<Beforehand Words>
Back in March 2006, Famitsu announced that they will hand out 10000 copies of
Xenosaga Episode III demo in Late April, 2006. As for the catch, they will need
you to sign up for a copy either from their site or a sheet within March~April
issue of Famitsu. Technically, everyone had a chance to get it & quite frankly,
there are plenty copies left. If you didn't sign up and wish to get a copy, try
Yahoo Japan or the sort, you can probably find one easily. Regardless that the
demo were released to the selected public in limited amount, 10000 copies is
more than enough to cover the remaining Xenosaga fans, ones that still want to
try out and eager to play the final episode of the series.

<Actual Demo>
At the Title Menu, if you want to watch the background scene, press Square to
hide the menu and logo. Once you are ready, press Start or Circle. You will be
at the Configuration:
~ Audio Output: Stereo/Monoraul
~ Subtitle Display: On/Off
~ Vibration: On/Off
~ Monitor Adjust
Press X once you are done then confirm it with Circle. After few scene, you'll
gain control of Shion within Vector S-Division. D-Pad is to walk around and the
Left Stick is to run around. If you hold down L2 then Left Stick is for walking
as well. As for Start, it is to pause the game. Now, press Triangle to bring up
the In-Game Menu:
~ Left side shows the options you have
- Item, Ether, Styleline, Equip, Status, Party, Database and Option
~ Right side shows the Attackers/Reservers' Level, HP and EP
- Characters in the demo are: Shion, Miyuki, Canaan, KOS MOS, Jin and MOMO
- If you press Square, you can see the SP and Next Level Exp
~ Lower left shows the Money and Play Time
~ Press L2 or R2 switches to a screen that got the Summary Up To Now and the
Present Goal
Let's check out the various options we have:
~ Item, shows the List Of Items you have, the Quantities and Details
- Press Square will show you the Special Items, about 56 of them, marked with
Question Marks until discovered
~ Ether, shows a character's List of Ether and needed EP
- Miyuki and MOMO have Medica S(4 EP)
~ Styleline, not available in the demo
~ Equip, shows Character Equip, ES Equip, View All Equip, View Newly Gains
- ES Equip is not available in the demo
- You can not use Character Equip with Miyuki and Canaan since they are Extra
Characters
- Each character can equip Weapon, Armor, Necklace, Bracelet and Ring
- Press Square on the Necklace/Bracelet/Ring to see the Extension Effect
- Shion has White Silver and Pearlware
- White Silver, Str=9, Eatk=8
- Pearlware, Vit=2, Edef=2
- Miyuki has MWS Style 76 and Pearlware
- MWS Style 76, Str=9, Eatk=9
- Pearlware, Vit=2, Edef=2
- Canaan has Night Walker and Combat Suit
- Night Walker, Str=11, Eatk=8
- Combat Suit, Vit=3, Edef=3
- KOS MOS has KWP-PI and KAP-AZA
- KWP-PI, Str=16, Eatk=8
- KAP-AZA, Vit=4, Edef=4
- Jin has Kaitosaku Hagan and Suihou Clothes
- Kaitosaku Hagan, Str=15, Eatk=9
- Suihou Clothes, Vit=3, Edef=2
- MOMO has Compound VI and Cazic Shirt
- Compound VI, Str=9, Eatk=15
- Cazic Shirt, Vit=3, Edef=3
~ Status, shows the stats of a Character or ES
- Status with ES is not available in the demo
- A Character has a stat called Break Limit
- The higher the number the harder to get to Break state in battle
- Status with a Character, go right/left to view Equip, Ether, Arts, Ability
and Special Attack
- KOS MOS has Heat(Ether) and G Shot(Special Attack)
- Jin has Renbu Kyokusen(Special Attack)
- MOMO has Medica S(Ether), Analyze(Ether) and Freeze Shock(Special Attack)
- Shion has Beam Bolt I(Ether), Analyze(Ether) & Break Bash(Special Attack)
- Miyuki has Medica S(Ether)
- Canaan has none
~ Party, you can move and set Character to the Attackers or Reservers group
- You can also set 1 of the 3 Attackers to be the Leader(On Screen) with the
Square button
- Miyuki or Canaan CAN NOT be a Leader since they are Extra Characters
- While on the field, you can also toggle the Leader with the Select button
~ Database, Classified By Category or Syllabary Order
~ Option, similar configuration from the start:
- Audio Output: Stereo/Monoraul
- Subtitle Display: On/Off
- Vibration: On/Off
- Memory On Cursor Position: On/Off
- Monitor Adjust
- Default
Well then, let's get on with the demo. Go on & destroy the object with Square.
After, Square the object at each side to open the gate.
