Version History

Version 0.1 (10-14-03): Thought it was time for a tank guide as I
would?ve liked one when I first started this game
and put a lot of research into it. Wrote, spellchecked, and submitted the
guide.
Version 0.2 Minor Editting (3-20-04)

Intro
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Well obviously I?m a big fan of the game especially the part about raising your
own fish in the tank and later releasing them to be captured again. I just
thought that I would help those of you confused about the fish tank, thanks to
the very sparse manual. I know a lot about the game, as it is one of my
current favorites, and have completed it 100%. Anyway, Thanks for reading the
guide! =)

Tank Controls
@@@@@@@@@@@@@
The instruction manual will tell you basically how to control the tank, but if
you lost it like me here you go.
Up/Down: Hitting up will send you to the hanging light to exit the room or end
the day.
Right/Left: Selects Corkboard, light (for exiting) or which tank you desire to
view
X: Activates the desired tank or corkboard mode
(When in tank view mode)
X: Switches from fish to fish and eventually to entire tank mode. You use this
button to highlight and feed individual fish. If you feed them in the entire
tank mode the food will be eaten by the nearest fish to where the food is
dropped, which is the worst way to feed them.
Triangle: Drop a food pellet into the tank. (Be patient, as many of the fish
become stuck on the sides or other fish when trying to eat and their AI for
collision avoidance and positioning is very badly done.)
Square: Tap the tank (Reduces stress in most non-trout fish in the unaerated
tank by one square. Has a negative or no effect on fish in the aerated tank as
they tend to be more nervous for some reason.)
Circle: Gives you the option to end your viewing of the tank.
***To access the view all fish mode just tap X until you get to the view with
no food stress bars at the bottom. From here you can use the R1/L1 buttons and
Left Analog Stick to change your viewpoint of the tank. WOW! =)

TANK GUIDE
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
First of all to place fish into your tank you must first get yourself to a
fishing hole and catch a fish. Once you have caught a fish you will be given
the option to place it into one of your two live wells. Be careful with the
live wells because if you fill both at one spot and go to a different fishing
hole and catch a huge fish you cannot swap the huge new fish out with the
current fish in your live wells as they can only be released at the fishing
hole they came from. Don?t worry about what kind of condition they are in as
even a very bad one can survive in there forever. After you have the right fish
go to the map and select return to aqua lounge. You will be taken directly to
the aqua room at which point you hit X to view the cork board and then you can
select tank statistics or live well. Select live well and you will see your
fish caught listed. Highlight which fish you want to drop into the tank and hit
X. The fish will go into the proper tank (Aerated for fish that like a good
current, Unaerated for fish that like still water.) If you had two fish then
select the other one and you will be given a choice as to which slot of the
tank you want to place the fish into. You will also see a smiling face meaning
the fish get along promoting good health, an indifferent face meaning no
effect, a sad face meaning the fish will be easily stressed/harder to grow/and
unhealthy, or an angry face with teeth and such meaning that the fish are
natural enemies and one of them is going down sooner or later, as seems to
happen in my real-life tiger barb tank at home! =) If your fish go into the
tank in bad health just leave them alone and they will recover by the next day
(unless they have no appetite squares then you should get them up to 2 or three
squares by feeding them). So now you got some healthy fish in there the next
day, time to raise them to be HUGE and eventually released where they will be
really tough to hook the next time you see them randomly beating up other fish
in the lake (the place where you caught them actually). If you do manage to
hook them and you did a good job of raising them the fish should be able to
easily snap your line and laugh at you as you sit on the shore crying and
trying frantically to find a new lure (at which point he will then be gone)lol.
Unless of course you are like my girlfriend raise Pale Chub fish ?because they
are cute?.
Here are just a few more tips for successfully and quickly raising fish in the
tank now that you are all set up. The only fish that you can lower the stress
level of are non trout type fish in the unaerated tank. To lower the stress
level just tap the tank with the square button about ten times and that should
do it. I've only been able to lower the stress by one square though no matter
how long I sat there tapping and haven't really found a reason for it either
besides promoting better health among the fish. As before mentioned feeding a
fish 3 times gives them another appetite square you want the appetite bar to
have a red flashing light from overfeeding so they grow, but be forewarned that
overfeeding gradually reduces their health (yes feeding them significantly past
the red flashing square increases their size/weight but also hurts them the
next day, and no I have no idea what the square to inch ratio is). If you have
a fish that has had reduced health from very good DO NOT FEED AT ALL unless it
has zero appetite squares. It will recover 1 status level after you leave the
aqua room. Fish do not grow an inch every day (it's usually every 2 days) and
yes they will grow even if you forget to feed them every once and a while but
feeding helps speed the process. Tapping at a fish that doesn?t like it will
increase stress squares and eventually they will get unhealthy. Releasing fish
back into the habitat will re-enter them immediately into the random fish
selection pool for the area where you caught the fish, but as this is random it
doesn?t matter what day you release them (yes you really do catch the fish you
raise again I've done it many times now with the huge ones) I've also found the
easiest fish to raise are carp because they eat very quickly as opposed to the
incredibly stupid brown trout who just seems to get stuck on everything and
then start dancing instead of eating his food. The best way to raise a fish is
having it be alone in the tank so less environmental glitches and collisions
with other fish occur. And of course do not mix fish that are natural enemies
(the smile or frowning faces listed when you look into your live well before
you add a fish into a tank) as there health will never improve and they wont
grow as much as normal. As for the limits to how big the fish can get, I?m
still working on that. A good reference for how well you are growing them would
be to check the fish guide for their average lengths (the fish guide can be
viewed from your desk). Any fish can be grown WAY PAST their suggested maximum
lengths so keep on feeding. OH, and to clean the tank rapidly hit the top R and
L buttons as rapidly as possible........................ just kidding! =) Have
a good time raising your fish!
