" [見る] and "Yuuki" [ユウキ].
He tells him that he had a hard time trying to get the data for him. He wants
Kinds to give him the core and he'll insert the data for him. He won't take
the core as is, since it is incomplete. Select "Use" [使う], then "Parts"
[部品] and "Core" [基板] to turn it into a full core.
Now select "Use" [使う], then "Full Core" [完成基板] and "Yuuki" [ユウキ]. He
will program the data into the new gun core. Yuuki is still confused as to
what Kinds is using this robotic circuitry data for. Then Yuuki will tell him
that this is the last time he'll do this sort of job for him.
Now for the final touch, select "Use" [使う], then "Gun Core" [銃の基板] and
"Gun Frame" [銃のフレーム]. Kinds will insert the core and voila, it is now a
psy-gun! Rejoice at your new weapon, now to test it out. Those robotic police
are looking for Kinds, so let's see what this baby can do. Select "Move"
[いどうする] and "West", "North", "Down", "South", "South", "West", "West",
and "West" toward the poli-box.

A poli-box is a kind of kiosk that houses police officer robots. They tell
Kinds that he is under arrest and he should come quietly. Yeah, right! Let's
turn this police robot into a scrap of metal. The Officer only has 60 HP, 2
AP, and deals damage with 2 dice. Unfortunately, your knife has no effect on
these guys, but that is what your psy-gun is for! Select "Use" [使う], then
"Psy-Gun" [サイコガン] and "Officer" [ポリス]. Just one good shot is all it
takes to take this Officer down. With this Officer gone, now we can see
what's behind the poli-box, select "Move" [いどうする] and "West".

This warehouse had closed down some time ago due to the appearances of the
biomonsters. There is a dispute going on amongst three or four men. As Kinds
walk over to the men, he received a sharp blow to the back of his head and he
blacks out...

| ROOM INSIDE WAREHOUSE [倉庫内の部屋] |

Kinds wakes up and finds himself in a dim room tied up with some wire. Before
him stands five to six men, a thin man in a leather jacket spoke to him. It
was Melville, the gang leader. Melville wants Kinds to lend him his talent, he
wants him to target Mother Brain. Kinds told him that would be impossible to
get inside, let alone destroy it. Melville said that he heard that Maria's
father from the boutique used to work on Mother Brain many years ago. So he
might still remember the password used to temporarily deactivate its defense
system. Since Melville really needs a wrecker to do this job for him and
obviously Kinds refused to cooperate, Melville tells Kinds that he will have to
stay here until their work is complete. Melville leaves with his gang, now
we're all alone. We gotta get outta here!
Unfortunately, you are unable to do anything in your situation since you are
stripped of all your items. Select "Look" [見る] and "Window" [窓], and then
select "Look" [見る] and "Window" [窓] again for Sue to appear.

Now you are in control of Sue, you gotta save Kinds! She starts off with 40
HP, 10 HP less than Kinds. And she also has no weapons on her, so you will
need to find her something she can use to defend herself. First select "Move"
[いどうする] and go "South", "South", and "East".

Sue will trip on something and it turns out to be a hammer! Select "Take"
[取る] and "Hammer" [ハンマー]. Unfortunately this is not a weapon, but
maybe we can put it to some use. Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "West",
"South", "South", "Up", and "East".

There is an Amoeboid here and it has only 30 HP, 1 AP, and deals damage with 2
dice. Before we do anything, select "Use" [使う], then "Hammer" [ハンマー] and
"Crates" [木箱]. She will smash the creates into pieces leaving behind a
para-gun for the taking, and this will cause the Amoeboid to attack. Select
"Take" [取る] and "Para-Gun" [パラガン], and the Amoeboid will attack once
more. Now we can fight back!
Select "Use" [使う], then "Para-Gun" [パラガン] and "Amoeboid" [アメボイド].
After the Amoeboid is defeated, you can leave. We are going to get Sue all
healed up, select "Move" [いどうする] and go "West", "Down", "North", "North",
and "West" toward the capsule interior.

Select "Look" [見る] and "Label" [カプセル内] to read that this machine will
dispense trimate gas. Select "Look" and "Switch" [カプセル内] for Sue to get
herself completely restored. Let's go back, select "Move" [いどうする] and go
"East", "South", "South", "Up", and "Up".

There is a very bad man here. He has only 50 HP, 1 AP, and deals damage with 2

wait for him here since he has to stop Melville. First we would need our stuff
back. Select "Look" [見る] and "Sue" [スー] to notice what she went through to
save him. What a lovely girl...
Select "Move" [いどうする] and go "South", "South", and "Up".

Maria and her father are back here, Maria has been crying. Select "Look"

[マリアの父親]. Instead of his usual angry drunk self, he is calm, he tells
Kinds to stop Melville from blowing up Mother Brain. Kinds demands to know the
password, and Maria's father gives in and tells him that he would need to tap
into Mother Brain's communication lines to make use of it. Thankfully we have
our PC model in our room to help us hack into there.
Let's go back to our room, select "Move" [いどうする] and go "West", "West",
"North", "North", "North", "North", "Up", "South", and "South".

Melville is here, but his gang are nowhere to be seen. Select "Look" [見る]
and "Melville" [メルヴィル] to notice he's badly wounded from his chest to his
belly. Melville is still breathing, he mutters that he was too impatient and
someday Kinds will understand. He hands him a pendant and wants him to give it
to Maria. Select "Look" [見る] and "Melville" [メルヴィル] again, and Kinds
can't tell if he's alive or dead.
Select "Take" [取る] and "Pendant" [ペンダント]. And then the door will open
and a huge robot appears. It is a Coolie-61, a state-of-the-art amongst armed
security robots. Kinds's psy-gun nor Sue have a chance against this combat
machine. Kinds tells Sue to go wait for him in the car.
You cannot fight it, just retreat toward the boutique and as you're going,
Kinds would gradually be worried about Sue. Select "Move" [いどうする] and go
"West", "West", "West", "West", "South", "West", "West", "North", "North",
"North", "North", and "East".

