Necromandio Cave Walkthrough
by Wedge33

-Version 1.00

Thanks to TECMO for making a great game, and a worthy successor to the classic
NES game.

The Necromandio Cave could be considered a side-quest, or even a mini-game.  In
any case, it's a good way to gain experience fighting hordes of opponents and
it's also the only way to gain certain items and unlock certain features.  The
unfortunate part of the cave is that it is 30 levels long with no save points
whatsoever.  You have to finish it in one sitting, and it can be difficult,
especially in the Hard and Legendary modes.  This walkthrough is for the Normal
mode of play.

I went into the Cave after defeating the five-headed dragon Typhon, and exiting
Hades.  To get to the Cave, go "down" from the Hades exit until you eventually
get to a dead-end blocked by a pushable block.  Tackle the block to reveal the
entrance to the Cave.  Before you hop in, be sure you're prepared.  It's a good
idea to save your game right before going in, and to have an Ambrosia, Ompha-
los, and Caduceus in your Items list if possible.  When I entered the Cave my
stats were as follows:

Life: 810
Icol: 120
Attack: 54
Defense: 30

I had also leveled all my diskarmors completely up to Level 3 and equipped them
with Mystical Stones.  The stones I like to use the most are Ares and Tanatos
because they make your attacks consistently more powerful.  Nike is also pretty
good if you need to block a lot and still attack; and Aphrodite can come in
handy when Nectar is in short supply.  Otherwise, just equip whichever stones
you prefer and hop in the Cave.

____________________________

Level 1
-------
The first level is one of the easiest.  It's just a bunch of green Rollers.
Equip your favorite diskarmor and lay into them.  This level should be good for
filling up your life a little and gaining a little icol if needed.

Level 2
-------
This level is the same as the one before but with gray Rollers instead.  Pretty
simple.

Level 3
-------
This level has a bunch of green Rollers, but also throws some jumping Insect
guys at you as well.  Watch out for them as they try to always jump on top of
you to attack.

Level 4
-------
Gray Rollers and Insect Shooters here.  The Shooters are bad at aiming, so I
would take care of the Rollers first as they tend to roll a lot and hit you.

Level 5
-------
The first of several "boss" levels that occur on every fifth level.  The fire
Rollers are no problem, but watch out for the wrestler Cyclopes.  He likes to
charge at you and lay into you for a good hit or two.  You should gain a Holy
Sword for some strength here.  Don't forget to grab your prize from the statue.

Level 6
-------
Fire Rollers and insect Jumpers.  The Sea diskarmor makes quick work of both
these kinds of enemies.  This one is pretty easy.

Level 7
-------
Finally, different enemies!  As soon as you can, equip the Heavenly diskarmor
and begin swinging like mad.  You've got crab-arm Floaters and blade-arm
Floaters here coming from all sides, but if you're quick enough your Heavenly
diskarmor will drive them back and you won't take a hit.

Level 8
-------
More Floaters and some Shooters here.  Use the Heavenly diskarmor to dispatch
the Floaters quickly, but be careful because the slower movement makes you more
succeptable to the Shooters.  Dispatch them however you see fit (Sea diskarmor
works best for me).

Level 9
-------
Flame Spiders, Ice Shooters, and Floaters; all of them annoying in their own
special way.  The Floaters should be no problem, but watch out for the ice
attacks coming from all sides.  Also, the spiders tend to crawl right under
the Heavenly diskarmor attacks, and when they hit you they burst into flame
so try to keep them as far away as possible.

Level 10
--------
Watch out!  Right at the onset this boss level drops a berserker Cyclopes
right on your head!  Not to mention the annoying Shooters at the edges of
the level.  As quickly as possible, get the Cyclopes in front of you (he'll
be gunning for you anyway) and dish out a level-1 summon of Siren.  This will
freeze him in his tracks for a moment, but more importantly it will cancel his
berserker mode.  Now, while he's lumbering about slowly, take out the Shooters.
After the shooters are gone, a quick double combo of Sea diskarmor should take
care of the Cyclopes, but get ready, there's another one on the way!  Use the
same strategy to finish him.  The two Cyclopes should drop a Holy Sword and
Divine Shield.  Hooray for powerups!  Hit the statue and hop on the elevator.

Level 11
--------
Green Rollers and those pesky Spiders here.  Not a hard level, but those
Spiders sure are annoying!

Level 12
--------
Regular Shooters and Ice Shooters.  Take your pick on who to kill first as
their damage is fairly equal.  I used Sea diskarmor because it's quicker and
makes it easier to avoid incoming fire.

Level 13
--------
It looks like an empty level at first, but as soon as you move...here comes the
Floaters and Spiders!  The Floaters are getting faster here at attacking, and
the Spiders are getting more annoying.  You'll probably take a few hits before
this level's over.

Level 14
--------
A level full of crab-arm Floaters, and they are getting vicious.  At any time
you can have up to 6 or more Floaters ganging up on you and simply beating the
crap out of you before you can get any attack off.  If this happens, use a
Heavenly diskarmor summon, which should kill about half of them, and knock the
rest away.  Otherwise, swing your diskarmor like a madman and you'll eventually
get through it.

Level 15
--------
This boss level is relatively easy by compasrison.  Watch out for the berserker
Cyclopes and the wrestler Cyclopes which will both probably come at you at the
same time.  Dodge the wrestler and deal a Level-1 Siren summon on the beserker,
just like last time.  This frees you to take care of the wrestler, then the
slower hammer Cyclopes.  They should drop a Divine Armor, and your statue
reward is another Divine Armor.  More life is always good!

