THE KING OF FIGHTERS '98 ENDING FAQ

Greetings!
Welcome to yet another videogame FAQ of mine, now ranked as the fourth I
have done, along with the two story FAQs of SNK's King of Fighters and Capcom's
Street Fighter, along with the ending FAQ of Capcom's Street Fighter Alpha 3.
This FAQ concerns the description of the portraits which appear during the
ending of SNK's The King of Fighters '98. I know a lot of people miss the
detailed endings of the other KOF games, but well, I think there had to be some
sacrifice for all those characters. But well, some portraits are very humorous,
and sometimes sputter out a chuckle. I'll be explaining both the portraits which
appear during the credits, and the final portraits.

IV. Conclusions.

SHINGO YABUKI'S MINI-DIALOGUE
------------------------------------------------------------------
When you reunite certain conditions during an one-player game (several
perfect victories, several straight victories, several Desperation Move
finishes), Shingo Yabuki will appear before you fight one team (this must be
done before facing Rugal). Before you select your order to go against the other
team, the "Here Comes a New Challenger" screen will appear, perhaps without
anybody pressing the other Start button (this has become a trend as of late to
express the appearance of a secret character, eh?)! Then, Shingo Yabuki's
victory portrait will appear, he will do a stupid chant, and then, he will say:
"My name is Shingo Yabuki! It will be a honor to challenge you!"
Then, you can proceed to kick his ass, since he fights alone, making it
very easy to get a straight victory. :)

OMEGA RUGAL'S APPEARANCE AND DEATH
------------------------------------------------------------------
By the time you defeat the sixth team in your normal lineup (which will be
one of the following: the Yagami Team, the Middle-Age Team, or the USA Sports
Team), you will face the Final Battle, pitting the silhouette of a strange man,
who will fight alone. After choosing your order of your fighters, you will be
sent to some unknown place, indicated by a red flag with a black "R" in the
middle in a screen which shows blurring transmission (KOF hardcore fans should
knows what they're going up against by now).
After that, a mini-cinema will begin. The camera will begin by scrolling
down the surface of the water, as some bubbles begin to rush to the surface.
Then, the screen will turn black, and a red cricle will begin glowing. The
camera will scroll down to reveal a strange cauldron shaped by skulls with the
Omega symbol on their foreheads. The screen will begin having blurred
transmission again, revealing the whole shot of the skull cauldron. When the
blurr transmission ends, we return to the first pic of the skull cauldron.
However, this time, the cauldron will fill up with blood, and after another
blurred transmission, the blood will begin spilling out of the cauldron.
Suddenly, the lights seem to turn on, revealing several streamlines. Blood
begins to flow through some streamlines, running to the glowing red circle,
which begins to grow. The screen turns white, and a gloved hand bursts out, with
some cables around it and junk flying everywhere. Then, a black screen appears,
which sort of "opens up" to reveal a menacing figure. There is a close half-side
shot of the figure, beginning by the chest, scrolling up to the face. You can
easily notice that the figure is no other than Rugal. His eye glimmers, and the
screen turns white. Now, you have to fight Omega Rugal, the final boss!
Once you have finished him off (it won't be any problem if you retreat to
the corner and begin jumping up and down to counter his jump-ins or rolls),
another mini-cinema will begin (and the credits will start rolling). First,
there is a shot of Rugal standing dumbfounded as junk begins to fall around him.
The shot begins at Rugal's waist level, and scrolls up to his face. Then, cut to
a shot of Rugal with a lost sight in his eyes, and suddenly, he takes out a
weird control (remember the ending of King of Fighters '94?), he smiles, and
presses a button. The whole screen begins to flash red, and sirens activate.
After that, the screen blurs (sorry, lousy transmission, considering it's being
taked several feet underwater. :), showing a counter at the lower right part of
the screen which begins going down from a minute. Then, cut to a far shot of
Rugal with the control still in his hands, as he goes down an elevator. He
laughs like a maniac as he descends. Then, the screen blurs again, and the
counter reaches zero.
The screen turns white. A rumbling sound is heard, and the camera begins
to scroll back to the surface of the water. The screen turns white again, and
there is a shot of Rugal's air carrier, the Blacknoah, exploding and sinking in
the water (wasn't it already sank?). Then, a helicopter flies above the wreck
(where your team is, no doubt), and the screen freezes. Then, the credit pics
will begin rolling....

