This would be FAQ number 3 for me I believe. I'm just a-cranking 'em out, I
know. Anyways, this FAQ gives you information about Nightcrawler and gives
suggestions about how to use him. I will assume you know the basics of the
game, so if you don't then head on over to one of the general FAQs. Please note
that when I am talking about Nightcrawler I will refer to his mutant powers by
their first level unless mentioning differences between different levels.
And I'm by no means a master of this game (at least not at the time of writing
this FAQ) so if you see something in here that is incorrect or you don't agree
with then email me or contact me at the PS2 X-Men Legends board at GameFAQs.

fine. There are just a few rules to follow when emailing me:

1. Be sure to put something about the Nightcrawler FAQ in the subject so I
don't delete it. Put something like "I have a question" and I will delete

                      2. Say Hello to Nightcrawler
                   *================================*

Nightcrawler is a popular character from the X-Men universe, whose mutant
ability is teleportation. He just so happens to be one of the most useful
characters in the game as well, with powerful abilities good for taking down
large enemies. Nightcrawler has the appearance of a devil, what with the pointy
tail and blue skin, but he is actually quite kind-hearted and nice.

You get Nightcrawler after completing the second mission in the game and as you
level him up he will quickly become a useful part of your team.

#--------#
 2.1 Bio
#--------#

This is Nightcrawler's bio taken from the game, I was too lazy to type my own.

Nightcrawler
Real Name: Kurt Wagner

Though he looks like a demon from hell, the soft-spoken Nightcrawler is
devoutly religious. He grew up as a member of a travelling circus where he was
safe because his thousands of admirers assumed his devilish looks were merely a
costume. But once it was discovered that he truly was a mutant with a tail and
pointed ears, the villagers of a town attempted to kill him. Had Professor
Xavier not intervened, Kurt most surely would have died.

Although gifted with amazing agility that was honed by years with the circus,
Nightcrawler's primary mutant talent is the ability to teleport; vanishing from
one spot and reapearring in another. The only drawback is that he must see the
area he is teleporting to, otherwise he could materialize in a solid object.

#---------------------------#
 2.2 Playing as Nightcrawler
#---------------------------#

Unfortunately Nightcrawler starts off rather weak. Teleport Flurry doesn't get
good until quite a few points have been put into it and until that happens
Nightcrawler doesn't have any really damaging attacks. His other offensive
ability, Teleport Leap, is mostly good for transportation but the actual damage
it does is about the same as a normal attack. Early on Teleport Leap can be
used to jump ahead and stall ranged attackers so that melee fighters can get in
close and slaughter them.

After he starts to gain some levels Nightcrawler can begin to distract groups
of enemies while damaging them all using higher levels of Teleport Flurry. He
can also be a big help taking down Sentinels and other strong enemies since
Teleport Flurry will target all of its attacks on them.

His Blindside Blitz is effective much in the same way as Teleport Flurry except
it is much stronger since it is an Xtreme ability. If only one enemy is on
screen, Nightcrawler can use Blindside Blitz and hit that enemy with ALL of the
attacks. When facing bosses this means lots of ass kicking is about to happen
and you can take a huge chunk of their life off with just one use.

At just regular fighting Nightcrawler isn't too great. His attacks come out
fast but he doesn't do a whole lot of damage. And outside of Critical Strike he
doesn't really have any other abilities that upgrade his hand to hand combat.
He does however have a couple interesting things about him. His downward smash
(jump and press circle) is different then most characters, he drops rapidly
down at an angle until he hits something. If he hits the enemy he kicks off of
them, knocking them down if they are weaker enemies and flipping backwards to
land a short distance away. I find this more useful then the regular downward
smash, which is a pain to make it connect to the enemy.

He is speedy too. After you have put a point into Acrobatics he can double jump
jump, he can kick off of some walls, (press square while facing a wall), and he
can wall-jump (jump into a wall and press jump).

Nightcrawler works best being controlled by the computer set at aggressive
behavior. Controlling him yourself doesn't work too great because teleporting
can be disorienting and difficult to aim (and apparently it is impossible to
aim Teleport Flurry). He also has a useful skill that only works when the
computer is controlling him.

#----------------------------#
 2.3 Strengths and Weaknesses
#----------------------------#

Strengths

- Teleporting is a great means of transportation and allows Nightcrawler to go
through those blue energy walls, which saves time.
- Good at distracting enemies and letting your partners move in for the kill.
- After being levelled up Teleport Flurry becomes really powerful against
 groups of enemies and bosses.
- One of the better Xtreme moves in the game.
- Leap of Faith can save your ass.
- Teleport Flurry combos easy.