**You're halfway through the Cave now, and it may be a good time to point out
that at any time you have the option of riding the elevator back out of the
Cave if you don't want to continue.  You will retain all of the powerups
gained so far, and you can save your game.  But realize that if you wish to
ever come back and complete the Cave, you'll have to start back from Level 1.
So, if you're ready to move on, let's do it.**

Level 16
--------
Some Fire Rollers and Jumpers here.  The enemies are starting to become more
plentiful and are attacking with greater frequency.  Heavenly diskarmor is good
here because it can stop the Rollers from rolling and it kills the Jumpers in a
single hit.

Level 17
--------
Crab-arm Floaters and Shooters assault you here.  Get rid of the Floaters first
since they attack much more than the Shooters.  Heavenly diskarmor works well.

Level 18
--------
Shooter and Spiders here, lots of Spiders.  The Shooters are getting more acc-
urate, so be prepared to dodge incoming fire.  Also, the Spiders are coming in
threes with no intent other than to ram you and explode.  You'll be doing a lot
of dodging on this level.

Level 19
--------
A really annoying level, you've got blade-arm Floaters and Spiders assaulting
you from all sides while Shooters take potshots from the level's edges.  Run
around a lot and swing like crazy.  If you get ganged up on, use the Heavenly
diskarmor summon to dispatch the nearby enemies.

Level 20
--------
Get out of the center of the room as fast as possible!  Don't worry about the
Shooters for now, two wrestler Cyclopes have appeared right on top of you and
are trying to pound your head into the ground.  Any level of any summon
will work well at stunning them for a moment, while you run around behind them
for a good attack.  What works best for me is to wait until they're right next
to each other, then dish out a Level-3 Siren, which freezes them momentarily.
Then unleash a Sea diskarmor combo into both of them at the same time.  This
should finish them both off.  But be careful, because another two are on the
way.  Finish them off the same way, then deal with the Shooters.  Your statue
should hold "Relief of the Future Number 14".

Level 21
--------
Fire Rollers and crab-arm Floaters galore!  Dish out some Heavenly diskarmor
action for maximum effect on these baddies.  No real difficulty here.

Level 22
--------
Fire Rollers, Spiders, and Jumpers, oh my!  The Jumpers are getting better at
attacking, but they're still as weak as ever.  Swing around the Heavenly disk-
armor and use a Level-1 summon if you get surrounded.

Level 23
--------
Gray Rollers and both kinds of Floaters are the order if this level.  It's not
too hard with the Heavenly diskarmor.  Between its flinging around and smashing
into stuff, the Rollers rolling everywhere, and the Floaters crackling elec-
tricity, this levels packs some serious sound!  Crank up the bass on your sound
system and wake up the neighbors!

Level 24
--------
Equip your Heavenly diskarmor and wait.  After a second, about 6 Fire Rollers
drop down and surround you.  Swing your diskarmor around to spread them out,
then deal with them as you please with your weapon of choice.  There's a lot of
them here, but they're not hard.

Level 25
--------
Be ready to move!  Two berserker Cyclopes pop out and start gunning for you.
Ignore the Fire Rollers as much as possible and just deal with the Cyclopes.
Be careful though, there's 3 more berserker Cyclopes to deal with; that's 5
total Cyclopes.  So don't waste all your icol on the first couple.  Dispatch
the Fire Rollers the same as always.  Your efforts are rewarded well here.  The
Cyclopes should drop 2 Holy Swords, a Divine Armor, and a Divine SHield.  Plus,
the statue yields the invaluable Mystical Stone Hypnos, which when equipped
will replenish your life meter as long as you stand still and rest for several
seconds.  Equip this and use it to fill your life meter between levels of the
Cave.

**Levels 26-29 are basically all the same: all-out brawls with tons of enemies
to see if you've got what it takes to make it to the end.  I will only list
which enemies appear in each level.  For these I primarily used the Heavenly
diskarmor and just swung like crazy!**

Level 26
--------
Spiders, Shooters, Floaters, Fire Rollers

Level 27
--------
Fire Rollers, green Rollers, Jumpers, Spiders (note here that the green Rollers
don't drop onto the level, or burrow up; they simply roll on and aim for you)

Level 28
--------
Gray Rollers, Shooters, Floaters

Level 29
--------
Gray Rollers, Shooters, Floaters

Level 30
--------
This is it, so get ready!  Remember that giant minotaur boss with the super-
huge sword?  Well, you get to meet him again, and he brought some Shooters for
company.  Get out of the center of the room ASAP.  I hope you still at least
have your Ambrosia and Omphalos left.  Still having a Caduceus here will prove
invaluable.  Unleash a Level-3 Summon (I used Siren), immediately followed by
a Level-2 Summon.  This will clear a neat chunk of his life, which you can't
see by the way.  Dispatch the Shooters as necessary to replenish a little icol.
Stick and move, dealing attacks whenever possible.  Try to stay close to him
and just jump over his sword and punch attacks.  If you get too far away he'll
dash at you with the sword for an attack that can take a mean 25% of your
health!  Use the Sea diskarmor for the quickest close-up attacks.  Once he's
out of life he'll simply vanish, but don't get too comfy, he's coming back!
That's right, you have to defeat him TWICE!

There will be a few seconds after you beat him the first time before the second
appears.  Kill the remaining Shooters, if any.  Now would also be a good time
to check your health and icol levels.  Doubtless you will have no icol, so use
Omphalos to replenish it.  Also, if you're health is pretty low, go ahead and
use the Ambrosia, but don't use it to soon or you won't prolong the life you
have as long as possible.  Use the same strategy to defeat the second minotaur
and then claim your prize fromt he statue.  You get the "Guitarmor" as a usable
weapon.
