Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution, the latest installation on PS2 of the infamous
Virtua Fighter series by Sega, is one of the greatest 3D fighting game.
This FAQ will list all the exercise in Training -> Trial -> Tutorial. The
tutorial in this game is by far the BEST I have ever seen in any fighting
game; the tutorial covers most, if not all, of the thing a player should
know in orderto perform well with this game.

follow by Trial, the Tutorial.
01. Using Striking Attacks
==========================
A. Breaking through a defense
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Hit your guarding opponent with stiking attacks!
Your opponent will switch between high guard and low guard. Use mid and
low attacks to break through your opponent's defense 5 times.
B. Getting a counter
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Time your attack to hit your opponent for a counter!
After the countdown, your opponent will perform a striking attack.
Counter it with your own striking attack 5 times.
02. Using throws
================
A. Perform a high throw
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Perform a high throw!
Wait for your opponent to stand still or guard, and perform a high
throw 5 times.
B. Perform a low throw
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Block your opponent's attack, and counter with a low throw!
Pai will attack with [d,K+G]. Block her low attack, then counter with
a low throw 3 time(s) to complete the exercise.
03. Using guard
===============
A. Guarding against attacks

Exercise: Block your opponent's attacks!
Your opponent will attack you with a high attack, low attack, and a mid
attack, 5 times in that order. Block all of your opponent's attacks.
B. Guarding against a series of attacks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Block a series of attacks!
Your opponent will attack you 3 times with the [P,P,f,P,P,d,K] series.
Block all of your opponent's attacks.
04. Recovering from a fall
==========================
A. Recovering from a fall

Exercise: Recover to avoid falling down!
Your opponent will try to knock you down with a striking attack. Let
the attack hit, then recover from the fall 3 times.
B. Using exact recovery
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Use exact recovery to decrease the damage you take!
Your opponent will try to throw you with [HCF,P+G]. Let him throw you,
and use exact recovery the moment you hit the ground 3 times.
C. Recovering from a beatdown attack (5th Dan or above)

Exercise: Recover from a beatdown attack!
Your opponent will attack you with a floater move. After you let it
hit, your opponent will slam you into the ground. Recover from the
beatdown 3 times.
05. Recovering from an attack
=============================
A. Recover from a stagger (striking attack)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Recover from a stagger, and block the follow-up attack!
After you are staggered by your opponent's attack, press the
directional buttons and other buttons quickly to recover, and block
the next attack with high guard.
The exercise will be complete after 3 successful attempts.
B. Recover from a stagger (throw)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Recover from a stagger, and block the follow-up attack!
Lau will throw you with [b,d,P+G], then follow up with [b,f,P].
After letting him throw you with [b,d,P+G], use stagger recovery,
and block the [b,f,P], or stop it with an attack of your own, such
as [d,P].
The exercise will be complete after 3 successful attempts.
C. Avoiding down attacks

Exercise: After getting knocked down, avoid your opponent's down
attack!
Your opponent will attack you with a forced knockdown attack. Get
knocked down, then get up quickly 3 times to avoid your opponent's
down attack.
06. Attacking a staggered opponent

Stagger your opponent 5 times to complete the exercise.