Weaknesses

- Starts out rather weak, with little offensive power early on.
- Teleporting is hard/impossible to control, best left to the computer.
- Leap of Faith doesn't work if you are controlling Nightcrawler. Why? Nobody
 knows.
- All of his attacks are physical based, so physically resistant enemies will
be hard for him to take down.

 2.5 Frequently Asked Questions
#------------------------------#

Q: Where can I find _____?
A: Use the find function. If you can't find it here then I probably didn't want
to include it and you should check one of the other FAQs.

Q: Will increasing Nightcrawler's strike make his teleport attacks do more
  damage?
A: Sadly no. I put fourty-some points into his strike to test this and both
Teleport Leap and Teleport Flurry still did next to no damage with one point
  in each of them.

Q: Will Critical Strike increase his chance of doing a critical hit with a
  teleport attack?
A: Yes it will.

Q: Any glitches for Nightcrawler?
A: Yes, actually there are a couple. If you have a point in Acrobatics and are
in that small Morlock village where Healer is and go to one of the doors
(one of the ones that doesn't actually go anywhere and is just there for
show) and then push square Nightcrawler will sometimes kick off of it. As he
does this he will freeze in midair, stuck in the kicking off position. Kind
of humorous actually. Nightcrawler's tail also seems to be missing if you
look at the model of him in his bio.

Q: How do I access Nightcrawler's different costumes?
A: Beat the game and then start a new game. After you have recruited
Nightcrawler go to an Xtraction point and in the change team option you can
press square to change his costume. He has two different costumes, one is
his Xtreme costume and the other is his 90's costume if I'm not mistaken.

                       *===============================*
                          3. Nightcrawler's Abilities
                       *===============================*

#-----------------------------------------------#
 3.1 Teleport Leap/Teleport Strike/Legend Strike
#-----------------------------------------------#

Nightcrawler's basic ability, you start with a point in this. If you teleport
near an enemy you will attack him although the damage is low. Levelling it up
increases damage, range of teleportation and you will eventually unlock the
ability to teleport allies. Teleport can be used to cross gaps and you can also
teleport people you are protecting, not just your three partners.

I honestly don't think you should level this past the first level. Maxed out at
the first level you have what you need, you can teleport about a screens length
and you can teleport partners. Levelling it up more is useless as you will be
teleporting to areas you can't even see. Hell, at higher levels if you teleport
the max distance you will actually become split away from your team and will
have to run back to rejoin with them. What is the point in that?

 Teleport Leap
1: 4-5 damage. 15 feet. 10 energy.
2: 6-8 damage. 18 feet. 15 energy. Lvl 3.
3: 9-11 damage. 22 feet. 20 energy. Lvl 5.
4: 12-15 damage. 26 feet. 25 energy. Unlocks ability to teleport allies. Lvl 7.
5: 15-18 damage. 30 feet. 30 energy. Lvl 9.

 Teleport Strike
1: 20-25 damage. 34 feet. 40 energy. Requires two points. Lvl 15.
2: 25-31 damage. 38 feet. 45 energy. Lvl 17.
3: 50-63 damage. 42 feet. 50 energy. Lvl 19.
4: 80-100 damage. 45 feet. 55 energy. Lvl 21.
5: 100-125 damage. 48 feet. 60 energy. Lvl 23.

 Legend Strike
1: 150-165 damage. 50 feet. 70 energy. Requires two points. Lvl 30.

#-------------------------------------------------#
 3.2 Teleport Flurry/Teleport Frenzy/Legend Frenzy
#-------------------------------------------------#

This is Nightcrawler's best ability. It may look weak at first but don't let
that discourage you. Once you hit the second level with it you will start to
see how effective it is and when maxed out it will be cranking out around 900
damage with each use. And if there is only one enemy nearby all of that damage
will be done to him.

In addition to the energy costs listed below, each attack he does during a
Teleport Flurry/Frenzy costs 5 energy. And the damage listed is the amount of
damage done per attack.

 Teleport Flurry
1: 4-5 damage. 14 feet. 2 attacks. 40 energy. Requires two points. Lvl 5.
2: 9-11 damage. 16 feet. 2 attacks. 50 energy. Lvl 7.
3: 15-18 damage. 18 feet. 3 attacks. 60 energy. Lvl 9.
4: 25-31 damage. 20 feet. 3 attacks. 70 energy. Lvl 11.
5: 50-63 damage. 22 feet. 4 attacks. 80 energy. Lvl 13.