CREDIT PORTRAITS
------------------------------------------------------------------
The following portraits will appear as the credits begin rolling after the
Rugal death cinema. These portraits will appear at random, and only three will
appear at a time. Each of the portraits belong to each of the 15 official teams.
* HERO TEAM: Yuki (Kyo's girlfriend) appears at front, sewing Kyo's jacket, as
she looks up to Kyo with a kind look on her face. Kyo is standing next to her,
with his hands in his pockets, but his face is not seen. In the background,
Benimaru and Daimon are going at it. Benimaru kicks Daimon at head level, which
he blocks.
* FATAL FURY TEAM: In a locker room, Andy tries to slap Terry with his palm, but
Terry (with back towards the screen), dodges it by siding his head. Joe is
sitting down in a bench, near the action. He has his champion shirt above his
shoulders, as he gleefully watches the battle.
* ART OF FIGHTING TEAM: In a dojo, a Ryo with a pretty evil face smashes several
piled up blocks with a powerful punch (he even manages to break the dojo floor).
Robert and Yuri have funny-looking worried expressions on their face, tears
running down their cheeks, and Yuri has her hands on her head (perhaps they are
worried at Ryo's attitude, or at his skill? :).
* IKARI TEAM: A close-up of a report done by Ralf Jones, being signed by the
hand of Heidern.
* PSYCHO SOLDIER TEAM: In a cafeteria, Athena is sitting down on a table,
writing a letter. She smiles at Kaori, the ex-invalid fan of the Psycho Soldier
Team which appeared in the Psycho Soldier Team's ending of King of Fighters '97.
Kaori is bringing Athena something to drink (looks like milk...does a body good!
:).
* GORGEOUS TEAM: On the headlines of a newspaper (with the title being "It's a
Woman's World! Chizuru, Mai, and King advance to the finals of the tournament),
there is a picture of Mai, King and Chizuru. Mai seems to be laughing, Chizuru
as a finger on her chin, and King is holding her little brother, Jan, by the
shoulders. Jan is doing the peace sign with his fingers, too.
* KIM TEAM: A kindergarden drawing (done in a sloppy way, with crayons) of Chang
and Choi in a prairie. Perhaps this is the true origin of Chang and Choi? :)
* NEW FACE TEAM: On a stage, Yashiro is practicing with the guitar, having a
guitar stringer in his mouth. He is looking back at Shermie, who is standing at
the side of the stage. Chris is at their side, sitting on a box, daydreaming, it
seems.
* SPECIAL TEAM: Yamazaki, Mary, and Billy lined up in a criminal-recognition
line at prison.
* YAGAMI TEAM: A Riot of Blood Iori is seen through Mature's broken make-up kit
(he did it again!).
* MIDDLE-AGE TEAM: Saishu and Heidern are relaxing in the hot springs, with
towels on their heads. Saishu is laughing, but Takuma isn't. He's out of the
springs, trying to chase a monkey who has his "tengu" (bird) mask and his shirt,
while attempting not to lose his loincloth. Other monkeys are checking out
Saishu's shirt and Heidern's hat.
* USA SPORTS TEAM: Lucky and Brian are taking a walk on the beach. Heavy D!, who
is ahead of them, waits.
* RUGAL TEAM: Rugal's panther sadly overlooks its master's glove.
* SHINGO TEAM: In a locker room, a recently-bathed Shingo is drying his hair
with a towel. His locker is open, and his outfit is hanging on the door. He has
his handbook in his hand, but he is looking at Kyo, who is sleeping on a bench
near him. There is a KOF '98 poster behind them.
* EDIT TEAM: Saishu, Kyo's uncle (who appears in the Playstation game, King of
Fighters: Kyo), and Kyo are practicing a punch. Saishu is at front, and Kyo is
at the back, his uncle in the middle.