Exercise: Start with a floater move, and create your own midair combos!
Create your own midair combos within the time limit. There are no
guidelines--experiment, and try different combinations!
08. The basics of evading
=========================
A. Evading
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Try evading!
Enter d or u and let go of the directional button quickly to evade.
Perform the evade motion 3 times.
B. Evading your opponent's attacks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Evade your opponent's attacks!
After the countdown, your opponent will perform a striking attack.
Enter the evade command ([u]/[d]) at the right time to evade the
attack 3 times.
C. Evading and counterattacking
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Evade your opponent's attack, and strike back with an evade
attack.
After the countdown, your opponent will performa striking attack. Evade
the attack with [u]/[d], then enter [P+K+G] to hit them with an evade
attack.
Land an evade attack 3 times to complete the exercise.
D. Evading a half spinning attack
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Evade a half spinning attack 5 times!
After the countdown, your opponent will attack with [db,P]. He will
also switch foot position from time to time. Watch his foot position
to decide which way to evade, and evade his [db,P] attack 5 times
within the time limit.
09. Using evade
===============
A. Evading a counterattack
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Evade your opponent's counterattack!
After your opponent blocks a striking attack (such as [df,K]), they
will counterattack. Enter [d] or [u] with the right timing to avoid
the attack.
Evade successfully 3 times to complete the exercise.
B. Attacking after evading
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Evade your opponent's counterattack, then counterattack!
Perform a striking attack, such as [d,P] or [df,P], and your opponent
will block and counterattack. Evade the counterattack with [d] or [u],
then land your own counterattack.
C. Evading in the middle of a series
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Use evade to avoid the 3rd attack in the series!
After the countdown, your opponent will attack with (from Defensive)
[f,P,P,K]. Guard high to block the first 2 punches, the evade the last
kick.
Evade successfully 3 times to complete the exercise.
10. Dealing with evades
=======================
A. The drawback to evading

Exercise: Stop your opponent from evading!
Your opponent will attack with [f,f,P], then evade. Stop the evade with
an attack with a set spin direction or a throw. Land 3 attacks to
complete the exercise.
B. Attacking after a failed evade
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Land a linear attack during your opponent's failed evade!
Your opponent will attack with [f,f,P], then evade. Pause before
counterattacking to cause a failed evade, then hit them with a linear
attack.
Land 3 attacks to complete the exercise.
11. When to throw
=================
A. Guarding, then throw
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Block a guaranteed throw move, then use a high throw!
Your opponent will perform a move that leaves them vulnerable enough to
guarantee a throw afterwards. Block it, then perform a high throw.
B. Recognizing guaranteed throw moves
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Watch for guaranteed throw moves, and respone appropriately
5 times.
After blocking your opponent's attack, respond to guaranteed throw
moves with a throw, and to others with a striking attack (such as
[d,P]).
Throw 5 times to complete the exercise.
C. Throwing when you have the advantage
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Create an advantageous situation, then perform a high throw
3 times!
First, land a striking attack to create an advantageous situation. Then
when your opponent guards, go for a high throw.
Throw 3 times to complete the exercise.
12. Avoiding high throws
========================
A. Using striking attacks to avoid throws
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Stop your opponent's throw with a striking attack 5 times!
After you let your opponent hit you with [P], they willl try to throw
you. Stop this throw with a striking attack 5 times. Also, if you are
playing as Jacky or Vanessa, walk forward to let the [P] hit you.
13. Throw escapes
=================
A. Practicing throw escapes