 Teleport Frenzy
1: 50-63 damage. 24 feet. 5 attacks. 90 energy. Requires two points. Lvl 20.
2: 65-80 damage. 26 feet. 5 attacks. 100 energy. Lvl 22.
3: 80-100 damage. 28 feet. 6 attacks. 110 energy. Lvl 24.
4: 90-110 damage. 30 feet. 6 attacks. 120 energy. Lvl 26.
5: 100-125 damage. 30 feet. 7 attacks. 130 energy. Lvl 28.

 Legend Frenzy
1: 110-135 damage. 30 feet. 8 attacks. 140 energy. Requires two points. Lvl 30.

#-------------------------------------------#
 3.3 Shadow Blend/Shadow Arts/Shadow Mastery
#-------------------------------------------#

This is Nightcrawler's buff. Early on it isn't that great but when maxed out it
grants him near invincibility. If you want the ultimate tank... well here you
go. I don't use this myself, I'd rather invest my points into teleport flurry
to up its damage and leave shields to one of the characters who can shield the
entire team. Jean's -50 damage shield at the end of the game is quite enough,
-80 damage and then an agility increase is just overkill.

 Shadow Blend
1: 15 seconds. -5 damage. +2 Agility. 60 energy. Requires two points. Lvl 5.
2: 16 seconds. -8 damage. +3 Agility. 70 energy. Lvl 7.
3: 17 seconds. -10 damage. +4 Agility. 80 energy. Lvl 9.

 Shadow Arts
1: 20 seconds. -13 damage. +6 Agility. 100 energy. Requires two points. Lvl 14.
2: 22 seconds. -16 damage. +7 Agility. 110 energy. Lvl 16.
3: 24 seconds. -20 damage. +8 Agility. 120 energy. Lvl 18.

Shadow Mastery
1: 28 seconds. -30 damage. +10 Agility. 140 energy. Requires two points. Lvl 23
2: 32 seconds. -50 damage. +11 Agility. 150 energy. Lvl 25.
3: 36 seconds. -80 damage. +12 Agility. 160 energy. Lvl 27.

#-------------------#
 3.4 Blindside Blitz
#-------------------#

You can learn this at level 15. Instead of using energy you have to collect
Xtreme tokens (which generally will be littering the floor unless you have full
Xtreme tokens). Blindside Blitz has a set number of attacks and when you use it
Nightcrawler will quickly teleport around and hit any enemies onscreen with the
attacks. The great thing is that if there is only one enemy on the screen, like
a boss, Nightcrawler will focus all of the attacks on them doing BIG damage!

 Blindside Blitz
1: Unlocks Blindside Blitz. Requires two points. Lvl 15.

#-----------------#
 3.5 Leap of Faith
#-----------------#

This is a great ability if you are having trouble staying alive. If you have
this enabled with Nightcrawler on your team (and controlled by a computer) then
if an enemy is about to score the killing blow on a teammate Nightcrawler jump
in and teleport them out of harm's way. There are a couple things to note
though. Nightcrawler can't save people more than once per minute, so you aren't
totally invincible. And he can't save you if you fall off of a cliff, he will
just watch you fall to your death and laugh at your stupidity.

Put points into this if the computer normally controls Nightcrawler on your
team. 3 points in it should be enough for early on. Cablepuff mentioned to me
though that if you already have a super powerful team this doesn't have much
use and you can instead put points into other things like his buff. I
personally like having it around just for insurance but you can definitely do
without it.

 Leap of Faith
1: 25% chance. 10 feet. Lvl 3.
2: 50% chance. 15 feet. Lvl 8.
3: 75% chance. 30 feet. Lvl 13.
4: 80% chance. 45 feet. Lvl 18.
5: 100% chance. 60 feet. Lvl 23.

#----------------#
 3.6 Sucker Punch
#----------------#

This raises the chance at doing critical damage with teleport attacks. If you
are doing 8 hit Legend Frenzys there is an obvious advantage for putting points
in this. I put the casual point into this when I don't have anything else to
raise.

 Sucker Punch
1: +3% critical. Lvl 4.
2: +6% critical. Lvl 9.
3: +9% critical. Lvl 14.
4: +12% critical. Lvl 19.
5: +15% critical. Lvl 24.

#-------------#
 3.7 Toughness
#-------------#

Toughness will raise your max health when you put points in it. Early on when
your health is low the increase won't be worth it (since it increases health by
a percent) but in higher levels putting some points in Toughness makes up for
any points you didn't put into body.

 Toughness
1: +10% health. Lvl 10.
2: +15% health. Lvl 12.
3: +20% health. Lvl 14.