"Maria" [マリア]. Maria gives you an Air Bus ticket intended for Melville's
getaway. Also she will travel with you as far as the airport. Kinds try to
reassure Maria that maybe Melville is still alive, but she wants him to hurry
before he gets caught...

Kinds and Maria arrived at the airport gate in Maria's car. Since the shopping
district has been cordoned off, there's no turning back now. Maria also hands
Kinds an energy charger she was saving for Melville. That's great, now our
psy-gun can operate at full power! Before you go anywhere, first select "Use"
[使う], then "Charger" [チャージャー] and "Psy-Gun" [サイコガン]. Kinds will
insert the energy charger into the psy-gun and now it's back to its original
strength. If you forgotten to do this, you will surely get a Game Over in the
later screen.
Select "Move" [いどうする] and "South".

The Coolie-61 is back, he must have used a tracking device. It's do or die
time! Coolie-61 has 140 HP, 1 AP, and deals damage with an amazing 8 dice!
Select "Use" [使う], then "Psy-Gun" [サイコガン] and "Coolie-61" [クーリー61].
You should be able to destroy the Coolie-61 in two hits, but make sure that you
used the charger with the psy-gun or you'll surely die here.
When the Coolie-61 is defeated, it'll explode and Maria will tell Kinds to get
on the Air Bus before it departs. Kinds bids her farewell and the Air Bus is
traveling to Paseo, another city on Motavia. In the English version of
Phantasy Star II, the planet Motavia is known as Mota. Kinds realized he can
never return to this squalid town, yet the grievous memories remain. Suddenly,
someone tapped Kinds on the shoulder, it was Sue.

・ DETAILS: It's a tiny energy charger that Melville took from me. If I put
it back in my psy-gun it will regain its original level of
functionality.

・ USAGE : Use it on the psy-gun for it to be at full power.
[COIN (コイン):]
・ DETAILS: This can be used with the slot machines.
・ OBTAIN : Second floor of restaurant, after destroying the bar.
・ USAGE : Give it to Randolph at the casino to obtain the glowstick.
[CORE (基板):]
・ DETAILS: This circuit board is he basis for a psy-gun that I've been
thinking about building for years. I haven't collected all the
parts that I need in order to finish it yet.
・ OBTAIN : My room, in plain sight.
・ USAGE : Use the parts with it to create a full core.
[FULL CORE (完成基板):]
・ DETAILS: This core is complete, but it still needs some data before it can
be used.
・ OBTAIN : Use the parts from the garbage dump with the core from my room.
・ USAGE : Give it to Yuuki in Yuuki's room for him to insert a data to make
it into a gun core.
[GUN CORE (銃の基板):]
・ DETAILS: The only thing left to do is to insert it into the gun frame.
・ OBTAIN : Yuuki's room, after giving him the full core.
・ USAGE : Use it with the gun frame to make the psy-gun.
[GLOWSTICK (レーザースティック):]
・ DETAILS: The laser lightstick, or glowstick, is functionally similar to a
small flashlight, but not as bright.
・ OBTAIN : Casino, give Randolph the coin to get this in return.
・ USAGE : Allows Kinds to have access to the subterranean tunnels.
[GUN FRAME (銃のフレーム):]
・ DETAILS: It's a gun housing intended to be used for building a custom
psy-gun. The correct parts still need to be inserted before it
can become a weapon.
・ OBTAIN : McCoy Co. Talk to McCoy with 200 Meseta in hand.
・ USAGE : Use it with the gun core to make the psy-gun.
[HAMMER (カプセル内):]
・ DETAILS: It's big, yet lightweight because it's made of wood.
・ OBTAIN : Inside warehouse two places east of the capsule interior.
・ USAGE : Allows Sue to break open crates.
[KEY (カギ):]
・ DETAILS: It's the key to unlock the wire binding.

・ DETAILS: Integrated circuits, resistors, et cetera. I can finish the core
of the psy-gun with these.

・ USAGE : Use it on the core to create a full core.

・ DETAILS: This tasteful pendant is a shiny silver color. An image of a
centaur is engraved on it.
・ OBTAIN : End of the passageway, Melville will give it to Kinds.

・ DETAILS: It's a gun designed to destroy robots from within by injecting

in the translated patch supplied by M.I.J.E.T., the toolkit is found in
the alley. I don't know if this was intentional.
[Q: HOW DO I NOT BLOW UP THE BAR?]
・ A: You cannot, Kinds is known for blowing up machines, this is just part of
his charm and how he came to be known as a "wrecker".
[Q: I RAN OUT OF MESETA AND I NEED HEALING!]
・ A: If you have access to the warehouse, use the capsule in the capsule
interior for healing. But if you don't have access to it and you ran
out of Meseta for the diner, just go to the casino and select "Look"
[見る] and "Slot Machine" [スロット] to get 10 Meseta.
[Q: I HEARD THAT THERE WAS A BUG IN THIS GAME?]
・ A: Yes, there is a bug where at the second floor of the warehouse as Sue.
If you went north instead of going east where the Amoeboid is at, the
crates in that room will disappear thus making this game unbeatable
since you cannot get the para-gun. I personally haven't come across it.