Exercise: Do a throw escape after a guaranteed throw move!
Attack your opponent with a guarranteed throw move, then enter [P+G] to
escape from your opponent's throw. Escape 3 times to complete the
exercise.
B. Using multiple throw escapes (5th Dan or above)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Use multiple throw escapes to avoid 5 throws!
Your opponent will use [P+G], [f,P+G] or [d,P+G] to throw you. Enter at
least two of the commands, and escape from your opponent's throw 5
times.
14. Dealing with throws and striking attacks
============================================
A. Using evading throw escapes
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Avoid the striking attack/throw double threat with an evading
throw escape!
After your opponent blocks your striking attack, they will come back
with either a striking attack or a throw ([P+G] only). Use an evading
throw escape to avoid the counterattack 5 times.
B. Using guarding throw escapes
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Use guarding throw escape to defend against your opponent's
counterattack!
After your opponent blocks your guaranteed throw move, they will
counterattack with either a striking attack or a throw ([P+G] only).
Use a guarding throw escape to defend yourself 5 times.
C. Using evading throw escape-guard
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: From a disadvantageous position, avoid both striking attacks
and throws!
After you let your opponent block an attack, they will counterattack
with a striking attack or a throw ([P+G] only). Use an evading throw
escape-guard to avoid the counterattack 5 times.
15. Avoiding special throws
===========================
A. Using striking attacks to avoid low throws
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Use a striking attack to avoid low throw 5 times!
Jeffry will attack with [d,P+K] to force a crouch, the follow up with a
low throw. Use a striking attack to stop the low throw 5 times. If you
are using Jacky or Vanessa, start by guarding low.
B. Escaping from a low throws
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Escape from the guaranteed low throw!
Jeffry will attack with [db,P+K], then [df,P+K+G]. Use throw escapes to
avoid the low throw 5 times. If you are playing Jacky or Vanessa, guard
low against [db,P+K].
C. Using multiple throw escapes for low throws (5th Dan or above)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Use multiple throw escapes to avoid 5 low throws!
Jeffry will attack with [db,P+K], the follow up with one of three low
throws--[d,f,P+K+G], [df,P+K+G] or [d,P+K+G]. Enter at least two throw
escape commands each time and escape from 5 low throws to complete the
exercise. If you are playing as Jacky or Vanessa, use low guard against
Jeffry's [db,P+K].
D. Dealing with high catch throws
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Use a striking attack from a crouching position to stop the
high catch throw!
Vanessa will charge you with [f,f,P+K] (from Offensive). Use [d,P] or
another attack from a crouching position to stop her 3 times.
E. Dealing with low catch throws
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Use a striking attack from a standing position to stop the
low catch throw!
Vanessa will attack with [d,P+K] (from Defensive), and follow up with a
low catch throw. Use an attack from a standing position to stop her 3
times. If you are playing as Jacky or Vanessa, guard low against her
first attack.
16. Dealing with a rush
=======================
A. Stopping a series with a quick attack
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Escape: Guard and interrupt to stop the rush!
Your opponent will rush you with a barrage of attacks. Use quick
striking attacks after single ttacks, and moves such as [d,P] to
interrupt series of attacks to stop the rush 5 times.
B. When you're hit by a striking attack
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Guard or evade, then counterattack!
Your opponent will attack with two-hit series. Use guard or attack to
create an opening, then counterattack.
C. When guard & counterattack won't work
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Counterattack against Lei Fei's attack!
Lei Fei countinue attacking you with a move that gives the advantage,
so use evade or back dash to avoid it, then counterattack.
17. Dealing with [d,P]
======================
A. Guard and take the advantage
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Predict your opponent's [d,P], and counterattack 3 times!
As you attack, your opponent will try to interrupt you with [d,P].
Predict when they will try this, guard or evade, then counterattack
quickly.
Counterattack 3 times to complete the exercise.
18. Defending while recovering
==============================
A. When your opponent tries a striking attack
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Avoid striking attacks as you recover from a fall!
Your opponent will attack with [b,f,P+K]. Let it hit you, then recover
from the fall. As you recover, avoid your opponent's attack 3 times by
guarding or evading.
B. When your opponent tries a throw
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Avoid throws as you recover from a fall!
Your opponent will attack with [b,f,P+K]. Let it hit you, then recover
from the fall. As you recover, avoid your opponent's throw 5 times by
stopping it with a striking attack.
C. Dealing withh both throws and striking attacks (5th Dan or above)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Use evading throw escapes to avoid both striking attacks and
throws!
Let your opponent's [b,f,P+K] hit you, then recover from the fall.
Then, use evading throw escapes to avoid your opponent's linear
striking attacks and throws ([P+G] only) 3 times.
19. Attacking a recovering opponent
===================================
A. Using striking attacks against a recovering opponent
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Attack your opponent from a counter hit as they revover from
a fall 5 times!
After you knock your opponent down, they will do a side-roll recovery,
and try to attack immediately afterward. Use a striking attack to stop
their attack.
B. Using throws against a recovering opponent
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Throw your opponent after a side-roll recovery 5 times!
After you knock your opponent down, they will do a side-roll recovery
(assuming that they can recover from the fall). Grab them with a low
throw if you have one, and if not, use a high throw.
C. Dealing with evading throw escape
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Stop your opponent's evading throw escape after their side-
roll recovery!
After you knock your opponent down, they will do a side-roll recovery
(assuming that they can recover from the fall). Next, they will do an
evading throw escape.
Stop the evading throw escape with a half spinning attack or full
spinning attack, or pause to force a failed evade, then move in with
a striking attack.
Succeed 5 times to complete the exercise.
D. Attacking an opponent lying face down with head toward you 1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Attack your opponent as they revcover in place!
When you knock your opponent down so they fall face down, with their
head toward you, they will recover in place and then evade. Time your
striking attack so it hits them out of the evades.
Succeed 5 times to complete the exercise.
E. Attacking an opponent lying face down with head toward you 2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Take advantage of the window of vulnerability in the side-
roll recovery with a striking attack!
When you knock your opponent down so they fall face down, with their
head toward you, they will do a side-roll recovery. Look for the
window of vulnerability during the side-roll recovery and hit them
with a striking attack.
Succeed 5 times to complete the exercise.
20. Attacking a downed opponent
===============================
A. Using down attacks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Knock your opponent down, and follow up with a down attack 3
times!
Knock your opponent down, then land a down attack. You can use either
light or heavy down attacks, but down throw will not count.
Succeed 3 times to complete the exercise.
B. Low-risk down attacks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Hit your unpredictable opponent with a down attack!
When you knock your opponent down, they will either go down, or do a
side-roll recovery (assuming that they can recover from the fall).
Enter the command explained previously, and hit your opponent with a
heavy down attack.
C. Adding damage with bounce combos (5th Dan or above)