#------------------#
 3.8 Mutant Mastery
#------------------#

Same thing as Toughness except it raises your max energy. This is probably more
useful of the two for Nightcrawler since he uses a lot of energy with Teleport
Flurrys. Put points in it when your energy gets high enough for the increase to
be significant.

 Mutant Mastery
1: +10% energy. Lvl 10.
2: +15% energy. Lvl 12.
3: +20% health. Lvl 14.

#--------------#
 3.9 Acrobatics
#--------------#

You HAVE to put at least one point into this. With just one point you can
unlock several abilities. None of them are extremely useful but it is only one
point... Besides the one point, you probably won't want to put more points for
a while as it will only raise your agility. If you have a spare point laying
around and nowhere to put it though then put it here.

 Acrobatics
1: +2 Agility. Unlocks Double Jump and other moves.
2: +4 Agility.
3: +6 Agility.
4: +8 Agility.
5: +10 Agility.

#--------------------#
 3.10 Critical Strike
#--------------------#

This is the generic ability that everybody has, even ranged attackers. For
Nightcrawler it has its uses, it seems to raise your critical chance with
teleports as well as normal attacks. If that is true if you max this and Sucker
Punch out your teleport attacks will have more than a 25% chance at doing
critical damage!

 Critical Strike
1: +2% critical.
2: +4% critical. Lvl 7.
3: +6% critical. Lvl 12.
4: +8% critical. Lvl 17.
5: +10% critical. Lvl 22.

                        *==========================*
                           4. Stats and Equipment
                        *==========================*

#---------#
 4.1 Stats
#---------#

Nightcrawler is meant to be in the thick of the action dodging blows while
pounding on the enemies. An obvious first choice is to raise his Agility.
Besides that some points in Focus is helpful for handling the big energy cost
of Teleport Flurry. 1 or 2 points in Strike isn't a bad idea either, but you
don't really need points in that since Nightcrawler should be using most of his
time teleporting, whose damage isn't effected by Strike.

So about 2/3 of your stat points should go in Agility (unless you are planning
on using Shadow Blend to protect you, in which case put some of those points in
Strike and Focus) and then most of the rest in Focus with a couple points in
Strike and Body.

#-------------#
 4.2 Equipment
#-------------#

DNA Generators are good choices as they allow you to use more Teleport Flurrys.
If you want to do all out big damage though equip your most powerful Power
Enhancer as your backpack, or use Nightcrawler's special item acquired by
beating his challenge in the Danger Room.

As for belts just keep him updated on the most powerful Agility or Focus
Enhancer, your choice. And I always use Nanofiber Armor as the other armor
types seem unimpressive to me.

                        *==========================*
                           5. Level Up Guidelines
                        *==========================*

If you just want to be lazy and follow a straight guideline on a good level-up
progression, here you go. The stat/abiliy choices are shown for every 15 levels.

#----------------------------#
 5.1 Teleporting Nightcrawler
#----------------------------#

This is the Nightcrawler that will be using teleport to do most of his damage
for him. Early on he has to use his fists for a while but as you gain levels
you can start to power Teleport Flurry up and begin kicking ass with that.

 5.2 Melee Nightcrawler
#----------------------#

I don't really like levelling up this way myself. This method has Nightcrawler
using Shadow Blend a lot of the time to give him some great defense, which lets
you put more points into Strike and make him somewhat effective in hand to hand
combat (not really though, but with Shadow Blend he is near invincible so it
doesn't really matter).

#-----------------------------------#
 6.1 Nightcrawler's Danger Room Disc
#-----------------------------------#

When you go to the Weapon's X Facility as Cyclops you can find this. It is
found after you have fought Havok, in the C Block Ruins.

As for beating the disc, that is easy. You have unlimited energy so just spam
Teleport Flurrys or activate Shadow Blend if you have it. Same goes with the
Nightmare - Cyclops Danger Room disc, except I don't think you have unlimited
energy in that one.

#-----------------------------#
 6.2 Nightcrawler's Comic Book
#-----------------------------#

You can find Nightcrawler's comic book in the Sentinel Flashback which can be
accessed the first time you meet Nightcrawler. You MUST have at least one point
in Jean's fly or else you can't get it. The comic book is in the last area (the
place where it seems about a hundred or so sentinels drop in on you all at
once) on top of one of the roofs of the buildings. Fly up to the buildings with
Jean and then just poke around up there until you find it.

I have heard though that in the Xbox version there is no comic book for
Nightcrawler. Emailer Chris Ansell confirmed this to be true so sorry to all of
you Xboxers out there.