ENDING PORTRAITS
------------------------------------------------------------------
After the credits end rolling, a final portrait will appear before the
game returns to the title. This varies for each team.
HERO TEAM (Kyo, Benimaru, Daimon):
Kyo, with his back towards the screen, is looking back at the screen, smiling.
At his right is Benimaru, with two fingers on his forehead. Daimon is at his
left, with his shirt on, back turned towards the screen, and looking at his
side.
FATAL FURY TEAM (Terry, Andy, Joe):
In a ground-view, we can see Andy, Joe, and Terry in a circle. Terry is rising a
trophy in his hands, and Joe celebrates by rising his hand. The sun shines in
the sky.
ART OF FIGHTING TEAM (Ryo, Robert, Yuri):
Mini-versions of Ryo (in the middle), Robert (at his left), and Yuri (at his
right) doing their uppercuts (Kyokugenryo patented move adopted by everybody
except the master, Takuma!).
IKARI TEAM (Leona, Ralf, Clark):
In the Middle East stage, Ralf appears in middle, flexing with his headscarf
tied on his arm. Clark is at his right, with no sunglasses, and no vest as well.
Leona is at the left, with her hair pulled down, and with her typical bored
face.
PSYCHO SOLDIER TEAM (Athena, Kensou, Chin):
Athena appears hugging Kaori in the middle and giving out the peace sign with
her fingers. Chin is at the left serving himself some sake. Kensou is at the
right, apparently trying to cover his eyes while looking at Athena's butt (which
is sticked out in his direction...what a view! :).
GORGEOUS TEAM (Chizuru, Mai, King):
>From a sky view, Chizuru, Mai, and King are lying on the sand of a beach, in a
circle. King is playing with a pigeon who is in the middle of the circle.
KIM TEAM (Kim, Chang, Choi):
Kim, Chang, Choi, and Kim's two sons are delivering a kick towards the screen.
Kim is in the middle, his two sons at his sides, and Choi and Chang are at the
extremes.
NEW FACE TEAM (Yashiro, Shermie, Chris):
Yashiro and Chris are sitting on thrones. Shermie, who is in the middle, is
relaxing on their shoulders. All three are wearing the costume of a Heavenly
King of Orochi, just like Goenitz' (though Shermie looks a lot more sexy! :).
SPECIAL TEAM (Yamazaki, Mary, Billy):
Looks like some sort of comic strip. Yamazaki is at the left, taking somebody by
the shirt and sneering at him. Mary is in the middle blowing a kiss. Billy is at
the right. Each one is saying some nonsense.
YAGAMI TEAM (Iori, Mature, Vice):
>From a ground view, Iori, Mature, and Vice are looking down. They are forming a
circle, as the crescent moon lights up the night's sky. However, all three have
gloomy glimmers in their eyes (looks like the evil version of the Fatal Fury
ending).
MIDDLE-AGE TEAM (Heidern, Takuma, Saishu):
Heidern, Takuma, and Saishu are standing on the edge of a rock at a beach, as
waves crash upon the rock.
USA SPORTS TEAM (Heavy D!, Lucky, Brian):
Lucky, Heavy D!, and Brian are standing against a brick wall. Heavy D!, in the
middle, has his shades on, and Brian is sitting at his right, eating a hamburger
and a soda. The brick wall has some ugly graffitti of them painted on it (they
have ugly noses, to be precise).
RUGAL TEAM (Rugal, Mature, Vice):
Rugal is in the middle, with his suit on, and holding a glass of wine in his
hand. At his left is Mature, and at his right is Vice.
SHINGO TEAM (Shingo, Kyo, Iori):
Shingo is at the front, smiling. Behind him are Kyo and Iori, facing their backs
to each other, each one with flames in their hands.
GOD CALIBUR TEAM (Chizuru, Kyo, Iori):
Iori is at the front, facing the screen. Kyo is behind him, with his back
towards the screen, but looking back at Iori. Chizuru is behind Kyo, as a moon
filled sky appears in the background.
SUPERSTAR TEAM (Kyo, Terry, Ryo):
Kyo, Terry, and Ryo each one appear in the letters of "KOF". Each character has
their game of origin in the background (Kyo is in the "K", with the background
of King of Fighters, Terry is in the "O" with the background of Fatal Fury, and
Ryo is in the "F" with the background of Art of Fighting).
SIDEKICK TEAM (Benimaru, Andy, Robert):
Benimaru and Robert are taking each other by the neck, threatening to beat each
other up. Andy, who is in the background, shrugs his shoulders.
THIRD TEAMMATE TEAM (Daimon, Joe, Yuri):
Joe grabs Yuri's head from the back. Yuri appears without headband, and very
scared. Daimon, who is in front of her, has a headband with the Japanese sun in
it, obviously trying to place it on her head (just like Joe and Daimon :).
NEW IKARI TEAM (Heidern, Leona, Ralf):
Leona appears in the middle, with a dark body suit, a beret, and a gun (looks
like Jill Valentine of Capcom's Resident Evil). Heidern is at her right, armed
with a shotgun. Ralf is at her left, facing his back towards the screen, but
looking back at Leona, with a machine gun.
NEW FEMALE TEAM (Athena, Mai, Yuri):
The three girls appear hugging each other.
FATHERS TEAM (Kim, Saishu, Takuma):