Exercise: Use a bounce combo to do at least 20 damage!
Knock your opponent down with a striking attack, then do at least 20
damage as they bounce.
21. Attacking as an opponent gets up
====================================
A. Using striking attack

Knock your opponent down, then as they get up, perform a striking
attack and hit them 3 times.
B. Dealing with rising attacks

Exercise: Avoid your opponent's rising attack, and land a striking
attack or throw 3 times!
Knock your opponent down, then get in close to provoke a rising attack.
Avoid it, then land a striking attack or throw 3 times!
C. Stopping rising attacks (5th Dan or above)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Use a striking attack that does 21 damage or more to stop
your opponent's rising attack!
After knocking your opponent down, use a striking attack that does 21
damage ormore to stop their rising attack.
Succeed 3 times to complete the exercise.
22. Defending as you get up
===========================
A. Using rising attacks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Use a rising attack to stop your opponent's attack!
After you let your opponent knock you down with [df,df,K], they will
try to attack you as you get up. Use a rising attack to hit your
opponent 5 times.
B. Using various ways of getting up
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Predict your opponent's movement, and hit them 5 times as
they try to attack you when you get up!
After you let your opponent knock you down with [df,df,K], they will
try to attack you as you get up. Use a delayed rising attack or get
up and then attack to hit your opponent out of their attack 5 times.
23. Attack near a wall
======================
A. Following up on a wall stagger 1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Take the advantage with a wall stagger, then do at least 50
damage!
Use a striking attack that does at least 21 dmage to cause a wall
stagger, then use midair combos and down attacks to do a total of 50
damage in one combo.
B. Following up on a wall stagger 2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Do a striking attack or throw 5 times after a wall stagger!
Using a striking attack that does 20 damage or less to cause a wall
stagger, then follow up 5 times with a striking attack or a throw.
C. Using down attacks after your opponent hits a wall
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Hit your opponent into a wal, and hit them with a down
attack!
Hit your opponent into the wall with a floater move to prevent them
from recovering from the fall, then land a down attack. (Down throws
will not be counter).
Succeed 5 times to complete the exercise
D. Using wall for midair combos
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise: Use wall hits to build a midair combo that does 70 damage
or more!
Use the walls to your advantage to put together a midair combo that
does 70 or more total damage.