Next area, multiple targets and you can switch with L1 or R1. For the puzzle
with the Key Plates, destroy the middle one, then the upper one and the lower
one at the end. Go on and destroy objects to get 500 Gold. Check the door with
Circle to go through and a Segment Door #8. Go on and you can go north and the
east. Take the east and destroy objects to get an Analyze Ball. Go on and more
objects to be destroyed for Nano Repair M, 100 Gold and 300 Gold. You will be
back at the intersection. Go north.
Now, go up and pay attention to the floor. It changes to one color to another.
Remember the order of the appearances of the colors. Go up and the objects will
be moving. Destroy the colored object in the same order. If you got the wrong
order, use the near panel to reset. Go on and take the warp.
At the 2nd Sector, go on to the left to get an Aquajist S. Go north for the 1st
enemy. Let's check out the Battle System:
~ Top left is the Action Order, with the Characters and Enemies' Icons one
after another. Most left Character/Enemy will act first
- Enemies are divided into Bio, Machine and Gnosis categories
~ Lower left got the Commands: Attack, Arts, Ether, Deathblow/Special
Attack, Item, Alert, Change and Escape
~ Lower right got the Attackers/Active Party's HP and EP
- Under the Character's Name is the Break Limit
- If the Break Limit is full, then the character will enter Break state
- Break state immobilize the Character for few turns and higher chance
of being criticaled by enemy
- Enemies also have Break Limits
- Press L1 or L2 to see any Status Changes
~ Top right got the Boost Gauge/Number for the Player and Enemy
- Press R1 or R2 with Square, Triangle or Circle to Boost if you have at
least 1/3 Boost
- Deathblow/Special Attack also requires a certain amount of Boost
- Deathblow levels up after you used them for certain amount of times &
that means more damage
- Finish an enemy off with Deathblow is called a Finish Strike
- You get 1.5 times more Exp, Skill Point and Gold
- BTW, the Boost Count and Amount also get to be passed to the next fight
Anyway, take out the 2 VMP Zex. After, go on and to the east then south for an
object with Aquajist M. Go north & destroy objects to get the Muscle Relaxant.
Back track and go north for the 2nd enemy/VMP Zex. After, go on to the west and
south to get a Nano Repair M and 300 Gold. Back track and go on for the third
enemy. It's a Back Attack since you touched the enemy from the back. Enemies'
turns will be 1 turn slower and higher critical rate for you. Finish them off.
Shion learns Spell Blade I at Level 5 and MOMO learns Ice Bolt I at Level 5 as
well. Go on and finish off the next enemy. KOS MOS learns G Buster at Level 6,
Jin learns Corpse Slash at Level 6 and Canaan learns Heat at Level 6. Go on and
take the warp at the end.
Now at the 3rd Sector, go on and press the switch. Go south to destroy that
object on the way for an enemy. Press the switch at the end. Back track and go
up to the north to get the Update File 01 for the Database. Go around to the
other side for more enemy/VMP Zex&Elf. MOMO learns Thunder Bolt I at Level 6.
Go on to the east for 100 Gold and an enemy. Shion learns Break Care S at Level
6 and Miyuki learns Lightning Blow at Level 6.
Now, head to the SW all the way. Go on and the west leads to an Antidote. Keep
going to the east and follow the path. Press the switch at the end. There are
2 new paths, at NE and S. Go back all the way to the south one and more enemy
on the way. Jin learns Armor Piercer at Level 7. After, get the Zetajist M and
press the switch at the end. Go on to NE and get the Aquajist S on the way. Do
take the warp at the end.
Go on and get 10 Traps on the way. Get close to the enemy and the game will set
a Trap and set it off. Traps lead to Preemptive Strikes. The Boost Count should
be 1, 2 or 3/3. Anyway, use R2 and Square to place a Trap then set it off with
Square again. Go on for more enemies. MOMO learns Medica S All at Level 7 and
Canaan learns Jackal at Level 7. As for Shion, she learns Break Blow I at Level
7. KOS MOS learns A Burst I at Level 8 and Jin learns Souryuuzan I at Level 8.
MOMO can also learn Blizzard I at Level 8. There is an item behind an enemy, it
is a Rosejist S. Go north and destroy the object to take the warp.
Now, go take the left and right warp to disarm the Secondary Security. After,
go north and disarm the Primary Security. Next, go south and log into the Main
Server. That will take you to the 5th Sector, the Main Server Room. Go hit the
switch at the panel. More scene and you will get into the boss fight of this
demo.

Affinity: Strong Against Ice and Block Poison
I am using KOS MOS, Jin and MOMO. KOS MOS can attack with G Buster and whatever
you wish for Jin. Jin's attacks is mainly for building up the Boost Gauge. For
that MOMO, she can heal and use Thunder Bolt I. If you got enough Boost Gauge,
use Deathblow from Jin or KOS MOS. Anyone low on HPs, use Items or MOMO to heal
the character or the whole party. Overall, pretty easy fight.
After, more scene and that ends the demo. If you like what you see, besure to
buy the game on July 6, 2006.