There are three photos, each one picting each fighter training their sons.
Takuma nails Ryo (who appears with a funny face), Kim has some fun with his two
sons, and Saishu spars with a young Kyo (who has no jacket).
HANDSOME TEAM (Chin, Chang, Choi):
Chin appears in the middle, and Chang and Choi at his sides. They all have their
lips in kissing posture. Below them is a heart which says "Cute" (damn sick, if
you ask me! :).
KANSAI TEAM (Robert, Kensou, Choi):
There's a broken mirror atop a table. In the mirror, we can see Robert, Kensou,
and Choi formed in a circle. Each one seems to be crying or shouting or
something....
CAP TEAM (Terry, Clark, Lucky):
Lucky appears in middle, giving a thumbs-up sign. He has Clark's cap and shades.
Clark is at his left, with no shades, and with Terry's cap. Terry is at his
right, with Lucky's cap (turned around, of course), with paintmarks on his
cheeks, and with a basketball in his hands.
BASEBALL TEAM (Ralf, Mary, Lucky):
At home plate, Mary executes a Straight Slicer at catcher Ralf, and is about to
snap his leg (Ralf doesn't seem too happy about it)! Batter Lucky, who is
overlooking the action with a similiar "Dodgers" uniform, has a bat tapping on
his shoulders.
SAKAZAKI TEAM (Takuma, Ryo, Yuri):
In a little cabin, Takuma is rolling some dough on a table, with his "tengu"
mask above his head. Ryo and Yuri are behind him, turning their back to Takuma,
but looking back at him. They don't seem to have too happy faces (maybe his
cooking is lousy :).
APRIL 8TH BIRTHDAY TEAM (Shingo, Mature, King):
Behind all three is a sign of "Happy Birthday Gifts". Mature, at the left, shows
something like a present box. King, at the right, shows off a wine glass.
However, Shingo, who is in the middle, sadly presumes his milk box.
TEEN TEAM (Shingo, Kensou, Chris):
Kensou is at the left, eating mindlessly his meat bun. Chris is hugging Shingo
from behind at the right. All three have cute expressions on their faces.
OROCHINAGI TEAM (Kyo, Saishu, Chris):
Kyo and Saishu are powering up their Orochinagis. Kyo is at the left, rising his
hand in flames, and Saishu is at the left, charging flames in between his hands.
Both have tired expressions on their faces. Chris, who is in the middle, looks
back at them, while powering up his own Orochinagi with his finger. He has a
sweat drop on his head (symbol of "duh!").
KUSANAGI TEAM (Kyo, Shingo, Saishu):
Kyo and Saishu are performing flaming punches, Kyo at the left, Saishu at the
right. Both have confident faces. Meanwhile, Shingo, who is in the middle and in
the background, performs a punch as well, but is dumbfounded that he can't wield
flames!
BURNING SHINGO TEAM (Shingo, Benimaru, Daimon):
A two-part drawing. At the left part, Shingo is performing a punch with a ribbon
tied to his arm. Behind him, Benimaru notices the ribbon (there's an arrow
pointing at it), while Daimon remains with his arms crossed. At the right part,
Benimaru ties the ribbon to a gas tank, which blows Shingo up! Daimon just gives
a big "NOD!" Burning Shingo indeed! :)
RAPID BUTTON PRESS TEAM (Billy, Joe, Chang):
Joe appears punching in the middle, Billy is wielding his stick at the left, and
Chang tosses around his ball at the right. All three seem to put a lot of effort
into it, since they are all sweating.
DAMAGE TEAM (Ralf, Brian, Chang):
A three part drawing. At the left part, Ralf punches through a rock, indicating
that the damage inflicted was 1000 megatons. At the middle part, Brian rams
through the rock, also indicating a damage of 1000 megatons. At the right part,
Kim kicks Chang away, indicating a damage of 1000 megatons! :)
OROCHI MALES TEAM (Yamazaki, Yashiro, Chris):
Yashiro and Yamazaki appear in front. Yashiro is smiling at the screen, Yamazaki
has his back towards the screen, but looking back at it. He has a sneer on his
face, and his coat is put on. Chris is behind them, apparently praying. In the
sky, we can see two eyes, with snake-like pupils, sign of Orochi-race eyes
(maybe it's Orochi himself?).
OROCHI FEMALES TEAM (Shermie, Mature, Vice):
The three women are at the beach, under a parasol, and atop a beach towel.
Mature is sitting at the right, and Vice is lying on the ground at the right,
each one with bathing suits. Shermie is in the middle, with her back towards the
screen, but looking back at it. She has a bathing suit, too, but she has NO TOP
(WOO!)!. Her back has the Orochi mark tattoo.
EDIT TEAM (Any character match-up that doesn't match the previous teams):
All the characters appear in a mega-photo. The sign of King of Fighters appears
behind them, and below them a "Thank you for playing" sign. Very SF-like if you
ask me....

CONCLUSIONS
------------------------------------------------------------------ Well, I
guess that's it for now. Yeah, yeah, maybe there are already dozens of pictures
on the Net already. But, hey, if you don't have the time to download them, you
can gladly read this FAQ and be well informed! Stay tuned for next time!
